Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

The latest two puzzles

Thanks for all the anniversary wishes. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well there was nothing falling from the sky
this morning and the sun did come out and you might have thought
that sounded good for a morning walk,
BUT
the temperature was -10F
so back down in the basement for my walk.

Pictures of the last two puzzles.
Small and easy ones.
Each one done in a day.

We had enough of this staying in the house so we left at lunch time
and went into town.
We had a bite to eat and then went to the library.
Ken had a book on hold and it was ready for pick up.

There is a big event that our church holds on every year,
Sportsman's Wild Game Dinner
and local businesses donate gifts for the door prizes.
Ken and I went around and started picking up some of the prizes.
The picture above is a flyer that we put up on the
bulletin board in the laundromat.

When we got back home we decided to bundle up and take a ride
on the ATV around the trails on our property.
Driving up the lane here.
It was a beautiful sunny day with a beautiful blue sky.
Looks warm but looks can be deceiving,
the temperature was 4F.
Here we are driving down one of the trails.
All those tracks you see are deer tracks.
It was neat to see all the different trails the deer travel along.
Only stayed out about 45 minutes.
It was nice to be outside for a while
but nice to get inside our nice warm house again
where we had a hot cup of tea.

I guess that about does it for today.
Hope your day was a happy one.

Field of Sunflowers

No walking outside this morning.
It was snowing but today it was VERY windy and the
temperature was 8 degrees and kept going lower throughout the day.
Sometimes the wind was blowing the snow around so much that
I couldn't even see the mailbox at the end of the driveway.
So it was back to the basement for walking.
As I'm writing this post now at almost 5:00 the temperature is at -3F.
❄️     ๐ŸŒฌ     ☃️
Didn't do much of anything today.
Finished reading my book,
The Beautiful Mystery
by Louise Penny.
It was a Chief Inspector Gamache book and a bit different from the
the usual.  This murder was in a remote Monastery in the remote
wilderness in Quebec.
A bit slow moving but I thought it was very good.
๐Ÿ“š
Did finish the small puzzle yesterday and started another
small one today which I will finish later.
I'll take a picture of both of them for tomorrows post.
๐Ÿงฉ
Made some more weave-it squares.
๐Ÿงถ
It is our 47th wedding anniversary today and we had planned
on going out to eat at Outback to celebrate but decided to stay home and
have pizza. ๐Ÿ• Will go another day when the weather is better.

I've told the story about how Ken and I met before and many of
you may know it but there are some new readers so I thought I'd
tell the story again.
❤️     ๐Ÿšค     ❤️
My mother and father were divorced and my dad had a
boat which he kept on the Hudson River, in Nyack, New York.
I would drive up to the boat on weekends to see my dad and his girlfriend Jeanne.
One 4th of July I went up to the boat for the holiday
with my boyfriend and another friend of mine to spend the day.
Jeanne's two kids were to be there too
and I would be meeting them for the first time.
Her daughter Kathy was there with her 10 month old baby, Diane.
Her son, as you probably have guessed is Ken
who came up to the boat with his girlfriend.
Well when the two of us met there was a connection right away
and Kenny captured my heart that very day.
It made things a bit awkward
because we both happened to be engaged to other people.
We ended those engagements and started dating.
We were married the end of January just 6 months later.
Though my dad and Ken's mother did get married
they got divorced several years later
but for a time Ken and I were step-brother and sister!
My mother in law was also my step mother.
My sister in law was also my step sister.
When David and Debbi came along, not only were they our kids,
but also our nephew and niece.
Pretty crazy huh.
๐Ÿ’’
Didn't take any pictures today.
Though I really do like winter and the snow
I'm missing some sun and color and warmer weather about now.
Here's a Field of Sunflowers to help me remember that there will be
sunny, warm walking weather once again.
That's it for today.
Hope your day was a happy one and you stayed nice and warm.

Walking in a Snow Globe

I went walking outside in a snow globe this morning.
The temperature had risen to 31 degrees and there was no wind
which made it a great morning for walking out in the snow.
Went down to the main road which was snow covered
and then turned around and walked back but didn't turn off
on my road but kept going straight up along this road and turned
around at the end of this picture.
Then turned around and walked back down passing up my road again
and once more walking to the main road.
Turned around and went home.

The snow plow passed me a couple of times and he waved
to me.  I always stop walking till they pass by.
They also throw grit on the roads.

Didn't see any people but did see a whole flock of wild turkeys.
There must have been at least 50 of them.  Too far away to take a picture.
Saw deer, raccoon, rabbit and some other kind of animal tracks that
I didn't know.

So happy I was able to get outside and walk.
It was so quiet and peaceful and I kept stopping just to listen
to the quiet and watch the snow falling.

Temperatures have been steadily going down throughout the day
so who knows when I'll be able to get out and walk again.
It is now 13 and still heading down.
Supposed to be below zero by morning.
☃️     ❄️     ☃️
After a walk in the snow Oatmeal sounded like just the
thing for breakfast.  I had some with brown sugar mixed in.

Stayed home all day watching it snow.
Took apart the Noah's Ark puzzle and started another one.
This one is small and easy and I'm sure I'll have it finished later.

I listened to an audio book while making more weave-it squares for our bedspread.
Once a few strips are done I'll post a picture so you can see the pattern
and tell you how many squares I have to make!!!

I did enjoy that Klondike bar (1 1/2) and plan to have
one again tonight.

A happy day to you.

Rather go to the dentist

Temperature was supposed to be in the 20's this morning
so planned on walking outside but when morning came around it was
only 10 degrees so once again it was a basement walk.
It warmed up nicely to 30 and the sun was shining in the afternoon
and could have went out then but never got around to it.

This morning I made us French toast for breakfast.
Don't make it that often and it was nice for a change.

After breakfast we went to the house for more painting.
We only last for a couple of hours before we've had enough of it!!
Doing it this way it will take us forever but just can't get
excited about it!!
I said to Ken today,
"I'd rather be going to the dentist than be here painting."
๐Ÿ˜Š
Home this afternoon.
Did a bit of housework.
While I was dusting my stack of boxes I decided to change things
around a bit and
put my little collection of milk bottles all in one place.
Added the cows too.  The wooden one Ken made me years ago.

Did a little reading and made some weave-it squares.
I've been making some for the next baby blanket
and some for the bedspread I'm making for us.
Will probably get some more of them done this evening.
We picked up some Klondike Bars at the Shop and Save today
so I'll be having one of them tonight.
Probably 1 1/2.  ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
Hope your day was a happy one.

Heavenly Sunlight

This is one of the hymns we sang at church this morning.
Seemed appropriate while outside it was a snowy winter morning.  ๐ŸŒจ

๐ŸŽผ  Heavenly Sunlight  ๐ŸŽผ

Henry J Zelley
George H Cook

Walking in sunlight all of my journey,
Over the mountains, thru the deep vale.
Jesus has said, I'll never forsake thee -
Promise divine that never can fail.

Shadows a round me, shadows above me,
Never conceal my Saviour and Guide;
He is the Light, in Him is no darkness -
Ever I'm walking close to His side.

In th bright sunlight, ever rejoicing,
Pressing my way to mansions above,
Singing His praises, gladly I'm walking -
Walking in sunlight, sunlight of love.

Refrain
Heavenly sunlight, heavenly sunlight,
Flooding my soul with glory divine;
Hallelujah! I am rejoicing,
Singing His praises,
Jesus is mine.

Proverbs 13:9
The light of the righteous rejoice:
But the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

Many of you might be wondering if we finished the puzzle last night.
Yes, we did.
The last piece went in a couple of minutes before 1:00.

I forgot to mention the other day how many Romans books we assembled
last Thursday on Fingerprint day.
Total was 6,853
Our goal was 5,000.
Goal for the year is 60,000, we got a terrific start with it.

Thought you might be interested in how many blankets the women of the
church made in 2018.
Total was 274

A Blessed Sunday to you.

Vee - Yes, we were both ready to be finished with this puzzle.  It was a difficult one to do.

One More

Here is one last train layout picture for now.
Will post more in the future.
Don't think I'll ever run out of pictures to take of the layout.
Winter continues with a mix of sun/clouds, cold weather, ice, and snow late afternoon.
More walking in the basement.
Not the greatest place to walk but sure am thankful I have it!!
I keep thinking of the many nice walking days that I will have one day again.

Got the routine morning chores done after breakfast and we were off
to the old house.
It has been a bunch of days now that we haven't been there so figured
we'd better get back to painting.
The white kitchen cabinets look so nice and sure brighten up the room.
One of the rooms down in the basement is just about done now except
for the cutting in.  It is a big room and it took 4 coats of paint to cover
the dark color.
It is so hard to get motivated about painting, neither one of us likes to paint.
There is so much to paint that at times it seems over whelming.
But I know it will get done and we will be glad we did it.
Funny thing though, the people who buy it will probably paint it again!!

Home this afternoon doing a bit of this and that.
Reading and working on the puzzle.
This is one of the hardest puzzles we've done.
While we working on it this afternoon
Ken says, "We aren't going to bed tonight until this is finished."
I'll let you know if we succeed.

Hope your day was a happy one.

More Train Pictures

This morning we had more winter weather.
Cold, ice, and a bit of snow.
No outside walk again.
Stayed cold all day but we did have sunshine which made us happy.

We went out this morning to do a few errands.
Stopped in at Lowe's and bought some corner molding
which will be used to make the frame for the cross stitch that I made.
Will post it again once it is framed.

I had a package waiting for me when I got home.
Ordered two sweaters from LL Bean.
A white one and navy blue which is so dark it looks black.
They are nice and warm and I like the nice big turtleneck.
Worked on the puzzle for a while and also did some reading.
A little housework too.

A couple more pictures of Ken's train layout from a different angle
from yesterday's photos.

That's it for today.

Ken thanks you all for the kind words you left about his layout yesterday.

ChipButter - Very often Ken is working on the layout when I walk.  There are enough of the tracks in to run the trains but he has a lot more work to do.  Just a small part of the scenery is finished.  It takes YEARS to complete.
When we lived in the house in town he worked on the layout there for 5 years and never finished it.  Here is a link to that layout.

Vee - Ken says thanks!! The layout Ken built when we lived in Savage was published in the magazine Model Railroader in July of 2007.

Fingerprints and Ken's Trains

That warmer weather sure didn't last long.
It rained most of the night and most of the snow melted
but then today the temperature dropped during the day and
we had freezing rain and snow.
So back to the basement to get my steps in for the day.

It was Fingerprint Ministry day at church so we left
right after breakfast to go there to work.
Usually people can come and go and work when they have
time from 9:00 to 2:00 or 3:00 but this time the hours
were 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
This gives people who work during the day the opportunity
to come in the evening to work.
Today Ken and I worked 9:00 to 4:30.
I snapped this picture today when no one noticed.

Here are a couple more pictures of Ken's HO Train Layout in the basement.
I have nice scenery to look at as I walk around. ๐Ÿ˜Š
๐Ÿš‚     ๐Ÿš‚
Still have a couple more miles to walk to get the rest of my steps in
so off I go to do that.
My reward - ice cream.  ๐Ÿจ

Hope your day was a happy one.

Warm up

We had quite a warm up overnight and this morning it was 36 degrees
and nothing was falling out of the sky.
Sure was nice to put on those walking shoes and head outside.  ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
Left at 7:10 and a couple of minutes later this sky looked like this.
Saw some peeks of blue sky but it soon was gone and it was just cloudy.
Had to be careful walking because there was still some icy patches around.
Walked down the hill to the main road and up the hill to town.
Didn't bother walking in town though because lots of ice around on the side
roads and sidewalks aren't cleared.
So walked back toward home.
 ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ     ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ     ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ
After breakfast and doing a few chores around the house
we went down to LaVale to do our food shopping at Walmart.
Usually it is about 10 degrees warmer there than where we live
but it wasn't like that today.
It was 40 degrees when we left here and down in the LaVale it
stayed at 28 the whole time we were there.

Since the last time we were at Walmart, which hasn't been long,
they have turned at least half of the checkouts into self checkouts.
I know some people like the self checkout but I am not one of them
When I do use them something always goes wrong
so I prefer to have a person.

This afternoon I finished sewing up the weave-it squares
and the baby blanket is now finished.
It certainly is colorful.
That's been my day so far.
Now we are off to church.

Hope your day was a good one.

First church building

Another morning with a minus 2 degrees
and another walk in the basement.
There was a mix of sun and clouds today and the temperature
warmed up in the 20's by afternoon.

Spent some time sewing squares for the latest baby blanket.

We met our friends at the bowling alley for another afternoon
of bowling.  ๐ŸŽณ
My scores were
114
133
146
in that order.
Bowling is always fun but we always look forward
too eating out afterward too.
Today we ate at a little Italian place not far from the bowling alley.
Many years ago the building was where our church started.
That's all for today.

Sun and blue sky

2 below zero this morning and windy so again
walked loops in the basement.
Early afternoon we did see the sun and blue sky.
Didn't warm it up much though.
We had a high of 5 degrees.

Late morning we ventured outside to get our driveway passable.
By then it was 2 degrees.
My super warm coat kept my upper body warm but my legs were cold.

We never made it out of the house all day yesterday
and missed church services in the morning and evening.

After lunch we went out to see how the roads were.
Pretty good but even the main roads still had some snow on them.

I finished the cross stitch quote I've been working on for my friend.
She sure will be surprised when I give it to her.
She is in Florida now so will have to wait a while before I can give it to her.
Now just have to make a frame for it and Ken will help with that.
Looking at the picture I noticed I missed a stitch around the border.
I'm going to fix that right now.

Supper tonight was pizza at Brenda's.

That's all for today.
Hope your day was a happy one.

A little bird told me

A few little sayings you may have heard
but may not realize that the original idea came from the the Bible.

A Little Bird Told Me
Ecclesiastes 10:20
Curse not the king, no not in thy thought, and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber:
for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.
๐Ÿ•Š     ๐Ÿ•Š
Laughter is the best medicine
Proverbs 17:22
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine:
but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

    ๐Ÿ’–     ๐Ÿ’–

I am sick at heart
Proverbs 13:12
Hope deferred maketh the heart sick;
but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

๐Ÿ’”     ๐Ÿ’”
Saved by the skin of my teeth
Job 19:20
My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped
with the skin of my teeth.

These are just a few and I'm sure there are many more. Do you know of any others?

A Blessed Sunday to you.

Pop Up comments

And winter continues here.
Another day walking in the basement.
I did go outside in the afternoon to get the mail and walked
up and down the road just to get some fresh air.
Took this picture of my house walking up the driveway.
We've been home all day.
Made some Macaroni Salad this morning to go with the
hamburgers we had for supper.

Worked on the border some more on the cross stitch
and should be done in the next few days.
It is time consuming and always takes longer than I anticipate.

Hung up some more old cutter cutters and a few kitchen tools.
This latest puzzle we are working on is a bit of a challenge.
It is Noah's Ark and has 1000 pieces.
This is what we have done so far.
The snow now has some frozen rain mixed in and I can hear it
on the window.

Sure thankful for a nice warm house.

This evening I plan to
read,
watch Netflix
and make some weave-it squares.
(finishing up the latest baby blanket)
Oh yes, and have some ice cream.

Floor Oulet

There seems to be no end to this weather.
About now all of us must be lacking in vitamin D.
Another walking in the basement day.
A look from the front of the house.
A look out the back of the house.
When our house was built the electrician put the wiring in
for an outlet in the floor in the living room.
We weren't sure where exactly where we wanted it and told him we would
finish it when we decided where to put it.
Today Ken put the outlet between our two chairs so we could put
a lamp there without having to run a cord across the room.
He cut a hole in the floor.
I'm looking through the hole here down to the basement taking the picture.
The hole looks big from the picture but it is just a little one, the size
of an outlet cover.
There's the outlet and it works just fine.
We went down to the Shop and Save to pick up a few things.
Wanted to see how the roads were.
Once we got down to the main road they were fine.

Started working on the border around the quote
I'm making for my friend.  The border is black and blue
and just a simple cross stitch.

Not much happening today but still it was a good one.

No Cavities

More of the same weather and I got my walking done in the basement.
I worked quite a while on the cross stitch project for my friend.
I sat at the table in our office working on it and listening to an
audio book, Low Pressure by Sandra Brown.
This is the view sitting at the table working.
As you can see snow is falling.
I've finished the saying on the project and now will work on a
simple border around the words.
It was Baby Blanket day at church today but I didn't get to go.
We were supposed to go to the dentist tomorrow but they
called to say the office would be closed on Friday and would we
like to come in today.
So we figured we would go and get that over and done with today.
Sure is nice to have that over with.
It was just a cleaning and I'm happy that we both can say,
"Yay, no cavities." ๐Ÿฆท
We each got a little goodie bag.
After our appointments we went to Annie's Kitchen here in town
and had lunch.
Stopped at the library too and picked up the next book
club meeting book, aptly titled In the Midst of Winter.

So that's it for today.
Hope your day was a happy one.

A quiet day

I walked a mile down in the basement waiting for it to
get light enough to walk outside.
Then I went outside and walked up and down the lane a few times.
It was 20 degrees with a very light freezing mist in the air.
Saw three deer this morning run across the lane again and duck
under the fence.  Must have been the same ones from yesterday
because they followed the exact same path.

Don't see any people at all walking the lane.
By the time I got home my coat was covered in a light layer of ice.
๐ŸฆŒ     ๐ŸฆŒ     ๐ŸฆŒ
No work at the old house today.  Took a day off to get some house
work done.

Once again this afternoon I read and worked on the
counted cross stitch project.
I have half of the words of the saying done now.

Another day of no sun and a few snow showers.

Off to church in a few minutes.
Hope your day was a happy one.

Outside Walking

19 degrees this morning and cloudy.
Waited till 7:15 when it was light enough and then went outside to walk.
No walk to town though because the streets to get there have
icy patches and the sidewalks in town are a mess because
only a couple of people clear them.
But I did have a great walk around the neighborhood and up
and down the lane a few times.
Up at the end of the lane is where my friend and neighbor
Theresa lives.
First time walking up the lane 5 deer ran across from one side of the
woods to the other.  They didn't jump the fence but ducked under it.
You can see the fence in the first picture.  Amazing to watch them
run, duck under the fence and keep running.
(and it wasn't under the part of the fence that is broken)
You wouldn't think they'd fit under it!
Saw one more deer do the same thing on the second pass and
the third pass I stopped to listen to how quiet it was in the woods
and heard a woodpecker.  Sounded loud in the quietness.
⛄️     ⛄️
Ken had made some of those cherry danishes again for breakfast
and had them waiting when I got back home.
Another morning working at the old house.
We traded jobs today.
I went down in the basement and painted and he worked on
the kitchen cabinets. He has started on the other side of the room.
This afternoon I finished reading These Happy Golden Years of
the Little House books.
Kind of sad that they have come to an end.
I sure did enjoy reading them.
There is one more book,
The First Four Years about Laura and Almanzo.
Not that many pages in it and I should be able to finish it later this evening.

Worked just a little bit on the cross stitch
and then it was time to get supper ready.
Made Tuna Casserole.
I say tuna but I use canned chicken.
Our sons favorite meal and I think of him every time
I make it.  Funny that he called this evening as I was making it.

Never did see the sun today but still it was a good day
and when the sun DOES make an appearance oh how happy we will be. ๐Ÿ˜Š
Hope your day was a happy one.

Making a Snow Angel

⛄️     ⛄️
Once again my morning walk was loops around the basement track.

After breakfast we were back at the old house working again.
One side of the kitchen cabinets are now done.
The other side just has a few cabinets so the kitchen should be done very soon now.

Ken started painting down in the basement.
It already looks a lot brighter down there and more welcoming.

I wiped down all the baseboards and put some scratch cover on
the places where needed in the TV room, living room and dining room.
By the time 12:30 rolled around I was ready to go back home!!

No sun today but no snow either.  By afternoon it was in the low 20's
and I went outside and did some snow shoveling.
Hard to shovel snow on stones.
Walked around a bit and then made a snow angel.
Ken took these pictures.
Hard part is getting up without ruining the angel.
The Snow Angel
Monday and half price pizza at Brenda's but we decided to stay home
and make our own pizza.

Finished reading Plowed Over by Ellen Ann Callahan.
It was her second book of a series.
This one was OK but I thought the first book was a lot better
than this second one.
What I liked about it, is that the author lives here in the area and
it was fun to read about places I know.
She even mentioned eating at Brenda's sitting by the window
overlooking the lake.

Well that's it for today.
The sun is supposed to come out tomorrow.
Won't that be nice!!  ๐Ÿ˜Š

I gave Carol the scarf today at church and she was very happy with it.
I am so glad she like it.

I had some left over gray yarn
and with that I started knitting a scarf for myself
and used size 13 knitting needles
so it came out big and chunky.
Didn't have enough so went to Walmart yesterday and got
more of the same yarn.
Knitted quite a while yesterday and finished it.
It is so soft and warm and came in handy today
as the cold weather and snow continues.

A bit of sun

13 degrees this morning and once again the snow was coming down
but the wind has died down.

Stayed inside again this morning and walked down in the basement.

We went over to the old house this morning and spent another
morning painting.  Feels like those kitchen cabinets are never
going to get done.
Ken went around and got all the switch plate and outlet
covers off all the walls to get ready for painting.
Will do the basement after we finish the main floor.

Picture is of some snow covered cone flowers that I never
cut down in the fall.
After lunch the sun finally made an appearance and the
temperature went up to 18 degrees.
So I put on my warmest coat and went outside.
Walked up and down the lane a couple of times.
Nice to get outside and feel some sun on my face.
Took this one this afternoon too looking right at the sun.
Worked some more on the counted cross stitch
and read some more this afternoon.

Haven't had ice cream for a few days and looking forward
to having some later this evening.

Hope your day was a happy one.

Another snowy day

This morning was the same as yesterday with snow and wind
but a little colder at 12 degrees.
So it was another day for walking in the basement.

Today was my book club meeting and I was wondering if it would be
cancelled because of the snow.
Checked if school was closed because that is usually what determines
if the meeting will be cancelled.
School was on a two hour delay so went to the library.
Ken dropped me off and then went to get some more work done
at the old house.
A couple of snowy pictures driving to town.
 ☃️     ☃️     ☃️
Turned out that the book club meeting was cancelled after all.
I stayed at the library anyway.
Got a couple more books checked out and starting reading one of them
until Ken came to pick me up.
I already had 2 library books
at home but just couldn't help myself.
Picked up an audio book and thought I'd listen to it while I knit.
When I was told that the book club meeting was cancelled
Kim, one of the librarians offered to drive me home.
Wasn't that so nice!!?
You won't find that happening in a big town!!
Told her thanks but Ken would be coming to get me.

Back home this afternoon I finished the latest puzzle of
the toy store.  (1000 pieces)
Then I worked on the counted cross stitch project I'm making for a friend.
Don't have enough done on it yet to post a picture but will one of these days.
It is of her favorite quote.
Using a simple back stitch for the words and then will do some kind
of border around it.

That's it for today.
Hope yours was a good one.
