Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A little bird told me

A few little sayings you may have heard
but may not realize that the original idea came from the the Bible.

A Little Bird Told Me
Ecclesiastes 10:20
Curse not the king, no not in thy thought, and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber:
for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.
🕊     🕊
Laughter is the best medicine
Proverbs 17:22
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine:
but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

    💖     💖

I am sick at heart
Proverbs 13:12
Hope deferred maketh the heart sick;
but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

💔     💔
Saved by the skin of my teeth
Job 19:20
My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped
with the skin of my teeth.

These are just a few and I'm sure there are many more. Do you know of any others?

A Blessed Sunday to you.
Jesus Love you.

I did know the one about laughter...I feel like I know others but cannot think what. But my sister-in-law and I always talk about the merry heart doing good like a medicine.

'Handwriting on the wall' can be read about in Daniel 5.

These are all common sayings that I grew up with, but I had no idea they originated from the Bible. My mother seemed to be quite friendly with little birds because that was one of her favorite sayings, "A little bird told me." That was usually when my younger brother and I had been up to some mischief and she wanted to let us know that she knew. Of course, in reality, it was an older brother who had told her.

Just goes to show ... there really is very little in today's world that is "original."

You've been weighed in the balance and found wanting. Or something like that. They used it in a movie, The Knight's Tale. Daniel 5:27

Those are so neat. I can't think of any right off hand but I'm sure I've read lines in the Bible that made me think of sayings today.
