Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Tom and Jerry

Morning sun gave way to a cloudy afternoon.
Warmed up to 34 degrees so we have a little melting going on
but it will take a while for town to be good for walking.
In the meantime I walk inside and outside around the house.
Sunrise 7:32

Did a load of laundry.
Can only do one load a day because that is all
that fits on my drying rack.
Got started on my weekly house cleaning and changed a few small things around.
The little red table, two boxes, and the old sewing notions box I've
added to the corner.

Finished the latest puzzle.
This was a fun one to do and it was the first time we did it.

This week started a new kind of candy that Ken is putting out around
the house for me to find.
Two mini kitkats.
Today's find was on the old scale.

This is my last two pieces of Fiestaware.
The blue bowl is cream soup bowl
and the turquoise mug is called a Tom and Jerry Mug.

You are probably wondering why it is called a Tom and Jerry Mug.
It's not from the cartoon characters.
Tom and Jerry is an old fashioned term for drinking mugs
based on an alcoholic drink made with rum and eggs
that was popular back in the 1800's.

The Tom and Jerry is a warm, spicy, rum-based cocktail.
It consists of a batter made of stiffly beaten egg whites,
with egg yolks, butter, sugar, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla, and cinnamon folded back in. That batter is added to a mug and then rum,
Cognac, and warm milk are incorporated on top.

That's all for today.
Happy Monday and thanks for visiting.

Past my knees

I guess no one will be surprised when I say another day for
getting my steps mostly inside again.
7 degrees this morning, snow, and wind.

Outside the back door.

Opened the door and took this picture.

No knitting group at the library again - library closed because of the snow.
Besides no way could I get down the driveway.

After lunch when there were just a few flurries fluttering around
we went outside to try and clear the driveway.
Ken on the tractor and I shoveled where the tractor can't get to.
It was 10 degrees and windy but I stayed warm shoveling.

Top of the driveway

Looking down the driveway

Ken went back inside and I tried to walk around in the snow.
Pretty hard going walking in snow past my knees,
but it was fun.

Ken took this picture of me from inside the house.

Seemed like a good day for some nice hot soup so for supper I made
Looking forward to eating that in a little while.

FiestaWare photo of the day.
6" dessert bowl
These are the only two colors I have.

Happy Saturday and thanks for stopping by.

Platters

Snowed all day so another inside walk.
Town still no good for walking around.

Finished up the house cleaning for this week.

David and Liz couldn't get up their driveway so they left their Jeep
at our house and drove the ATV up to their cabin.
They will have to come and go that way for a couple of days.
They stayed a while here at our house and we had
a nice visit.

Started the weave-it baby blanket for February.
Colors for this one are red, blue, and black.
I think this one is going to be my favorite! 🙂

Did more on the puzzle and finished reading my latest book.

A few more pieces of Fiestaware.
12 1/2 inch oval platters
These are the three colors that I have.

Happy Friday and thanks for stopping by for a visit,

Ginny - Yes, I'm getting quite a long rest from walking in town, but I have still been getting all my steps in for the day.  Mostly in the house but I do go out and walk around here at the house some days. I've only been able to walk in town 2 times for all of January so far.  I've NEVER gone that many days before without walking in town.

2 more Fiesta dishes

What can I say about my town walk except that it is still not happening.
Sunrise is now at 7:34

Gathered all of my baby blanket supplies together and left for church
at 9:00 for a baby blanket work morning.
You can see the blanket I made for January
Just 7 of us there but always enjoy being part of this women's group.

Didn't do any work this afternoon.
Read
Puzzled
Knitted

Didn't even have to make supper.
While I was gone this morning Ken made us a big pot of
bean vegetable soup.
No recipe, Ken makes it up as he goes.
I just have to put some refrigerator rolls in the oven.

These pieces of Fiesta are called
Utility or Celery Trays
Only have a yellow and green one.

That's all folks.
Happy Thursday and thanks for stopping by.

Cold and sunny

A cold morning with a temperature of 2 degrees so no walking in town yet.
The sidewalks and side streets are a mess in town.
It may be awhile till I can walk there again.
I've still been getting all my steps in each day in the house.
It was another windy day but at least the sun was shining.

We made the trip to Walmart to get a new battery for the tractor.
While there we finally got our food shopping done.
We hadn't been food shipping in two weeks so we spent a small fortune this week.

I put the groceries away when we got home and Ken installed the
new battery in the tractor so now we are ready for the next snow fall.

Sewed a couple more rows onto the baby blanket and will finish
that up this evening.

One of my favorite meals for supper tonight.
Roasted Vegetables and Sausage
It's in the oven right now and it smells delicious.
The vegetables I used this time are potatoes, an onion, carrot, red pepper,
parsnip, and a turnip.

Todays Fiestaware two pieces are called comports.
These are the only colors I have.
Small yellow one is called a Sweets Comport and is just 3 1/2" tall.
The green comport is 12" in diameter.
I use it as a fruit bowl.

That's all for today.
Happy Wednesday and thanks for stopping by.

Ken plans on posting a train picture or video from his train layout
every day or two.
Hope you check it out.

Ginny - I live in north western Maryland in Garrett County, the farthest north and west you can get and still be in the state. Sometimes we don't even feel like we are part of Maryland. 🙂 Our weather is so different from the rest of the state!!

Deb - We do the jigsaw puzzles on the dining room table.  We have a table in the kitchen we can eat on.  Sometimes if we're near finishing the puzzle we just push it aside and have even put a table cloth over the puzzle.

Mari - The Fiestaware dishes are the only dishes we have and use them every day, so they are just in the kitchen cabinets.  On my hutch I will usually change the dishes around with the different colors.  Right now I have the red and yellow pieces on it.

More snow and another puzzle

No surprise here we are getting more snow, wind,
and cold temperatures this Tuesday.
It's 9 degrees now as I type this.
Steps inside again today but I did go outside and shovel the driveway
so got a lot of steps doing that.
I really don't mind shoveling snow.

Wouldn't you know the battery in the tractor decided to die today.
(can't complain though it has lasted over 11 years)
We decided to put off food shopping till tomorrow.

I sewed some weave-it squares together for this months baby blanket
and I'm about half finished.
I have two days to finish it.

Another puzzle got started today.

Ken started a train blog yesterday and has put up a couple of short videos
of his layout with more to come.
Here's the LINK.

Sauce boats (Gravy boats) are todays Fiestaware dishes.
Only have three of the six colors I collect.

That's all I have for today.
Happy Tuesday

Sandi - The colors of the stacking bowls yesterday were not true colors because it was a picture of a picture.  The ones you thought are purple are blue.  The same dark blue as the rest of the fiestaware blue.

Stacking bowls

I'm starting to sound like a broken record.
Walking inside again.
Not only do I walk loops around the basement I also walk
loops up stairs in the house too.
I needed a little variety!
More snow and only 9 degrees this morning.
One good thing is that the wind has died down.
Sunrise is now 7:36 - finally getting lighter each morning.

Usual Monday house chores this morning.

David and Liz and us went to Brenda's for pizza mid afternoon when they
got done with work.
Nice to do that again, it had been a while since we were there.
That was a late lunch and early supper combined.

Finished up the puzzle last night at 11:45 just before going to bed.
This is only the second time we've done this one so will save it
to do again another year.

Some more of my Fiestaware, this time mixing bowls.
There are seven stacking bowls but I've only been able to find three sizes.
My step-dad gave me the big red one for a present many years ago.
They made lids for the four smaller sizes but I've never seen one.

There are 7 sizes and when stacked together they are almost 20 pounds.
Largest bowl is 11 1/2 inches and the smallest is 5 inches.
Large red is a number 7
Ivory 4
Blue and red number 2

Took a picture of a picture to show all 7 of the bowls stacked in all
six colors.
Love how they look all stacked together like that.

That's is for today.
Happy Monday and thanks for stopping by.

Train pictures

Inside steps for me again.
VERY WINDY and cold and icy sidewalks in town.

I put chicken in the slow cooker and poured Italian Zesty salad dressing over it.
Having chicken burritos for supper.

We had the train open house again today.
In spite of the snowy, windy weather we had 17 people come by.
People sure seemed to enjoy themselves, kids and adults alike.

Here's a couple of pictures.
This scene of the tent revival meeting is a new addition.

Here's a wider shot and you can also see a car show going on
in the background.

Over on the right is the firehouse.

Liz came over the house and we had a nice visit while knitting.
Liz has just learned to knit and I was showing her how to cast off.

The Fiesta pieces today and fruit bowls.
Hard to tell by the picture but they are two different sizes.
5 1/2" and 4 3/4"
Only one I don't have is the larger ivory.

Happy Saturday and thanks for stopping by.

Pink Glow

Still not able to walk in town and got most of my steps inside
though I was outside this afternoon.

This morning about 8:00 I took this picture from the front door.
This is facing west!
The whole sky was this pink color - so pretty.

Baked another batch of chocolate chip cookies for tomorrow.
We are giving the train open house another try.
It is supposed get warmer and rain tonight and then turn to snow tomorrow.

We went outside and cleared the way of snow down to the basement
door so for people to walk down there.

I walked around outside a little and tried walking around happy trails
but it was too hard walking.
Some places I stepped in snow that went half way up to my knees.
The snow is hard because there are layers of frozen snow.

The Fiestaware photos continue.
Today are Nappy bowls.
There are two sizes.
Small ones 8 1/2"
Large ones  9 1/2
Don't have all six colors in both sizes.

The name of these bowls makes me smile
because when we were in Scotland a diaper is called a nappy.
Nappy for these bowls means open serving bowl.

Looking forward to pizza in just a little while.

That's going to be all for today.
Thanks for stopping by.

A little sunshine

We had sunshine today but still I couldn't walk in town
because of icy and snow covered sidewalks and side roads.
So more walking inside.

Just the basic house chores got done today.

Puzzled and read.

Finished reading Demon Copperhead. (the big book)
I thought the first half better than the last half.
It was a bit drawn out but still I liked it.

We went out in the truck just to see what town was like
and went to McDonalds for a burger and fries for lunch.
Snow from the plows high on the sidewalks.
Main roads are great.

Fiesta Creamer and sugar bowls.
The tray is called a figure 8 and blue is the only color I have.
One yellow creamer and Four sugar bowls.
Never did find any lids for the sugar bowls.

That's all I've got for today.
Thanks for stopping by.

Another puzzle

No morning walk in town and once again it was down in the basement for me.
More snow and LOTS of wind.

A bit of housework got done this morning.

Took the snowman puzzle apart.
That was the third time for doing that one too so off it goes to a new home.
Got the next puzzle out and started setting out the pieces.

The book club meeting tomorrow has been cancelled due to the weather.
Didn't think I'd finish the book anyway so not disappointed and we'll
just discuss the book next month.
I put aside Horse and read some of Demon Copperhead.
When I get done with that I'll go back to Horse.

The Fiestaware today is a few more plates.
These are called compartment plates.
The yellow one is 12" and the others are 10".
These are the only colors I have.

I would have loved to have one of these plates when I was a little girl.
I didn't like the different foods to touch each other and my mom would always
get mad at me.

Supper this evening is meatloaf which is in the oven right now.
We'll be having mashed potatoes and fresh broccoli along with it.

So that's it for today.
Hope you had a great Wednesday
and thanks for stopping by.

Plates

Lots of snow overnight and during the morning.
In the afternoon is changed to a light misty rain.

Looking out my front door about 7:30 AM.

Steps once again taken inside.

Out the back door mid morning.

After morning chores did some reading of the book club book, Horse.
Have read just over 100 pages and like it.
May not finish it in time for the book club meeting
on Thursday but I'll go anyway.

It was a nice day to stay cozy inside.
We didn't even venture out to go food shopping this morning.

Finished the snowman puzzle last night.

In the afternoon we went outside and I cleared the bricks in front of
the garage of snow and Ken was on the tractor getting the driveway
clear and also the big pile of snow that the snow plow leaves at the
end of the driveway.
The snow was very heavy - I got a good work out.

Todays Fiestaware picture is plates.

I have all six colors in plate sizes,
6"
7"
9"
10"
with a few extra plates in blue and yellow.

The big plate is called a chop plate and is 13".
I have that in just 4 colors.
Blue
Torquoise
Ivory
Yellow

Thanks for popping in for a visit.
Happy Tuesday

Comment Replies:
Deb - No, didn't inherit the Fiestaware.  I've collected it over the years in antique shops, flea markets, and auctions.  Just collect the old original colors.

Dianna - No, haven't been to Flatwood, WV to the outlet.  I haven't bought any Fiestaware for quite a few years.  Don't need anymore and I don't have any new pieces.  Mine are all old.

Kim - I like the 'big book' Demon Copperhead fine.  Still have a little over 100 pages to read yet so don't know how it ends.  You mentioned that it has been compared to Dickens, David Copperfield.  It does remind me of the Dickens book in that it is about a young boy growing up in poverty.  I have read David Copperfield a few times and think it a lot better than Demon. But then Dickens is my favorite author and I've read all of his books.  In my mind you can't get better characters than from Dickens.
All his characters come alive for me.

Disk Pitcher

Walking conditions not so great for walking in town so it
was inside walking for me.
The sunrise time has finally started going the other way this morning.
Yesterday 7:38 today 7:37.

Stayed home today and got some house work done in the morning.

Worked on the snowman puzzle which is coming along but it is a challenge.
Have a little more than 100 pages left to read in the big book,
but had to put it aside so I could start on the book Horse
which I have to have read by Thursday when the book club meets.

Was going to go outside in the afternoon and clear the driveway
but David and Liz came by so I never got around to it.

Today the Fiestaware is of the three disk pitchers that I have.
As you can see the yellow is smaller than the green and blue.

Happy Monday to you and thanks for stopping by.

Open House

I thought it would be snowing when I got up but it wasn't so
I put on my layers of clothes, went to town and walked.
Got to town at 6:40 and it was 30 degrees.
Just cloudy but felt like snow.
Snow started once I was back home.
Sunrise 7:38
Morning Walk Steps 13,766

Walked over to the library first and put a DVD down the drop.
Walked through town and over to the DG Market.
Was going to turn around there but ended up walking around
the industrial park.

Back through town and around the cemetery on the hill.
Walked down the frozen mud farm road

to say hi to the bulls.

No one else out walking that I saw.

🙂    ☁️    🐄

Today was the train open house and some people did show up in spite
of the snow.
Next Saturday we will have another one and hope for better weather.
Four families came by in the morning.
Ken let each child pick a vehicle to take home.
Everyone seemed to really enjoy the layout.

Sunshine

Still a bit dicey for walking in town this morning so
I took some laps around the basement.
But by afternoon the sun was shining and it warmed up from 14 degrees
to 32 degrees so I went to town after lunch and walked in the
light and sunshine.

Got to town at 1:30 and walked around town and one of the cemeteries.
The one cemetery and the ball park were snow covered yet
and I wasn't sure if it was on top of ice.
Nice to get outside to walk and I found plenty of places that I could walk.

I saw a man who I don't know walking his dog and I'm so used to be
out in the morning walking that I said Good Morning.
He just looked at me and didn't say a word.
(I did say I mean good afternoon)

Where ever I've lived I notice that in general morning walkers are more friendly.

I don't know how many walking steps I took because didn't check on my
steps before I left.

In the morning I got the last of this weeks cleaning done
and then worked on the snowman puzzle.

Friday and you know what that means.
PIZZA

Todays Fiestaware are 5 oz juice tumblers.
They were discontinued in the 50's.
I have two ivory but NO turquoise.

Hope your Friday is a good one.

Tea Cups

Planned on going to town and walking.
All dressed and ready to go but when I opened the garage door and walked
outside it was snowing and slippery so I didn't bother driving to town.
Went inside and once again got my steps for the day inside.

Picture taken from the side bedroom window.

Got some housework done.

Not working on the puzzle very much but did do a little more today.

Baked chocolate chip cookies.
Ken has invited people to an open house on Saturday to see his train layout.
Every time people come to see it I bake cookies for them.
Supposed to get more snow on Saturday so it may have to be cancelled
till the following week.

I'm going to do a series on my FiestaWare dishes.
Haven't bought any in 15 years or so.
Sandi asked where I found the dishes.
At auctions and antiques stores.

Starting it off today with the tea cups and saucers.
Fiestaware first appeared at the 1936 Glass Show in Pittsburgh.
Red/orange, green, ivory, blue, and yellow were first.
A year later the turquoise color was added.
The tea cups cost only 25 cents and then in 1956 the price was raised to 65 cents.

That's all I have for today.
Thanks for stopping by.
