Sunrise from the past

I left the house walking to town at 7:15 this morning.
Not dark but not quite light either.
It was 31 degrees, windy and snow flurry showers.
Sunrise 7:37

It seems that little yappy dog Ki and I are back to square one!
As I passed his house he came chasing me down the road again
barking, growling, with his hair standing up on his back.
His owners called to him but he didn't listen and followed me
a while longer and then finally ran back home.
Well at least its just a little thing and scares easily.

Continued walking to town and walked around the lower cemetery
which is right at the edge of town.
Then continued around town up and down some of the side streets
and then back home.

At one point the snow flurries turned into frozen balls of snow,
and I was covered in little white balls.
It soon stopped and was just cloudy for the rest of my walk.

Once again it was very quiet around town and no one
was about.

Walked 6 miles

Didn't even take any pictures this morning.
Nothing caught my eye.
So here is an old picture taken
December 31, 2012 when we still lived in Howard County
and I walked around the lake at Centennial Park.
Sunrise over the lake.

Did the usual every day chores around the house in the morning.

After lunch I made a new treat.
Got the recipe from Pam, who is a friend from church who
makes baby blankets too.
She made this for our cookie exchange last month.
I brought some home for Ken and he really liked them
so got the recipe from Pam.

Worked on the puzzle ๐Ÿงฉ, read ๐Ÿ“–, and knitted ๐Ÿงถ some more.

Ken made us nachos for supper.
Sounded like a good supper for New Years Eve.

We could have gone to church to watch a movie and then
play games afterward but we decided to spend the
evening at home.

Happy New Year's Eve
Be safe.

A happy day to you.

Rain and Sun

Another drive into town and started walking at 6:50.
It was a very warm 50 degrees,
but lots of rain and very windy.
Sunrise 7:37

Had all my rain gear on today,
pants, yellow slicker, water proof walking shoes,
and an umbrella.

Walked through town and realized my umbrella was useless
with all the wind so walked back to the Jeep and left it there.

Continued through town again, and up and down all the streets.
Around the ball park loop and both cemeteries.
It was really windy around the cemetery on the hill because
it is so out in the open.

The town put Christmas wreaths on all the graves of all the veterans.

The rain came and went in spurts and at times it stopped completely.
Here the clouds started breaking up and a bit of sun appeared for
about a minute and then started raining again.

Didn't see any one else out walking.
Very quiet around town.
It rained on the drive home but later in the morning
the sun came out though it stayed windy.

Walked 6 miles

๐ŸŒง     ๐ŸŒง     ๐ŸŒค

While walking I had a yen for French toast
so that's what I made us for breakfast.
Ken always waits for me to get home to eat breakfast with me.

Got all the Christmas decorations down and put away this morning.
Nice to have the house back to normal.

Finished reading Caroline, Little House Revisited.
Rose - didn't like it as much as you.
I was a bit disappointed in it.
Maybe it was because I recently read the books and just
finished the TV series.
It just seemed more of the same!!

Worked on the latest puzzle a little.
It is slow going!!

Taking a bit of a break from making squares since I already
have January's Baby Blanket done and did a little knitting.

That's been my day.
Till next time . . .

Church and reading plan

Another scene from Ken's train layout.

A look inside the church.
Ken even painted the figure inside to look like our Pastor.

Today at church I picked up a Daily Bible Reading Calendar
for 2020.
Every day I read some of the Bible and by the end of the year
have the whole Book read.

This reading schedule is an ambitious one but one I hope to do.

Following this plan by the end of the year
I will read through the Old Testament once,
the New Testament twice,
Psalms twice
and Proverbs 12 times.

Do you have a Bible reading plan?

A Blessed Sunday to you.

Saturday

Drove the Jeep to town and started walking at 7:00.
Another warm morning, 45 degrees, calm and cloudy.
Sunrise 7:37

This morning again I walked over to the library and dropped
a DVD down the slot.
We watched David Copperfield by Charles Dickens last evening.
It was good but seemed to end very abruptly.
Read the book years ago and actually have a copy
so decided to read it again to see if it ends the same way.
The book has over 800 pages in it and the print is very tiny.
I've read a couple chapters of it and will be reading it in
between the library books I've gotten out.

Back to my walk.
After the library I walked around town and then over to the
industrial park and walked around in there.

Wondered what this sign was all about
and then it hit me.
There was a Christmas decorating contest in town.  This was in front of the business winners.  Another sign and bow was in the yard of the old Victorian house in town
which won in the residential category.

Left the industrial park and went back through town and around the ball park loop.
At one point it looked like the clouds would give way to some sun
but by the time I got back to the Jeep it was just cloudy again.

Once again it was very quiet around town.
Walked 6 miles

☁️     ๐ŸŒค     ๐ŸŒค

Got a bunch of house stuff done in the morning.
Thought about putting hanging the clothes outside on the line
but wasn't to sure about the weather.
Looking back I should have because the sun
came out in the afternoon.

Got the makings of Chili in the slow cooker first thing this morning.
We had the chili this evening for supper in taco salad.
Plenty chili left over for tomorrow.
(chili always tastes better the next day)

This afternoon we went out and got a few errands done.

That's been my Saturday.
Till next time . . .
a happy day to you.

A tiny lawnmower

Drove to town again this morning and started walking at 6:45.
A warm 44 degrees, calm, but felt like rain
so I took my umbrella along and left it in the Jeep.
 Sunrise 7:37

Walked over to the library and dropped a DVD down the slot.
By this time a light rain started so I went back to the Jeep
and got the umbrella.
Noticed the bakery was closed and a sign on the door
said they would be back open Jan 2.

Continued around town and made my way over to the ball park
and walked that loop a couple of times.
Back around town, past our old house and
walked the roads behind the house.

The rain had stopped by now and I walked to the cemetery
on top of the hill and around there a few times.

It looked like it was going to clear up and I watched the sun
just coming over the hill.

Didn't last though and before long it was just cloudy and when
I got home it started raining again.
Quiet around town.
Didn't see any one around.
Walked 6 miles
☁️     ๐ŸŒง     ☁️

Got a bit of house work done in the morning but the afternoon
I spent sewing, reading, and starting the next puzzle.
Still working on the border so here is just the picture of the box.
This one is a bit of a challenge.

Didn't quite finish sewing the baby blanket yesterday but
did finish it today.

Ken has been working on his train layout and I wanted to
show you the lawnmower he made out of bits of plastic.
Didn't it come out great!?

It has been a dreary day but we've been happy
puttering about the house.

Hope your day had been a happy one.

Pretty Skies

This morning I got tired of waiting for it to get light enough
to walk so I drove the Jeep to town.
Started walking at 7:00.
Temperature was pretty warm at 41 degrees for this time of year.
The weather was calm and party sunny once the sun rose.
Sunrise was 7:36

Some pretty skies out there this morning.
Took this when I first got to town.

This second picture was taken just a few minutes later
a little farther down the road.
Amazing how fast the colors change.

Walked over to the library and dropped off a book down the slot
and then on over to the post office to drop mail down that slot.

Continued walking up and down all the streets
and then the ball park loop.

Then it was around the lower cemetery a couple of times
and lastly around the cemetery up on the hill.

It was a bit smelly by the cemeteries.
I was surprised to see that Farmer Marvin has spread manure
on a couple of his fields.
That usually happens in the spring.

Another quiet morning around town.
No animals today but did see a man walking up the hill
to the cemetery as I was coming down.
Have seen him a couple of times but don't know who he is.

Walked 6 miles

⛅️     ☁️     ๐ŸŒค

Later in the morning we drove to town to go to the library.
Had a couple more books to pick up that was on hold.
Caroline Little House Revisited and
The Lighthouse Keeper's Daughter (Jan book club selection)
were the two on hold and I also checked out the
Next Louise Penny book.

 Already started reading Caroline.

Worked on the baby blanket too and got all 10 rows of the squares sewn.
Now just have to sew the 10 rows together.
(have two of them done so far)
Might finish this evening, if not it will be done tomorrow.

Didn't get any work done today,
just spent my time having fun.

That's all for today.
Till next time . . .
a happy day to you.

Merry Christmas

A quiet but nice Christmas for us today.
Made us chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast.

We just had nice relaxing day.
I got some reading done and finished the weave-it squares
for the January baby blanket.
I'll be starting to sew them together later this evening.

I didn't go walking this morning but after lunch
I went walking around Happy Trails.
It was a nice warm day in the 50's!!
It was so quiet and peaceful.
Every so often I would stop and listen to the quiet.

Maybe this little Charlie Brown tree will be a good choice for next
years Christmas tree.

A very Merry and Blessed Christmas to you all.

Happy Christmas Eve

Left the house again for my morning walk at 7:15.

The temperature was 31 degrees, calm and once the sun
rose, sunny.
 Sunrise 7:35
Though the daylight hours are getting longer, the longer part
is at the end of the day.
Sunrise will still be a few minutes later here.
Not until January 8 will the mornings start to get lighter.

Had a nice walk to town.
On the way Ki ran down to the road to give his token bark at me
before running back home.

Walked around the lower cemetery and a loop around town
before heading back home.

Saw a woman in the distance walking.
She had on a bright orange sweatshirt and black sweatpants
just like me.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Walked my usual 6 miles

๐ŸŒค     ๐ŸŒค     ๐ŸŒค

Did the usual chores and then just had a day around the house
doing this and that.

We had a candle light Christmas Eve church service at 5:00.
Just a short message,
one of the young people read the Christmas Story in Luke,
and we had the Lord's Supper.
A beautiful way to remember that Christmas is about Jesus.

Minions

Up and out of the house walking at 7:15.
Not quite light out but the snow made it brighter
and it was clear.
34 degrees and calm.

Walked into town and went straight to the library to drop
off a book and then to the post office to mail back a Netflix,
the last of the Little House on the Prairie.
The first few seasons were certainly better that the last few!!

These minions appear here every year and every time I
walk by they make me smile.

Walked a loop around town and then over to the lower
cemetery and walked around there.

The kids Christmas break must have started already
because I didn't see any school buses about today.
Seemed to be a bit more cars driving around though.

Didn't see any animals today
or people either.

Walked 6 miles

๐ŸŒค     ☀️     ๐ŸŒค

A nice sunny and warm day (got up to 50) so took advantage and hung
the sheets outside on the line to dry.
Had to dry the other load on the drying rack inside,
ran out of clothesline.

Reading another Louise Penny book, Glass Houses.
Hard to put down so I've read a good part of the afternoon.

Had pizza at Ledo's for supper this evening.

Another day closer to Christmas.
Hope you are all ready for it and can now relax

That does it for today.

Bulky and thick scarf

Didn't walk inside at all today.
Waited for it to get light enough to go walking and left the house at 7:25.
It was 24 degrees, no wind, and cloudy.
Sunrise 7:34

So nice to have a normal walk to town.
Saw a couple of deer on the way.

Some ice around yet on the side roads so when I got to town
I stayed walking around the cemetery up on top of the hill.

Just down from the cemetery is where the horses and bulls live
so walked down there to see how they were doing.

One of the horses was eating the hay

and the other 4 were roaming around the pasture
and too far away to get a picture.

Then went over by the barn to see the bulls.
These three stayed around to get their pictures taken.
A few more were wandering around and I could see some others
in the barn.

Walked around the Drane house then around the cemetery again
before heading back home.

Didn't see any others out but did see Molly.
She is the Newfoundland dog I met back in March when she
was just a puppy, though a very big puppy.
She has grown into a huge dog now.
Molly was headed up to the cemetery with me but
then I heard her owner call her and she went running back home.

Walked 6 miles

☁️     ⛅️     ๐ŸŒค

We went to town and did a few errands.
As we were arriving back home we noticed that one of
Farmer Eugene's young heifers had escaped.
We got out of the truck and ushered her back in the pasture.
It was the same one that that we've led back to the pasture
a few times before.

I finished knitting the scarf using the very bulky yarn and big needles.
I was just thinking that it was way too thick and didn't really like it,
when Ken saw it and said it would be perfect for him.
He liked how thick and soft it was and said put around his neck
and face would surely keep out the wind.
So I gave it to him.

That's it for this day.
Till next time . . .
a happy day to you.

Friendly Dogs

I walked a mile in the house waiting for it to get light out,
then headed out the door at 7:25 for a walk outside.
It was 17 degrees, but calm and no wind.
Too early yet for the sun to be shining but once
it came over the mountain we had a sunny day.
Sunrise 7:34

Walked to the end of my road and then made a right up
the hill instead of walking to the main road.

Walked passed the house of one of our neighbors who live about a mile away
and as I walked by, 2 dogs came running out of the yard.
They were both Labs though and very friendly.
I've never met a mean Lab.
When I continued on my way they both started following me
up the road.  We were getting pretty far from their house so I turned
around and walked back to their house.
Just then the owner came along in his truck to collect the dogs.
He apologized about the dogs and then we had a little chat.

I've seen him pass by as I walk and he's waved to me but we
had never met before.  So now I know another neighbor, Tony.
Forgot to ask the names of the dogs!

After that I walked back up the hill and continued my walk.

Also walked up and down the lane and saw lots of animal tracks in the snow,
deer
rabbits
and these wild turkey ones.

Counting the mile in the house I walked 6 miles.
๐ŸŒค     ☀️     ๐ŸŒค
Ken had breakfast with Edd this Friday and on the way home
stopped at Walmart and did the grocery shopping. ๐Ÿ™‚

After he got home and I put everything away,
I made up a couple of Christmas goodie plates
and we went in the ATV to deliver one to our neighbors
Theresa and Ron.
Drove to town in the Jeep and dropped another plate
off at the post office.
This afternoon I read and then knitted.
Using very large needles with some big chunky yarn.
Making a scarf and not sure if I like it or not.
Will have to finish it and then decide.
That's about it for today.
Till next time . . .
a happy day to you.

Sunshine

Today the wind has died down, it is not snowing, and the sun is shining.
BUT it was only 7 degrees this morning.
I bit too chilly for walking, there is still ice around so
one more day of walking in the house.

Another train layout picture.
An escapee is apprehended.

The snow plow finally made its way up the hill to our house
mid morning today.

Late morning it warmed up a bit to 17 degrees and we both
went outside to clear off the driveway.
Nice to get outside for a while.

What a welcome sight to see the sun shining.

We went to McDonald's and had lunch.
We both had the Southwestern Chicken Salad.
It is really quite good.
We sat in the parking lot and watched people come and go
as we ate.

Drove to town and dropped some mail off at the post office.
Then stopped in at the library.
Another book was waiting for me to pick up.
Also made up one of those plastic plates I bought with
some baked goods and brought it to the library to say
Merry Christmas.

Driving through town I took notice that the side streets and sidewalks
still have quite a bit of ice and snow on them
and realized I won't be able to walk in town tomorrow.
I'll probably stick to the lane and the street near home.

More house work got done today as well as
some reading and weaving squares.

That's all she wrote.
Till next time . . .
a happy day to you.

Snowy

Once again this morning I made the decision to walk inside
because of more winter weather.
Snow and Icy conditions.
Started off with 3 miles in the basement.
Another 1 1/2 miles upstairs a half mile at a time in between
doing house stuff.
The last 1 1/2 miles down in the basement once again.

Just after lunch I bundled up and went outside.
It was 18 degrees, snowing, and VERY WINDY.
Walked out the basement door.

and down to the mail box and down our road just a short way.

Though I wasn't cold with my super warm coat the wind
was blowing the snow right in my face making it stinging cold.
So back inside I went.
Still I'm glad I got to go out if just for a short while.
No sense in clearing the driveway yet with the snow still coming down.
We didn't make it to church this evening either.

Did some more baking today.
This time Philly Gift Cakes.
They really do make great little gifts.
Also in the kitchen I got a meatloaf cooking in the slow cooker
this morning so wouldn't have to think about supper later when
I was tired of being in the kitchen.

That about took care of this day.
They sure do fly by.
Thanks for stopping by.
Till next time . . .

Waterfall

Oh my another day to walk in the house.
Though I did go outside this morning and cleared the driveway.
Ken helped too and then spread some salt on it.
Then we walked around the yard a bit.
Nice to at least get some fresh air.

It has warmed up a bit and the arched bridge has
a nice little stream flowing under it.

The waterfall has water flowing over it too.
Seems like Ken did a good job diverting the water coming down
the mountain away from the house.

Took a video of the falls too.

We drove to town late morning and did a few errands.
Went to the library,
post office, and
then stopped at the Dollar General to pick up some
Christmas plastic plates.
Want to put some Christmas goodies on them to give away.

I baked some Pheffernusse Cookies this afternoon.
Molasses are an ingredient that goes in them and I thought
I had some in the pantry but when I looked, there wasn't any.
Found out a good substitute for molasses is HONEY.
So I tried it and the cookies came out great!!

The weather has turned cold again this afternoon and we are
getting some more snow.  Supposed to be quite cold by tomorrow morning.

That's it for today.

Another Army Picture

Not such a great weather day for walking outside.
Snow and freezing rain.
So got my 6 miles in walking inside throughout the day.
Walked basement loops but also have a loop upstairs
in the house that I walk.

Another picture of a different part of the army base
from the layout.
Notice the man fishing on the wall.

I made some Chocolate Chip Cookies this morning.
A new recipe that I tried.  They have Rice Krispies in them.
We liked them but they are not as good as the Chocolate Chippers

Army Base

The weather this morning was not that great and I
chose to walk inside.
It was right at 32 degrees and raining and I was afraid I'd
come across icy patches.
(late afternoon it started snowing)
I guess I was being extra cautious since my ankle
is just better.  Didn't want to take a chance of twisting it again.

An army base on the train layout.
Some soldiers out training.
We started watching a new show on Netflix last night
called Kingdom and it is pretty good.
About a lawyer in a small town.
Nice to have found another show we like.
They are few and far between now a days.

I spent most of the afternoon reading and finished A Great Reckoning.
This is book 12 in the Gamache series.
A lot of times I find when authors write a long series of books
that after a while the books aren't as good.
Not so with this series.

Morning Walk

Happy to say I had a normal outside walk this morning.
Drove the Jeep to town and started walking 6:50.
22 degrees, cloudy, and a little breeze.
Sunrise 7:29
Driving to town the 5 deer from our back yard
were all in the middle of the road just down from the house.
I went very slowly and they all kept running back and forth
across the road before finally going up into the field.
Started my walk going to the library and dropped a book down the book drop.
Then over to the post office and put a letter down the mail slot.

From there I walked through town and over to the
industrial park and made a loop around there.

Then it was back to town and over to the ball park and
walked that loop.
Was careful walking down this side street that goes to the ball park.
On that uneven surface is where I twisted my ankle and fell on Monday.

But here it is Friday and I'm back walking.
Seems a lot longer than just 3 days that I haven't been walking!!

Walked on over to both the cemeteries and walked around them too.
A light freezing rain started just as I was getting back to the Jeep.
Driving home I was behind the salt truck.

Sure nice to be walking outside again.
Walked 6 miles

☁️     ๐ŸŒจ     ☁️

Started on the train puzzle today.
This one is quite a challenge.
The next baby blanket I'm working on for the month of January is a
pink and dark red check.

I made bean and spinach soup today.
Don't have a recipe but it is very easy to make.
I took a picture of it cooking on the stove
because it is one of those foods that when it is done it doesn't
make for a good picture!!

Some olive oil goes in the pot first and crushed garlic is added.
Then I add pepperoni, 2 cans of cannellini beans, some water
and a LOT of spinach.
It is done when all the spinach cooks down but tastes best when left
for cook for a while.

A few years back I knitted these Christmas stockings.
This house is the first house we've ever had a mantel to hang them on.

Well that about it for today.
Till next time . . .
a happy day to you.

Sandi - Yes, I do think of that.  What a nice walk it would be. ๐Ÿ™‚  Ken has put me in a scene walking on his layout.  I've posted it before.  The picture is HERE.

Over the bridge

Had good intentions of getting up and walking this morning
before I had to leave for Blankets for Babies.
I can't believe I didn't wake up until 7:15.
Not enough time to go walking so missed another day.
Thought that maybe was God's way of telling me to wait one more day!

Had a great time with the ladies at Blankets.
We worked on the blankets,
and then Sandy sang a song, Dorothy read a poem,
and Kathy gave the devotional.
After all that it was time to eat.
We had soup, salad, sandwiches and all the trimmings.
But that wasn't all, next came the tasting and trading of the cookies.
I ate way too many cookies.

This was the same day as my book club meets so I missed that this month.

When I got home I walked 3 miles inside so at least a got a little walk in.

Another scene from Ken's trains.

That's about all I had time for today,
so until next time . . .
A happy day to you.
Thanks for visiting.
