Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Sidewalks clear

44 degrees and cloudy for walking.
Showers were predicted early this morning but it never did rain on my walk.
Sunrise 7:37
Walked 6 miles

All the snow and ice is now gone except for little bits of it here and there.
Nice to be able to walk on the sidewalk once again.

Walked all over town, up and down the main road and the side streets as well.
Didn't want to get too far away from the Jeep incase it started raining.
Walked around both of the cemeteries.

KitCat came over to get a pet.
Don't even have to call to him now, he just comes over by me.

Saw a runner who I've never seen before.
Maybe one of her New Years resolutions is to exercise.

Not much happening around town, very quiet.

☁️    ๐Ÿฅพ    ๐Ÿ˜Š

This morning we went to town and got a few errands done.

Once back home I baked a couple loaves of English muffins as requested by Ken.

Was going to take the latest puzzle apart but waiting till David and Liz see it.
I'm all set to start another one.

Another afternoon of puttering about doing a little sewing weave-its, reading, and knitting.

New Years Eve is just another regular day here at our house.
We usually go to bed between 11 and 11:30 and we'll do the same tonight.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit.
I wish you a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Heifers not Bulls

43 degrees this morning when I walked.
It was a cloudy walk but after I got home it was sunny.
Sunrise 7:37
Walked 6 miles

Saw a couple of rabbits on my way to town.
Started walking going back down the main road towards home a ways
before turning around and walking back to town.
Went through town and over to the industrial park.

After walking all around the industrial park walked back through town.

A few of the houses in town that have been for sale a while have sold.
The brick one on the corner and the twin houses.
The For Sale signs are gone and one has a car in the driveway and
the other has a car behind the house.

Walking past the car dealers, Phil poked his head out the door
and wished me a Happy New Year and said it was nice seeing
me back outside walking.
Guess people notice when I don't walk.

On my way up the hill to the cemetery Farmer Marvin stopped
and we had a little talk.
Remember the bulls from yesterday?
They are not bulls at all but heifers that have just been weaned.
Five of them will be sold and the rest stay here.
The bulls have been moved to a field by another barn.

In the post the other day when I walked up to Ron and Theresa's
house I said I could see their house from the cemetery.
Today I took a picture from the cemetery of their house.

Just puttered about the house today not doing much of anything.
Will be putting away the Christmas decorations soon so thought
I just wait till then to get cleaning done.

Made pizza dough and Ken made the pizza for supper.
We sliced up a tomato and topped it with that.

Thanks for stopping by.
Hope your Friday was a happy one.

Walking in Town

40 degrees this morning when I left for town.
Calm and once the sun rose it was sunny with a few clouds here and there.
Sunrise 7:38
Walked 6 miles
Saw three deer on my way to town and 2 on my way home.

So nice to be able to walk around town once again, it's been a while.
Some places I couldn't walk because of the ice.
The main road through town.

Walked up to the cemetery on the hill but not around it.

There were many places that I could walk though.

Made it down to the bulls to see how they were doing.
Looks like all new ones and they look young.
Others must have been sold.

I walked down the road towards home and then back to town.

Some of the side roads were good and I walked up and down them.
Barn Sale road was clear to so went up and down there.

Karen, who I met walking one day had her truck parked on the side
and she had just put some food out for a feral cat. (She named the cat Eleanor).
She is trying to get her to trust her so she can take Eleanor to the vet
to get her neutered.  Karen has adopted two of her kittens.

๐ŸŒค    ๐Ÿฅพ    ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Oh no I went over to the jigsaw puzzle out on the table.
Should have kept going because I put a few pieces in and then
ended up staying till the whole puzzle was finished.
(about 1 1/2 hours)

David and Liz gave us the puzzle for Christmas.
If it looks a little familiar we have another one of an ice cream
truck but it is different.

Temperature went up to 50 degrees today and I spent a couple of
hours outside.  The ice on the driveway was easier to chop up so
I got the driveway mostly cleared. Won't have to slide down it in the morning.
Then I cleared the back deck of all the ice and snow.
There was a couple of inches of snow with an ice of ice underneath the snow.
It was fun taking it off because huge big chunks would just slide off.
Tried to see how big I could get the pieces.

Forgot to mention yesterday that LOTS of branches and a couple
of small trees came down with all that wind we had.
Once the snow is gone I should have a whole lot of deadfall
to put on my fences.

Well that's going to be it for today.
Hope your Thursday was a happy one.
Thanks for stopping by.

Warming

Started out today with a temperature of 24 degrees.
Still icy in town so again walked the first half of my walk
down in the basement.
Took this picture from the basement doors.
Surprised to see the pretty sky because I'm facing west!

 Made banana pancakes for breakfast.
I usually just slice the bananas and put them in the batter
but this time I mashed them up first.
I'll make them this way from now on, much better this way.

After lunch we went to the dump to get rid of a few bags of garbage.
Stopped at the library on the way home to pick up a book and
a couple of DVD's we had on hold.
Looked around a bit and ended up finding two more books to check out.
Drove around town checking out my walking places for ice.
I think there is enough places cleared for walking so in the
morning will give it a try!!
I can always come home if it isn't good for walking.

We ended up having a sunny day with no wind and we had a high of 40!!
Felt like spring!!
I walked around Happy Trails.
Had the ice grippers on my boots and also had my walking stick.

The sun lets you see how icy it is in places.

Coming back down to the house.

Worked on the puzzle a little and also read.
Started sewing the weave-it squares together too.

It's been a good day.
Thanks for stopping by.

Outside

19 degrees and town is still a mess for walking so started off
in the basement once again.

Did some house chores and then we went to the Shop and Save
for grocery shopping.
Checked out the side streets and sidewalks as we drove through
town and it won't be a walking town day tomorrow either.

After lunch the temperature was more normal for this time of
year at 25 degrees but didn't see the sun.

For the other half of my walk I went outside around here.
Good thing I had my ice grippers on my boots because it was very icy yet.
There are layers of ice and snow.

Made a little something for our neighbors Ron and Theresa
for Christmas and walked up the lane to their house to deliver it.
That's their house up the hill which is a mile from our house.

Ron was outside and we chatted awhile.
Picture taken in his driveway.
They have a beautiful view.
When I'm walking around the cemeteries I can see their house.

Coming back down the lane to home.

Back home I had a nice cup of blueberry tea in a pretty Christmas cup.

Finished up the last few weave-it squares for the baby blanket
for January.  Now just have to sew them together.
Tonight I'll go back to knitting on the ripple afghan.

Found some time to read a little also.

Thanks for visiting.
Happy Tuesday

A Lazy Day

It was 7 degrees this morning but 'warmed' up to 17.
Thankfully the wind has died down.
Sunrise 7:36
Another basement walk.

I've been posting pictures of scenes in Ken's train layout.
Today trying to show you how big the layout actually is and
why I can walk around it.
He built the layout in the middle of the basement.

Went to get the mail and never made it down the driveway.
The driveway is a curved hill and
it was a sheet of ice so turned around and went back inside.

Had a lazy day and sat around and read,
made squares and worked on a new puzzle.

We enjoyed our Christmas.
Church was a great way to start the day.

and it was wonderful having them here!!

Coloring

 Another day like yesterday.
This morning it was -10 degrees and still very WINDY.
We had a high to day of 1 degree.
A few snow showers around too.
Sunrise 7:35
Another day for walking in the basement
and another train layout photo.

Did a load of laundry and hung it on my drying rack and
that is about all the work I did today.

This coloring sheet came in the local newspaper.

Today I cut the pictures out and colored them.
I have always liked to color since I've been a little girl.

Finished reading Christmas at Thrush Green by Miss Read.
It is the last book in the Thrush Green series
and I liked all 13 books.

I will continue reading another series by Miss Read,
the Fairacre series.  I've read the first one a while back.

An old picture

Very windy, snowing, with temperatures plummeting from 20 degrees
in the morning to 0 lunch time and as I type this it is -9.
Sunrise 7:35

Back down in the basement today for walking.
Half in the morning and half in the afternoon.

Today I went through all my recipes and did the same with
them that I did with the knitting patterns yesterday.

Did a lot of reading this afternoon and made a few weave-it squares.
Looked out of the window quite often to watch the trees dancing around.

I made Spicy Chicken sandwiches for supper.

This picture is of me when I was a little girl.
We were living with my Grandma at the time.
Back then my parents put up the Christmas tree Christmas Eve.
I had just came down the stairs Christmas morning, turned the corner
and saw the tree.

My Grandma had some pretty flashy wallpaper!!

Thats it for today.

Organizing

Woke up to freezing rain hitting the window so I was back to
walking basement laps this morning.
Walked my first 3 miles before breakfast and the last 3 miles in the afternoon.
Sunrise 7:35
Though the sun is setting later each evening now,
sunrise is still getting earlier for a while.

During the morning I got my house chores done.

This afternoon I went through and organized all my knitting patterns.
Threw out ones I know I'll never get around to knitting.
Then I put them all in a plastic sleeves in a notebook.

In the front and back of the notebook there is are pockets
and I slipped patterns that I'm going to knit in them.
Once I knit them I'll had them to the book.
I have been wanting to do this for a long time and feel good
that I finally did it.
It took a lot longer than I thought it would.
Picked a good day for it - so dreary outside!!
Next I have to do that with my recipes!!

That's all for today.
Just a short post.

Town

Finally got to walk in town this morning.
It was 19 degrees and sunny.
I waited till it was light out so I could see where the ice was.
Pretty good for walking.
Sunrise 7:34
Walked 6 miles
Found a penny

Couldn't walk along the main road and sidewalks because of ice
but did find clear places to walk.
Did a lot of turning around and backtracking when I ran into ice.

Stopped in at the car dealer in town and gave Phil the Wiggleman a
Christmas card and one of the little pumpkin breads.
He was very thankful.

Walked up Barn Sale Rd a ways and back.

Work was going on at the bank drive thru now enclosed in plastic.
I could hear saws and hammering.
Guess it is to keep them a little warmer or maybe so they can work
if it snows.
Just looked a bit strange to me.

Didn't see anyone else out walking.

I took a picture today showing where I was standing when I took
the picture from yesterday looking down to town.

David and Liz's driveway is a winding hilly one and now is pretty
icy from going up and down it.
Ken went out on the tractor which has chains on the back tires
and broke up the ice on their driveway.
David could have done it but they were both working so
Ken said he'd do it.

I got some work done inside the house.

After lunch I just puttered about doing this and that.

Thanks for visiting.

An afternoon hike in the snow

First part of my walk was laps around the basement - 3 miles.
It was 12 degrees outside.
The sidewalks and side streets still aren't all clear of ice
in town so don't feel comfortable walking there yet.

I made us pancakes for breakfast and then we went to
the Shop and Save. Just had to get a few things.

Took this picture from the parking lot.
What looks like a cloud is snow being made for the skiing resort.
There is a good base of snow and with the cold temperatures it is
good for making snow.

I baked some more pumpkin bread before lunch.
8 little loaves for gifts.
Kept one for us.

After lunch we took a hike up through Happy Trails to the
state park which our property backs up to.
A beautiful winding path takes us

to a road in the park.
This road looks pretty level but it goes up hill.

Walked quite a ways along the road.

We got to the top of the hill here and looked down.
Right about in the middle of the picture and a tad lower
is the school I sometimes walk to from town.
To the right I can see the cemetery and the church in town.
Might be hard for you to see.
Anyway it was really cool to look down on it all.

That was the end of our hike and we went back home.
It was beautiful up there and we hiked 3.5 miles.
I thought I could hike it myself on days I can't walk in town
but Ken says it is too remote and worries about me getting hurt.
So I'll only walk with him or David up there.

When we got back home we each had a piece of pumpkin bread.

That's been my day.
Thanks for visiting.

Brenda's Pizza

Started out walking in the basement because town is still no
good for walking.
Then after breakfast went out side and walked around Happy Trails.
It was 20 degrees but the sun was out.

So nice to see the sun shining after so many days.

We had some errands to do.
Brought our garbage to the dump, dropped off books at the library,
picked up a couple of packages from the post office and picked up
a few things from the Dollar General.

David and Liz came by and asked if we wanted to go to Brenda's
and get a pizza for lunch, his treat.
Of course we said yes and we had a late pizza lunch at Brenda's.
It has been years since we've been there and the servers
still remembered us.
This was the first time we have sat down in a restaurant in just about 3 years!!!

Did a little house cleaning this afternoon.
I'm surprised I got the motivation for cleaning in the afternoon!!

Rest of the day I just puttered about the house and then read.

Sunday

 Morning skies from last week.

Luke 2:7

And she brought forth her firstborn son,
and wrapped him in swaddling clothes,
and laid him in a manger;
because there was no room for them in the inn.

๐ŸŽถ Gently Mary Laid Her Child ๐ŸŽถ

 Gentle Mary laid her Child
Lowly in a manger;
There He lay, the undefiled,
To the world a stranger:
Such a Babe in such a place,
Can He be the Savior?
Ask the saved of all the race
Who have found His favor.

 Angels sang about His birth;
Wise men sought and found Him;
Heaven's star shone brightly forth,
Glory all around Him:
Shepherds saw the wondrous sight,
Heard the angels singing;
All the plains were lit that night,
All the hills were ringing.

Gentle Mary laid her Child
Lowly in a manger;
He is still the undefiled,
But no more a stranger:
Son of God, of humble birth,
Beautiful the story;
Praise His name in all the earth,
Hail the King of glory!

A Blessed Sunday to all.

Half and Half

25 degrees this morning and snowing on top of ice.
Knew there wouldn't be any good places for walking in town
so started my walk in the basement and did 3 miles.

After breakfast I went outside to walk near the house.
Ken came with me this time and we walked 3 miles so I got
my 6 miles in - half inside and half outside.

We walked up the lane and then up our neighbor Ron's driveway

That's town way down there.

Then kept going up another neighbors driveway.
(part timers and they haven't been up for a while)
Heading back down the driveway here.

Thought the ice on these trees was unusual.
Never saw anything like it before.

Walked back down the lane past our house and went up and down
 another neighbors driveway.
Nice that neighbors have nice long driveways the we
can go walking up and down!!

It snowed the whole time we walked
but it doesn't seem to be accumulating much.

We tried to shovel our driveway but it was a little snow on top
of ice and we weren't able to clear it
so Ken just threw on some grit on it.

Finished reading another Anne Perry book and I made
some weave-it squares.
I have some yarn left over from other blankets I've made
and I'm using those bits up on this current blanket.

Thanks for visiting.
