Short Walk

It was supposed to rain this morning but it was still dry when I left
for town.  Threw my rain slicker in the Jeep just in case.
Sky didn't look too bad at first and thought I'd beat the rain.

Headed over to the post office and mail off my latest Bible lesson.
As I left the PO it started to rain.
Went back to the car and exchanged my sweatshirt for my rain slicker.
Walked around one of the cemeteries and the ball park.
Should have worn my rain pants because it poured and didn't take long for my
pants to get ringing wet.
Then I got cold and just wasn't enjoying walking so headed back
to the car and home again.
Only got to walk 2.5 miles, but that's better than nothing.
Besides it is the last day of the month and my goal steps for each day
is at least 12,000 and I've surpassed that goal this month by 125,543 steps.
I ended up reaching my goal of 12,000 today anyway.

🌧    ☔️    πŸ™‚

Made French toast for breakfast.

A rainy day so we stayed inside and puttered about the house.
Got a lot of dusting done which is not one of my favorite jobs
but I had fun changing things around a bit here and there.

Supposed to get colder tonight and maybe snow but
I'm not going to believe that!! πŸ˜ƒ

Hope your day was a good one.
Thanks for stopping by.

Coltsfoot

38 degrees this morning when I walked.
A bit of a breeze but sunny.

Saw a few rabbits on the way to town.

First walked over to the post office and dropped some mail down the slot.
Then headed up to the main road and walked to Sale Barn Rd and
up that way.
This pasture is another one of Farmer Marvin's, but no cows there today.

Back from there and I walked around both cemeteries.
Walked around this one for a little while looking at the gravestones.

This picture taken from the corner of the cemetery for a different
view of the Drane house.

Rebecca was out walking with her dog Leo and I saw her two different
times but was too far away to say hi.

Walked 6 miles

Shopping day at the Shop and Save and we went there right after breakfast.
Got that stuff put away and then left for the quarry and got a load of
gravel.  Home for lunch and back out again for the second load.
It is for up at the cabin.

Got a little bit of knitting done but not enough to finish the pink scarf,
that will have to wait for tomorrow.
Just so much you can do in one day!!

Temperatures reached into the 60's this afternoon - a gorgeous spring day.

Thanks for stopping by.
A happy spring day to you.

Inger - You asked if that was our driveway in the picture yesterday.  Not sure what picture you were talking about but there was no picture with our driveway in it.
This is our driveway.

Quite a few of you thought the yellow flowers from yesterdays post were dandelions.  They do like dandelions but they are actually Coltsfoot.  Dandelions won't be around for a while yet.

Anni - did you ever find the link to James Drane at the bottom the posts?  If you didn't you can find it HERE.

A bit of green and some yellow

Yesterday morning when I walked it was raining but 54 degrees!!
This morning it was 27 degrees COLDER and only 27 degrees.
A few snow showers over night but only a very light dusting in some places.
What a difference a day makes.
It was also windy but nice when the sun made an appearance.

The Morning Moon

Saw a couple of deer and a couple of rabbits on the way to town.

Walked around both cemeteries and the ball park loop.
Looked down the hill by the barn where the bulls are and
could only see one of them.
When I got there #55 was having a good scratch but all the others were
in the barn and just making their way out.
55 is my favorite bull - he is usually the first one to come over to see me.

Walked all over town too.
No others out walking but I did see David and Liz on their
way to work.  Liz said she spotted a flash of green and realized it was me
and they came down the street to say hi. πŸ™‚

Here it is Monday again already.
First thing put all the ingredients in the slow cooker to make chili
for tonight for taco salad.

Even though it was still below freezing this morning I hung the
sheets outside to dry anyway.
It warmed up quickly and was sunny and in the 40's before too long.

Got a good start on this weeks house cleaning and before I knew it
lunch time had arrived.

No more work after lunch.  I knitted on the pink scarf and should
have it finished by tomorrow.

Then I went outside and hiked around Happy Trails.

A little bit of green has started showing up

and these pretty little yellow flowers.

Sure enjoyed those tacos for supper.
Now looking forward to our ice cream this evening.
Yes, we still have a dish of ice cream most days. πŸ˜ƒ

Isn't the love.... 🎡

The hymn, ISN'T THE LOVE OF JESUS SOMETHING WONDERFUL,
has been floating around in my head and I've been singing it all week
so I think I'm meant to post it here today. πŸ˜ƒ

John W Peterson - 1921 - 2006

🎡There will never be a sweeter story 🎡
Story of the Savior's love divine
Love that bro't Him from the realms of glory
Just to save a sinful soul like mine.

Chorus
Isn't the love of Jesus
Something wonderful
Wonderful wonderful
O isn't the love of Jesus
Something wonderful
Wonderful it is to me

Boundless as the universe around me
Reaching to the farthest soul away
Saving keeping love it was that found me
That is why my heart can truly say

 Love beyond our human comprehending
Love of God in Christ how can it be
This will be my theme and never ending
Great redeeming love of Calvary

A blessed Sunday to all.

Saturday

The wind finally stopped and this morning when I walked it
was 38 degrees and sunny once the sun came over the mountain.

Saw a couple of deer and a rabbit dart across the street on
on the drive to town.

Walked through town and around the industrial park.

I saw what I think were two raccoons run down into a drainage pipe
in a ditch along the side of the road.

Just past the Dollar General and across the road is Annie's and I went
up there and peeked in the window.  Looks like work has already started
for the Bakery move in.
My friend Bettye told me that Covid was NOT the reason why Annie closed
but that the owner Lisa has retired.
Thanks for the info Bettye. πŸ™‚

Noticed that a new project has started in this back yard.
It will be interesting to watch the progress.

Saw the man with the friendly little dog walking around the ball park loop.
We stopped for a little chat and we finally introduced ourselves.
He is Roger and the little dog is Andy.
I told him I can now stop referring to him as the man with the friendly little dog.
He laughed.

Used up my 6 miles before I got to walk around the cemeteries.

Walked 6 miles
Found a penny

🌀    πŸ™‚    🚢‍♀️

Made our weekly trip to the Dollar General first thing after breakfast.

Sunny day so got another load of wash done and hung up on the line.
Did a few other house chores before lunch.

It was one of those puttering about the house afternoons.
Was outside for a bit, knitted and read.
It was ALMOST warm enough to sit out on the porch and knit.
Walking about or working was fine but to just sit it was a bit cool yet.

Ken gave me a hair trim - about 1 1/2 inches - hair ends at my chin.
Sorry no picture - really hate to pose for a picture.

A happy and healthy day to you.

Morning Sky

Temperature was a mild 57 degrees but very windy.
Lots of clouds racing through the sky and for a while
the sky was black and I thought for sure I'd get rained on but just a
few big drops fell.

All my walking pictures today are of the sky.

There was even a rainbow.

Walked all over town as usual, around both cemeteries, and the ball park.
Walked down to say good morning to the bulls.

No other people out that I saw and no fisherman either.

Walked 6 miles

πŸ’¨    🌀    πŸ™‚

While I was knitting on the baby blanket the needle almost came apart a couple
of times again and I was very lucky that I saved all the stitches.
Couldn't keep on like this so Ken suggested super glueing the pieces
together.  So we tried that.  One side worked great but on the other
side the glue set up quicker than the time it took to screw the needle
in to the other part.  Couldn't save the needle.
I went on line and ordered a new needle.  This one is all one piece so
won't have the problem of it coming apart.

I ordered the needle from Herrschner's and while I was looking around
there, saw some jigsaw puzzles that were on sale.
Bought some new puzzles that we will do next winter.

While waiting for the new needle I will knit on the pink cable scarf
that is only half finished.

Had pizza for supper, but not the frozen kind this time.
Homemade
I made the dough in the bread machine and
Ken made the actual pizza.
Yummy

Well that's all I've got for today.
Thanks for stopping by.
A happy day to you.

Annie's and the Rolling Pin Bakery

This morning the temperature was 45 degrees when I started walking.
A calm morning and I walked through some low hanging clouds.
That sounds so much nicer than saying I walked through some foggy patches.

A pleasant walk around town again.
Loops around both cemeteries and the ball park too.

Three people out walking dogs.
Saw two rabbits hopping about and many birds chirping and flying about.
By far the most common bird was the Robin.
I get such a kick out of the Killdeers when they run - so funny.
They are like little roadrunners.

The sun was shining with a few clouds around when I got back home
and it stayed like that till suppertime when it rained.

Walked 6 miles
Found a penny

🌀    πŸ™‚    πŸ’°

Morning chores done I was going to fry up some chicken breasts
for supper and thought I get it done ahead of time.
Then went on line to see if I could find the Burger King spicy chicken recipe.
Found a recipe that sounded good, easy and it is baked in the oven.
Ken was out in the morning and when he came home lunch time the
chicken smelled so good we didn't wait for supper time but had it for lunch.
We put the chicken on Kaiser rolls, with mayonnaise, lettuce, and a slice of tomato.
It was just as good or better than BK or Wendy's.

Annie's Kitchen Country Restaurant in town opened in 1998.
Sad to say they have now closed.
Nothing fancy but they had good plain food and they will be missed.

Here's a couple of pictures taken a few years ago.

That's me sitting in the BIG chair.

The Rolling Pin Bakery and Deli that is in a small building right at the beginning of town

is doing so well that they need a bigger place and will be moving into
the space where Annie's was.
Now they will be able to have tables inside at the new place
and I'm sure they will do great there.
Wonder what will happen to the old Rolling Pin Building.

This afternoon did a little more knitting.

Thanks for stopping by.
A happy day to you.

Wednesday

A steady light drizzle this morning as I walked along in my rain pants and yellow slicker.  I didn't mind walking in the rain though because it wasn't cold at 48 degrees.
First light - 6:45
Sunrise - 7:12

Pretty dark when I first started walking so I stay on the main road where there are street lights.

Walked all over town, the ball park, and both cemeteries.

The fire siren at the fire house blasted out 5 long blasts and a
minute later the fire truck left.
You can just see the red lights form the truck down at the end of the road.

Went down to say good morning to the bulls and took a picture of the farm pond.

I stopped to watch a Robin take a bath in a rain puddle.
He was taking a shower and a bath at the same time.
Robins seem to really enjoy a bath!!
Stopped too far away to take a picture - he would have flown
away if I got any closer.

No one else out walking on this rainy morning.

🌧    πŸ™‚    ☔️

We drove to town this morning and picked up a DVD at the library.
We have started watching Wings. We started watching the series because one of the actors in Wings is Tony Shalhoub (MONK) who plays Antonio the cab driver.
He doesn't appear until Season 3 episode 2 and we just picked up season 3.
He was in one episode in Season 2 but he played a waiter.

Also did a few other errands in town.

Though the day started out rainy by lunch time the rain stopped
and the sun came out.

Didn't do all that much, just puttered about the house and walked around
Happy Trails a little.

A happy day to you.

A sign of spring

Temperature up to 38 degrees this morning, calm and once again sunny
once the sun peeked over the mountain.
First light - 6:47
Sunrise - 7:14

Walked to the library to drop off a DVD and then through town over to the
Dollar General, then continued around the industrial park.

Back through town, around the ball park where I saw Rebecca
walking her dog Leo.
Only one fisherman at the pond this morning.
Used up my 6 miles so didn't get to walk around the other
cemetery or see the bulls today.

Look what I spotted in a yard, some early daffodils.
These are the only ones around but sure nice to see.

Got everything put away and did my usual morning chores.

After lunch I went up to the cabin with Ken to work

David and Liz at work again today so he couldn't help.
I walked back to the house at 3:30.

Looking forward to a bit of reading and knitting this evening.

Vee - No, don't watch any vlogs - just no extra time for that.
Vee and Granny M - About the bulls.  Farmer Marvin breeds and raises the farm bulls and also beef cattle.  When the farm bulls are ready to sell he moves them over by the barn where I visit them.  He has a few pastures around here and often moves his cattle around.  Farmer Marvin also grows corn and soy beans.

The Glove

A pleasant walk in the sun this morning once it came over the mountain.
It was 32 degrees and calm.

Started my walk going straight through town and over to the
Dollar General where I turned around and walked back through town.
Made my usual loops around the ball park and both cemeteries.

Farmer Marvin moved some more bulls down by the barn and I
counted 22 of them today.

The only people I saw were three people by the town pond fishing,

Some of you may remember that I found gloves while walking along
and put them on posts along the main road a while back.
Can't remember how many there were but it was over a dozen.
One day someone came and took them all down.
Well today I found a glove and put it on a post.
Will see how many I put there before they are gone again.

Started on my weekly chores around the house in the morning,
while Ken went up to the cabin to work on the shower room.
His helper had to work today so he was on his own in the morning.

After lunch I went with Ken for two loads of gravel to put up by the cabin.

When I was home again I did some more knitting on the blanket.
I had to start over because my needle came apart and I wasn't able to
get the stitches back.
The needles I'm using come apart and screw into different lengths
of plastic to make different size circular needles.
Now after each row I check to make sure it isn't coming apart.

That's all for today.

Another walk all over town, the ball park and both cemeteries.

Sure was nice to see the sun come up over the mountain
and then things warmed up.
Just walking up here from visiting the bulls.

Leaving the cemetery on top of the hill just a few minutes later.
Nice and sunny walking down the hill.
My very long shadow.

A touch of spring

 28 degrees this morning.
A calm morning and once the sun rose I had a sunny walk.

My usual walk around town, the ball park and both cemeteries.

Went to visit the bulls and just 6 of them left.
The others have been sold to other farms.
Was told a couple of them went to Kentucky.

A couple of geese flying from the town pond to the farm pond.

No people out walking again but there were 4 people fishing at the pond.
Seemed like a cold morning for standing around fishing!

Look what I spotted - don't know what they are but spring is on the way.
(Thanks to Tom the little yellow flowers are Winter Aconites)

Put a roast in the slow cooker with potatoes and carrots
first thing after breakfast so didn't have to think about

The day was sunny but a bit of a wind kicked up and it stayed in the 30's.

Had a few errands to do.
We took our trash to the dump, returned a book to the library,
stopped at the Post Office to mail a letter, and went to
G & W Lumber.

I'm just about done with the round dish cloth I've been knitting.

Thursday

Enjoyed our game last night playing UNO with David and Liz.
We played 6 games.
Liz gave me this cute mug.
She said it looked like a happy mug with all the daisies and
she thought of me.
Isn't she nice!!

Rainy when I woke up this morning and it was 35 degrees.
Don't mind walking in the rain but don't enjoy a COLD rain.
My raincoat is not big enough for me to wear layers underneath.
So I walked a couple of miles inside.

We went to Shop and Save right after breakfast.
After getting home and putting away the groceries it looked like
the rain had stopped and it was up in the 40's so decided to go to town
and walk the other 4 miles.

I got drizzled on a bit and then the sun almost came out, then clouded
up again and started raining when I got back home.

I happened to be walking around at 12:00 and that is when the church
bells play hymns - so nice to hear.

Walked around both cemeteries and the ball park.

There were 4 people fishing, but didn't see anyone else out walking.

Walked a total of 6 miles

Did a little more knitting and reading this afternoon.

This is going to be the last picture of the snow pile.
Don't think there will be anything left come morning.

Dark and Foggy

31 degrees, calm, and foggy as I walked around town this morning.

Walked straight through town and over to the industrial park
and walked around there.

No people out and about walking in the fog but did see 3 rabbits and a ground hog.

Continued my walk around the ball park, and the two cemeteries.

Fishing season must have opened because I counted 10 people fishing around the town pond. The pond is stocked but don't know with what kind of fish.

Walked around the lower cemetery last and by that time the sun
was trying to break through the fog.

Walked 6 miles

Fog cleared and we had a beautiful sunny day.

I got some more work done in the house in the morning.
Ken and David came to the house for lunch and then went back to work.

Knitted some more on the round wash cloth and so far haven't
had any trouble and it is going along smoothly.
It's a fun project.

I made Brownies and then went for a walk around Happy Trails
and ended up at the cabin.

David and Liz coming over later this evening for another game night.
Think we are playing UNO this time.

Tuesday

30 degrees and cloudy during this mornings walk with a slight breeze.

Walked around both cemeteries, the ball park, and all over town.
Rebecca was out walking with her dog Leo and I saw them
three different times during our walk.

Walked down to say hi to the bulls and on the way down to them
Farmer Marvin came by in his truck and stopped to say hi.
He told me all but 6 bulls have been sold so soon most of them will
have moved on to new farms.  All the bulls are raised here on the farm.
Farmer Marvin is Rebecca's uncle.

Took this picture from the cemetery on the hill.
That is the Drane house and to the right behind the pine trees
is the barn where the bulls are.
If you expand the picture and look closely you
may be able to see the barn through the trees and the bulls
underneath the trees.

I put Italian hot pork sausages in the slow cooker this morning

Stayed inside this afternoon.
Gave the deadfall picking up a break.
Did some reading and knitted too.

In the Dark

Now with the time change I'm back to starting my walk in the dark.
But that won't last long and soon it will be light again.

A chilly start to the day and my walk at 18 degrees.
It was still and once the sun rose it was sunny.
Sunrise - 7:26

No one else out walking.
Walked all around town, up to both cemeteries, and down to see the bulls.
Didn't make it around the ball park because I used up my 6 miles
before I got there.

Walked just a tad over 6 miles

While walking was thinking that I haven't found a coin in a while.
Then the next street over there was a penny sitting in the middle of the street.

☀️    🚢‍♀️    πŸ˜€    πŸ’°

After breakfast I went with Ken to get a load of gravel in the trailer.
The second load I stayed home to get some house stuff done and he
went with David for a second load.  Gravel is for the project that
Ken and David are doing up at the cabin.

Got house work done in the morning and then in the afternoon
I went out back to continue on the picking up of deadfall.
Making a fence along the one side of our property line now.
It was sunny and the temperature was 40 degrees so warmed up
quite a bit from this morning.
