Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Rag Curtain

When I left the house this morning it was 38 degrees and a bit foggy.
Felt warm after those cold blistery days.
Walked down to the main road
and up the road to town.
Walked through town to the old house (still not sold) and then
walked back home.

Pretty quiet around town.
Saw the usual people who wave to me when I walk.
On the way out of town a light drizzle started and lasted for
the rest of my walk.
At least it wasn't icy and I got to have my walk outside.
🎄     🎄     🎄
Yesterday morning we made our driveway passable and then
went to church for Fingerprint day working on assembling
the book of Roman's in Spanish.
We worked from 9 - 3.
We got 3479 assembled, stapled, cut, and ready to ship
which is quite a lot for the day considering we only had a dozen
of us throughout the day working.
🎄     🎄     🎄
Today was the day that the Welsh Cookies I baked got dropped off
down in town at the town hall for the cookie sale
at the Drane house tomorrow.
The sale is from 9 - 2 but the cookies are usually gone by noon.
These are the cookies that have been dropped off so far
and many more were dropped off later.
My Welsh cookies are on the bottom right.
This afternoon I made Rag Curtains for the bathroom window.
Very easy and quick to do with no sewing involved.
Had some old curtains and cut off the hem and curtain rod pocket.
Then put small cuts in the material
and ripped.
Then just put them over the curtain rod and tied a half knot.
I'm going to make another one for the bedroom closet window and maybe
in the bedroom too.

It's been a foggy drizzly day again but having a good day
around home.

Hope your day has been a good one.

Gave it a try

Started walking loops in the basement again waiting for it
to get light.
Then as I was putting on my walking clothes for going outside
Ken said to me,
"You aren't going out walking in this are you!?"
I told him I was going to give it a try.
It was 16 degrees, snow was coming down and it was VERY windy.
Well I made it as far as the end of the driveway.
The snow was whipping me in the face and the snow was too
deep in the road for walking in my snow sneakers.
So I took this picture at the end of the driveway,
turned around and went back inside.
Ken was standing at the front window watching me.  😊
Finished my steps in the basement.

Stayed inside today and didn't do much of anything.
Read, knitted, and spent a lot of time looking out of the windows
at the wintry day.  Put a few more pieces in the puzzle.

At 3:30 it wasn't a snow plow that came by but one of those big
yellow road graders came up the road clearing the snow.
After that left I walked down to the end of the driveway which was pretty
deep in places because of the drifting.
The road grader left a nice big pile of snow blocking the driveway.
We didn't get outside to clear it because it was still snowing
and very windy.

For supper I made Manicotti.

We decided to stay home this evening and not go to church.

Hopefully tomorrow we can get out because it is
Fingerprint day at church and we have much work to do.

Hope your day was a happy one.

New flavor ice cream

Just got a little bit of snow and it's been snowing on and off all day
but not much accumulation.
It was 22 degrees and windy with a few flurries when I walked
this morning.  A good day for that warm coat of mine.
It worked, I was toasty warm.

Walked out to the main road and back again.
Saw 4 deer in the woods and another ran across the road
in front of me.  A nice 6 point buck.

Coming back up the hill the snow plow came by.  I was by a driveway
so just ducked in there while the plow passed.
The plow came back again and this time I just stood off to the side.
He gave me a wave and probably though what is this crazy lady
doing out here walking!!

Walked up the lane and back down before going back home.
🌨     🌨     🌨
After breakfast we drove down to LaVale to do a bit of
shopping at Walmart.  We are trying to go each week so we
don't have to get so much at one time.

Picked up a another set of measuring cups and measuring spoons.
I like them because they were so colorful.
After lunch I used them when I baked another and final
batch of the Welsh cookies for the sale on Saturday at the Drane house.

Started another book this afternoon,
Cape Light by Thomas Kinkade and Katherine Spencer.
I didn't realize he wrote a book series, just knew about his paintings.
So far I like the book.

Tried a new flavor of ice cream last night and thought it was very good.
Hagan brand Chocolate Churro.
Dark chocolate ice cream with a cinnamon crumble swirl.
It is even reduced fat.
I'll be having that again this evening.

Still knitting those slippers.
Working on the second pair.

That's it for today.
Hope your day was a happy one.

Slow progress on the puzzle

When I got up this morning it was raining and dark.
Was going to wait until light to walk but got tired of waiting
so did loops in the basement.
It continued to rain during the morning.
Time for an oil change in the truck so Ken dropped it in for service
and I followed in the car.
Mid morning it looked like it was clearing up
and for a brief moment I saw blue sky.
but that didn't last long and soon it was raining again.

A day around the house puttering about.
Straightened up the pantry and rearranged some items.

Had cuttings from my philodendron plant that were sitting in water
which had gotten some pretty big roots.
Planted them in dirt in a pot and then cut some more shoots from
the original plant and put them in water.

Worked a couple of hours on the train jigsaw puzzle sitting out on the
dining room table.  This one is a bit of a challenge but we are making
some slow progress on it.

Went out to Brenda's for pizza night and just before we left
it started snowing.  Not supposed to get any accumulation but
will have to see what the morning brings.

Hope your day was a good one and you smiled often.

Sunday

Understanding is the reward of faith.
Therefore seek not to understand that you many believe,
but believe that you may understand.

Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it:
but the instruction of fools is folly.

Dreary Weather

A cold freezing rain kept me from walking outside this morning
so did loops down in the basement.
Took the picture on my front porch.
On rainy days I either like to do house work or I get lazy
and just read.
Today I did both.
In the morning I got some work done around the house.

The temperature hovered around 33 during the day so the ice
started melting and then it was a drizzly rain on and off all day.

Walked down the end of the driveway to the mail box to pick up the mail
and that was the only time I was outside.
While out I took a picture of the neighbors barn.
You can kind of see a few cows in there.
In the afternoon I finished the book I was reading and started another.
The book I finished was Blueberry Muffin Murder by Joanne Fluke.
In her books are some really good cookie and muffin recipes.
I copied a few of them from this book and will be trying
them one of these days.
I'm sure they will show up on my blog.

Got some knitting done this afternoon too.

A pretty dreary day but a good one all the same.
Nice to be warm and cozy in our house in the woods.
Hope you enjoyed your day.

Morninig Moon

18 degrees this morning when I headed out the door for my walk
at 7:00.  First thing I saw was the moon from the top of my driveway.
Walked to town, around one of the cemeteries and through town
and back home again.
Over by the town pond the sun was just popping over the mountain.
No people out again but did see a few deer and a hopping rabbit.
Nice to see a bright blue sky and the sun shining on the way back home.
🦌     🐇     🦌
This morning made another batch of Welsh Cookies for the
sale at the Drane house on Dec 1.  One more batch to go and I'll be done.

We went to the library and I picked up the book for the book club
meeting next month.  Connie had put aside a large print edition for
me.  Don't need the large print but sure is easy on the eyes.
Checked out 3 other books while I was there.

Did some reading this afternoon.

I sat on the nice big step in my craft closet/room
and made a few weave-it squares.
Ken came up from the basement and couldn't find me at first.
Then I heard him say. "Are you in the closet?"
Struck me funny.

We got Foyles War from Netflix in the mail today and will
watch the first episode this evening.
Watched it a long time ago and liked it but don't remember much about it.

We are still watching Midsomer Mysteries and have a couple of seasons to go yet.
I still like it with John Barnaby but
liked it better with Tom Barnaby and Joyce.

That's it for today.
Hope you had a good day and smiled often.

Another day to be thankful

I have a very warm coat from LL Bean that I wear on days when it dips
below 20 degrees. I can't wear it above 20 degrees
because I get too warm.
Today was one of those days for my very warm coat.
It was 19 degrees and cloudy at 6:50 when I left on my walk.
I had on a long sleeve tee-shirt and a hooded sweatshirt under the coat.
It kept me toasty warm and in walking up the last steep hill to home
I was actually sweating.

Walked to town and as expected didn't see anyone at all
and only a handful of cars passed by.

Walked around the lower graveyard and a little way in to town.
Spotted these sad looking shriveling  pumpkins.
It was just Ken and I here at the house for Thanksgiving but
we had a very nice day at home.
We had turkey and all the trimming and we had our dinner
2:00 this afternoon.
Too full yet for a piece of that pie but look forward to
having a piece a bit later.

I've been doing some reading and knitting this afternoon.

Happy Thanksgiving

I thank God for each and every day.  For the big things but all the every day little things too.  Here's just a quick list of 25 though there are many many more I could add.

  1. Always at the top of every thankful list is My Salvation.  So thankful that Jesus died for a sinner like me and assures me that I have a home in heaven. WOW what a gift!!
  2. Kenny my husband and best friend
  3. Our son David and though our daughter won't speak to us, I'm thankful for the happy memories I have.
  4. Our new house in the woods.
  5. For Ronnie for building our house
  6. Pastor Leatherman, not just a preacher but a true pastor and a man who practices what he preaches.
  7. Sunshine and yes rain and snow too.  (ice I could do without)
  8. A warm coat
  9. My church and church family
  10. Good friends
  11. Ice Cream
  12. Morning Walks
  13. Books
  14. Good Health
  15. Happy Trails
  16. Indoor plumbing
  17. Living in Garrett County
  18. A front porch
  19. The Mexican Train Gang 😊
  20.  Finding pennies
  21. Smiles that people share with me
  22. Blogger friends
  23. My swing
  24. Libraries
  25.  The views out of all the windows in my house

Enjoy your day and be thankful for it.

A good looking pumpkin pie 😊

Left the house on my walk this morning at 7:00.
It was VERY windy and 28 degrees, and mostly cloudy but
did see some blue sky every now and then.
I was nice and warm in all my 5 layers of clothes!!
Walked out to the main road and then up to town.
Sidewalks still not cleared in town so walked around the cemeteries
and then back home.

When the snow plows go through town all the snow gets thrown
up on the sidewalks and it takes a while for the snow to melt.
Only a couple of people shovel their sidewalks.

No one else out walking and didn't see any deer this morning either.
The deer may be in hiding because of the hunters.
I did hear a few gun shots.
I have nothing against hunters but just can't imagine shooting a deer.
I tell all the deer I see to run up to Happy Trails for sanctuary.
🦌     🦌     🦌
Did the usual morning house chores.
Got pork chops started in the slow cooker mid morning so that
took care of supper.

Made a Pumpkin Pie this afternoon.
Before I started I told Ken that it would probably turn out
perfect because it was just for the two of us.
Well, I was right.
It is the nicest looking pumpkin pie I think I've ever made!!
Hope it tastes as good as it looks.
I have quartz counter tops and though I like them, I like the Corian better.
BUT the quarts is great to roll dough out on, so I've changed
my mind about the quartz.

We've been home today just enjoying puttering around the house.

We have so much to be thankful and our new home is up near the top.

A happy day to you.

In the craft closet/room

By 6:45 it was light enough outside for me to get out there and walk.
It was 34 degrees and mostly cloudy but did see a few glimpses of the sun.
Very calm, no wind at all which made it seem a lot warmer than 34.
Walked out to the main road and up to town.
Didn't walk through town though because the sidewalks aren't clear.
Walked up to the cemeteries and then home again.

Saw the usual deer running around but no people,
just the wavers in cars, trucks, and buses.
🦌     🦌     🦌
Made pancakes for breakfast and before I cleaned up the kitchen
What I like about this recipe is that it not only is delicious
but it makes three loaves.
Taking one to church tomorrow.
Every year on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving our church has a
Pie and Praise night.
(there are pies but other desserts too)
We meet in the fellowship hall and have a fun time thanking God
for our many blessings during this year.

I have a tall narrow dresser and took out the little bit of clothes I had
in it and added the clothes to my other dresser.
Then moved the narrow dresser to the closet in the office.
In the drawers now I have counted cross stitch projects and all that
goes along with that.
There's also coloring books, crayons and pencils and some
odd and ends.
Looking in from the dresser
Took this picture from the top step.
The steps are big enough to fit 2 large totes on them and there are three steps.
The bottom step has nothing on it and is big enough for me to sit there.
I love this closet and call it my 'craft room.'

Did a little reading.
The book I'm reading is called No Brakes by Ellen Ann Callahan.
I'm liking it so far.
The author lives up here in Deep Creek which is 10 miles from where I live.
This is her first book and she has another one out too which I will be reading.

We made it to Brenda's tonight for half price pizza.
Missed two weeks in a row.
We are getting to know quite a few people who go every Monday
and it's nice to see them and have a little chat.
Not only do I have walking friends, we now have pizza friends.  😊

Hope your day was a happy one.

Chalk Drawings

I had mentioned last week that Don Williams preached at our church
all last week and did chalk drawings each evening.
There were 6 drawings in all and I took pictures of them this morning
at church but only two of them came out.
They happened to be my two favorites ones.
The part that is in the middle has a hidden Biblical picture that
is revealed when a black light is shown on it.

A hymn for this Sunday

Thank You, Lord
~ Seth and Bessie Sykes

Some thank the Lord for friends and home.
For mercies sure and sweet.
But I would praise Him for His grace
In prayer I would repeat.

Some thank Him for the flowers that grow,
Some for the stars that shine;
My heart is filled with joy and praise
Because I know He's mine.

I trust in Him from day to day,
I prove His saving grace;
I'll sing this song of praise to Him
Until I see His face.

Refrain
Thank you Lord, for saving my soul,
Thank you Lord, for making me whole.
Thank you Lord, for giving to me,
Thy great salvation so rich and free.

I Thessalonians 5:18
In everything give thanks,
For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

A blessed Sunday to you.

Outside, lunch, and Mexican Train

24 degrees this morning under cloudy skies
and I did get to walk outside.  😊
Walked up the lane and back a couple of times.
Our neighbors Ron and Teresa live up at the top of the lane and they
have a wonderful view looking into town.
I bet they get some fantastic sunsets to watch sitting on their porch.
Didn't try walking to town because the sidewalks aren't shoveled anyway
so just walked around near home.
Didn't see anyone at all, not even any cars.
No animals either but saw plenty of their tracks.
☁️     ☁️     ☁️
We met some of our friends at a restaurant an hour away
in Kingswood, WV called Monroe's for lunch.
Bit of a drive just for lunch but it was one of the couples favorite places.
The food was very good and reasonably priced.

From there we went over to one Ron and Debbie's house for an afternoon
game of Mexican Train.
Our afternoon of fun stretched into the evening.

I was asked to bring a dessert and made a new recipe.
Chocolate Eclair Cake, which I got off a blog.
Sorry I forgot which one.
If it was yours please let me know and I'll mention where I got it.

It was delicious and they all wanted me to let you know they
all thought it was delicious.

That's it for today.
Hope your day was a happy one.

Interesting pattern

The snow stopped mid morning.
Did think about walking but figured I'd be in the way of the
snow plows.  Then there was that coat of ice to consider under the snow
so did laps inside this morning.

I count this as the first snow of the season.
Those few dustings didn't count.
So it was time to bring out the first jigsaw puzzle.
This is the one that Tricia gave us last month.
This is going to be a challenge but we are up to it.
Got all the pieces set out and the edges picked out.
Sorry for the blurry picture.
Started right in with the next baby blanket.
This one will sure be a colorful one.
All these different colors and patterns are coming from that
one ball of yarn.  I'm going to put them together in the order that
they are made.  Will be interesting to see how it turns out.
Got our winter weather clothes on and went outside for a while in the afternoon.
It never made it out of the 20's.

Had to pick up a few things at the store so we hopped in the car
and went to the Shop and Save.

All week at church Don Williams has been speaking and doing
his chalk drawings.  He is 85 years old and still traveling around preaching
and doing his drawings.
Tonight was the last night at our church.
There are 6 drawings and they were given away tonight to the people
who brought the most visitors.
I didn't take any pictures but they will be hanging at church
through Sunday evening.  I'll try to take some pictures.

I'm off to do some reading before going to bed.
Pretty sure I'll be going for my walking walk
outside in the morning.

Hope your day was a happy one.

A bit of ice and snow

Never got to blog yesterday.
We left at 7:45 in the morning for a trip down to
Staunton, Virginia.
Went to church and hooked up the church trailer loaded with the Roman's
books we have assembled and dropped them off down in Staunton.
Picked up another pallet for us all to assemble over the next few months
and brought them to church.
It is a 3 hour (one way) drive so we make a nice day out of it.
We have lunch and then walk around a HUGE antique warehouse type
of place before heading back.
Not much time to go home and then come back for the
evening service so we stayed in the area and had supper
and then just went to church.

Over night the freezing rain started and by morning this
that looks like snow is actually frozen ice/snow and very slippery.
I walked out on it and turned around and came right back in side.
It was a day to get my steps walking inside.

Baby blanket day at church was cancelled because of the ice.
This is the latest baby blanket that I would have turned in.
Last post I had mentioned that my grandfather made a weave-it loom
for my gramma that she gave to me.
I used the loom for years and then Ken and I were looking around
in a antique shop about 10 years ago and Ken spotted two weave-it looms
for sale so we bought both of them.
A blue one and a yellow one which are plastic.
The wooden one on the right below is the one my grandfather made.
What patience that must have taken.
He nailed all those little nails in the wood and then took all
heads of the nails off.
The freezing rain and snow turned into just snow in the afternoon
and I went outside for a little bit.
The snow is supposed to stop during the night.

I cleaned out the closet in the office where I keep my
yarn, needlework projects, and other craft type things.
Now it is all neat and organized.

That's it for today.
 Time for supper.
A happy day to you.

Gramma's Weave-it's

Temperature hovered right at freezing this morning and it was
very foggy.  Some ice around so decided to skip walking outside.
Got my steps done inside.

Every year there is a cookie sale down at the Drane house
and I was asked again if I would make Welsh Cookies for the sale.
Of course I said yes and made the first two dozen today.
Have to bake 5 dozen in all and bring them to the town hall
November 30 for the sale the next day.
LOTS of people bake cookies for this event.
They cookies sell out real fast and you need to get there early
or you will be out of luck.
The money from the sale goes to the Drane house for its up keep.

I talk about making weave-it squares quite often and it all started
with my Gramma.  When I was a little girl I would watch her make
these little squares and then sew them together.
I can't even tell you how many she made for people over the years.
Many years ago when I was a little girl my Gramma made one for me.
This is the one she gave me.
There are 303 squares in it.
Sometimes she made different patterns in the squares.
This is the hourglass pattern.
Not only did she give me the afghan for my very own but then
gave me a loom that my grandfather made and taught me how to make them.
I've been making them ever since.
I think gramma would be happy to know that I'm still making
squares and that all those baby blankets I've made are keeping
babies warm.

It's been a cold, dreary, foggy, drizzle day and it's been nice to just
stay in side.

Hope your day was a good one and maybe where you live
you got to see the sun.

happyone  😊

Out to Uniontown

Left the house at 6:50 and it was 32 degrees, cloudy but with no wind.
Walked to town passing by  Farmer Marvin's cows.
This one was away from the others going down to the little
stream to get a drink.
Stopped at the library to drop a book down the book drop.
The library doesn't open till 11 but Connie and Lisa, the Liberians
were getting there early and just going in the door.
We had a little chat before I handed Connie the book and
continued on my way.

Passed by the day care center and Milo the cat was out across the street.
Every time I went to take his picture he turned his head away.
Then I headed back home.
We drove over to Uniontown, Pa and spent a good part of the day there.
Walked around a few different stores.
At Michael's I picked up some short sleeve tee-shirts as mine were
getting a bit ratty.  They were on sale, 3 for $10, so I got 6 of them.
At Hobby Lobby I got a couple of long sleeve ones.
The yarn was marked down 30% so picked up a few skeins for
baby blankets.
While we were there we stopped at Olive Garden for lunch
and had the all you can eat soup and salad.
I can only eat one bowl of soup before I get full along
with two helpings of the salad and of course one of their delicious
bread sticks.

Once we were back home I went through my old tee shirts and threw
some away and others I cut into squares for dust clothes.

Got a little reading done and made a few weave-it squares.

No pizza at Brenda's tonight for supper because we already had
lunch out but we did enjoy our home made pizza at home.

Never did see the sun today and a drizzly freezing rain started a
little while ago.
Hoping I get to walk outside in the morning.

It's been a good day and
hope yours was too.
