Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Rainy Walk

49 degrees when I started out walking this morning.
At first it was cloudy, then after a mile down came the rain.
Not heavy but a steady rain.
Didn't see any sun but it rose behind the clouds at 7:45.
Walked 5.6 miles

Walked the main road, up and down some side roads,
then the ball park loop and both cemeteries.

Didn't see anyone else out walking.

Looks like the lot across the street from the lower cemetery has been sold.
The For Sale sign is gone
and a mailbox has been put up.
Some mums, pumpkins, and solar lights are around too.
I picture one of those Tiny House there.

I noticed behind the bank where they are still working on the
drive thru that some little trusses have been delivered.
Hopefully now they will build the actual drive thru building.

☁️    🥾    🌧    🙂

A rainy day seemed to be a good day to get started on the
baking for the Drane house bake sale.
I made 7 little Pumpkin Breads.
They freeze great so they will be fine in the freezer till the sale.
Giving the bake sale 6 and saving the 7th one for us.
You can find the recipe HERE.

The November Baby Blanket is completed.
A nice colorful one.
If you'd like, you can see it

I'm not going to make any more squares till the next Baby Blanket
work day at church.
Till then I'll be working on a knitted ripple afghan for myself.
Will come in handy on cold winter evenings.
Plan on making two - one for me and one for Ken.
I've gotten started already with the first one.

That's been my day.
Thanks for stopping by.

Skies and a parable

 Happy Sunday

Some morning skies

Didn't get a picture but this morning on my walk I saw
a rare sighting of a heron at the town pond.

📖    📖    📖

A Parable

Luke 12:16-21

And He spake a parable unto them, saying,
The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:

And he thought within himself, saying,
What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

And he said, This will I do:
I will pull down my barns, and build greater;
and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

And I will say to my soul,
Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years;
take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

 But God said unto him,
Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee:
then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

A Blessed Sunday to all.

Corn Maze

41 degrees and cloudy when walking this morning.
Sunrise 7:43
Walked 6 miles

Walked through town and down the main road to the curve
in the road where I turned around and went back.
Turned in at the industrial park and walked around there.
Saw a deer run across the road.
Back through town and on some of the side streets and around
the ball park loop and then it was back to the Jeep.

Saw one man walking who I've never saw before.

Didn't take any walking pictures today but these two are from yesterday.

Those trusses are STILL sitting there with the weeds.
I think they were delivered there in May.

The Drane house garden as been all tidied up for winter.

☁️    🙂    🥾

After lunch David and Liz went with us to the corn maze
up the road just outside of town.
They make one every year.
It was cloudy all morning but by afternoon the clouds
were gone and it was a sunny day and perfect for walking the maze.
We all had a great time and walked just over 2 miles.
After the maze we sat at a table and had hot apple cider.

A great way to spend a fall afternoon.

Thanks for popping in for a visit.
Happy Saturday to you.

Debby and Anni - Our property once was part of the farm next to us.  Years and years ago they divided up the land and sold it.  It sat for more years.  Then it was for sale for quite a few years before we came along and bought the first 8 acres.  Later we bought another 8 acre lot and lastly a 5 acre lot. There are remnants of a fence and barbed wire in places that we've come across.  Parts of the land was a pasture but after so many years it turned into a forest.

Vee - The tree we took down was dead for a year so the wood is good for firewood now.

MsBB - We have a gas fireplace at this house.  You remember correctly, the house in town where we lived before here did have a pellet stove.

Cutting down the tree

Got to town a little bit later than usual and started walking at 7:20.
Just wanted to walk in the light instead of the dark for a change.
It was 33 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds.
Sunrise 7:42
Walked 6 miles

On the way to town I saw 14 deer.
4 together, then a group of 5, and another group of 5.
All within less than a mile from my house.

Walked around the lower cemetery and then over to the ball
park and around there.
Back to the cemetery on the hill.
Went to see the bulls again and they were happy to see me.
I put my hands through the fence and a few gave me a sniff.

Took the picture of the barn where the bulls are from behind the Drane house.

Next I walked to the main street through town and up and down
the side roads.

The new roof on the library is now finished.

Lisa and Dwayne were out walking again.
They left a little later than usual too so as to not walk in the dark.

It was a beautiful morning for a walk.

🌤    🥾    🐮

There was a smallish dead tree at the top of the driveway
that needed to come down so we did that today.

Ken cut it with the chain saw and it got caught on some trees.

He pulled it down and over with the tractor.

Then we cut cut the branches off and I dragged them on to the
natural fence that I'm always making.

The trunk was cut up into logs for firewood.

We had good working outside weather and enjoyed the time outside.

Read a while when we came in till it was supper time.
Friday so it was pizza day.

Thanks for dropping in.
Happy Friday

Ginny - The puzzle is turned over by taking a corner in each hand, lifting it up and turn it over.  Very rarely does it come apart.

Deb - No, we don't glue the puzzles and save them.  They get taken apart and done over again another time.  We have LOTS of puzzles.  Once in a while we go through them and the ones we don't want to do any more we give away.
BTW - I'm liking the book The Bitterroots by C J Box!!

Puzzle Finished

38 degrees this morning with a misty drizzle when
I left the house for my walk.
The mist ended in a couple of miles.
I took off the wet hoodie and the one underneath was still dry.
Didn't see the sun rise but it was up there
 behind the clouds at 7:40
Walked 5.8 miles

Walked around town and when the mist ended went back to
the Jeep, dropped off my wet hoodie and picked up a library
book and then over to the library to drop it down the book drop.

Lisa was out walking and we stopped and talked again.

Continued walking over to the ball park and walked around there.
Then both of the cemeteries.

I spotted a skunk walking in the yard of the house were we used to live.
Took a picture but it came out one big blur,
but didn't want to take a chance of getting too close.

🌧    🥾    ☁️    🙂

We finished the puzzle last evening.

We usually turn the puzzle over when done and write on the back.
This is what Ken wrote on this one.

Ended up being a nice sunny day though it stayed on the cool side.
I got some more work done around the house.
Then read and made some more weave-its.
Should be done in two more days with the blanket.

Thanks for stopping by.
Happy Thursday

Ginny - Yes, Ken does the puzzles too.  Most of the puzzles we do are 1000 pieces.

MsBB - Ken eats his on a sub roll.  I like to eat mine in a bowl with a roll on the side.

First puzzle of the season

51 degrees and cloudy when I left the house
but rain was on the way.

Walked through town and over to the Dollar General,
turned around and then walked up and down some streets.

Saw Lisa and Dwayne walking in town and we commented on
how dark it was.
Seemed like we should be saying good night instead of good morning.

Met them again at the cemetery on the hill.
I was walking down the hill and they were walking up and
that is when it started to rain.
I had walked 3.5 miles when the rain came.
Kept on walking and walked around the lower cemetery a few times
and got pretty wet so that ended my walk.

The sky was this pink color toward the east
but dark behind me.

Sunrise 7:39
Walked 5 miles
Found a Penny

☁️    💰    🌧   🙂

We got a crock pot of hot sausage, peppers and onions,
and tomato sauce going this morning for supper.

Got some house chores out of the way
and then I finished reading my book
and worked on the puzzle.

That pretty much was my day.

Thank you for stopping by.
Happy Wednesday

Tuesday

47 degrees this morning and clear.
Just a little fog on the way to town and sunny at the end
of my walk once the sun rose at 7:38.
Walked 5.8 miles

Walked around town and then over to the Dollar General
where I turned around.
Rumor has it the the Dollar General is expanding and will
have some produce in it too.
The DG is at one end and the hardware store at the other end
with an empty store in the middle.  I'm thinking that they may
take over that empty place.
Will have to wait and see what happens.

Next I walked around the ball park and then both of the cemeteries.

The bulls are down at the end of this road.
They made me laugh today.
As I was walking down the road they all started walking over to the gate.
By the time I got there others were running out of the barn.
Some were pushing others out of the way.
I told them no pushing was allowed.
I talked to them for a while and when I left some started mooing.
I'd like to think they were saying
See you tomorrow.  🙂

Lisa was out walking and I asked her if she'd like to bake some
cookies for the Drane house bake sale.
(Pam had asked me if I knew of anyone who would help bake)
She said yes and would make some gluten free cookies.

Saw Rebecca walking too and was going to ask her but she
was talking on her phone.

Another great morning to be out walking watching a new day start.

☀️    🥾    🐄    😊

We went food shopping at Casselmans this morning in Grantsville.
We shared the parking lot with a horse and buggy.
The shoppers were two senior Amish women.

The horse and buggy, shopping cart, and the car driving by in the background
I thought made for a good picture.

Did some general house chores,
worked on the puzzle some and made a few more weave-it squares.
Yesterday I said there was going to be 15 different colors in this one.
These are the colors I'm using.

That's it for today.
Thanks for stopping by.

Bake Sale

41 degrees this morning when I left on my walk.
A clear sky with many stars here at the house but half
way down to town it was foggy and stayed foggy for all of my walk.
Walked 6 miles

Walked all around town up and down all the streets.

Then around the ball park and both cemeteries.
Walking between the corn up to the cemetery.
(guess any time now the corn will be cut down)

Lisa was out walking and we stopped for a chat between cemeteries.

My walk was just ending when the sun made its appearance to
burn off the fog.

Another great morning for a walk.

🌫    ☀️    🥾    😊

Ended up being another beautiful sunny day.
Got the sheets washed and hung on the line and did
my usual morning chores.

🍪    🍞    🍪

A woman, Pam who I thought I didn't know called me and asked
if I would be willing to do some baking for the annual Drane house bake sale.
(it wasn't held for a few years because of covid)
I told her I'd love to.

It used to be just cookies but now it will be breads and other baked
goods as well as cookies.
I'll be baking 5 dozen Welsh Cookies
5 dozen Chocolate Chip Cookies
and 7 small pumpkin breads.
The sale is December 3.

The sale used to be held in the Drane house but now
will be held in town at the town hall.
The proceeds from the sale go into maintaining the Drane house.
Pam told me I could drop the baked goodies off at the
town hall the Friday before the sale at 8:00AM.
I said that was perfect because I walked every morning and
would drop them off then.
She then asked if I was the one who walked by in the
bright orange or green hoodie, I told her yes.
It was then we realized we knew each other.
She lives in the house right next to the church in town.

🍪    🍞    🍪

Such a pretty day I had to go outside for a while this afternoon.
Didn't feel like doin any work so just walked around.

The baby blanket I'm working on for November has 40 squares done already.
It has 12 different colors in it and will have 4 more colors.
I know I say this all the time but THIS ONE is my favorite.

That's all I've have for today.
Thanks for stopping by.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world,
that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life.

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves:
it is the gift of God:

Not of works, lest any man should boast.

A Blessed Sunday to all.

Another Work Day

38 degrees this morning and clear and no wind.
It was still dark when I left and I could see a million
stars and a sliver of the moon.
Sunrise 7:35

Walked all over town and over to the Dollar General where I turned around
and then headed over to the ball park and walked around there.
Lastly walked around the cemeteries.

A message was left on the mirror for me today.
HELLO : )

Made a short video walking through the leaves.

Rebecca was walking Leo and I also saw Lisa and Dwayne walking.
Dwayne asked me again how long the barn was and when
I said 644 feet he smiled and said he thought it couldn't be that long.
I suppose I could have heard Farmer Marvin wrong so the next
time I see him I'll ask again.
Will keep you posted.

Walked 5.5 miles

☀️    🥾    😊

Another day of working at church on Fingerprints.
This time we went first thing in the morning and worked
till a little after 1:30
We all got over 9,000 books assembled and packed up
on these two work days.

On the way home we stopped at Little Caesar's
and got a pizza and ate it in the truck.

Popped in the Dollar General to pick up a few things too.

A beautiful sunny day and in the 60's.

That's been my day.
Another good one.

Thanks for visiting.

Work Day

32 degrees, clear, and calm for walking this morning.
Sunrise 7:34

Walked up and down the streets in down and
around both cemeteries and the ball park.
Then around town a little more.
Walked 6 miles

This morning all the bulls walked over to the gate
to see me.

On my way to town I saw a deer and a rabbit run across the road.
In town saw a couple of blue jays at a bird feeder.

The garage in town is part of the car dealership across the street.
Most mornings I see the salesman and he waves from inside or says
 good morning if he's outside.
This morning he was outside and this was the first time we stopped
and talked.  His name is Phil.

Farmer Marvin stopped in his truck when I was up his way
to say hi.  I asked about his new huge barn.
It is 30 x 644 and is for his 150, as he called them, Mama Cows.
He wants to keep them in the barn during the winter.

Stopped for a little chat with Lisa and Dwayne when we were
walking around the cemetery on top of the hill.

Just a little frost on the mirror so only room for
a little message.

☀️    🥾    🐄

Did my usual morning chores this morning and then 11:00 we
headed out to church for another
Fingerprint Ministry work day.
We started working at 11:45 and got home 5:45.
The day zoomed right by.
Nice to be home to relax, watch a DVD,
Make some weave-it squares and of course have some ice cream.
Might even have time for a little reading.
It's been a good day.

Thanks for stopping by.

Bulls in the barnyard

31 degrees this morning and clear.
All snow gone.
Saw the sun once it rose at 7:33.
Walked 5.2 miles

Walked up and around town, down the main road,
and around both cemeteries.

Rebecca was out running this morning.

Went down to the Drane house.

The pond behind the Drane house.

And down this was too is the barnyard with the bulls.
All the bulls that have been in the surrounding pastures around the
Drane house aren't there anymore.
But lots of bulls are back in the barnyard.

Walking past the library I noticed it is getting a new metal roof.

☀️    🐄    🥾

Got home from walking, got changed, ate breakfast
and left for church.
It was a Blankets for Babies work day.
Eight people working today.
There I am making a square.
Someone sneaked this picture of me.
(picture not from today)

Didn't do much this afternoon, mainly read and puttered about.

Thanks for visiting.

Light Snow

31 degrees this morning and light snow falling as I walked.
Sunrise was at 7:32 but never did see it.
Walked 5.5 miles

Walked up and town the streets in town,
around the ball park
and the lower cemetery.

Didn't see anyone else out walking or doing anything.

The snow was very light but it fell the whole time I was walking.

🌨    🥾    🙂

Did the usual chores around the house this morning.

This snow really doesn't count as the first snow because it was such a little bit
BUT
since we start a puzzle with the first snow
and we wanted to do a puzzle we decided to count this dusting. 🙂🧩
We spent a good part of the afternoon
doing the first puzzle of the season.

Thanks for stopping by.

Quilt Headboard

A cloudy morning and 31 degrees when I walked.
A bit of a breeze and it got windier as the day wore on.
Sunrise 7:31
Walked 6 miles
Yesterday a few of you mentioned my 7 mile walk of yesterday.
Just wanted to say that once you are out walking there is
not much difference between 5, 6, or 7 miles.
I don't feel any different - it's time that makes me go home.

Walked all around town and around both cemeteries and the ball park.

Rebecca was the only person I saw and saw her twice.
Once walking Leo and the second time she was running.

Wore an extra layer and I know it is hard for some to believe
but I was too warm and had to take a layer off.

Pretty quiet around town this morning.

☁️    🥾    😊

We went to the Shop and Save to pick up a couple things.
Didn't need much so didn't go out to Casselmans.

Ken had to pick up a book from the library that was on hold so
we stopped there too.
I should have waited in the car because I came out with 2 more books.
(Deb - Saw a book by C J Box, The Bitterroots so picked that up because
you said liked his books and thought I'd give him a try)

Also yesterday a couple people mentioned the headboard for our bed.
Instead of a headboard I put up a quilt.
Here's a better look at it.
No one I know made it.
Bought it years ago from a catalog called Blair.
I remember it being very inexpensive and bought a few different designs.

Thanks for stopping by.
