Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Escapees

Another morning with a temperature of 64 degrees.
The sun came out but there were lots of patchy foggy places as well.
Once again walked the 5.2 mile Hilly Loop.

This is the white house next to the barns from the last two
days pictures.  Sometimes when I walk by the man that lives there
is just getting into his truck and he waves to me.  Today though he was already
gone when I passed by.
Coming to the last curve up the final hill to home I was greeted by
these two young ones who had escaped the pasture and were coming down the road.
There is mama in the pasture.
They turned around and headed back up the hill when I told them they'd better get back home.
One went right away but the other one was a bit more stubborn but
eventually I got him to get going again and they both made it back.
There is a cattle guard across the road that leads to their home but
I've seen the young ones jump over it.
πŸ„     πŸ„     πŸ„
Did a bit of house cleaning.  Since the house is new I'm still enjoying
cleaning it but I'm sure that feeling won't last.
I don't mind cleaning and I like a nice clean house but can't really
say that I enjoy cleaning.

We went over to the old house to get yard work done.
I mowed and Ken did the trimming.  Only took us about an
hour to get it all done.

Ken is making a shelf for the walk in bedroom closet along the opposite wall
that is already done with shelves and bars for hanging clothes.
He got it put together and painted it.  When it dries he is going
to put hooks all along the bottom.

We puttered around the house and yard, sat on the porch for a while
and just enjoyed being up here at Happy Trails.
I said to Ken today,
"This is the last place I want to live.  No more moving.
My next move will be my forever home in Heaven.

Hope your Friday was a good one and you smiled often.

Basil, Parsly, and Rosemary

The part of the building that is on the left of the picture is the
big barn from yesterday.
Tomorrow I'll take a picture of the big white house that sits
to the right of this picture.

64 degrees and cloudy this morning at 6:30 when I left on my walk.
It had rained last night so everything was wet but no rain.
By the time I got back home blue sky was making an appearance.

Walked the Hilly Loop again.
The usual deer were about and this time I also saw a bunny.
Herd 6 Cows were all on the other side of the pasture today
and farther up the road I spotted 7 other black cows in another pasture.
Didn't see the skunk but I sure smelled it.
As I was coming up the hill in front of our property on the way home I saw
6 wild turkeys dash into the woods.
Passing by these stone steps leading down to the water reminds me of
Ken so I took this picture for him.
With all his stone wall and steps building he can appreciate all the work it takes.
 Walked 5.2 miles
πŸ¦ƒ     πŸ‡     🐿     πŸ„
Puttered around the house in the morning and then
we went down to the Walmart in La Vale to do our shopping.
Stopped at Wendy's and had lunch.

While in Walmart I found some herbs to put in the box window
in the kitchen.
Basil
Parsley
Rosemary
We ate supper out on the front porch again.
We were supposed to have thunder storms but it ended up being
a nice sunny day.

Hope your day was a happy one.

At Home

66 degrees this morning when I left on my walk.
Very still at first and then a bit of a breeze as the sun came up.
Walked The Loop today.
Five of the 6 cows were sleeping when I walked past and one was up.
I must have woke the other 5 up because they all stood as I walked
by saying good morning to them.

In the picture I have passed by the cows and made it up to
the top of the first hill.
I'm around the bend here and about to head down a nice long curvy hill.
It is where school bus 46 passes me.
A  barn I pass along the way.
Really enjoying this new quiet route.
Walked 5.2 miles.
It doesn't bother me that I don't make my 6 miles on this route
because of all the steep hills I walk up.
🚢🏼‍♀️
I got to use my new clothes drying rack today.
It holds a full load.  I put it out on the porch and the clothes
were dried pretty quickly.

Used my new wall oven for the first time today too
when I made a batch of Snickerdoodle Cookies for the Sunday school
kids for this Sunday coming up.
No more dials on the oven.  It is all digital and once I got use to
it I like it, though it did take a long time to preheat.
This is the first time I've had a wall unit which is really nice.
It was nice to be home all day just doing house things.
Ken was outside puttering about doing this and that.
We warmed up some left over pizza and had that for supper.
We ate all three meals today out on the porch.
We are off to Wednesday night service now.
Hope your day was a good one and you smiled often.

New Drying Rack

Up and out of the house at 6:40.
It was 64 degrees and the sun hadn't come out yet.
This picture is at the end of my driveway.
Clear here but you can see the fog down below.
I made it to the fog and walked through it.
Had a couple Netflix to mail so today I walked to town and
went to the post office.
Then made a one loop turn around both cemeteries.
I'm walking down the hill here from one of the cemeteries
and you can it was a sunny morning here in town.
There was a low thin strip of cloud left here.
If you look closely you can see the morning moon.
Left town and walked home again.
Walked just over 6 miles.
🚢🏼‍♀️
Since we are out of the town limits here we no longer have trash
pickup so we went down to the old house to set out our trash there.
We still have some odds and ends sitting around so while we were
there we brought some of that home.  Mostly garage and shed stuff
but I did find a kitchen drawer that I had forgotten to empty.
I still haven't found a picture and half of my cookbooks.
Have no idea where they could be.

We hung up some shelves in the laundry/mud room and in our office.
Oh by the way sharing an office is working out fine.
Also got some more pictures here and there put up on the walls.
We just think we are done and something else comes along that
we forgot about.  Days are still very busy.

Lunch time we drove over to Whispering Pines and had lunch.
Also bought a nice big drying rack for clothes.
Don't have a clothes line yet so this will be great until I get one
and it will get lots of use in the winter when I can't hang the clothes outside.
I have a small one but it isn't very sturdy.
Here is a picture of the two of them.
The new one is taller than I am.
Looking forward to doing the laundry tomorrow so I can use it.
It doesn't take much to amuse me. 😊
Well I'm off to wash some of my old bottles to put on those shelves
we just hung up.

Hope your day was a good one and you smiled often.

A day getting gravel

69 degrees and no breeze made it one of the hottest walking mornings this summer.
Walked the 5.2 mile hilly Loop.
The first vehicle I encountered was 2 miles into my walk and
it was school bus number 46.  He always waved to me when he passed
by when I was in town last school year.
He must have wondered what I was doing way down here.

Up ahead is the bridge of the main road.  I walk under it and
just down the road it turns left and the road takes me to the main road.
This house hidden in the trees is on the curve to the main road.
What a beautiful spot, but wouldn't like to live so close to the
river during heavy rains.  Wonder if they get flooded.
I walked under the bridge of the main road here.
Walking up the main road Ken passed going the other way with the
truck and the dump trailer.  He was on the way getting a load
of crush and run gravel.
He tooted and gave me a wave.

Saw the usual deer about.
I was walking along and there were a bunch of goldfinches on each side
of the road going from weed to weed just ahead of me.
It was like they were going for a walk with me.

I made it home before Ken got home with the gravel.
🚢🏼‍♀️
Well now that we have the inside of the house pretty much done
we can get back to the outside.
After breakfast we spread the gravel out on the apron of the driveway.
Then spent the rest of the day going back and forth getting
a total of 6 loads of gravel and spreading it out.
It hasn't be tampered down yet though.
There will be about 5 feet of brick in front of the garage doors
where there is gray stone.
Also finished the path.
This view from the front porch.
On the last trip home Ken pulled in at McDonald's
and we had an ice cream cone treat. 🍦

That pretty much was our day.
Hope your day was a good one and you smiled often.

Home Alone

The sunset last night from the front porch.
Watching the sun go down from the porch is becoming a daily event.
Up and out of the house at 6:40 for my morning walk.
55 degrees with sun and clouds.

Walking down to the main road from the house is a bit over a mile.
No cars passed me but it seemed like Grand Central
Station for deer.  They were all over the place crossing the road
both ways in front of me and some walking down the middle of the road.
I didn't even bother to count them.

The sky wasn't colorful this morning but thought it looked
pretty anyway.
Walked to town and through town, then around the ball park loop
and one of the cemeteries before heading back home.

Only person I saw was Lisa running in the cemetery.

The last half mile trek up the hill is already getting easier.
I still stop and rest at two places but just for a few seconds.

Walked just over 6 miles
🚢🏼‍♀️
Ken left after breakfast and met a bunch of other guys
at our Pastor's house to help with the shingling of his roof.

It was nice to have the house to myself and go about doing
routine things.  Nice to be settled.

I painted the picnic table this morning.
So nice to sit out on the porch and get some reading done.
Besides my daily Bible reading I haven't read anything for
the last week.

When Ken came home from the roofing job we put the table
on the porch.

After supper we went for a little walk around Happy Trails.
So nice living at Happy Trails.

Hope your day was a happy one.

No curtains

54 degrees this morning at 7:00 when I left the house on my morning walk.
It was a sunny morning and perfect walking weather.
I walked the 5.2 miles round the Loop.
Along this route I've made some more cow friends.
There are 6 black ones in this pasture and I've named
them Herd 6.  Not very original but that's what I call them.
Four of them were sleeping in this corner of the pasture
when I walked by and this one stood up when I said good morning.
Counted 9 deer scattered along my way.
So far I've not seen any people.  Very few houses along the route.
πŸ„     πŸ„
Late in the morning went to the old house to mow the lawn.

We have a picnic table up by the cabin that has been out in the
weather for the last few years.  We brought it down to the house
this afternoon and Ken power washed it.
Wow it looks brand new again.
I'm going to paint the top a dark green like the house and
put it on the porch.  Will be so nice to eat some meals out there.

Yesterday was Fingerprint day at church so that kept us
busy yesterday.  Quite a lot of people there including a good number of kids
there. Didn't get a people count but we put
together 5,000 Romans books.

I'm not going to put up any curtains on the windows.
It is just too pretty to block any of the tree views.
Each window is like a beautiful picture come to life.
There is no one around to look in the windows anyway.

It was such a pretty day, sunny and 70 degrees.
A happy day to you.

The sun going down......

from our front porch.
 πŸ¦‹
Thank you all for those lovely house comments.
We are so blessed to have watched our house go from plans on paper
that Ken designed to Ronnie making those plans come alive.
What a  blessing to be living in the woods in our dream house.
God is Good.
πŸ¦‹
Don't know what the temperature was when I left this morning on my walk
but it felt around 60 degrees.  Pretty windy also.
There was a light misty rain at first but then just cloudy
and eventually during the day the sun came out.

Walked the Loop today.
I pass under some power lines and I can actually hear the wires crackle.
Kind of scary.
Walking over the river I stopped to take a picture.
The other day I mentioned that the main road hill I walked up was
2 miles, it is only 1 mile, though it felt like two. 😊

Saw a deer run across the road and then saw about a dozen deer
in a yard.  Just about to take a picture and a car came by and
they all ran away.

The Loop is 5.2 miles
🚢🏼‍
After breakfast we went up to the old house and loaded up the
washing machine and brought it home.
That hand cart of ours sure has come in handy with this move.
Ken and I moved everything by ourselves.
I tell people I'm stronger than I look!!

Did a load of laundry.
Don't have a clothes line yet so had to dry them on the drying rack.
Still moving things around a bit finding just the right place for everything.

One of our neighbors stopped by to invite us over for a BBQ on Labor Day.

Better go and find something to eat for supper.
Then off to church.

Hope your day was a good one and you smiled often.

Still getting settled and a few pictures

64 degrees this morning and cloudy with a bit of a wind.
The sun came out for part of my walk but it was one of those days
when there were periods of rain and sun.  Even had a thunderstorm.

Walked down the hill and then up the hill to town.
Stopped at the post office to mail off a Netflix and then to
public works to drop off the water bill from the old house.
Made a loop around town and then headed back home.
Saw 4 deer near my house run across the road in front of me.

Pretty quiet around town.
Walked 6 miles

A few of you mentioned if it was safe to walk and wondered about traffic.
When I left my house yesterday only 2 cars passed by on the windy
country roads.  There is hardly any traffic at all and when someone
passes they all wave and move way over to the side.
Even on the main road there is not much traffic and there
are nice wide shoulders.
I never listen to music or anything and I am aware of my surroundings.
So no need to worry.  😊

After breakfast I took the car up the road to get a set of new tires.
Ken picked me up and we went to the old house.
I vacuumed the whole house while Ken got some loose ends packed up.
We loaded the freezer in the truck and took it home.

We are still busy setting things up and we still have pictures to hang
up.  Some things we just don't have room for and we are thinking of taking
a load to an auction.

Some pictures of the house.  My phone doesn't take very good
inside pictures but here they are anyway.

That's about it for today.
Sure looking forward to my ice cream this evening.

Hope your day was a good one and you smiled often.

A New Walk

Well, it's been pretty busy around the new house the past few days
but things are settling down now.
We've made many trips back and forth between houses.
Still some odds and ends at the old house.

Haven't taken any pictures of the house but will soon.
Thought today I'd take you along a new walk route.
There will be many pictures of what I see along the way but
for today I'm just showing you my route.
Leaving my driveway.
A mile later at the end of my road and I made a right and went up the hill.
After I got to the top there was a nice long hill to walk down that was another mile.
Turned right and walked along this road that crosses a river.
Walked along the road until I came here and made another left turn.
It took me back over the river
and to the main road
where I turned right and walked up a 2 mile hill.
Then turned in here.  If I kept going up the road it would take me to town.
Back to my road and home to complete a Loop.
This route is only 5.2 miles but it is up and down some pretty steep hills.
I figure it is more of a work out than my usual 6 miles.

This morning it was 58 degrees and cloudy with a bit of a breeze.

Nice to have my computer back and on line.
No time to visit with you all this evening but hoping to catch up with you
tomorrow.

Hope your day was a good one.

Moving In

A nice cool breeze this morning kept the 64 degrees feeling nice and cool.
Nice to watch the sun coming over the mountain from the cemetery.
Walked up and down all the streets in town.
Lisa was out running and said a good morning as we passed by.

There are quite a lot of geese over by the town pond
and they cross the street and spend some time in a yard.
While crossing the street they leave lots of deposits in the road
and it is an obstacle course walking past.

The horse family was out in the pasture and Little Star is
getting pretty big.  They didn't even look up so I didn't take their picture.

Walked my usual 6 miles
🚢🏼‍♀️     🚢🏼‍♀️     🚢🏼‍♀️
Ken didn't go to breakfast with Edd this morning so I made
us the pancakes he would have had.
Ken went up to the house after breakfast.
I was at home getting some laundry done and baking
Chocolate Chippers for the kids at Sunday school this Sunday.
Also got a few more boxes packed up.

Finished the yellow baby blanket.
I made it with a white/yellow variegated yarn and though I like
how it came out it is just different than I thought.
I thought that each square would be variegated but the length
of the colors were too long for that.  I think it has a nice blend
of yellow and white.  I didn't arrange the squares in this order but
sewed them together as they were made.
The next blanket I'm going to try to make a gingham pattern.
Got the idea from Blogger friend Lisa who has made a blanket with
that pattern that turned out beautiful.

After lunch we started bringing more stuff up to the house.
The final inspector came and gave us the all clear to move in.
Oh Happy Days

We worked all afternoon and brought up three full pick-up loads
and put everything were it goes.
Even have some pictures on the walls.

Went back to the house for supper, just had left over pizza.
Then went back to the new house with a small load
and now we are back at the old house for one last night.

Had to bake a second batch of chocolate chippers for the kids at
Sunday school for Sunday and now I'm ready to sit
down and rest.
Snack tonight will be four fresh baked cookies.
And I'm off to eat them right now.

Hope you had a good day and you smiled often.

Happy

Walked all around town this morning.
All the usual places, down the main street, the cemeteries and ball park loop.
It was 60 degrees with some low hanging clouds around.
They soon passed though and it was a sunny walk.

It is not dark when I leave but the sun hasn't come over the
mountain yet.  Not long ago it was sunny when I left at 6:30.

A quiet morning around town.  Didn't see anyone else out.

Walked 6 miles
Found another penny 😊
It's been a good week for pennies.
🚢🏼‍♀️     🚢🏼‍♀️     🚢🏼‍♀️
Today it was Blankets for Babies day and I headed out at 9:00.
It was Marilyn's turn to bring breakfast which was
an egg casserole and fresh fruit.
Pam continued the devotional this month that she started last month.
There were 10 of us working on blankets this month.
I'm still working on the yellow one but only have 4 more squares to do.
I'll definitely finish it this evening.

This afternoon I finally got to mow the lawn.  With all the rain
showers we've had the lawn stayed too wet to mow.

I didn't plant any sunflowers in my yard this year but a few
have come up on their own.
Planning on planting some next year at the new house.
A few of you have asked if we have sold our house yet.
No, not yet.  We still have only had that one viewing.
Have just lowered the price again.

We packed up a few more boxes and after supper took them to
the house.  We just made it before a rain shower arrived.

Electric and plumbing inspector came to today and all is well.
Final inspector coming tomorrow to check the few things that
needed to be done.
So it looks like Saturday really is move in day.
We are two very happy people.

Sure will enjoy sitting down and eating my ice cream this evening.

Hope your day was a good one and you smiled often.

A couple more inspectors

58 degrees this morning when I left on my walk.
It was a mostly cloudy morning with some low clouds hanging
close to the ground.
Not long after though the sun came through the clouds and it
was a pretty morning.

Walked the Farm Loop.
Fun to watch as two deer went 'springing' across the soy bean field.

Lisa was running around the Farm Loop and we stopped for a little chat.

Once I got back to town I saw Kathy and walked with her
around one of the cemeteries a couple of times.

Then I headed back home.
Look what's left of the old house they are taking down.
before you know, no one will ever know a house was there.
 Walked 6 miles
Another money day, found 3 pennies this time.
πŸ’°     πŸ’΅     πŸ’°
Got a load of laundry hung out on the line and then went up
to the new house with Ken.
Brought a few more boxes of books and some more dishes up with us.
Got all those put away.

While we were there the Fire Marshal and the sprinkler system
inspectors came and gave us a thumbs up.
Plumbing and electric inspector comes tomorrow.

We did some work outside.
Had to put up a fence on the other side by the basement doors.

The day past quickly, we came home, got cleaned up,
ate, and now are off to church.

Hope your day was a good one and you smiled often.

Empty Garage

A cloudy morning but did see the sun once in a while.
It was 56 degrees.
Walked over to the laundromat to put a flyer for a church
event up on the bulletin board.
Then continued on down the road for a mile or so.
Turned around and on the way back walked around the
industrial park.
Back in town I spotted Kathy and walked the last mile with
her as we talked.

A few rabbits about and some of them looked quite small.

Walked 6 miles
Found a dime and two pennies
πŸ’°     πŸ’°
Mid morning I drove my beautiful red car for the last time when I drove
it to Doug who has found a buyer.
It was sad but still think it was the right decision.
It was weird to come home and not see my car in the garage.

We decided to put some brick pavers on the driveway in front
of the garages and went to order them from a company in PA
just a few miles away.
They will arrive in 3 - 4 weeks.
For now we will put the pavers about 6 feet out
and eventually get more as we get time and money.

Packed up the rest of my Fiestaware and brought it to the new
house.  Happy to say no breakage.

I thought just one home inspector had to give the final approval but
a few of them have to come.
One came today and a few things need to be fixed.  Just little things
that can be tended to easily.
Still hoping it will all get done this week and we plan to move in on Saturday,
BUT we may have to wait a few more days.

We were in Grantsville today and I snapped a picture of the
Amish buggy.
Only have 14 more weave-its to make for the baby blanket.
I've been sewing them row by row so won't have a lot of sewing at
the end.  Will probably get at least 5 squares done tonight.

We had weather like yesterday, raining one minute and sunny the next.
Hope your day was a good one and you smiled often.
