Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Another book series

This sunrise is another I took the other day.
It is down by the Drane house pond.
🌲     🌲
Sunrise 7:18
41 degrees this morning under cloudy skies with a bit of a breeze
for my walk today.
The sun come out later in the day.

Another walk around town but I did go up Sale Barn a ways and also
down toward Happy Trails before coming back to town again.

Today ALL the geese are gone.  Didn't see a one of them.

No people either except for the workers working on the fire house.
They have finished with the stone front and are now finishing up the chimney.

Dropped a book down the slot at the library.
(Skipping Christmas by John Grisham)

Walked 6 miles
 πŸŒ²     🌲
I've been having oatmeal for breakfast the past few days.
Good eating after a walk.
I make it with milk and add some brown sugar.
Very filling.

Changed out the orange and yellow fiestaware on my hutch to
green and cream.
Started reading another new book series that was recommended to me by
my friend Kathy.  (I know so many Kathy's)
The O'Malley Series
This first book is The Negotiator
Liked it right away.

Time to get supper started.

A happy day to you.

White planters

Good Morning
🌲     🌲
Nice to get back to my morning walk after missing a day.
It was 46 degrees this morning, with sun and clouds.
Every since I got my warm winter walking coat the weather has been
too warm to wear it.
Not complaining though, I've had some terrific walking weather.

Start my walk by going to the library and dropping a book
down the book drop.  (The Mysterious Island)
Then just walked all over the place around town.
Sometimes it is nice to have a route to walk and other times it
is just nice to walk wherever you feel like it at the moment.

It was very quiet around town, didn't see anyone else out walking
or even see anyone to say Good Morning to.
No rabbits today but still lots of geese at both little ponds.

Walked 6 miles
 πŸŒ²     🌲
Ken was still home when I got back from walking but after breakfast
he went up to HT at house site.

I stayed home getting some house work done.
Time to clean the bathrooms.
Once we move, it will be nice having just 1 1/2 bathrooms to keep clean.

I moved my small collection of white planters to the front room
and put them on this little dresser that I took the drawers out of.
Cut some shoots off my philodendron to try to root them.
I think they also will just grow in water.
 A happy day to you.

A day in the car

Today was one of those rare mornings when I didn't go for a walk.

We left this morning at 7:00 in the truck to pick up the trailer at church
with two pallets of the Roman's books we as a church assembled at Fingerprints.
Then we drove down to Staunton, Va and delivered them to a warehouse
where they will be picked up and eventually be given to missionaries in
Panama who will distribute them down in Panama.

While there we picked up another pallet to bring back to church for
the next time we do Fingerprints.
These too are Roman's books but they will be going to Mexico.

It is a 3 hour drive one way so we were gone all day.
The route is a pretty one with not much traffic until we get
down almost to Staunton.
We travel past lots of farms down in a valley.
I got quite a few barn pictures which will be future posts
for the Barn Collective.
Here are some pictures I took along with way.
All are taken driving along so they may not be the best pictures.

This is a truck full of chickens.  I barely got a picture of them as
we drove past the truck.
Before arriving back home we stopped at HT at the house site to see what
was done today.  The basement floor has been poured.

That's it for today.
Looking forward to walking in the morning.

A happy day to you.

Barn Collective

Linking up today with Tom's Barn Collective series.

Neighbors barn up at Happy Trails house.
Barn by the pond down by the Drane house.
Hidden barn behind the industrial park.
🚜     🚜
It was a calm morning for walking with a temperature of 33 degrees.
Sunrise was at 7:15.  It is quite dark out again when I start walking.
Once the sun came up it stayed out so I had a sunny walk.
Too warm for wearing my new coat.

Took my usual walk all over town but I changed how I walked the route.
Made it up as I went along.

Been a while since I saw any rabbits but today I counted 4 of them.
The horses were in the pasture down by the Drane house.
One came over to see if I had anything for him, gave my hand a sniff, and then went
right back to eating.  The other one didn't even bother to look up.

Haven't seen Cathy for about a week now but I see Lisa every day.

Walked 6 miles
🌲     🌲
Washed the sheets first thing this morning and since it was sunny
and in the 40's I hung them outside.
(went up to the low 50's by afternoon)

Mid morning we headed out to Oakland to get a bunch of errands done.
Had lunch out and got home about 3:30.
We've had supper and now it's time to enjoy our evening at home.
A happy day to you.

Town Pond Sunrise

Sunrise this morning down by the town pond.
Took this one about 2 minutes later.
🌲     🌲
Pretty warm this morning considering it is the end of November,
43 degrees and though it was sunny during my walk it clouded
up right after I got back home.

Walked my usual walk all around town, including both cemeteries
and the ball park loop.

Another quiet early morning around town.
Only person I saw was Lisa running.

Walked 6 miles
🌲     🌲
After breakfast we headed up to HT at the house site and did a bit
of a clean up.  Got a fire started for burning still more brush and
building debris.
I tried using the leaf blower to get rid of all the leaves inside the house,
but I ended up doing was blowing them all over the place.
Ken took over and got them all out of the house.
Now that the roof is on and the leaves are off the trees the house
should stay cleared of them .

We took a lunch with us and ate up there.
After lunch I decided to come home.
Ken stayed to do some work with the tractor.

I wanted to get back to reading my book.

A happy day to you.

Thankful assesment

A cold, bright, crisp, sunny morning for my walk today.
23 degrees.
I got a new coat from LL Bean that keeps me warm and toasty.
Almost too warm.
This is great for these cold mornings and I'm sure it will be good
even when we get temperatures in the teens and maybe even single digits.
When temperatures are near 30 I believe the coat will be too warm and
I'll wear my couple of sweatshirts on those days.
It has lots of pockets for my phone, camera, pepper spray, and tissues.
Color of the coat is a two toned purple.
It is also water resistant to water so on those snowy days
it will be great.
It was pretty expensive even on sale but I'm sure glad I splurged and got it.

Walked my usual around town route and saw Lisa once again.
Still pretty quiet around town.  Maybe everyone has left town for the a day
of shopping.

Walked 6 miles
Found a penny
🌲     🌲
Ken worked up at HT at the house site on his tractor burying the electric cable.

I'm home today doing a bit of this and that around the house.  🏑
No cleaning, just enjoying my day.

Some facts about turkeys
The average weight of a Thanksgiving turkey is 15 lbs.
The heaviest turkey raised weighed in at 86 lbs.
A 15 lb turkey has about 70% white meat and 30% dark meat.
Turkey has more protein  that chicken or beef.
Turkeys will have 3,500 feathers at maturity.
Male turkeys gobble.  Hens do not, they make a clucking noise.
Commercially raised turkey cannot fly.

Hope your day is a happy one.

Here's some questions to ask yourself to assess how
Thankful you really are.

Would the people who live nearest to you characterize you as a complaining person or a thankful person?

When was the last time you sat down to literally count your blessings?

When was the last time you spent time grumbling, moaning and complaining about life?

When you look at your world, are you pessimistic about everything that's going on?

When you look at your world, do you find yourself celebrating God's common grace?

Do you view yourself as one who has been constantly short-changed and neglected?

Do you view yourself as one who has been unfairly showered with blessings?

How often do you fill in the blank, with grumbling, like "If only I had _____", or "I wish _____ was different."

How often do you fill in the blank with gratitude, like "I can't believe God has given me _____"?

Happy Thanksgiving

What a beautiful view that house up on the hill must have.
It is for sale.
Zooming in
This morning it was 24 degrees and sunny once the sun rose.
Walked my usual walk all over the place around town and down toward
HT a ways.
As you would expect early morning on Thanksgiving no one was out
and I only saw a few cars the whole time I was out.
It sure was nice being out having the whole place to myself.

Walked 6 miles
πŸ—     πŸ—
No turkey for us today.  I made The Pioneer Woman's Pot Roast.
It was the first time I'd ever made it.
We had mashed potatoes with it and for dessert I made a chocolate cream pie.
Certainly not a traditional Thanksgiving dinner but a good one
all the same.

I am so thankful for all my many blessings.

My Thanksgiving Prayer
 Our Dear Heavenly Father
Today is Thanksgiving
And we thank you for all you have given us.
We thank you for family and friends
and remember the lonely.
We thank you for our health
and remember the sick.
We thank you for our food
and remember the hungry.
And as we remember,
May our hearts be stirred
to help anyone we can
in our small way.
Thank You God for all our many blessings.
Amen

I Thessalonians 5:18
In everything give thanks;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Being thankful is good for everyone concerned.
It promotes goodness, kindness, contentment, joy, selflessness,
and helps to remind us to enjoy what we already have.

 Happy Thanksgiving
Thanks to you all for being my blogger friends

A thankful heart

πŸ—     πŸ—
The thermometer read 34 degrees and a look out the window revealed
a misty rain.  So on went the rain pants.  Didn't bother with the
umbrella because it was just a mist.

Two miles into my walk I was walking around the ball park loop
and the misty rain turned into snow showers.
That only lasted about 15 minutes and then the rest of my walk it was
just cloudy and windy.

I saw 4 deer running across the field and then later I saw one not so lucky
who didn't make it across the street.
A big truck must have hit it because it was really bad.

I saw Lisa out walking.  I was just leaving the cemetery and she
was just arriving.  She usually runs.

I found the first coin of the month, a penny.
Was starting to think that this was going to be the first month
ever that I didn't find any coins.

Walked 6 miles
πŸ—     πŸ—
The Blueberry Swirl Cheesecake last night I am happy to say was a big hit.
The whole cake was eaten up and no leftovers to bring home.
I did manage to get a little slice of it and it was delicious.
It will definitely be something that I will make again.

Ken and David went to get more loads of stone today while I stayed
home and got some things done around the house.

There was a misty rain for most of the day.
I spent most of the afternoon sitting in the front room
reading The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne.
A great way to spend a dreary afternoon.

Since I've been in the kitchen quite a bit lately I thought it would
be nice if we went out to Brenda's for pizza and that is what
we will be doing in just a little while.

A happy day to you.

Morning geese

A warm 43 degrees this morning and sunny with a bit of a wind.
I wore too many clothes and was quite warm.
Walked my usual walk all over the place around town.
LOTS of geese on both the pond down by the Drane house
and also on the little pond in town.
I stopped to watch some of the geese come in for a landing on the thin
coating of ice on the pond.
They would go sliding across the ice.  Looked like fun.

Thought this cloud looked like a bird in flight with it's wings spread.
Walked 6 miles
⛅     ⛅
Went out to the Shop and Save to pick up a few things.
Then made supper for a church member who is sick.
We are all taking turns cooking for her and her family.
David went up to the house site to do some work with Ken.
They came home for lunch bringing sandwiches from the
bakery/deli in town.
 They brought me one too.
Turkey on wheat bread.

Then back out they went with the dump trailer in tow to the stone
place to get a couple loads of stone for the basement in the house.
Once they get that done and level the concrete floor can be poured.

Walked over to the library and picked up another two books
that were on hold for me.  Now I just have to find the time to read them.

This evening we are going to the Pie and Praise service at church.
Thanksgiving week we have a service on Tuesday and instead of the usual
prayer meeting on Wednesday.
Pastor kept hinting for a blueberry cheese cake so that's why
I made one yesterday.  I'd never made one before and this turned
out looking delicious.  I'm hoping to eat a piece tonight!!!

A happy day to you.

Barn Collective and a bit of a mishap

Linking up with Tom for the Barn Collective this week.
Took these pictures last week sometime.
🚜     🚜
23 degrees this morning when I walked but the sun did come out and there
was no wind so it was actually quite nice out.
Had my usual walk around town though I didn't walk my full 6 miles,
just 5 miles today.
Had to get home so we could go and pick up the car.
That story coming up.
The geese seemed to be enjoying the sun too.

Didn't see anyone else out walking.
🌲     🌲
Our son David is visiting with us today and he will be staying with us
for an extended visit.  So nice to have him around with us for a while. 😊
We haven't seen him for a little over a year.

Now for the little mishap we had with the car last night.
We left for the evening church service at 6:15 and it was snowing.
Nothing sticking on the roads in town but 20 minutes down the road the
snow was coming down fast and straight at us and sticking on the road
and it was quite slick out.
Came down a hill and had to make a left turn and though we were going
slow we started sliding around the corner and off the road we went
down an embankment between some trees.
Thankfully neither one of us was hurt.
As we were climbing out of the car Dave and Joy who were also on their
way to church stopped to help us.  The police came and said we could leave
the car there and deal with it in the morning.
So we continued on to church with Dave and Joy who also brought
us home again.  They also live in our town.
You can barely see the top of the car in this picture that I took this
morning when we met the tow truck there.
We missed the guard rail and barely missed a couple of trees.
Here is the tow truck pulling the car up out of the ditch.

There was just a little damage to the front right bumper.
I was able to drive the car home without a problem.
We thank God that we weren't hurt, that Dave and Joy were there to
help and that the car wasn't damaged.

This evening I am baking a Blueberry Cheese Cake for tomorrow evening.
So I'd better get to it.

A happy day to you.

Thankful for our safety and having our son David here with us.

Chalk drawings

These are the last two chalk drawings that Don Williams drew on Friday and Saturday.
The door from the other day is still my favorite but the eagle
comes in at a close second.

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk and not faint.

Last of the vintage cards

This morning the temperature was up to 46 degrees when I started walking.
A beautiful morning sky to start the day.
But it only lasted a couple of minutes and then it was cloudy.
And not long after, a light drizzle started and it was on and off all
during my walk.
I was wet by the time I got home but it wasn't cold so it wasn't a problem.

Walked the Farm Loop.  It has been a while sine I walked there and it was
nice to get up that way again.
Not one single car passed me along the 3 mile stretch of road.
Down by the Dairy Farm the 6 little yippy dogs were all outside.
Two of them came after me but I walked backwards passed them
and they eventually ran back home.  A couple of years ago one of them nipped
me in the leg.  This time I had my pepper spray handy just in case.
Thankfully I didn't have to use it.

I saw a couple of deer.
No people about.

Once I was back in town, I walked a quick loop around town and home.
Walked 6 miles
🐾     🐾
A rainy day and it seemed like a good day to make pancakes for breakfast.
It was one of those rainy days that we just stayed home and didn't
do all that much of anything.
Went through some stuff to get rid of so as not to have to move it to
the new house.

This is the last of the vintage cards I have from when I was born.
And another baby picture of yours truly.

A happy day to you.

I am so very thankful for my eyesight.
God has created such a beautiful world and I am thankful that
I can see all the beautiful colors.
What a blessing to see the sunrise at the start of a new day.
I am thankful to be able to read books and blogs,
to see the faces of my children and grandchildren.
And to look into Kenny's eyes and see his love for me.

I usually answer questions in comments in the next days post.
At this time I am going back to answering them in the reply in comments.

🌲     🌲
It was 36 degrees this morning and cloudy when I went for my morning walk.
Nice that the wind died down from yesterday.
The sun came out when I was just getting home.

Walked straight through town and around the cemeteries and
ball park loop and then around town again.

Down on the pond by the Drane house there were a whole bunch of geese.
When I stopped to take their picture, half stayed and half flew away.
I've noticed some people around town have put up their Christmas
decorations and the town decorations have been put up too.
There are about 15 lighted decorations put up on the telephone poles.
Angel, reindeer, candle, santa, drummer, tree, snowman, holly, wreath,
poinsettia, wooden soldier, and that is all that I can remember right now.

Saw a couple of those blue jays again and Milo the cat over by
the day care center in town was out.  I gave him a little pet as I walked by.

Walked 6 miles
🌲     🌲
This morning once again another batch of chocolate chippers got baked
for Sunday and the LAST one.
There were some left over for Ken. 😊
I've looked at so many cookies lately I didn't even want to eat one!!

Got a bit of work done around the house.
Read a bit in the afternoon.

Here's some more vintage baby cards from when I was born.
Still have a couple more pictures of them and will post them at another time.
Here's a picture of me many many years ago.
Kind of reminds me of Popeye. 😊

A happy day to you.

I am Thankful for the my hearing.
A few of my favorite sounds.
The sound of water as it runs over rocks in a brook
the sound of a waterfall
chirping birds
a baby's laughter
rain on my umbrella
the church in town as the bells ring at noon and 6:00
that rumbling sound my car makes when I downshift

Chalk Drawings

Saw some blue sky for a little while on my walk.
It was raining at 6:15 when I woke up but when I walked it was just
cloudy and very windy.  Sun came out for a little while but then
the rest of the day it was cloudy.

Walked through town and met up with Cathy for a walk around
one of the cemeteries.

A short walk today, got a late start and had to go out in the
morning so could only walk 2 miles.

It was Baby Blanket day and I met with 11 others to make blankets.

Home for lunch and after lunch baked another batch of
chocolate chip cookies for Sunday.

I mentioned that at church this week every evening Don
Williams was preaching and drawing his chalk drawings.
He's done 4 so far.
Each drawing when a black light is help up to it, has another picture
within the picture.
You can kind of see the other images in the pictures in these photos of them.
My favorite so far is the Door - the other picture within it, is Jesus
standing with His arm reaching out inviting you in.
My second favorite

Two more nights to to.
Maybe I'll have a new favorite.

A happy day to you.

Roof shingles

🏠     🏠
I walked 6 miles all over and around town again.
It was 36 degrees and so nice to see a bit of sun.

While I was walking Ken drove passed me on his way up to the house site
and gave me a toot as he drove by.
He was back home again by the time I got back from my walk.
He had stopped at the bakery and brought a box of donuts home and
had one for breakfast.  I am happy to say that I was able to say
NO to the donut.

Saw Cathy's car this morning but our paths never crossed.
No one else out walking.

Took this picture behind the ball park loop.
🏠     🏠
After breakfast I went with Ken to the stone place and we got
a load of stone in our little dump trailer and took it to the house site.
We went back 2 more times.
That took up most of the day.

The roofing shingles were delivered the other day and today
the job began.  Exciting to see that started.
The day ended up cloudy and it never did warm up much.

Make your day a happy one.
A smile from me to you.

I'm Thankful for my car.
Every since I was a little girl I've loved Corvettes but I never
thought I'd ever actually have one of my own.
Then in 2002 Ken bought me one with a bonus he got from work.
It is a Red C5 and this year it was 15 years old.
Still to this day when I park it and get out of the car and look back at it,
I can't believe it is actually mine.
If you scroll down past the posts you will be able to see a picture of it.
