Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Monday

❤️ Thanks so much for all the happy anniversary wishes. ❤️

Another walk inside today.
Hoping to be able to walk in town again one day.

Anni - this picture of Ken's train layout shows the waterfalls
he made with plastic wrap.

We went in the truck this morning to church to pick up the church
trailer and load it up with the Roman's books we all put together
a couple of months ago.
We missed a couple of months assembling the scriptures
because the publisher was having trouble getting paper
so couldn't print anything for us.
But now things a ready to go again.
Later in the week we will drive to Bedford, Pa and deliver
the finished books and pick up material for the next batch of books.

Our church has been saving up money for a new activity center
for some years now and the building is up now.
Just a shell now but we are so thankful to have
gotten this far.

Did a few house chores and then just puttered about the house.
Got some reading done and we worked on the puzzle.
Will do more of the same this evening.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit.
Hope your Monday was a happy one. 😊

He Leadeth Me

Happy Sunday

🎶 He Leadeth Me 🎶

1.  He leadeth me: O blessed thought!
O words with heavenly comfort fraught!
Whate'er I do, where'er I be,
still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me.

Refrain:
He leadeth me, he leadeth me;
by his own hand he leadeth me:
his faithful follower I would be,
for by his hand he leadeth me.

2.  Sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom,
sometimes where Eden's flowers bloom,
by waters calm, o'er troubled sea,
still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me.

3.  Lord, I would clasp thy hand in mine,
nor ever murmur nor repine;
content, whatever lot I see,
since 'tis my God that leadeth me.

4.  And when my task on earth is done,
when, by thy grace, the victory's won,
e'en death's cold wave I will not flee,
since God through Jordan leadeth me.

🎶    🎶    🎶

Today is our anniversary.
❤️ 50 years ago today we started our lives together. ❤️

A Blessed Sunday to all.

Anni - Ken makes the water on his train layout with a plastic resin that is made specifically to look like water. First he paints the riverbed and then pours the resin into it.  For waterfalls he used plastic wrap.

NanaDiana - Had a treadmill once a long time ago and just hated it.  Much rather walk in the basement if I can't be outside.

Cold

All of my 6 miles were walked in the basement today.
Though it ended up sunny, it was windy and 6 degrees.
I forgot to mention yesterday that it takes me 15 minutes
to walk a mile in the basement.
So walking 2 miles at a time just takes 30 minutes.
Doing that 3 times works out quite well for me.

Here's a broader view of part of the layout and you can see
part of where I walk there on the left.

Another snowy picture.
Taken out of the bathroom window.
The fence you see through the trees is along the lane where I walk.

A sunny afternoon though very cold.

Worked some on the puzzle, read, and knitted and didn't do much else.
The white blanket I'm knitting is now 20 1/4 inches long.
Finished it will measure 36 inches.

Didn't make our Friday night pizza yesterday so we did that today.
I looked forward to a pizza supper all day.

Well I guess that's it for today.
Thanks for stopping by for a visit.
😊 A happy Saturday to you.

Around and Around

Started my walk in the basement when it was still dark out.
Walked 2 miles.
A while back someone asked how many loops I walk in the basement.
I answered that I didn't know and didn't want to know! 😃
Well this morning I counted and 14 trips around the layout is
1/2 mile.  That sounds better than 28 times for a mile.
Every quarter mile I change direction.
Wind up one way and unwind the other way. 😃

After breakfast and a couple house chores later I was ready
to go outside and shovel the snow off the driveway once again
when there was a break in the snow.
Only a couple of inches but then it started snowing again
and has been all day.

Came in for lunch and then went out walking in the snow.
I suppose by now you all are getting tired of snow pictures
but here's a few more .

Up at the top of the lane I couldn't see town today because
of the snow.

Walked along here too.

Walked 4 miles outside so got all 6 miles walked.

It snowed the whole time I was walking and it was wonderful
to be out walking in a snow globe.

I have heard people say they hate snow.
I wonder if they have ever been out walking down a country lane in it.
Seeing no one, hearing the quiet, and feeling at peace with the world.
There is something magical about walking in the snow.
When I'm out in the snow, 60 years fade away and I'm 10 years old again.

I did finish reading Home to Harmony last night and absolutely loved it.
Will start the second book in the series this evening.

We have started another puzzle.
Just got all the pieces out on the table and the border pieces picked out.

That's it for today.
Thanks for stopping by for a visit
and thanks so much to all who take the time to leave a comment.
😊 Happy Friday 😊

Making a rock cliff

We had a beautiful sunny day but cold and I ended up
doing all my walking inside.
Today I made some loops around the main floor in the house too
instead of just the basement.

While I was walking in the basement Ken was there making some
rock cliffs for his train layout.
Thought you might like to see how he does it.

First he mixes up a solution of plaster.

Then puts the mixture into a rubber mold.

The one he's using above is store bought but he has made many molds.

He makes them by painting rocks he finds outside with a rubber substance.
Quite a few layers are painted on with drying time between each layer.

Next the mold gets turned over onto cardboard, pressed down,
and after drying an hour or so

the mold gets carefully pulled off the plaster.
The rock cliff cast will be painted after drying completely for a day or so.

The plaster cliff then gets added to the layout.
A section on the right is finished and the ones he made today
will get added after they are painted.
Then some greenery is added.

🛤    🚂    🛤

After lunch we went to the library and picked up the two
books that were ready for me.
They are books 1 and 2 of a new series.
Home to Harmony and Just Shy of Harmony
by Philip Gulley.
Started reading the first book and liked it right from the start.
It's just a little book and I read half of it this afternoon,
will probably finish it later this evening.
Learned about this series from
blogger friend Deb.
If you liked the Mitford series by Jan Karon or the Miss Read books
you will like this series as well.

📕    📗    📘

It was nice to sit by the back glass door with the sun shining
in reading and knitting.
More snow is supposed to be coming tonight
so it may still be a while before I'll be walking in town again.

Thanks so much for stopping by for a visit.
A happy Thursday to you. 😊

Wednesday

Snowed again this morning - stopped by lunch time and then it was sunny.
Stayed pretty cold all day, around 10 degrees so I ended
up getting all my walking done inside today.

A left over picture from yesterday.

🌨    ☁️    🌤

Today I got the bathroom cleaned and did some dusting.
I think of all the house hold jobs dusting is my least favorite.

We took all our rubbish to the dump in Grantsville
and stopped in at the drugstore on the way home.

When we got home I had an email from the library saying
my two books on hold were in.
Thought about going back out to get them but since I'm
still reading the Pickwick Papers will just go tomorrow to get the books.

Did some knitting this afternoon again and thats about all I did today.

Planned on making a meatloaf for supper but instead of
putting it in the slow cooker or oven I mixed all the ingredients
and divided it into 4 sections.
Flattened them out and cooked them on the griddle.
We ate two and froze the other two.
Had mashed potatoes and peas with it.

Thanks so much for visiting.
A happy day to you. 😊

Tuesday

A few more inches of snow fell overnight and by early morning it at stopped.
Started walking in the basement.

Pancakes sounded like just the thing for breakfast,
Ken agreed so I made some.

A little after breakfast when the temperature was 20 degrees
Ken and I went out to clear the driveway of snow.
Just used shovels because there wasn't that much snow.
That done Ken went inside and I went for a walk.

Walking down the driveway.

While walking up the lane a light snow started falling once again.

Hardly ever meet anyone while walking around up the lane
and then it isn't people but a vehicle.
Though I did once come across David and Liz walking.

Happy to say I got all 6 miles walked again.

☁️   🌨   🥾

After lunch we went the Shop and Save, but only needed a
few things, so were in and out pretty quickly.
Also stopped at the library to drop off some books.
They were handing out little bags of face masks to everyone
who wanted them.  5 were in a bag.  We each took a bag.

Got things put away when we got home, did a couple of
things around the house and read for a while.
Got a couple more rows knitted on the white blanket too.

In the afternoon we saw a quick peek of the sun.
Just long enough to know it is still up there somewhere. ⛅️

Another easy supper - frozen pizza that we had made last week.

So nice of you to stop by for a visit.
A happy day to you. 😊

Traction Cleats

Started my walk inside again this morning and in the afternoon
walked outside out back and up and down the lane
to get 6 miles walked.
This will be my walking routine for a while till I can get
back to town to walk.
Town is a mess for walking.
With sidewalks right at the edge of the street the snow
has no where to go when the snow plows come by so the sidewalks
are piled with snow.
The cemeteries and the ball park don't get cleared
and then there are the unexpected icy patches
so it is just easier walking around near the house.
Nice to have a change and I'll soon be back to walking in town.

We got a little more snow overnight
so before I went walking in the afternoon
I shoveled a couple inches of snow off the driveway.
Sun came out for a little while during the morning but by
late afternoon it was snowing again.

Walking in the snow and ice I used to put Yaktrax on my shoes or boots
and they worked fine but I have found
something I like better called Limm Traction Cleats.

YakTrax is on the left and Limm on the right.
I find it is easier to walk with Limm cleats and they just work
better with the cleats gripping into the ice and snow.
Both YakTrax and the Limm are easy to put on.

Inside I got the vacuuming done and also washed the sheets
and did a few other household chores.

Got a bit of knitting done and reading too.
Supper was easy because I had some Stuffed Pepper Soup
in the freezer that just had to be thawed.

That's it for today.
A happy Monday to you. 😊
Thanks for visiting.

Cookies

Another morning with a temperature of 0 so got my walking done
inside today.
Planned on getting outside to walk once in warmed up in the
afternoon but I never did make it outside.
Finished all my walk inside.

After breakfast we went shopping at the Dollar General.
Their heat wasn't working so great and it was freezing in the store.
Felt sorry for the cashier because she was right by the door!!

Finished the puzzle.
It was a fun one and pretty easy.
Anni - can you find the troll? I though of you when I saw it. 😄
(it's on the left side in about the middle of the puzzle)

We turn the puzzle over and write on the back of it.
Jan 2019 was on the back of this one which was the first time
we did the puzzle.  Today we added todays date on it.

I baked some cookies this afternoon.
I used the recipe for the German Chocolate Cookies made with box of cake mix
but this time used a white cake mix instead.
I call these cookies
Vanilla Chocolate Chip Cookies
They were very good!

In and out

The first thing I do in the morning is put on my walking
shoes and go walking - inside or outside.
This morning the temperature was 0 degrees and it was dark
so my walk started inside.
Looking out the basement door.

A scene from  Ken's HO train layout which is what I walk around
down in the basement.

This morning I spent doing housework.  Haven't done much this
week so there was a lot to do today.

After lunch I finished up my walk outside.
It was 14 degrees, no wind, and a beautiful sunny day.
Sure enjoyed my walk.
Went up and down the lane to our neighbors Ron and Theresa house
and couple of times.

Just before I got to their house I walked up another driveway.
There is no one there now and they are hardly ever there
so that's why I walked that way.
It hadn't been plowed or anything so it was a good work out
walking there through the snow but it was so pretty.
I would say the driveway is about 1/2 mile in.
The tracks you see aren't mine but deer tracks of which I saw many!!

A couple of times I stopped and just listened to the quiet.
So peaceful and calming and I was so thankful to be out there.
The snow sparkled in the sun, just like glitter was spread around.

As usual did a little knitting and reading before it was
time to get supper started.

Oh, about the S'mores ice cream last night - I loved it.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Hope your day was a happy one. 😊

A walk in the snow

We had a power outage from 6:00 to 9:00 this morning.
Sure thankful it didn't last longer.

We had some rain last night and then it turned colder and started snowing.
Though it snowed on and off all day we didn't even get an inch more.
Walked a couple miles inside and then after lunch
Ken and I went walking out back in the woods.

I wasn't ready to go back inside when Ken was so
he went in and I kept walking.
Went up and down the lane a couple of times.

Looking to town.

The only other thing I did today was work on the puzzle,
knit, and read.

Trying a new flavor ice cream for me this evening.
Turkey Hill S'mores
The label says

Chocolate
and toasted marshmallow.

Doesn't that sound good!!
Will let you know how I liked it tomorrow.

Wednesday

Walked inside in the morning and was outside walking around
in the afternoon so got all my miles walked.

Didn't have my phone when I was outside so sorry no pictures today.

It warmed up to the upper 30's, was windy, and the sun came out
so quite a lot of the snow melted.
Supposed to get cold over night with more snow so who knows
what tomorrow will bring.

David and Liz stopped by just as we were about to go out
so we put off going out till after lunch.
Didn't matter what time we left and it's always nice
to have them stop by just to see how we are.

After lunch we went for a drive to see how the roads were.
All clear and most of them even dry!
Stopped at the Shop and Save - we needed milk and bread!! 🙂
Ken had a book to pick up at the library so we stopped there too.

I finished reading Brave New World and didn't much care for that
one either - slightly better than 1984.
Ken is now reading Brave New World.

I'm now going back to finish reading The Pickwick Papers.
I know I like that book!!  🙂

That's all I have for today.

Clearing out the snow

No town walk because of all the snow.
First thing this morning walked 2 1/2 miles in the basement.
Got the rest of my steps in outside shoveling snow and walking around.

It was still snowing and windy but we had to get outside and
get the driveways cleared of the snow.
We both went outside right after breakfast.
Ken on the tractor and me with my shovel.
Don't know what we would do without the tractor!!
Sure makes things a lot easier.
I like to shovel snow but when there is a lot and it's heavy
not so much.

I mainly just cleaned up around the edges of the driveway with the shovel
after Ken went through with the tractor.
I also did the porch, in front of the garage doors and the deck out back.
The places the tractor can't go.

I was out when Tonya our letter carrier came along.
She said the main roads are good, but the side roads not so good.

We were out all morning.

Looking up the driveway.

Walking up the lane.
Couldn't go very far because after the tire tracts from the tractor
ended the snow was too deep for my boots.

Walking down the lane.

🌨    🌨    ☁️

After lunch it stopped snowing and was just cloudy for the rest of the day.

During the afternoon I knitted, read, and worked on the puzzle.
It was nice to be outside in the snow but I sure do appreciate
a nice warm cozy house too.

Thanks for stopping by.

A snowy day

 No walking outside today.
We have lots of snow with VERY windy conditions
so all my walking was done in the basement - all 6 miles in three sessions.

It snowed all day and with the wind making drifts it didn't make much sense
to go out and clear the driveway.
So that will be tomorrows job - will probably take us all day.

These pictures were taken at 2 this afternoon so the drift is even
bigger now!
A drift outside the back door.

Looking out the front door.

Looking out the window onto the porch.

🌨    💨    🌨    🙂

Took the jigsaw puzzle apart and got the dining room table
back to normal.
Looked around the house to see what I could use for a center piece
and came up with this.

That only lasted one day because today decided to start
another jigsaw puzzle.  This is one we've had a while and it's
been done a couple of times but I like the picture and it's a fun one to do.

Got some reading done, knitted and spent lot of time
looking at the window watching the snow.

That's been my day.
Hope your Monday has been a happy one. 😊

A pretty sunrise to start the day

This was the sunrise this morning.
Glad to be up and out to see this beautiful start to my day.

This morning when I walked it was 14 degrees, cloudy, and the
good news was that there was no wind at all.
With my warm coat on, it was actually nice out.

Walked around town, the ball park, and both cemeteries.
Didn't see anyone at all out - not even anyone walking to their car.

Still not sure what this building will be - a house or what.
I saw windows framed out yesterday but they haven't been cut out yet.

Walked 6 miles

☁️    🥾    😊

Another good day to have some nice hot oatmeal for breakfast.

Baked some German Chocolate Cookies this morning.
The recipe calls for a cup of chocolate chips and a cup of raisins,
but I put in 2 cups of chips and left the raisins out.
If you like chocolate you will like these cookies.

Finished the puzzle last night.
We both agree that it really was the hardest puzzle we've done.,
but it is such a pretty picture!

David and Liz came over for game night.
They came over late afternoon and we had so much fun
playing Mexican Train this time.
Played a while, took a break and ate pizza for supper
and then finished up the game.

This evening we will be watching a couple more episodes
of Downton Abby which I am enjoying.
Don't think Ken likes it as much as I do.
Also hope to get some weave-it squares made.
These are for my yellow and white bedspread.

Hope you enjoyed your Saturday. 😊

Foggy morning

A foggy start to the day with a temperature of 31 degrees
and just a slight breeze when I walked this morning.

Walked up and down the main road in town.

Then headed over to the industrial park and walked around there.

At the entrance to the industrial park is the barn that got
a new roof a few months ago.
Now it is getting new boards on it and one side is finished.

A few months back I saw a woman walking with her daughter
and we stopped for a little chat.
Today she was out walking with her dad.
She is a bit slow, or mentally challenged, or whatever we are supposed
to say now, but I'll just say she was a very nice young lady! 🙂
We stopped once again for a little chat.

When I got back to the Jeep still had a little bit to walk yet
so went down here and walked around the cemetery.

Walked 6 miles

☁️    🥾    😊

We went to the dump to drop off our trash,
stopped in at the Dollar General,
and picked up some books from the library.
We went in to get Ken's books and surprisingly my book,
Brave New World, that I put on reserve yesterday was there too.

Got some more of the puzzle done but it is going very slowly.
We are excited when we find a piece 🧩and have to announce it. 🤗
