Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Walking in the rain...

A rainy walk for me this morning.
It was 67 degrees, calm and it rained the whole time I was walking.
Since there was no wind I was able to use my umbrella and
it kept me almost dry!!
Walked 5.7 miles

Didn't see any one else outside at all.
Only people I saw were in cars.

Down at the Drane house it looks like the trees are getting trimmed.

Thought this was the first day of school here but didn't
see any school buses.
Since the Covid numbers are so high here now maybe school is back on line.

Though it was a wet walk, still nice to get outside and walk.

Food shopping day and got that over with right after breakfast.
Put all the stuff away and then got a meatloaf
started in the slow cooker.

A dreary, rainy day so we found things to do inside today.
I tried a new recipe this afternoon.
I made them for breakfast tomorrow morning but we had
to have one to see if they were any good.
Yes!!  They are delicious!!

I read this afternoon and played a few games of bubble shooter
on the computer.
A few more games than I wanted too!!!

I'll be working on making some weave-it squares this evening.
I already have 34 squares done. (need 70)

That's all I have for today.
A happy day to you. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by.

Found

62 degrees and cloudy this morning when I walked.
Sure looked like a storm was brewing but only a
few drops of rain fell - didn't even get wet.

Happy to see a rainbow this morning.

Driving to town a rabbit darted out in the road right in front of me.
Thought I missed it and then heard a thump as the back
wheel got the rabbit.  I felt so bad!!!!
Felt bad all over again on the way back home and saw
the rabbit in the road and 3 crows were eating it.
Well the crows need to eat.

Had a nice quiet random walk all over town.
Only person I saw was Joy.

The pumpkin is turning a nice orange at the day care center.
I check on it every day.

Two bulls were back in the barn yard this morning.
Thought maybe they had been sold but number 60 and 61 are still there.

The golden rod is now blooming.

I took 12,194 steps on my walk.

👟   👟

Starting my Garden Shed series of pictures today.
Number 1

🌼    🌼   🌼

Guess what I found?!
The missing puzzle piece.
🧩
It was in the office of all places just sitting there on the floor
next to my desk!

A trip to the quarry this morning to get a trailer full of
gravel for the Island.
Happy to say that one load was enough for the path.
It is turning out just how I pictured it.
The gravel will be more red in color like the other gravel
after it rains and washes the dust off.

Will fill in the other areas with different size rocks which we will
gather from our property.
Hopefully we will get a good start on that tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by.
A happy day to you. 🙂

Putting down the plastic

A foggy start when walking this morning
and then a mix of sun and clouds.
65 degrees and very still.
Walked 6 miles

Had a lovely very random walk all over the place around town.
I took quite a few pictures of garden sheds while I was walking
and have a nice collection of them to post starting Monday.

A quiet morning around town and the only person I saw out
was Rebecca walking her cute little dog Leo.

👟    👟    👟

Outside today working on the Island.
We finished with the chipper.
Then put down two rolls of plastic - still need one more roll.
Collected rocks and then lined the path with rocks.
Monday we will go get a load of gravel to put on the path.
The path comes from two different ways, meet and then
goes to a bird bath.

Afterwards it was nice to have a rest sitting on the porch,
cooling off with a diet Dr Pepper.

What felt really good was taking a shower!!
Sure thankful for running water!!

This evening I'll be reading, making squares,
and enjoying a dish of ice cream. 🍨

Thanks for stopping by.

Friday

🌤 A mix of sun and clouds when I walked.
It was 64 degrees with no breeze at all.
It was suppose to rain but it never did rain during my walk or all day.
Walked 6 miles

Walked straight through town and out the other side.
Turned around here because I don't like to walk along the
road there on the curve.

While out this way I walked around the industrial park
and then back through town to the Jeep.

Since I wasn't in town much didn't see anyone else out walking.
Didn't see any animals either.

My next series of pictures are going to be Back Yard Sheds and
will post the first one on Monday.
Thought about doing fire hydrants but they all look the same.
(at least they are all the same where I walk)
Red with a green top.

👟    👟    👟

No outside work again today but will get back to it tomorrow.

We took all our garbage to the dump.
Stopped in at the lumber yard in town to buy a couple rolls
of plastic to put down under the stone and gravel that we will
be putting on the Island.
Also stopped at the library to pick up a DVD and a book.

Made some weave-it squares, knitted a little and read.

We made homemade pizza for supper.
Our neighbor Ron, gave is a few tomatoes and we put
some on our pizza.
His garden has not done so great this year so it was really
nice of him to give us tomatoes.
In previous years he's given us bags and bags of them.

That's all for today.
Thanks for stopping by.

HTP - Funny you should mention Ken making a puzzle piece, because that is just what he is doing!! 😃

Vee - No, the puzzle piece hasn't shown up yet.  Yes, we have delightful summer weather. I always say, summers up here are like one long spring!

A missing piece

62 degrees and calm this morning when I walked.
It ended up sunny but started out foggy again.

This picture was taken facing east.

Walked around both cemeteries, the ball park and around town.
Walked up Sale Barn Rd a ways and by that time the sun was shining.

Saw a few deer up at the cemetery and they quickly
disappeared into the corn once they saw me.

Two people out this morning, Rebecca and Joy.

Walked 6 miles

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Took a rest day from working outside and got some inside work done.

We took our lunch and parked by the lake watching the boats
while we ate.
Then went for a little ride about before going home again.

We finished the bird puzzle.
Sorry to say a piece is missing but still hopeful that it will turn up.
That happens often.
It was a challenging puzzle but fun to do and I love the picture.

Even though we didn't need to cool off we still sat out on the
front porch for a while.
A thunderstorm came along and we went inside when
we started getting wet.

And so another day passes by.
Thanks for stopping by.
Count your blessings and have a happy day. 🙂

More Island Work

Another morning with patchy fog and then sunny.
It was 64 degrees and calm when I walked.
Sunrise 6:39
Walked 6 miles

Walked all around town, around the cemeteries and the ball park.
Didn't see anyone else out walking but I did see
Roger drive by in his new red truck.

All the bulls are gone and have been for the last few days.
I guess they have been sold.
I'm sure there will be more there again soon.

Very quiet around town.

A pretty Rose of Sharon bloom

Went outside this morning again and finished clearing the Island.
What a great feeling of accomplishment!!!

Ken went and harvested a bunch of rocks for me which I'll be using
to line a garden bed and a path in the Island.

Ken got the chipper going and we made a pile of chips
to put around the few plants that are already there.
We still need a little more but will do that tomorrow.
After working we had our usual cool down on the porch.

Here's today picture of the progress.

We quit working at 2:30, a little early today.
Before supper I got a little reading done and work on the puzzle.

That's been my day.
Thanks for stopping by.
Count your blessings and have a happy day. 🙂

The Last Mailbox and Island progress

62 degrees with early morning fog giving way to a sunny day.
A slight breeze.
Walked 6 miles

Once again I walked around town.
Saw Dwayne, Rebecca, Joy, and Margaret, who was walking with her husband.

Each morning I've been stopping to see how the pumpkin at the
day care center is doing.  Today I noticed that it is just starting
to turn orange.

Then I noticed a second pumpkin hiding under the top of the fence.

Mailbox Picture number 20 and the last of the series.
This poor thing needs some work.

I might do another series of pictures of the different
garden sheds around town.
Some are really cute.
Or maybe fire hydrants.

Shopping day at Stop and Save.

After putting away the groceries I went outside to do some more
work on the Island.  Didn't quite finish clearing but I'm sure
I will with one more session.

Ken neatened up the rocks at the point and put some dirt there,
then moved the trailer and mowed the weeds on the left.

The day zoomed by and I didn't do anything else
except sit on the porch, cooling off and drinking 7UP.

An easy supper this evening of hot ham and Swiss cheese
sandwiches with some potato chips.

It's been a good day and for that I am thankful.
Thanks for stopping by.

A coin, a pail, and a mailbox

A cloudy morning walk today.
64 degrees and no wind.
Sunrise 6:38
Walked 6 miles
It's been a while since I found any coins but this morning I found a quarter.
It was covered in dirt and grime and I couldn't tell what it was at first.
Cleaned it up some when I got home and realized,
Yes it was a quarter - a 2017 Ellis Island quarter.

Walked all over town like I usually do.
Went down to see the little horses in the pasture.

Someone put a plastic pail up on one of the posts along the road.
My gloves are across the road. :)

The only person I saw today was Joy and that was when I was
at the very end of my walk.

Got the bathroom cleaned this morning and
a bit of dusting done.

After lunch I went outside to work on my Island again.
This time I worked up from the other end.
I'm thinking maybe one more day maybe two till it is all cleared.

Nice once again to sit on the front porch and cool off before
going inside to read.
Had supper and now look forward to a nice quiet evening
and of course my dish of ice cream.

Thanks for stopping by.
Hope your day was a good one.

Bird Puzzle and Game Night

 60 degrees this morning.
It was foggy and very still.
The sun was shining and the fog was gone by the time I left for home
after walking around town.
Walked 6 miles

Walking up the hill to the cemetery.

The Drane house in the fog.

The sun shining through the fog.

Walking around the ball park I spotted this rabbit standing up and
looking in the woods.
This was as close as I could get before he ran off.
Can you see him in about the middle of the picture.

It was great weather for walking.
Dwayne, Lisa, Joy, and Sheila and her daughter were all out this morning.

After breakfast Ken went to the Dollar General on his own.
I stayed home to get some house stuff done.
A little behind schedule this week because of all the time I
spent working outside.

No work on the Island today - took a day off.
In the afternoon I read and worked on the bird puzzle.
This is what is done on it so far.

Game Night with David and Liz.
They came over for a homemade pizza supper
and afterwards we had fun playing 3 games of Yahtzee.

That's it for today.
Thanks for stopping by.
A happy day to you. 🙂

Good progress

68 degrees this morning when I walked, cloudy and very still.
Nice when near the end of my walk there was a little breeze.
Walked 6 miles

Once again I had a very nice walk around town.
Saw the man walking his dog.
Margaret was walking and Lisa was running.
When I got back to the Jeep I saw Sheila's car
but never saw her.

Most days I see a man who works for the town driving his truck
around town and we always wave or sometimes when
he's stopped doing some work we have a little chat,
but I've never known his name.
Today when we were talking he told me his name is Paul.
Joe used to have his job but he retired.
I see Joe going to the Rolling Pin for breakfast most days.

I'm pretty sure this is a walnut tree.

I spent a good part of the day outside working on the Island
and made pretty good progress so took another picture.
Uncovered an iris and some purple liatris.

This picture was taken from the top of the driveway.

Also found some hens and chicks and put them over here by the rocks.

I went outside and worked from 10:00 to 3:00.
Took time out for lunch and a couple of drink breaks.

Before supper I did some more on the puzzle.
Will work on it some more later.
It is a challenge but fun.
Will post a picture of it tomorrow.

That's all I have for today.
Thanks for stopping by.
A happy day to you. 🙂
