Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Tom and Jerry

Morning sun gave way to a cloudy afternoon.
Warmed up to 34 degrees so we have a little melting going on
but it will take a while for town to be good for walking.
In the meantime I walk inside and outside around the house.
Sunrise 7:32

Did a load of laundry.
Can only do one load a day because that is all
that fits on my drying rack.
Got started on my weekly house cleaning and changed a few small things around.
The little red table, two boxes, and the old sewing notions box I've
added to the corner.

Finished the latest puzzle.
This was a fun one to do and it was the first time we did it.

This week started a new kind of candy that Ken is putting out around
the house for me to find.
Two mini kitkats.
Today's find was on the old scale.

This is my last two pieces of Fiestaware.
The blue bowl is cream soup bowl
and the turquoise mug is called a Tom and Jerry Mug.

You are probably wondering why it is called a Tom and Jerry Mug.
It's not from the cartoon characters.
Tom and Jerry is an old fashioned term for drinking mugs
based on an alcoholic drink made with rum and eggs
that was popular back in the 1800's.

The Tom and Jerry is a warm, spicy, rum-based cocktail.
It consists of a batter made of stiffly beaten egg whites,
with egg yolks, butter, sugar, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla, and cinnamon folded back in. That batter is added to a mug and then rum,
Cognac, and warm milk are incorporated on top.

That's all for today.
Happy Monday and thanks for visiting.

I'd never heard of a 'Tom and Jerry Mug', not sure I would enjoy the drink, but an interesting read, thank you.

I like your chairs and that looks a good puzzle.

All the best Jan

I love your little corner. The chairs are classy and it looks very cozy!
I've enjoyed your Fiesta ware posts.
I've seen the Tom and Jerry mugs before but never knew what they were called and if I'd heard it I would have thought it was connected to the cartoon. "_
We are supposed to get an ice storm tomorrow. :( I'm hoping it doesn't come!

Have you ever had one of these Tom & Jerry's? Sounds good. OH, I LOVE the bowl with handles. Hot soup on a cold day. Your little red table adds such a cool pop of color amid the black & white. And I see you have a secretary desk. Yours is so cute! We have a tall one.

Sherry got here before I did tonight. Glad you stayed in but like me she admires you for the 1000 piece puzzles. She and J Jr just finished one and I think they decided 'never again'.
Stay warm, sent from a cool Florida....

The Tom and Jerry mixture sounds a lot like eggnog with Rum. Interesting that it dates back to the 1800's.
I wondered if Ken was still hiding sweet treats for you to find. Lovely idea.

Love those chairs. I see you have a rotary phone sitting on the table next to the one. Haven't seen one of those in a while.
I've heard of a Tom and Jerry but didn't know what was in it. Thanks for telling us.

I think I would have to pass on the Tom and Jerry with the raw eggs! But I'll take those cute chairs :) Your corner looks very cozy and inviting!

what adorable armchairs!! love them!

CANDY around the house??!! yikes.....we have, thankfully, gotten rid of all sweets out of the house for the winter (had WAY too much sugar during the holidays ) but you're giving me an idea for Valentine's Day.....:)

I love a good Rum and Coke with lime in the summer and a good Dark And Stormy in the winter months but not sure i'd like a tom and jerry. My fave rum is Spiced Captain Morgans and Kraken for the Dark and Stormies.

ENJOY the walks and the warmer temps. I've been lazy this week due to the bitter cold temps but today is a lot warmer here in eastern NY

Never owned any Fiesta Ware but as a child loved visits to aunts whose colorful Fiesta Ware made everything taste better. I was a shy child who adored my aunts.i always basked in their pulling out the Fiesta ware and serving tasty treats lc
