Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Sunday

Happy Sunday

We had LOTS of rain and wind last night
and all the drainage pipes and stones that we have been working on
worked great!!

and he delighteth in his way.

Though he fall,

One Fine Day

Another great morning starting out with a walk.
64 degrees, a mix of sun and clouds
and that nice breeze.

Walked to town and around the cemetery up on the hill
and then around town before heading back home again.

This made me smile as I walked by.
A quiet walk around town this early Saturday morning.
Didn't see anyone else out and about.

No deer this morning, but lots of rabbits.
πŸ¦‹     🐝     🐞
Made pancakes for our breakfast this morning.
Nice having them again cause it's been a while since I made them.

Ken went up to the tractor barn and brought the chipper down.
He did some chipping and put the wood chips around the lemon
grass and the asparagus.

I had to get a few things done inside the house and did them
as quickly as I could so I could get outside to my job of
clearing more brush out.

The wash dried super quick with the sun and the breeze.
They even felt warm like they had just come out of a dryer!

We took a break and went to Burger King and ate
spicy chicken sandwiches for lunch.
Stopped in at the Shop and Save before coming back home.

Then back outside.
It's been another great day for outside work.

Hope your day was a happy one.

Working outside

Watching the sun go down on Wednesday.
Have to walk down to the driveway now that the trees have leaves.

A very good work day at church yesterday doing Fingerprints.
Work went on from 9:00 to 7:30 with people coming and going
as they had time to work.
Got 7,126 Roman's books assembled, stapled, cut and boxed.
 πŸ™‚
This morning I walked to town, around the lower cemetery, then
through town and over to the ball park and walked that loop.
Made a stop at the old house and then went to the post office
to drop off a Netflix.
Then headed home.

The temperature was 62 degrees and calm.
Although this picture looks like it was foggy it was just a low
hanging cloud and once I walked through it there was sunshine.
At the old house the daisy garden has started to bloom.
The first two blooms.
As I was walking through town, Ken passed me in the car
on his way to breakfast with Edd.

Saw rabbits, a couple of deer, and a groundhog.
🌀     🌀

This morning we got the last two loads of gravel and finished
putting it over the drainage pipes out back and now
I'm happy to say that the job is finished.

Ken made some steps out of stone and here
I'm walking up them.
While he was finding the stones and making the stairs
I was once again clearing brush out back.

Thought you might like to see the progress I'm making.
This was taken a few weeks ago.
This was taken today.

Great working outside weather,
Sunny, with some clouds, a breeze and temperature in the 70's.

Think this evening I'll do a little reading and making
some weave-it squares.
Maybe even have some ice cream!! πŸ˜ƒ

Hope you made your day a happy one.

A couple more loads

60 degrees this morning when I started my walk at 6:30.
It was sunny with a slight breeze.
My cow neighbors were out early this morning.
Don't usually see them till I'm getting back home.
A nice pleasant walk to town.
Walked around both cemeteries and down by the barn with the bulls.
One of them was back today.  The reddish/brown one, 800.

Walked a loop around town and back home again.

Saw a killdeer running up the road.  They always make me smile.
They look like tiny road runners.
Why don't they just fly!

Rebecca was out walking.  Haven't seen her for a while.

When I walked up my driveway there was Ken sitting on the porch
waiting for me.
We ate breakfast (cereal) out there too.

Just finished breakfast and Craig came from the stone place
where we get gravel to give us an estimate on getting the lower driveway paved.
He took measurements and we will get a written
estimate in the mail.
We worked out back a while.
Ken getting ready things ready for another load of gravel
and me continuing on clearing brush and sticker bushes.
After lunch we went again with the dump trailer to get yet more gravel.
We should own stock in this place! πŸ™‚
I turned around and took this picture out the back window
of the truck when the guy was filling it up.
 Here is that load.
Dumped it out and went back for another load.

After raking out both loads this is what it looks like now.
One more load should be enough, but we ran out of time today.
Probably get the last load Friday.

Didn't have to worry about supper this evening.
Before church started this evening
we had supper there.
There was a potato bar set up by the teens who
are trying to raise some money.
I had a sweet potato with butter and brown sugar.

Tomorrow is a Fingerprint work day at church so I probably
won't have time to blog,
but I'll be back on Friday.
Hope your day was a happy one.

IvyGreen - Sorry forget to answer your question yesterday.  No, we don't want to rent the house.  Just want to be done with it.  It's a bit too far for a vacation rental. The lake is 10 miles away and people like to be on the lake.

More gravel

62 degrees this morning.
Windy and cloudy with a few peeks of blue sky.
Welcomed the wind because it kept me cool.
Walked to town, around both cemeteries, down to see the bulls, through town,
around the ball park loop, through town again and then home.
I walk in these same places often but walked them all this morning
and in that order because I wanted to check out the mileage.
It was 6.5 miles.
Both bulls are gone now and didn't see the horses either!

Saw quite a few deer, some rabbits, and a couple of chipmunks.
A dead snake was in the road and also a dead skunk.

Walking up the last hill near my house a deer
was walking up a little ways along the side of the road going about at fast
as I was.  She would stop once in a while to nibble on some leaves.
She ended up going in the woods behind my house.

🦌     🦌
Didn't have time to blog yesterday because we went to Staunton, Va
to deliver a pallet of finished Romans books and pick up another
pallet of ones to do.
It's pretty much an all day event doing that.
I knitted a wash/dish rag on the way.
🧢     🧢
Today we took the dump trailer and got a couple more tons
of gravel to bury another drainage pipe.
This time around back.

Ken is going to make some stone steps in the wall.
After lunch we both went to the old house to get the yard work done again.
I mowed and he trimmed.
Looks like we will still be doing that for a while!

Picked up a book at the library that was on hold for me.
The first book in a new series for me.
The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley.

Evening now and time for relaxing.
Haven't had ice cream for a while but will have some tonight.
Chocolate

Hope your Tuesday was a happy one.

A couple of verses

Isaiah 5:20 KJV
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil;
that put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
that put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.

Matthew 6:24 KJV
No man can serve two masters:

No Sale

Sure was nice to be walking in the sunshine this morning.
Temperature was 52 with a slight breeze.
For me walking weather doesn't get any better than that.
Walked to town and stopped in at the post office to drop some
mail down the mail slot.

Walked up the hill from the post office to the school
which is where I turned around and walked back home.
Stopped to talked to a friend of ours who lives on the road
down from the school.
He had just finished washing his 18 wheeler cab and was just
starting on his car and it was only a little after 7:00!!

Took this picture across the street from the school.
The arrow is about where our house is on the other side of that hill.
Walking across the fields it probably wouldn't even
be a mile, but walking home on the roads it is 3 miles.

Finally a nice day to get some laundry done and hung out on the line.
What a beautiful day. ☀️
We went with the dump trailer this morning to get another load
of gravel for burying another drainage pipe out back
but when we got to the quarry was closed.
We thought it was open half a day on Saturday.

The weather was great for being outside so we spent the day
working out back.
Ken on his tractor part of the time and we started a fire
and got some old scrap wood burned.
I did more clearing of our woods.
I've cut down a LOT of sticker bushes.
Since we haven't had homemade pizza in a while so we decided to
make some for supper this evening.
mmmm Ken makes a great pizza.

We had a bit of bad news this afternoon.
More of a disappointment.
The sale of the house didn't go through after all.
They pulled out of the deal
so we are back to square one.
Oh well, guess it wasn't meant to be.

Hope your Saturday was a happy one.

Another wet walk

Another walk in the rain.
55 degrees with lots a wind too.
This time it was raining when I left and rained the whole time.
Too warm to wear my rain coat and rain pants so just took my umbrella.
I tell you it was a job holding on to the umbrella with the
wind trying to blow it out of my hands or inside out.
My head stayed dry but that was about it.
Still I'd rather be out there walking than sitting in the house
wondering if I should have gone or not. πŸ™‚

Walked to town and up to the cemetery on the hill
and around there.
Then it was up and down some of the streets in town
before I headed back home again.

Only animal I saw today was a ground hog
running in his house on the side of the road.

Only took this one picture and it was at the end of my walk.
That's my driveway up there on the left.
🌧     ☔️     🌧
It was pretty windy the whole day but later in the day
the rain left and the sun came out and it was in the high 60's.
A good outside work day.
We went and got a load of gravel in the dump trailer
and buried the drain pipe.
More drainage work to do around back.
Hopefully tomorrow will be another good work day.

Here is a close up picture of our 'bear'. πŸ˜ƒ

That's it for today.
Hope your day was a happy one.

The deer and the hosta.

Just a cloudy morning when I started out on my walk.
64 degrees with a slight breeze.

Walked to town and around both cemeteries,
through town and back and then headed home.

Just me and the usual deer and rabbits and birds were about.

About 2 miles from home I felt the first rain drops.
Then a nice gentle rain for the next half mile.
Nice listening to the rain falling on the leaves.
THEN
the clouds let all the rain out at once and the rest of
the way home it rained.
I was soaked and dripping wet by the time I arrived home.
Ken was just coming down the road to rescue me but I was
already soaked so thanked him but continued walking home.
🌧     🌧
Didn't have to eat breakfast at home because it was Baby Blanket
day and we have breakfast there before we start on the blankets.
I had volunteered to bring breakfast this month.
While I was out walking Ken made
Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls for me to bring.
I cut up watermelon and cantaloupe and brought that too.
We all ate breakfast and then Marilyn
gave the devotional for this month.

Last month Crystal asked if I would show her how to make weave-its squares.
So Ken bought a weave-it loom on eBay for her
and today Crystal learned how to make them. πŸ™‚
She did well making the first one with only a couple of mistakes in it.
She will be a whiz at making them in no time!!

I planted hosta out back to see if the deer would eat it.
Last evening we were watching her out of the bedroom window when she found it.
Thought she would gobble it right down but she just ate a few leaves.

Didn't go out for pizza Monday but we did go this evening.
Not to Brenda's but to Ledo's

Never did see the sun today.

Hope your Thursday was a happy one.

A day to be outside

61 degrees this morning but no wind.
A cloudy morning with some low hanging clouds.
This picture taken at the end of my driveway
looking down into a cloud.
As I've done before here I am walking down into the cloud.
Walked out of the cloud and up the hill to town
and around both cemeteries.
Went down by the barn to see the bulls
this was the only one there, the black bull is gone.
But two of the horses were there with him today.
Today was the day for rabbits, they were all over the place this morning.
Saw some cute tiny ones too.

By the time I got home there were a few peeks of blue sky around.
🌼     🌼
Here is our 'bear' that lives near the side of our driveway.
The first time we saw it, it sure looked like a bear.
It is actually a tree stump!!
Surprisingly we had a nice sunny day for the most part.
Had a couple of rain showers but we worked around them.

Finished the measurements for the driveway that we started yesterday.

Ken still working on some drainage issues that are getting corrected.

I got some more work done on clearing the woods out back.
The deer and her fawn came by while I was out there.
They watched me, and kept their distance but then went about their
business of eating.  I was happy that they didn't ran away.
Hopefully they are getting used to us.

Hope your Wednesday was a happy one.

Quess what I saw while walking?

Back to walking this morning.
All day seemed out of kilter for me yesterday not having walked
so sure glad to get my walk in.
Though it was 64 degrees it felt cooler than that because
of the wind.  A few sprinkles of rain at first when I left but it didn't
amount to much and most of my walk it was just cloudy.

Walked to town and through town to the old house.
Then back through town around the lower cemetery.

Didn't see any deer today but on the way home I saw a BEAR.
It is the FIRST one I've seen WALKING.
It ran across the road out of the woods to
the other side of the road and into the woods.
Didn't even have time to be scared, it happened so fast.
That is a good way to see a bear!!
🐻     🐻
Went out after breakfast to Lowe's to return a dehumidifier
that quick working after less than a year.
It was under the warranty and happy to say we got our
money back.  Was going to buy another but then decided to
see about getting one that is hooked up to the furnace.
So we stopped in at the place that installed our furnace here at the house
to ask about it.
The man we talked to was one of them who installed our furnace
and remembered our house.
Anyway we decided to go ahead and do it.

Next stop Walmart to get our food shopping done.

Had periods of rain while we were out but it stopped
once we got home.
We are going to have our driveway paved and we went outside
to measure and see exactly what we want paved before we
call for an estimate.
Didn't quite finish before the rain came
so we sat on the porch and watched it rain for a while.

Ken cooked supper this evening. πŸ™‚
A delicious stir fry.

I've started making squares for the next baby blanket.
This will be a green and white gingham one.

Well that's about it for today.
Hope your day was a happy one.

A day off

A rare day when I don't take a morning walk and this was one of those days.
Woke up late at 7:20 and it was dreary and wet
and just decided to take a day off.

Got some house work done and then worked on
the yellow gingham bedspread.
Nine strips of 24 squares are now done and sewn together.
 15 more strips to go.

Ken took a video of the deer and her fawn
out back by the arched stone bridge.
Ones goes over and one goes under.
Tried to post it here but blogger said it was too big
so it is on youtube
and you can see it HERE.

Nice to see a little sun today even if it was late in the day.
Hope your day was a happy one.

Ken's back home

No rain, no wind, no sun and 55 degrees this morning
when I left on my walk.
Had a book to return to the library so walked to town and
and put it down the book drop.
Walked around town and half way up to the school before turning around
and heading back home.

A couple of deer were around, some chipmunks,
and many birds.
Always nice to hear the birds chirping as I walk.
They keep me company. πŸ™‚

The corn in this field near my house is now about 18 inches high.
Walked my usual 6 miles
🌽     🌽
Didn't get very far last night in the book I started,
The Storyteller because I realized that I had already read it.

Haven't done all that much today.
Got some laundry hung up outside and
just did this and that around the house.

Ken arrived home safely early afternoon.
He had a great few days with the guys!!
Nice to have him back home again. πŸ˜ƒ

A giant caterpillar

45 degrees, very windy, and drizzly when I left on my morning walk.
The drizzle soon stopped and the rest of the walk was just cloudy.

Walked to town again and around both cemeteries.
Farmer Marvin has that giant white caterpillar crawling along his farm again.
At least that is what it looks like to me! πŸ˜€
Saw a deer.  It startled me jumping out of the brush along the
road in front of me.
A wild turkey flew low over the road
and farther up there was
turkey buzzard in the road eating a rabbit.
Know they have to eat too but I felt sorry for the rabbit.

Didn't walk around town after the cemeteries and just headed back home.
So walked up the lane a ways to make up the 6 miles.
 πŸ„     πŸ„
It stayed windy and cool all day but the sun did eventually came out.

I volunteered to bake cookies for the kids at Bible Time.
A LOT of cookies are needed and there are others baking them too.
We each will bake 20 dozen and this morning I baked 10 dozen of them.
Will bake the other half next week.
Luckily they freeze well.

Finished reading Nineteen Minutes.
Another book by Jodi Picoult.
This one was very good too.
About a 17 year old who was bullied and comes to school with a gun.
Will start another Jodi Picout book this evening.
The Storyteller

Watched the deer in the back again with her fawn.
More pictures out of the window.
They seem to like the place I've been clearing out back.
They come by often.
We set up the game camera back there.
Maybe we'll get some good pictures.
I've enjoyed my couple of days home alone while Ken has
been gone and got lots of stuff done around the house.
Glad he is coming home tomorrow though, I'm missing him!
