Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Mantel or Mantle ?

28 degrees this morning, cloudy, with a few snow flurries floating around.
The main road was clear and the side streets were snow covered
but with only a dusting.
I wore my Yaktrax and was fine walking in the snow.

Walked up and down the main road, the cemeteries and the ball park.

Went down to see the bulls and here's my friend I named Spot.

I saw rabbit, deer, bird, and some small animal tracks in the snow.
Didn't see Roger but saw his truck in the parking lot
and then saw his and Andy's (dog) tracks in the snow around the ball park.

I stopped in places and made happy faces in the snow.

After a day of walking in the house it is especially nice to
walk outside again.

Walked 6 miles

Santa is the next Christmas decoration on the way through town.
He hangs in front of the car dealer.

☁️    🙂    ☁️

Did the usual house chores in the morning.

Late morning I baked a cake for Liz's birthday tomorrow.
Her two favorite cakes are
Cheese Cake and
Yellow Cake with Chocolate Icing.
Since we just had a cheese cake for Ken's birthday I went ahead
and made the Yellow Cake.
Looking forward to eating a piece tomorrow!!

?   ?   ?

Mantel ? or Mantle ?
Thought you might be interested in the spelling.

13 people mentioned my mantel in comments yesterday.
4 people spelled it Mantel and
9 people spelled it Mantle.

When I was typing my post yesterday I wrote mantle but it didn't look right,
but mantel didn't look right either so I looked it up.

Mantel is the spelling for over a fireplace.

Mantle is a cloak or covering.
Mantle is also transfer of power from one to another.
And also Mantle is a thick layer of rock inside the planet.

⛅️
We saw a little bit of sunshine this afternoon and it
did warm up and all the snow is gone again.

That's it for today.
Thanks for stopping my.
Hope your Tuesday was happy one. 🙂

Christmas Mantel

It was 24 degrees and snowing when I drove to town for my walk.
I didn't stay though and came home again to walk inside.
The main road was fine but the sidewalks and side streets
had a coat of snow and I was afraid of hidden ice.
Most very time I've fallen have been in these conditions.

So today it was a 6 mile walk in the basement split in three times.

🛤 This is the cemetery I walked passed today. 🚂

🌨    🙂    ☁️

The Stocking Christmas decoration in town hangs by the other
church in town.

We went to the Dollar General this morning and also
dropped off a book at the library.

Have been making weave-it squares for the baby blanket for December.
Kelly Green
Lime Green

Afternoon brought a bit of sunshine with it. ⛅️

I cleared off the mantel and decorated it with my little village
and some other Christmas things.
It looks a lot nicer in the evening when it's dark.

Another day zooms by.
Plan on reading and sewing some squares together this evening.

Thanks for stopping by.
A happy Monday to you. 🙂

Wreath in the mail

20 degrees this morning and cloudy when I went for my walk.
A bit windy too.
Pretty much stayed on the main road through town.
Quite a few of the side streets looked like this,
so didn't go walking on them.

This road goes to the lower cemetery up there on the left.

Didn't see anyone else out walking.
Kermit was out getting the ice off his car and I stopped
to chat a bit.  He said I looked nice and warm and I assured him
I was in my nice warm coat.
Actually I was a bit warm.

Stopped to write happyone in the snow.

Walked 6 miles

The next Christmas decoration hanging up in town is a Snowman
and he hangs in front of the bank.

☁️    🙂    ☁️

A surprise arrived in the mail from a long time blogging friend, Tom.
He makes beautiful Christmas wreaths and I was one of the lucky
ones that he made one for.
It is the first Christmas decoration that we've put up.
Hung it inside above the mantel and not on the outside front door because
this way I can look at it more often.
It is made of cedar, red winterberries, lotus pods and white pine cones.
Isn't it beautiful!?
I love those lotus pods.

Thank you so much Tom for your kindness.

🙂    ❤️    🙂

The day turned out to be sunny a one though it did stay cold.
Our driveway was a bit icy and Ken went out and put some salt down.

I had some more turkey leftovers for lunch and that's going to be
it for turkey leftovers for me.
Still a little turkey left and I shredded it and put it in the freezer.
Will be good to put in quesadillas.

Did some more reading and knitting this afternoon.

After eating turkey for days,
we are having good old home pizza for supper this evening.
Ken is making it as I type this.

Thanks for stopping by.
A happy day to you. 🙂

Ice Cream Puzzle

My 6 mile walk today was done in the basement.
It was 25 degrees out and very windy.
Rain overnight turned into snow.
Not a lot of snow but thought there might be ice under the snow
that I wouldn't be able to see.
Thought it would be saver to walk inside.

The fifth town Christmas decoration down the road is a reindeer.

A pretty lazy day around the house.
Ate leftovers from yesterday throughout the day.
I read, knitted, and got a jigsaw puzzle started.
This one should be a fun one.

Short post but that's all I have for today.

Thanks for stopping by.
Hope your day was a happy one. 🙂

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving

 Psalm 95:2
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving,
and make a joyful noise unto him with pleasure.

🦃    🦃

40 degrees this morning and cloudy when I walked.
Calm and very quiet around town.

Walked up town streets, both cemeteries and the ball park.

Saw both Joy and Rebecca out getting their early morning walk in too.

After the corn was cut down in the field there was lots of it left.
I saw today that it was rolled up and corn bales were made out of it.

I walked into the field to take this picture.

Walked 6 miles
Found a nickel and a penny.

The next decoration down the road it town is a wreath.

☁️    🙂    ☁️

A pretty relaxing morning because I did most everything yesterday.

We had a lovely Thanksgiving!
So very nice to have everyone gathered around the table
enjoying not just the food but being thankful for
all we have.

I wrote out place cards for each person and wrote why I am
thankful for them and set the cards on their plates.

Liz was a tremendous help with everything which made
things so much more relaxed.

It's been a great day, everything is washed up and put
away and now I'm just going to read and have a nice quiet evening.

Thanks for stopping by.
Hope your day was a good one. 🙂

Frozen Puddles

Nice when the sun rose and I got to walk in the sunshine.
It was 22 degrees but very still.

Walked first to the library to drop of a DVD, then on
through town and around the ball park loop once.
Continued walking down the main road to where the curve is.
Went up this farm driveway a little ways before turning around
and walking back to town.

On the way back I took a quick walk around the industrial park.
Then back through town and around the cemetery on top of the hill.
Walked around there a few times because it was so nice to be
in full sunshine.  Joy was there too doing the same thing!!

Always like to see the designs in the frozen puddles.

The Amish men are finishing up the roof job on the church this morning.
They were doing the sign out front and the roof over the door entrance.

Driving back home I saw a couple of wild turkeys. 🦃
They should be in hiding with it being Thanksgiving tomorrow. 🙂

Walked 6.2 miles

Today's decoration is an Angel and the last one with the
 church in the picture.

☀️    🙂    🦃

This morning was baking time in the kitchen.
Baked cookies and pies.

In the afternoon I had fun setting the table.
I know it is early but just like to look at it for a while.
Tomorrow it will be nice to see the table filled with all good things to eat.

Read again this afternoon.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit.
🙂 Hope your day was a happy one filled with sunshine. ☀️

Deb - Yes, still reading the Ken Follett book - a little more than half done.  Ken finished it so quickly because all he did for two days was read! : )
No, the church in town is not the one we go to.  Our church is located in Oakland, 20 miles away.

Victor - No, have never been inside the church in town.

Tuesday

20 degrees this morning when I went walking.
It was calm though and once the sun rose it stayed around.
When the temperature gets down in the low 20's I don't wear all
those layers but put on my VERY WARM coat.
Just wear a sweatshirt underneath.
Can't wear it when the temperature is any warmer or it is just too warm.
It was perfect for today's walk.

Had my usual walk around town, the cemeteries and the ball park.

Joy was out walking too.
Last week she mentioned that she couldn't find gloves to
keep her hands warm.  I told her what I do - tuck my hands up my sleeves.
Today I noticed she wasn't wearing cloves but had her hands
tucked up her sleeves.
She said her hands were nice and warm. 🙂

Walked 6 miles

Today's town decoration is a Candy Cane.
Was going to crop it but since a lot of you liked the church
in the picture yesterday I kept it in today too.

If you look closely you can see the next decoration down the road
which will be tomorrows picture.

⛅️    🙂    ⛅️

I spent most of today cleaning the house.  Wanted to get most
things done so I can have tomorrow for baking.

Ken went food shopping on his own this morning so I could get
started right away on cleaning.

It is usually just the two of us for Thanksgiving.
This year it will be so nice having David and Liz here with us.
A friend of David's (Another Dave) will be coming up from
Asheville and spending the day here with us too.
I'm so looking forward to Thanksgiving and I'm so thankful!!

By mid afternoon I was glad to stop cleaning and take some
time to read.  My book is VERY GOOD.

Thanks so much for stopping by.
Hope your day is a happy one. 🙂

Uniontown, Pa

36 degrees and cloudy this morning for walking.
Pretty windy too.
I walked 6 miles.

Walked up and down the streets in town and over to the
industrial park and walked around there.
Once around the ball park and back to the jeep.

Every year the town puts up Christmas decorations
along the main road on the telephone poles
and they were all up this morning.
Each day I'll post one of them.
Today is a Christmas tree

I didn't see anyone else out walking this morning.

That old house that had the growing vegetation cleared away
from it might just be getting a renovation!
Yesterday I saw someone upstairs by a window and today
I noticed all the broken window panes have been fixed or
boarded up so nothing is open to the weather now.
I'll be keeping an eye on it.
Would be great if it could be fixed up again!!

It was mostly cloudy walking but the sun peaked out for a few
minutes and then it got dark and looked like rain.
A block away from the Jeep and it started raining
and when I got home it had turned into little frozen balls of snow.
Happy to say it didn't last more than 10 minutes.

☁️    🙂    ☁️

Thought I'd end the bench series of pictures with my own
three benches in the house.

Ken made this one back in 1991

This one came from an auction that we got for just $1.

And this last one was my mothers.

🦃    🦃

We went to Hobby Lobby and Home Depot in Uniontown today.
Picked up a couple of Poinsettia plants,
one for me and one for Liz.
Also bought my Christmas cards for this year.
Don't send many out but still do like to give out some.

While in Uniontown we went through the drive thru at Wendy's
and got spicy chicken sandwiches for lunch.

Nice to get out and go somewhere besides food shopping!!
The sun made it out and we had a very nice day though
it was windy and the temperature dropped during the day.

This afternoon I read and started knitting again on the
white blanket that I started quite a while ago.
It is baby sized blanket and not sure what I'll do with it.

That's all for today.
Thanks for stopping by.
Hope your day was a happy one. 🙂

Forgot to mention gloves when posted about all the layers I wear when walking and a couple of people asked about them. I don't wear gloves or mittens - they actually make my hands cold. I tuck my hands up inside my sleeves and that keeps my hands nice and toasty.  The only time my hands get cold is when I take my phone out to take a picture!

Count Your Blessings

 Happy Sunday

A Sunrise

A Sunset

A Morning Moon

☁️    🙂    ☁️

🎶 Count Your Blessings 🎶
Words - Johnson Oatman in 1897
Music - Edwin O Excell

1. When upon life's billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Refrain:
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your blessings, see what God hath done;
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.

2.Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, ev'ry doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by.

3. When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings, money cannot buy
Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.

4. So, amid the conflict, whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey's end.

🎶    🎶

📖 Colossians 3:17 📖
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.

A Blessed Sunday to all.

Another Bench

25 degrees this morning for walking with a light wind
and a mix of sun and clouds.

The morning moon

Walked around both of the cemeteries first and then to see the bulls.
Then headed up the hill to the school and then back to town.
Twice around the ball park and back to the Jeep.

No one else out walking, as least no one that I saw.

The bulls are in frozen mud again with some hay mixed in.
The picture on the bottom is taken of the barn where the
bulls are but from the other road as I'm walking up to the school.

Walked 6 miles

Yesterday I said was the last bench picture but I came across
this so took one more.
This was in the back of the school by the playground.
Looks more like a couch than a bench but just couldn't resist.
I thought of you Victor - it's a good size to take a nice long nap. 🙂

⛅️    🌕   ⛅️

I've read a bit this afternoon of my book
The Evening and the Morning and like it a lot.
It is set in the year 997.
I enjoyed the trilogy and this one is just as good.

We bought a 7 pound turkey breast for Thanksgiving
and on the packaging it gives the directions for cooking in the slow cooker.
Sounds like a good idea and I'm going to give it a try this year.
Have any of you ever tried cooking a turkey this way before?

That's all I have for today.
Thanks for stopping by.
Hope you enjoyed your Saturday. 🙂

Walking Clothes

This morning it was 30 degrees colder than yesterday at the same time.
When I walked it was 24 degrees, pretty windy and once the sun
rose there was a mix of sun and clouds.

Had a very random walk all over town up and down all the streets.
Walked to the library and dropped a book down the slot.
Never made it to the cemeteries or ball park.

Nice to see Joy out there in the cold too
and to know I'm not the only crazy person! 😀

There is another too small to walk around cemetery along Flat St in town.
I walked in the cemetery today looking at the head stones.
Some you can read but such a shame
that most of them you can't read anymore.

This one has a small pipe next to the headstone.
Looks like an air hole.
Maybe John was afraid of being buried alive and asked to have
the air hole there just in case.
Anyhow it gave me a chuckle.
It is probably really there to hold a flower or a flag.

Walked 6 miles

This is the last bench in the Bench Series that I've taken along my walk.
Tomorrow I'll end with three more benches that are in my house!

⛅️    🙂    ⛅️

Some of you wonder why I'm not cold when I walk in this weather.
You wouldn't be cold either if you wore all the layers I do.
I put them all out on my bed to show you.
A Long sleeve turtle neck T shirt
2 long sleeve underwear tops
Two hooded sweat shirts for a total of 5 layers.

Long underwear bottom
Shorts
Jeans

On my head is a ski mask and the two hoods from the sweat shirts.
All these layers keep me nice and warm.
I must weigh 10 extra pounds with all this on and it takes
a while to put it all on and take off.

👕 👖 🧦 🧣

Spent some time in the kitchen today.
Made Dill Bread in the bread machine to go with
the Broccoli Cheese Soup we had for supper.

Also made some bar cookies which are called
Multiple Choice Bar Cookies.
Take a look and get the recipe HERE.

Found some time for reading this afternoon.
Started
The Evening and the Morning by Ken Follett,
The prequel to The Pillars of the Earth.
Ken read it first and finished it in a couple of days. (966 pages)

That's all for today.
Hope you made your day a good one. 🙂

50 things

This morning was even warmer than yesterday.
54 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds that quickly turned
to just clouds.  Quite a wind blowing up too.

Had a quiet walk around town, once around the cemeteries,
the ball park, and over to and around the industrial park.
Saw Margaret and Joy walking but at a distance.

The tiny horse was down near the bulls, and though
she wouldn't look at me I took a picture anyway.

Walked 6 miles

Bench Number 17
Taken by the Firefly, the place in town where they make cheese.

I peeked in the window at the store in its new location
and it is really nice inside.
Now it has room to have some tables inside and it all looks
nice and neat and tidy.

☁️    🙂    ☁️

Left for church right after breakfast for a work morning
of Blankets for Babies.
Handed in my latest blanket and started the one for next month.
There were 8 of us working today.
Someone brings breakfast and then another
gives a short devotional.
I ate breakfast at home so didn't eat anything.
Since it is Thanksgiving month, last time it was suggested
that we all tell something we are thankful for this time in place
of the devotional.
Instead of just naming one thing I thought I'd be different and made a list of 50 things I am thankful for.
Here's my list in no particular order except for number one
which I am MOST THANKFUL for.
Here is my list.

On the way home from church it started to rain and has been
raining the rest of the day.

Had lunch when I got home and then made a few more
weave-its and read.

Seemed like a good day for pizza so I got some pizza
dough made in the bread machine and as usual
Ken made the actual pizza.

Last night I finished knitting Ken his neck scarf that is just
a knitted cap without the top.
The first one I made didn't turn out, the yarn was too
stretchable and was soon out of shape.
This one I made is just right.
You can see it HERE.

Well that's going to be it for today.
Hope your day was a good one. 🙂

Wednesday

Warmed up quite a bit since yesterday morning.
Walking this morning it was 47 degrees, calm and cloudy.
Wore too many layers and had to take some off!!

Walked all around town as usual, and the cemeteries and
the ball park.
Joy was out walking also and we had a short chat in the cemetery.

Block as been delivered behind the bank as work continues
on the drive thru.

Saw a deer running through the field where the corn was.
The poor bulls are in quite a bit of mud now that it warmed
up again.  I couldn't even walk up to the fence because of the mud.
Farmer Marvin did put a bunch of hay down for them though.

Walked 6 miles

Bench Number 16
This one sits in the lower cemetery

☁️    🙂    ☁️

Sun came out later in the morning with a nice breeze so
got the sheets washed and hung out to dry.

Went out late morning to drop off our garbage at the dump.
There are 3 different dumps we can go to and we went to the
one in Grantsville this time.  First time we've been there.
We wanted to stop in at Candy Land which is in Grantsville too.
Candy Land has rows of bulk candy that you buy by the pound.
I usually stay away from that part of the store but Ken spends
some time picking out a bag of candy.
Fruits and vegetables are sold there too on the other side of the store.
They have spices and some speciality items too.
I should have taken a picture inside the store.
Next time I will.
We there today for Granny Smith apples to make either a pie or
an apple crisp for Thanksgiving.

We were home for lunch and then made another trip out
to go to the library.
Ken checked out two books and I got one.

After being out two times today I didn't feel like
doing work around the house so read and knitted.

Thanks for stopping by.
Hope your day was happy and bright. 🙂
