Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A finished bathroom

My day started with a nice, sunny, cool walk down my connect the path route. Only saw a few people out walking and a couple riding their bikes down a path.

I gave the little downstairs bathroom another coat of paint this morning. Later when the paint was dry, I peeled off the blue painters tape. (which was fun!) Then I gave the whole bathroom a good cleaning before putting everything back together and moving everything back in. Boy there sure is a lot of stuff in just one little bathroom!! I am pleased with how it turned out. The color is darker than it looks in the picture. It was hard to take a picture of such a tiny room.

I finished reading three more books of the cat series by Lilian Jackson Braun.
The Cat Who Saw Red
The Cat Who Played Brahms
The Cat Who Played Post Office
All three were in one book. They are a bit silly but fun to read.
This makes 32 books I've read this year so far as June comes to an end and I'm at the half way point. I have a LibrayThing Challenge to read 75 books this year. Doesn't look like I'm going to make it. I'll only have 64 if I keep on going the way I am. Well I guess that's why they call it a challenge. :-) I have a running total of all the books I've read so far on the side bar of this blog.

I was all set to go to the Fabian House in Bowie, where they sell the Polish pottery and decided to check what time they opened. I'm sure glad I checked because they were closed! So I guess I'll go there tomorrow.

After I ate supper I went for a little stroll around the neighborhood, picked up the mail and mailed out a couple of things.
Once back home, I sat out on the deck and knitted until it started raining.
I had chocolate chip cookies again for my snack.

I'll be playing Sims 3 again tonight. Last night I played until 11:45.

Hope you got to do something fun today.
Happyone :-)

A busy day

Yesterday I took the day off from walking - and yes I felt like something was missing all day long. We went over to the old house in the morning and got some yard work done. I mowed the lawn and did some more of that never ending weeding. Ken got out the power washer and cleaned the deck and all the sidewalks. WOW, what a difference!

Today I got back to my walking and it sure was a nice morning for walking. Sunny with a breeze. I walked around the lake and took this picture along the way.
There were way too many people walking around the lake and I think the rest of the week I'll walk the paths around the neighborhoods.

It was a meals on wheels day for me. Things were a bit behind today and the meals hadn't been packed yet when I got to the kitchen. That's okay though because then I all get to talk to all the other volunteers. Two of my people were off today so I had 7 people on my route. I took along some chocolate chip cookies I baked for Mrs. P. I can't do that for everyone one though because some of them are on a no sugar diet.

I ate lunch when I got back home and then I started on the little downstairs bathroom painting job. Ken taped it all off yesterday for me. I got the first coat done and I really like the color. I could probably get away with the one coat but I'm going to put a second coat on tomorrow morning which should go on pretty quickly. I like the green color and I think it goes well with the pink towels and other pink things that are in there. I did a lot of climbing up and down on the ladder and I figured that counted as a workout so I didn't do my exercise DVD! :-)

I walked around the neighborhood on my own this evening because Ken went to Virginia for a few days to take a class for work. I didn't find any nails today!
I sat out on the deck and read for a little while.
Then I went inside to watch a Seinfeld and ate 4 chocolate chip cookies and a glass of milk.
Now I'm going to play Sims3 until it times for bed.

Linda asked about the game Sims3 that I bought for my computer. I thought maybe others didn't know what it was either so I've posted this so you can see just what it is. If you buy it be careful - it is addicting!!

I hope your Monday was a good one and you had many reasons to smile today.

Enjoy Yourself

Ecclesiastes 2:24 There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink and make himself enjoy good in his labor. Even this, I have seen, is from the hand of God.
There are always things that we have to do but God wants us to enjoy ourselves too. He wants us to be happy. Take time today to enjoy what God has given you. A happy Sunday to you all. Happyone :-)

Christmas in June

I started the day out as usual with my morning walk. Another hot day and I walked on a couple of paths and on streets. I was going to have a shorter walk today but ended up walking 5.9 miles anyway. :-) It's hard to cut it short!!!

I made us French Toast for breakfast instead of the pancakes we usually make on Saturday. Then later in the morning we left to do some errands.
Stopped in at the library. Just dropped a few things off. I didn't get anything out because I'm still reading books that I've already checked out.

It was Christmas in June for me today!! :-)
First we went to Best Buy and I got the new Sims3 game for my computer. My granddaughter Taryn has it and loves playing it. Ken got one too and I've been watching him play it and it looked like so much fun that I decided to get one too. The time seems to fly by when playing that. Just what I need - something else to keep me busy. :-)

We went to the mall and I got a few new kitchen tools. After watching Lidia's Italy so much and starting to cook like her I just had to have a few of the kitchen tools she uses.
Tongs - so much easier to use than a fork for turning things over. The food always slips off my fork.
A Spider - comes in handy to lift the different kinds of pasta out of the water.
A dough cutter - great for cutting the dough into smaller pieces for rolls. Also for picking up lots of diced vegetables at one time.

Next stop was the Apple Store and I got a brand new MacBook Pro computer. Lucky me!!
And then I needed something to carry it around in so I got this Vera Bradley computer tote!
When we got home I set up the new mac and got the Sims3 installed and I was ready to get started.
This is my first Sims3 person I created on my new computer. :-)
After supper we took our stroll around the neighborhood, checking out the work that got done today and picking up more nails.

Watched a Netflix (London Blitz), had some ice cream and knitted. Then back to playing Sims3 and here I am now at just past 11:30. I'll be going to bed as soon as I'm finished. Good-Night all.

I hope you had a fun Saturday.
Happyone :-)

A hot sticky

morning walk today as I walked around the neighborhoods. I walked past an older woman and she started talking to me so I stopped to chat with her. She was saying how fast the cars were going - much faster than the 25 mile limit. She told me to be careful crossing the streets. :-) I told her to do the same as I continued on my way.

I got my new flannel sheets in the mail yesterday and today I washed them. I did put them in the dryer for a bit so I could get most of the lint off. Red flannel sheets have more lint than you can imagine!! I washed them a second time, put them in the dryer for a little bit for the second time and then finally hung them outside to dry all the way. The nice 15 inch wide fitted sheet fit perfectly on the mattress and that makes me happy!!
By the way - They smell good too. :-)

I walked over to the very conveniently placed Giant this morning and picked up a few things for supper and remembered to bring my own insulated bag. I'm getting real good now a days remembering to take it with me. :-)

Trucks and vans parked all up and down the streets again. They took down the fence all around the working area by the townhouse row in front of ours so they can do the landscaping. They also started leveling the land for the last row of 5 units to be built by us. Then there is just one more row of 8 to be built over by the model which is on the other side so we will be out of the way. Yay!!

Painting is in the very near future for me. We bought some green paint for the little bathroom downstairs and that will be my project for next week. Ken said he would tape it off for me. I never do that - I just paint neatly!! The color I chose is called Greenfield.

After supper we walked around the neighborhood as we do most evenings picking up nails out of the road that the workers dropped. I wonder how many people we have saved from getting flat tires!

Watched a couple of episodes of Fraiser tonight and I had chocolate chip ice cream for my snack.
Well that's my Friday! Hope you enjoyed your day!
Happyone :-)

At Home Today

Another great walking morning with a blue sky and just a few of those nice white puffy clouds. It was such a nice walk around the lake today. There are many people out walking or running lately. It's always like that when the mornings are so pretty. It's nice to see others out but I think one reason I like walking in the rain once in a while is because I have the lake almost to myself. :-) Sometimes there are just too many people out around the lake. There are never as many people along the neighborhood paths and on some of those mornings even now I'll only pass a couple of people. I've met a couple more people in the last few days along the neighborhood paths. A woman named Kerri and her golden retriever named Tequila and another woman Susan with a small dog named Oscar. I wonder when I met people for the first time if we will just remain casual acquaintances who have a few words to say to each other in the morning or if we will become friends. You never know!

I was thinking about going out in the car just because it was such a nice morning but I looked down my street and this is what I saw. I would have had to ask a couple of the workers to move their vans so I could get out of my street. The wood you see down on the left is in the road and the white van is parked at the curb. Not much room to get by there. I didn't HAVE to go anywhere and so I just stayed home. The workers just park where ever they want to and don't worry about the people who actually live here. I knew it would be like this when we moved in for a while so I really shouldn't complain and it won't last forever. I was talking to one of my neighbors and he said there are only 4 more townhouses left to buy and all the building should be done by December.

So I stayed home and did a little baking. I baked some bread - just regular white bread this time. Also I had some more bananas that were ALL brown so turned them into banana bread again. :-) I'm going to have to start buying less bananas at a time or eat more of them. Though I really do like banana bread!! As I baked and then cleaned up the kitchen I listened to the audio book All Creatures Great and Small.

For the rest of the morning I sat out on the deck and did some knitting. I am so glad we have the deck because I love sitting out there. The deck is all in the shade in the morning and the sun doesn't cover the whole thing until the middle of the afternoon. On a hot day it is too hot to sit out there then. Once 7:00 comes around though, its nice to sit out on the deck again. That's when the sun slowly slides down behind the other side of the townhouse row across the way.

I had a piece of the white bread with peanut butter on it and a slice of banana bread for lunch. Both were yummy!

I have some things I have to get done around the house so off I go to do them and then I'll sit and read until it's time to start dinner.

Enjoy the rest of your Thursday!
Happyone :-)

My Connect a Path walking route

A while ago I posted my walk Around the Lake route in pictures.
Today I'm posting my Connect the Path route in pictures.
I walked this route yesterday and took all the pictures.
Today I walked the same route but in the other direction.
Come along with me now on my walk.
One
This is the start of the first path and
it is just under one mile from my house.
Two
When I get to the end of path up ahead I cross the street
and walk a block.
Three
I turn left here and walk a couple of blocks.
Four
Then turn down this path and walk until
Five
I come out here in back of a school.
Six
Behind the baseball field
Seven
I pick up a path and walk down here.
Eight
Past this little playground keeping to the right.
Nine
I walk along to the end of this path
Ten
and walk along the road for a few blocks.
I cross the street here and start down another path.
Eleven
When I get to the T, I turn right
Twelve
and it comes out here.
I cross the street and start down another path.
Thirteen
I continue along
Fourteen
and keep to the left.
Fifteen
As I come along the path here I stay to the right
Sixteen
and walk up here.
It takes me to a road and I walk to the top of a little hill,
turn left and walk a couple of blocks
Seventeen
and start down the path here.
This is 3 miles from home and the half way point.
Eighteen
At this point I've walked in a 1/2 mile circle
from from picture 15 to here.
I came up from the left and now I take the path to the right
Nineteen
and walk along through the woods,
cross over a few foot bridges
and turn left here in the middle of this one.

Twenty
That path ends here and I cross another street.
Twenty One
Walk along this path staying to the left.
Twenty Two
Cross the street in the crosswalk
(the one that hardly anyone ever stops at)
which takes me to the pool.
Twenty Three
I pick up the path on the other side of the pool,
Twenty Four
and walk along there until I come to this T
which is in the middle of the first path I started on.
I turn right
Twenty Five
and at the end of the path here I turn left.
Twenty Six
I'm nearing the end of my walk now.
I walk along this road,
make a left up ahead,
then a right which takes me back home.
That ends my 6 mile Connect the Path route.

Hope you enjoyed the walk with me.
Happyone :-)

A day with a friend

I had such a nice time today with my friend Nola. She is another walker and we met while walking where I used to live. She is also the one I made a ripple afghan for. Since I have moved we have been trying to get together and this was the day. I finally got to give her the afghan. She certainly was surprised and nearly cried. Nola came over the house a little before 11:00. She got the house tour which took a little over an hour because we stopped so many times to talk!! After the house tour we walked up the street to LeeLynn's and had lunch. She had chicken and I had the crispy eggplant. I love everything I eat there. We stayed there about 1 1/2 hours just talking and catching up. Back to the house again for a little while and then she left for home. I left then to pick up my granddaughter Taryn and took her to work. As we were driving down the road we spotted her brother Antonio with a few of his friends and gave them a toot and a wave as we drove by. After dropping Taryn off, I went over to the old house to get the mail and check things out. I really need to get over there and mow the lawn again. Earlier I had told Nola I would be in town and for her to stop by if she wanted to look through some books I have there and that she could have any that she wanted. Nola came over and picked out a bagful. You would think we would have been all talked but that wasn't the case and we must have talked for another hour. When Nola walked home I left for home too. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I had the bird bath and feeder out on the deck out back and now that the birds have arrived they make such a mess - seeds all over the deck and I didn't want them around when I have my clothes hanging out. So I put them both out in the front. I can sit on my front stoop and watch the birds there. Hopefully I'll get a few pictures. The chicks and hens that I have in the strawberry pots are really doing well!! I think those things will grow anywhere!! Well, it's just about 8:00 and time for my snack and a couple episodes of Fraiser. I'm thinking tonight it will be 4 chocolate chip cookies. I'll probably knit on the blue ripple afghan. I was going to keep this one for myself but I know someone who really likes blue and I'm making it for her. It's someone who reads my blog so I can't say who it's for yet. Maybe it's you! :-) I hope whatever you did today that you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed mine. Happyone :-) Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Mornings don't get much better than today. A beautiful bright blue sky with a slight breeze. Just perfect for walking around the lake.
Here is one picture I took with the sun shining on the lake.
I got this Happy Meme from Mary's Blog. Being Happyone, how could I pass it up. :-)

Reuben Sandwiches

Hi I'm back. We got quite a lot of rain and I never did get out and walk some more. The sun finally did come back out though. At the library I got out a book by Ken Follett called Pillars of the Earth. I've read about this book on few blogs and people either love it or hate it so I thought I'd get it out and see what I thought. I can't start it yet though because I'm reading two other books now but will start it as soon as these are done. Ken and I went walked over to the Giant and got the makings to make Reuben Sandwiches and we made them for supper. They were soooo good.
Here they are on the griddle.
And here is mine all ready for me to eat.
I only ate the one sandwich - too full to eat the extra half. I had to leave some room for a few chocolate chip cookies which I will be having in just a bit now. We will be watching episode of A Touch of Frost while I have my cookies and then I'll knit. Hope all is well with you and that your Saturday was happy. Happyone :-) A calm sea does not make a skilled sailor.

A walk cut short

I started walking this morning in a partly cloudy sky but by the time I got about 3 miles away it got pretty dark and started to rain big huge drops. Then it started to thunder and that's when my cell phone rang. It was Ken asking if I wanted a ride home. If it had just been the rain I would have kept walking but I don't like to walk in the lightening and thunder. I told him which road I was walking down and in a little bit I saw the blue FJ coming down the road to take me home. :-) I only walked 4 miles but the day is young and I may be out walking again later on. Here are a few pictures I took before it started to rain. I wanted to show you that even when I'm not walking around the lake or along the paths through the woods, I still have nice places to walk down the roads in the neighborhoods. We have just finished a pancake breakfast and will soon be headed out the door to the library and then who knows where. Have a great Saturday. I may be back later. Happyone :-)

A nice spring day

A nice bright sunny morning for walking around the lake. There are another couple of Canada Geese families about and people give them a wide berth as they pass by because the papa's chase anyone who comes near away. I learned the name of one woman who I have been saying hi to and have stopped a few times for a chat. Her name is Jeanne. The other people I have met are Barbara and Gus. I'm writing the names down here so I won't forget them. :-)
Walking down a path.
Some wild flowers along the way.
I've been knitting on the white afghan and have completed three more squares.
A nice typical day around the house and I got a lot of little stuff out of the way. The day was sunny with a breeze - a nice spring day. Ken spent the day volunteering at a golfing event driving the beer cart around and selling beer. When he came home we went out and did a few errands and had a quick bite to eat while we were out. I like Friday's - the start of the weekend! I hope yours was a happy one. Happyone :-) Life is a gift. Unwrap your present.

A mid morning walk

I walked later than usual this morning because there was a thunder storm and I waited until there was a break. For the most part the rain stayed away while I walked. Not many people out walking and the people that I did see weren't the usual ones. Most of the people I see in the early morning are the people exercising before they are off to work. They don't have the luxury of waiting for better weather like I do. Here are some pictures I took along my walk around the lake.
A full stream of muddy water after all the rain once again.
Under a canopy of trees.
Canadian geese swimming away from me. I'm on a bridge taking this picture.
A peek through the trees at the lake.
Some Black Eyed Susan's - Maryland's state flower.
I'll be staying home the rest of the day. I'm going to bake some Rye Bread - haven't made that kind before. Chocolate Chip Cookies sound like a good idea too. A little cleaning will get done. I've been knitting on some of those white afghan squares and will finish one of those. Then I'll read. I'm thinking going out for supper sounds nice too. :-) What ever you're doing today I hope it's a good one for you. Happyone :-) Your children will follow your footsteps more easily than they will follow your advice. Then again some people learn what NOT to do from a parent.
