A Good Day

 Sunrise 6:35
Sunset 7:40
I had a nice morning walk around the lake.  The morning was cool and sunny but it warmed up fast and was hot the rest of the day.  I saw the white egret while walking over one of the foot bridges and stopped to take a photo and watched it fly away.  I can't believe so many people just kept on walking and didn't stop to watch.  As I got around the other side of the lake I watched a herd of deer (about 8 or 9 of them) run across the path and head into the trees.  Kathy, they looked like they were headed over your way!!
Quite a lot of people out walking again, there were fishermen at the edge of the water and two boats out on the lake.  I stopped to watch a man flying a remote control airplane for a little while.
My son David called again from NJ and we talked walked together for a while! :-)
I walked just a bit over 6 miles.

Last night I made a batch of Lemon Poppy Seed muffins so Ken could take a couple to work for breakfast.  No recipe for these.  I used a Betty Crocker mix and I just had to add water.  Easy but they are very good.

I went to the Tuesday morning knitting group and enjoyed my time there.  The other Corvette wasn't there today.  I don't think I'm ever going to get a reply to the note I left.

From there I stopped off at the library.  Just dropped off a book and didn't check out anything else.  While there, I ran into Jennifer, a friend from church.  I told her I'd just come from a knitting group and she said she has just recently started knitting and asked about the group.  She might come join us some Tuesday. :-)

I talked to my daughter Debbi on the phone today too! :-)  Nice to talk to both kids in the same day!

My parents will be moving back to NY in the spring into a smaller house and have to get rid of some stuff.  Years ago I gave my mom a hutch that I got tired of and now that they won't have room for it I am going to get it back.  This is a good thing and I'm looking forward to having it in my kitchen again.  I have to make room so today I emptied out a cabinet and carried it up two flights of stairs to the loft.  It wasn't very big so I didn't have too much trouble.  I still have another piece of furniture to put somewhere else but haven't decided where yet.  I'll be getting the hutch in a couple of weeks.  The wood is dark pine and I think my colorful Fiestaware will look nice on it.

Out for pizza tonight for supper.  Then we stopped at Target to pick up a few things.
I got a new black purse.  I NEEDED a nice one for church!

In a little while we will watch another episode of Dexter.  We are on the last disc of season 4.  Tonight our snack will be ice cream.  I'll be doing a little knitting also.  Until then I'll go take my shower and then read.

Hope you're Tuesday was a good one!

A day of Corvettes and home again.

We had a nice time at Corvette Carlisle on Saturday.  I didn't take my car but rode along with Ken in his yellow Vette.  We met up with a few other Corvettes and all drove up together.
Here are all the cars in row.
The yellow one is Ken's.
That's me on the right by the red car.

If you would like to see  pictures and a few videos from the day click HERE.

A nice cool sunny walk this morning.  It was the first day back to school for the kids so there was a bit more traffic.  Back to seeing all those yellow buses again.  I walked 6.7 miles today and went around the lake.  Not many people at first but saw quite a few people as I got farther into my walk.  There were a lot of groups of women walking together.  Walking along the upper path I spotted a deer with three little ones.  Two of them looked about the same
size but the third one looked smaller.  At first all four of them didn't hear me and kept eating. Then they spotted me and I stood still and we all just started at each other for a while. I was surprised they stood there so long looking at me before they all ran off into the tall grass. All the other usual wildlife was about too.  Rabbits, geese, ducks, a ground hog, squirrels and birds.

I'm planning on staying home today and getting some stuff done around the house.  I'll do some fun stuff too. :-)
I'm a bit behind on blog reading so I'll be visiting blogs for a while too.

I hope you have a great start to the new week.
Enjoy your Monday.

Sunrise 6:32
Sunset 7:46
This morning was cool and sunny and great for a morning walk.  I was actually chilly and could have worn a long sleeve shirt.  I did warm up so I wasn't cold but I never did get hot.  I walked over to the liquor store and found a lucky penny in the parking lot.  Then walked my connect the path route.  I saw the deer and her two babies again and then farther up the path I saw a group of four and was able to get a picture of them.  A little farther on the fox ran across the path in front of me.  Other walkers, a few runners, dog walkers and bike riders were out this morning as well all enjoying this early morning.
I walked 6.4 miles.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday I finished reading The 9TH Judgment by James Patterson.  This was a good one and at the end you know that a 10th book in this series will be coming along.
I also started and finished another book yesterday.  It is a short book of only 90 some pages with quite a few pictures.  It is called Terror in Paradise by V.J. Stovall.
The author writes her memories of the terrorist attack on a bus of unarmed navy sailors in Sabana Seca, Puerto Rico on December 3, 1979.  Two people were killed (the driver and the passenger right behind him) and 15 others were wounded.  The base had two separate areas to it with about 5 miles between them and there was a bus to take the sailors from one area to the other area where the work site was.  The bus was ambushed between the two areas.
Ken was in the Navy at the time and we were there living on the base. David and Debbi were just little kids then.  Many times Ken rode that bus and drove it a few times too.  That day he decided to drive the car.
It was a small base and we all knew everyone.  It was so sad and still brings tears to my eyes as I write this and its been almost 32 years ago!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday I took those cookies to the Dentist office but when I got there it was closed for the day so I brought them back home and they are now sitting in my freezer.  I guess I'm just meant to eat those cookies!

Today I need to stay home and get some cleaning done. I have the sheets out drying on the line now but I have a feeling I'm not going to get too much else done, but I will try. Some knitting and reading sounds like more fun.

I'm looking forward to going out for pizza tonight for supper.

No walking for me tomorrow morning.  We are leaving early to go to Carlisle, Pa for the Corvettes at Carlisle event.

Enjoy your Friday and count your blessings!

Beautiful walking weather

This morning it was cool and sunny and just perfect for walking.  I went around the lake and like most times I took the upper path.  Not many people take the long route so it's nice and quiet there and that's where I saw the deer today.  I also saw a few gold finches and rabbits there too.  The heron was standing at the waters edge among all the geese and the white goose and black duck are still hanging around together.  It's easy to spot them because they stand out among all the rest.  Almost everyone I saw today said something about how nice the weather was.
I walked 6.2 miles.

It seems a nice day to be driving around in the car with the windows open.  I'll be making a stop at the dentist to give them some of the cookies I made yesterday.  I have to go the library too.  I put an audio book on hold and it's now ready for pickup.
No other plans yet for the rest of the day.
Ken did come home early enough last night for us to have some ice cream and watch Dexter.
Make this Thursday a good one!
Happyone. :-)

At Home Today

Sunrise 6:30
Sunset 7:49
This morning was cool like yesterday but today the sun was shining as well while I walked my connect the path route and walked 6.2 miles.  As usual when I walk this route I don't see that many people. I did see a couple of deer but it was a quiet walk today.  Didn't see anyone I knew.  My route takes me through the parking lots of the elementary and middles school and although the kids go back to school on Monday the teachers were there today.  Once school starts there will be a lot more traffic. The picture is the end of a little trail that is off the main path.  Here is where it comes to an end and I turned around and went back to the main path.

It was a stay at home day for me this Wednesday and I stayed busy. I did two loads of laundry and hung them out to dry and then ironed Ken's work shirts.  Did a few other chores around the house.
Put the ingredients for white bread in the bread machine and had the smell of fresh bread baking.
I also got a batch of Chocolate Chip cookies baked.  Tomorrow I'll take some to my dentist because I didn't bring any on Monday.  Hopefully it will be a nice surprise.  He does share them with the others. :-)

Since Ken has gone out after work today, my supper was the top piece of the bread I baked.  The top is always the best because it is big and thick.  I put butter and strawberry jelly on it and boy was it delicious!  I know it's not that much of a supper but the piece of bread was very large and I was full after eating it.
That is one big piece of bread isn't it!?

 The other day two new telephone poles were set out on the side street of my house.
 It appears that they are finally going to take that telephone pole out of the middle of the road and up a new one where it belongs.

Just yesterday someone ran over the barrels driving up the road and narrowly missed the pole.  I just happened to be out there and saw it.  A while back someone turning left smacked right into the pole.  No one was hurt.
It will be nice to have the pole out of there.

This evening I will read until Ken comes home.  If he doesn't come home too late we will watch an episode of Dexter from Netflix and have ice cream.  If he comes home late I'll eat the ice cream anyway and continue reading!

I hope you all enjoyed your Wednesday.
Happyone :-)

A lunch date, books and ice cream

Great time at my knitting group this morning.  While there I got a phone call from Ken.  He asked me out to lunch. :-)  He works near to the mill in Savage and that's where my knitting group met which is also where Ram's Head is so that's where we had lunch.  What a pleasant surprise! :-)

Afterwards he went back to work and I made a stop at the library.  One of my books was due and I had a about 10 pages of it to read yet, so I sat in the library and finished up the book.  Miss Julia Paints the Town by Ann B. Ross.  It's really a silly book but fun to read.  It was book number 31 for the year on my way to my goal to read 75 books this year.  I don't think I'm going to make it, but I'm certainly giving it a good try.  While at the library I picked up a few more books.

Thanks for those who participated in my poll about showers.  It seems like morning showers won out by 1.  I happen to take my shower in the evening!
Tomorrow I will start another poll.

This afternoon I read some of my next book.
After supper we out for a bit and stopped at Weis and got some more ice cream.  In a little while I'm going to have some Cookies N Cream Supreme with a Vanilla Fudge Twirl topper.  Tonight our viewing  pleasure will be an episode of New Tricks.  I'm hoping to get a little more reading in this evening too.

Hope this Tuesday brought you a day of happiness.

A cool morning walk

When I stepped out the door this morning I thought maybe I should have worn long sleeves, it felt that cool, but it didn't take long for me to warm up.  A cloudy morning and it looked like it would rain any minute, but it didn't and I stayed dry.  A lot of people out walking around the lake and I saw quite a few people that I knew.
The last house I lived in I thought how lucky I was to have such nice places to walk and I had many walking friends that I would see along the way.  I didn't think I would find a better place but moving here I have the best walking places ever!  I have met many new walking friends.  What was nice about both places is that I don't have to get in the car, I can just walk out the door and go.
Well, back to this walk.  I saw two white egrets, one flying and one standing in the water close to the shore.  The geese were making quite a stir in the water, honking and splashing about and a cute little chipmunk ran across the path in front of me.
I walked 6.2 miles.

This morning I'm headed out to meet the ladies for a happy time of knitting and talking, but first I have to have breakfast and do a few other things.
Enjoy your Tuesday.

No Cavities!!

A great trip to the dentist.  My cleaning went well and nothing else needs to be done. That makes me happy!  Now I'm set until February.  A good way to make sure you do a good job each time you brush and floss is to pretend you are going to the dentist. :-)  I usually bake chocolate chip cookies and bring them to my dentist but I didn't make time to do that.  I felt bad not bringing any.  Maybe I'll bake them one day soon and just take them in.

While going through boxes I came across this book that my daughter wrote in school when she was 10 years old all about herself.  I forgot I even had it.
It was a fill in the blanks and here are a few of them.
If I could be any person in the world for a day I would be
My mom because I want to see how her life is.

If I could change one thing about my family I would
Make my parents make me go to the movies every night.
If I always complain
My mom get grouchy.

After supper Ken and I went to Rita's and had our snacks there tonight.  I had vanilla and cherry.  He had chocolate and vanilla.
Watched New Tricks this evening.  Another hour or so until bedtime and I'm going to go and watch a little television with Ken.

Pleasant dreams all!

A beautiful morning

A great morning for a walk today.  Low humidity and sunshine.  A couple of blocks from my house I saw a heron fly overhead heading over to the lake.  Once I was at the lake I saw deer, rabbits, and all the usual geese.  A few fishermen fishing at the waters edge and two in boats out on the lake.  There were a lot of people out walking, running, and biking.  Maybe the triathlon this weekend inspired them to get out and exercise.
Later this morning I have to go to the dentist.  It's just for a cleaning and hopefully that is all that will be needed.
I'll be back later today.
Enjoy your Monday.
Happyone. :-)

Sunday Morning

This morning I walked 6.2 miles.  It started out dry and cloudy but about two miles into my walk a light rain started and continued throughout the walk.  Since it was a humid morning the rain felt good and kept me cool. Though it was light, an hour of light rain was enough to get me pretty wet!
I walked over the the liquor store to see if there were any coins in the parking lot and I found a lucky penny.
Then I headed over to the lake.  I knew they were having another triathlon there so I just walked around a little bit of the lake and took the first path that lead back to the street.
Work has been going on here with drains and the path was all torn up for a while, but today I saw there were new paths.  I don't walk this way that often. My walk continued on the street, down another path, down another street and then home.

Starting on the loft

Yesterday I started on the loft.  I didn't get very far but at least I made a start.  I took everything out of the closet and I am going through everything and deciding if I should keep it or throw it out.  I ended up spending a lot of time looking through stuff and reminiscing.  I've made a bigger mess than I started out with but I have filled up two garbage bags of stuff so far.

I did only walk my usual 6 miles this morning.  I walked down one street, turned left, walked to the end and then turned around and came back.  I walked a route that I knew was just 6 miles so I wouldn't be tempted to walk longer.  It was a nice cool morning and I saw just a few others out.  Mostly runners.  Wildlife today consisted of squirrels, birds, rabbits, and a deer.

We went out for a bit this morning and did a couple of errands.  This afternoon Ken has taken my car over to the old house and is changing the oil in my car.  He has ramps that he built so it is easy to drive the car up on them and then change the oil.  Thanks Ken!!

I was back up in the loft earlier doing a bit more work and then made a couple of weave-it squares.
This evening we will go out for pizza which I'm really looking forward to.
Hope you are enjoying your Saturday.

A cool walk and a birthday

Yesterday after I got back from the commissary and put everything away I went out again.  Back to the library.  I had an audio book on hold and went to get it.  I got home and was going to listen to it while I did a few things in the kitchen and opened it up and realized that it wasn't CD's but cassette tapes! So after supper back to the library again to return it.  No big deal, I'll read the book.

Sunrise 6:25
Sunset 7:56
I had a very nice walk this morning.  It was cool and I walked along the sidewalks and at other times the paths.  I stayed away from the lake because I didn't want to be there with whatever event was going on with all the crowds. On one of the paths I spotted a deer.  He didn't stay around too long but long enough for me to get this picture.
A few people here and there, but for the most part I was alone.
I walked 7.5 miles this morning.  Tomorrow I'm going to try real hard to just walk 6 miles!!

I already have a couple loads of wash out on the line and I plan on spending the rest of the day at home.  Cleaning until lunch time and then I just might go up to the loft and get started on clearing it up.  Then it will be time for some knitting, weave-its and or reading.  In between doing this stuff I'll be on the computer every once in a while reading some blogs.

Today August 20 is my Dad's birthday.  He died back in 1999.  Today he would have been 89.  Just want to say Happy Birthday Daddy, I miss you!
He loved boats and here he is with one of his boats back in the 60's.

Enjoy your Friday!  Make it a good one.

Steps

This morning was another one of those humid ones but I had a nice walk around the lake.  All those people from yesterday who didn't walk were out there today.  It appears that there will be another event at the lake this weekend.  There are markers in the water and they have put fences up along part of the path.  I think I'll stay away from the lake for the next few days.  I saw the white egret again,  he likes to stand at the waters edge in the water lilies.  I guess it is good fishing there!  A few bunnies were eating at the edge of the path.  Some of them are quite small. The black duck and the white goose are still hanging out together.
I walked 6.7 miles.  I have been walking a little over 6 miles lately.  The main reason for this is that I have joined a website where you keep track of your steps for the day.  Most people try for 10,000 steps a DAY.  I am just keeping track of the steps I take on my walk.  I gave myself a goal of 12,000 steps which is about 6 miles for me.  So now I've become a bit obsessed with the steps I take and try to surpass that goal each day.  Today my steps were 13,774.  I'm trying hard not to leave my pedometer on for the whole day because then who knows where I'll end up walking!! :-)
This morning I'll be going to the commissary.  I still have to make up my list so I'd better go to that and have some breakfast.
Have a great Thursday.
Happyone :-)

A rainy day

After supper yesterday Ken had to go back to work to finish some things up.  He didn't get back home till 1:00!!! So I read Sizzling Sixteen by Janet Evanovich and finished it.  Though I have really liked all the books in this series, this one just wasn't that good.  I think it's time she retire Stephanie Plum and start a new series.  Evanovich should write one more and have Stephanie finally chose between Ranger and Morelli.  A tough choice.  Those of you who read her books - Who would you choose? Me - I'd choose Morelli.

I've been home today on this rainy day.
I added some more of my books into my LibraryThing account. I also took pictures of some of the books that have no book covers shown and added them too.

I was going to get started on the loft, but once I got up there I saw the weave-it squares sitting there on the floor and decided I would rather make some squares so that is what I did.  I listened to the rest of the audio book Great Expectations by Charles Dickens while making squares.  A pleasant way to spend a rainy afternoon.

Supper tonight was to be Chicken Enchiladas that I made at an earlier date and took out of the freezer, but when Ken came home from work we decided we wanted to go out.  We went to the mall and ate at a Mexican Restaurant called Chevy's.

Later we made a stop at Weis and picked up some Vanilla Fudge Twirl ice cream.  It's been a while since we had ice cream in the house.
That was our snack tonight while we watched the first episode of the fourth season of Dexter which came in the mail from Netflex.  The ending made us want to watch the next episode but we are saving it for tomorrow.

I have another book to start tonight - the new one by James Patterson.

Happy Wednesday to you!
Happyone :-)

Walking

Sunrise 6:23
Sunset 7:59
I woke up this morning to rain hitting the windows and thought it is going to be a wet walk today.  It really wasn't that bad though.  I brought my umbrella with me and had to use it for the first half of my walk.  It rained pretty hard at first and then it eased off to a nice steady light rain.  I walked around the lake and it was actually nice walking in the rain listening to the rain on the umbrella and dripping off the trees. I didn't see anyone for the longest time so I had the lake paths to myself.  It was great.  The rain let up and finally stopped altogether.  I spotted the deer and her 2 babies and took this picture.
 I also saw the white egret again, bunnies, and the ducks seemed to be enjoying the rain.  I watched a Cardinal snatch a cicada out of a tree.  The cicada fell to the ground making a funny noise and the Cardinal quickly got it again, happy to have a good breakfast.
About three quarters of the way around the lake I started seeing people again.
I was about a mile from home when my phone rang.  It was my son David. :-)  He was out walking too (on a break from work) so we got to talk and walk together!  Nice!
It started raining again by the time I made it home.

Now it is time for breakfast and to start the rest of my day.
Have a good one.
I'll probably be back again later tonight.
Happyone :-)

Sunrise 6:22
Sunset 8:00
A warm, humid walk this morning and I walked my connect the path route but went in the opposite direction this time.  I think the hills are pretty even up and down both ways.  I go on a rolling kind of hilly walk.  I didn't see many people out and it was a pretty quiet morning.  Most of the wildlife was in hiding today too.  The time I start walking and the sunrise times are getting closer and closer and I should be getting some nice sunrise pictures soon.
I walked 6.2 miles this morning.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tuesday mornings are my knitting group morning so after hanging up a load of laundry outside and doing a couple of other things around the house off I went to knitting.  We met outside in the courtyard of the mall because the weather was nice.
The other Corvette was there again, but I was disappointed to see that the owner DID NOT leave a note back to me.  Oh well.
On the way home I stopped for gas and made another stop at the library.  I just returned books and didn't get any more out!!  That doesn't happen very often!
I got home 1:15, had lunch and I've been on the computer.  Now I have to go and take the clothes off the line and do a little ironing.
That's about all I'll have time for before I have to think about supper which will probably be spaghetti.
Hope all is well in your part of the world.
Happyone :-)
A walk, a dresser and a mess
Sunrise 6:21
Sunset 8:02
Today the weather has turned hot and humid again so I was quite hot walking this morning.  On the way to the lake on the path along the stream I came across this toad sitting in the middle of the path. He is about the size of my fist.  He sat perfectly still while I took pictures of him.
Here are the two best ones.
 I also saw the deer and her two babies again, the white egret was around and also the heron.  Lots of bunnies and the usual ducks and geese.  It was great to see so much wildlife.
The lake had a mist over it and the water was so calm it looked like a sheet of glass.  I saw many of my walking friends and stopped to talk to a couple of them.  I heard more about the accident that happened along the road by the park last week.  A garbage truck hit a car.   As I heard that I remembered a while back Ken telling me when he left for work one morning and was stopped at the light, a garbage truck came flying down the hill, with the horn blowing and sailed right through the red light.  Looked like the truck had no breaks.  I'm wondering if it was that same truck because it was around the same time and the accident was just up the road at the next light!
I also saw a butterfly sitting on the sidewalk.  It too sat there and let me take pictures.  I posted one of them on my photo blog today.  If you would like to see it click HERE.
I walked 6.3 miles this morning.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The first thing I did today after breakfast and the rest of my morning routine was move into my new dresser.  I went through all my clothes and got everything organized.  I love my new dresser and I now have a place for everything.  As promised here's a picture.
With that done, it was time for lunch which was left over take away Chinese from last night. Next I did a couple of little chores, didn't feel like doing my exercises but did them anyway. Afterwards I was glad I did! :-)
I was going to start cleaning up my loft, but when I got up there and looked at it, I realized that I just didn't feel like tackling that right now.  That needs to be started earlier in the day.  I can't believe how I've let it go up there.  I've just been throwing everything up there every which way.  For those of you who know me, know that I am a very neat person and things are usually just so in my house.  I took these four pictures just to show you that I too can make a mess!! :-)
At the top of the stairs looking into the loft.
 Looking to the left.
 Looking to the right.
 Sitting in the corner chair looking at the opposite corner.
Once its all done and straightened up I'll take after pictures.
So instead of getting started on that I'm going to read for a while now.

A very Happy Monday to one and all.
Happyone :-)

Faith Brings Joy

Romans 5:1-5
Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith,
we have peace with God because of what
Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.

Because of our faith, Christ has brought us
into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand,
and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.

We can rejoice, too,
when we run into problems and trials,
for we know that they help us develop endurance.

And endurance develops strength of character,
and character strengthens our
confident hope of salvation.

And this hope will not lead to disappointment.
For we know how dearly God loves us,
because he has given us the Holy Spirit
to fill our hearts with his love.

May you find joy on this Sunday.

In and out all day

A cloudy morning for my walk but it was cool and pleasant.  No special route today.  I walked 6 miles up and down streets where ever I felt like it.  I saw my walking walking friend couple, Petey and Bob.  We stopped for a short chat.  I also saw a woman I see when I walk around the lake in her yard!! I didn't know her name, but learned that it was Kathryn.

We were in and out all day.
Went to IKEA and picked up my new dresser.  I got a black one. It comes in pieces and Ken put the main part of the dresser together.  He's doing the drawers now as I type this.  It works out nicely because he can put it together right in our room and we don't have to carry a big dresser up 2 flights of stairs.  I'll post a picture of it another day.

We got another gallon of yellow paint for the old house.  We picked out a lighter yellow because once the other color dried we thought it looked too bright.  So now it will get a third coat of paint.

Another stop was at DSW and Ken got a couple new pair of shoes.  I looked around but didn't find anything I liked.  So many of the shoes have 5 inch heals and look like hooker shoes!!  I know I would kill myself walking in those things!! While walking around there I bumped into another Joanne, a walker friend who I see when I walk around the lake.

One more stop was at the produce stand we discovered a couple of weeks ago.  We got more peaches and a huge cantaloupe.  Tonight we will have fruit for our snack.  It's so sweet its almost like eating candy!

We made a few other stops here and there too.  A busy day that zoomed by.

We will watch some television this evening and I'll probably read later too.
Hope your Saturday was a happy day for you.
Happyone. :-)
Thanks to Pam who figured out the bird I saw yesterday was a green heron.

A Walk, Books, and Tea Cookies.

Sunrise 6:18
Sunset 8:05
Friday has rolled around once again.  It rained last night again but by morning it had stopped so I didn't have to walk in the rain though it was cloudy.  It was good to see the little stream I walk along on the way to the lake full and muddy.  It had been getting pretty low.  Not so many people around the lake today, but I did stop and talk to a walker friend who asked me about my pedometer. I don't know her name, but her dog's name is Bosco.  Bosco and I share the same birthday! :-)  Those little bunnies were out again and I saw a gray bird with long legs standing at the edge of the water.  When I went to get a closer look he flew off.  It was a pretty big bird with a long beak, though much smaller than a heron.  I tried looking it up in my bird book but couldn't find it.
There is a fisherman who I see almost every morning down by the edge of the lake at the wide end.  I should say I smell him first as he is always smoking a big old cigar!!  I saw him catch a fish today.
I haven't found many lucky pennies lately, but today I found a lucky dime.
I walked 6.4 miles.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I finished reading another book yesterday.  The Sleeping Tiger by Rosamunde Pilcher which I thought was very good.  Selina has grown up thinking her dad is dead.  She discovers something that leads her to believe he isn't dead after all and goes off to a little Spanish island to find him.  She is a delightful character and the book has a great ending!
Now that I had three books to return to the library I went there this morning and returned them and picked up the two books that were on hold for me.  One of which is the new Janet Evanovitch book, Sizzling Sixteen.
I decided to make some cookies this afternoon.  I always make chocolate chip and wanted to make something different, so I looked in my cookbook and came up with Lemon Tea Cookies.
 I had to eat one to see how they turned out and they are quite tasty.  Of course not as good as chocolate chippers but nice for a change.  I'll have a few more tonight for my snack.
I watched Last of the Summer Wine (British Comedy) on MPT while I ate my lunch and it was a very sad episode today.  Comp, the scruffy guy of the three died.  I had never seen this episode before and it was really sad. :-( Yes, it made me cry.
Tonight for supper we are going to eat the leftover meatloaf I made for supper earlier in the week.  Today we will have it cold on some nice rolls.  It's very good this way too and I don't have to cook!  We will also have some potato salad along with it.
Now I'm going to go and start that new book.
A Happy Friday to you all.
Happyone :-)
Storm walking and Gramma's Lessons
Sunrise 6:18
Sunset 8:07
Quite a morning walk I had this morning!  I walked along the sidewalks today, down one road, turned left, walked to the end of that road, turned around and came back home.  I only saw one other person out and she was running.  I took along my umbrella because it looked like rain.  I got about a mile from home and it started to sprinkle, then the rain came a little harder and before I knew it, the rain was coming down in sheets.  Along with the rain came the thunder and lightening.  By this time I was almost to my half way mark so just decided to keep walking.  I did have my umbrella up but the only part of me that stayed dry was the top of my head.  A tree branch broke off and came crashing down just before I got to the place.  Before long the thunder sounded farther away, the rain lessened, then it was just a drizzle and finally as I was getting back home I could see blue sky.
No animals out and about, at least none that I saw.
Ken called me to make sure I was okay.  He offered to come and rescue me, but knowing me I'm sure he knew I would say No, I just fine. :-)
I walked 6.4 miles.  Actually it was nice walking in the rain, it kept me nice and cool!
Yesterday as I was taking some of my clothes out of the old dresser so I could move it to get ready for my new dresser I came across something that I had tucked away on the bottom of the drawer to keep it safe.  I forgot I had put it there and was so happy to come across it.
It was some pages from a very old book that was my gramma's (dad's mom).  The pages were from her school copy book from 1912!
Here is a picture of my gramma as a little girl.
I took pictures of the pages of the book and have posted some of them here.
This first one says Cooking Lesson.
 Measures
 Layer Cake
 These two pages are lessons 12 and 15 and were obviously vocabulary words.
 I think this is so cool to have this from my gramma.  Just think almost 100 years ago she wrote this.  She was left handed and always had beautiful penmanship.
I think I'm going to have a lazy day today.  Just staying home.  I started another book last night and plan to read that.  Maybe do some knitting too.
Enjoy your day.  Hope you get to do something fun!
Happyone :-)
A busy day
 Sunrise 6:17
Sunset 8:08
Would you be surprised if I said it was hot and humid this morning when I walked around the lake?  No, I didn't think so.  Quite a few people out on this hot morning.  Just being near water makes it seem a bit cooler I think. It was very still and the lake looked like glass.  Stopped to chat with a few people I haven't seen in a while.  The bunnies were out eating along the edge of the path again and I saw two white egrets down the small end of the lake.  No deer today.  The grass is so tall that they disappear back there by the trees.
The picture is what the sky looked like when I got to the lake.
 I walked 6.7 miles this morning.
The morning didn't start out so good for some people.  While I was walking LOTS of emergency vehicles headed up the road with sirens blaring.  There was a bad traffic accident.  Road was closed in both directions and a medevac helicopter landed in the park so they could medevac someone to the hospital.  Not a good sign. I said a prayer for all involved.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First thing this morning I put the ingredients for Mexican Meatloaf in the slow cooker and got dinner out of the way early.
Then I had a bit of fun shredding a basket full of papers. That is one of my fun jobs.

A good day for drying clothes out on the line so I did three loads.

Finished reading The Shadow of Your Smile by Mary Higgins Clark last night.  I got through it pretty fast and thought it was pretty good.  I like the ending, predictable but happy.

I'm getting a new dresser on Saturday from IKEA and have made room for it in our bedroom.  I moved a desk/dresser out and put it in the spare room.  So while I was at it I fixed up the spare room.
This morning the spare bedroom looked like this.

I took out the file cabinet and moved most of it down in the basement.  I took the draws out but just couldn't get the rest of it down the two flights of stairs.  I'll need some help from Ken for that. I no longer want it so will be getting rid of it.  Then I  moved in the desk/dresser and a television which is for my Wii from our bedroom.  I put stuff away and hung a few pictures up and the spare room now looks like this.

It needs some paint but haven't decided on a color yet.

Ken went out after work today so I ate the meatloaf myself.  Made a baked potato and a salad to go with it.  A nice cold glass of milk and that was my dinner. It was quite tasty.
I've had a busy day and now having eaten and cleaned up the kitchen I'm ready to sit in my chair, relax and start a new book.

Hope your Wednesday was a day that made you smile a lot.
Happyone :-)

It was hot this morning but not really that bad.  I've certainly been hotter.  I walked my 6 miles today on the connect the path route.  I walk down this path that goes between  a middle school and an elementary school.
 They have been renovating and adding on to the elementary school for way over a year now.  Doesn't look like they will be done before school starts this year either.  There are a whole bunch of trailers that they are using for class rooms until the project is competed.
I only saw a couple of people out this morning but I did see deer and rabbits and lots of birds and squirrels.  One of the squirrels only had about a quarter of his tail!

Knitting day came around again so off I went to meet my knitting friends.  Since it was pretty hot outside it was decided to move inside and we met at Savage Mill this week.  Of course the air conditioner was on and I was cold!!

I stopped at the library on the way home.  I thought I'd get the audio book of the next cat book in the series but it wasn't on the shelf like it was supposed to be.  I'm just going to put that on reserve too and let them find it for me.  I was proud of myself that I didn't leave the library with more books - not even the one that is ready for me to pick up.  They will hold it for me until Saturday.

Was at home this afternoon doing a little of this and a little of that.
I know we just ate out for supper yesterday but I am really in the mood for pizza so as soon as Ken gets home from work off to get pizza we go.  He just called and said he was leaving work now.

I hope your Tuesday was a good one so far.
Happyone :-)

A hot day and new stores

Sunrise 6:15
Sunset 8:10

I stepped out the door to a cool morning but the air was thick.  As I walked my skin was cool but I was sweating at the same time.  By the time I got home the sun was out and I was just plain HOT!  I walked around the lake which is always nice.  Saw a few walker friends that I haven't seen for a while and lots of other people.  The lake had a low mist over it and the sky at first was gray with the sun trying to come out.  There were a lot of rabbits eating along the side of the paths.  Most of them hop into the tall grass as I walk by but one let me take his picture. I heard a few mosquitoes buzzing around my head and thought I had escaped being bitten when my ankle started to itch.   I walked 6.7 miles and it sure was nice to come home to an air conditioned house!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finished reading Private by James Patterson yesterday.  It was pretty good.  I have his next book on hold at the library and just got a notice saying it is there for me to pick it up.  I think I'm going to wait a few days before picking it up.  Give me a chance to finish reading another book.
I did my usual morning routine, then did my chores around the house for the day.  Those chores took me longer than expected and I didn't have much time left to do the fun stuff during the day.  But I did get to read for a little while before Ken came home from work.
We were in the mood for Reuben sandwiches for supper so we went to The Green Turtle and were both disappointed.  The sandwiches were kind of dry and the service was not so great either. We should have went to Ram's Head, they have really good Reuben's.
There is a new store that has been opened for a few months now in our area called hhgregg which sells appliances and electronics.  We had never heard of them before and went to check it out.  I will not be going there ever again.  As soon as we walked in the door we were practically attacked by the sales people.  Even after we said we were just looking around a salesman still followed us around talking non stop.  We had to be almost rude to him before he finally left us alone.  I really dislike stores like that.
Another new store will be opening here soon called Hobby Lobby.  I never heard of that either but it is  what it sounds like, a hobby store.  I am looking forward to when it  opens.  It will be another store like Michael's or Joann's.  Makes me wonder which store will outlast the others.  My guess is that Michael's is the first to go.
Not sure what my snack will be tonight.  Maybe watermelon or maybe chocolate chip cookies.  Just a few cookies left.  I'll be baking cookies in the next day or so.
That's about it for today.
 I hope your Monday was better than you expected it to be.
Happyone :-)
First Things
Good Morning!!
Matthew 6:33&34
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First Things
 Why do we search for satisfaction everywhere,
then finally come to You, Lord?

No wonder we are worried,
frazzled,
fractured,
immobilized.

Teach us to live in today,
this day, all our senses present.

Help us to notice earth's shades of green,
embrace the sun's warm rays,
drink in the fresh, cool rain,
dance to the robin's song.

Draw us in to Your heart of faithfulness
until with praise on our lips,
joy in our hearts,
we come to where You are
FIRST!

I just got back from my walk.  The highlight of this mornings walk was seeing a fox and her baby!  Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a picture.
I'll be going to church later this morning and when I get home my parents should be here.  They are coming down from Pa for a visit.
A very Happy Sunday to you.

1011 Vette

Sunrise 6:13
Sunset 8:13
Perfect weather this morning for walking.  Sunny and low humidity and temperature in the low 60's.  I walked straight down the road, turned right, walked down that road and went to the little pond.  I don't walk this way often because I have to walk in the road for a while where there are no sidewalks.  During weekdays there is a lot of traffic but early morning on weekends there is hardly any at all.
I first get to this tiny pond.
 which is at the start of a path
that leads to this little pond.
There are some wooden paths around the pond which are pretty to walk along.
After walking around the little pond which is about 1/2 mile or so I walked back along the roads to home.  A lot of people where out walking but only saw one other person walking around the pond.  I love this little pond.  It is so quiet and peaceful.
I walked a bit farther than my usual 6 miles and walked 7.3 miles.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last night we stopped at the Chevy dealer to look at the new 1011 Corvettes.
Here is one of them.
Isn't she a beauty? and in my color too!!
Only thing is, its an automatic and I think you HAVE to have a stick in a sports car!!  The red convertible in the background is a C5 which is the model I have only I don't have a convertible but you can see the difference from the C5 and the C6.
Mine is a 2002 and Ken thinks its about time I trade mine in for a new one.  Maybe in the spring! :-)
This morning we headed over to the old house and did a little more painting.  Last weeks yellow paint got a second coat.  I also cleaned the bathroom and Ken trimmed some trees outside.  Slowly the house is becoming presentable again.  I hope this fall we will be able to rent it to my friend or sell it.
We were home for a while in the afternoon and then late afternoon we went for a ride down to Waldorf where we used to live 16 years ago.  It is not that far, only an hour and 15 minutes away.
Here's a picture of the house.
The whole yard used to be gardens and its sad to see it now.  But it was nice when we lived there and we enjoyed living there for the 9 years we did.  Lots of changes down there, more shopping centers, more houses and more traffic. While down there we stopped in at Ledo's for pizza.
I'm off now to watch a little television.  We just got another DVD from Netflix of Oz.  We are going to watch that and have a small bowl of chocolate ice cream. :-)
I hope your Saturday was a good one.
Happyone :-)
