Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Hair

I wondered why the farmers waited till the corn was all dried up before they harvested it, but it is food for their cows.
Looks like they should be harvesting it any time now.

Yesterday was still a sunny day though it stayed cooler in the 60's throughout the day. This morning when I walked it was 50 degrees and cloudy.  A little drizzle started when I was about 1/2 mile from home.

Didn't walk any particular route,  just walked all over the place.  Down the main road, around the cemeteries and ball park loop, a little ways up Sale Barn Rd and around town.
Saw this in a few yards - people getting their wood piled up for Winter.
You may remember me mentioning Rebecca who I see walking her dog some mornings.  I see her mom too out walking some mornings.  A few weeks ago her Mom told me Rebecca was going to participate in the triathlon.  She asked me to pray for her because she had been sick and this was a major thing for her to accomplish.  Rebecca just wanted to be able to finish it.  I said I would be happy to pray for her.  The triathlon was held this weekend.  Well, I saw Rebecca this morning and asked how she did.  She not only finished the race but came in third in the over 40 group!!!

I walked 5.5 miles.

After missing a few weeks of bowling we met up with our friends for some bowling in Keyser again.  There were 7 of us.
Not a good bowling day for me with some pretty low scores but it was still fun.  I bowled 86, 99, and 114 in that order.  Ken on the other hand did quite well, 155, 161, and 138.
After bowling we all met up in LaVale at a Chinese restaurant with a pretty good buffet and had a good time trying all the different foods.
We didn't get home till after 6:00.

Before leaving for bowling we stopped at the library.  I had to pick up the book for the next book club and I also paid my fine of 20 cents.

I have made a momentous decision about by hair.  I have decided to quit having my hair dyed and grow out the gray.  Some of you who have read my blog for a while may remember I did this once before in 2008.  I grew it out and then after a few months I dyed it again.  Just wasn't ready for gray hair yet back then, but I'm ready now. I made a list of the pros and cons and the only con was that I would look 10 years older.  It is just vanity that keeps me dying my hair.  Who cares if I look older, I certainly don't feel old.  My roots are just starting to show now.  I've cancelled my hair appointment for Oct 1. This picture was taken Friday.

Its been a rainy, foggy day with temperatures staying in the 50's but a good day all the same.
Hope you have enjoyed yours too.

Looks like everyone is getting ready for winter! Glad you had a good time bowling. I would love to stop colouring my hair! Trouble is Chuck already looks younger then me (he is 3 years older then me) so I am sure I would be mistaken for his mother! If and when Chuck gets greyer maybe I will stop colouring my hair. Yes, it is vanity!

Your hairdresser can help make growing out your gray easier. You could lighten it little by little and then when you get closer to all gray, you can cut it and get rid of all the brown. You don't have to suffer through the stripe.
I think it is a very good decision. It was easier for me because I went gray prematurely. A gray head is a crown of glory (Proverbs) and you will look gorgeous!

I have not dyed my hair, and yes,I do look older, but my opinion is that if it doesn't bother me than it better not bother anyone else.My friend and I who both have white hair prefer to call them silver threads.Sounds so much better.

Great news about Rebecca. It sounds like your prayers were answered.
I do remember when you went gray the last time. I'm sure it will be much easier not having to keep up with the coloring. It seems like a never ending cycle. I hope you will take us along through the growing out process.

Wow! What a lot you've covered in this post! Yay for Rebecca! Sounds like great fun going bowling, regardless of the score. It definitely filled your day, and the Chinese restaurant outing means you didn't have to think about meal prep tonight. I have been grey for almost as many years as I was not. There were a few years that I kept - or tried to keep - it colored, but that didn't last long.:-) I'm not sure grey hair will actually make you look older. It may give you options for wearing some different colors. Good for you!

Good morning, congrats to Rebecca for coming in 3rd. That is awesome. I am not looking forward to winter. The bowling and Chinese food sounds like a great time with your friends. I have some gray hairs coming in but my hair seems to turn lighter when I spend a lot of time outside too. My grandmother had beautiful white hair. Enjoy your day and the new week ahead!

I admire you for your decision about your hair. I started getting gray hair at 30 and at about 35 started dying it. Now at 51 (soon to be 52) I have wrestled with that decision myself but I'm not as brave as you just yet. You are a very young person on the inside and won't it be impressive for people to see a gray-haired lady walking miles and miles every day and being in the great shape that you are in?!

I didn't like the inconvenience of coloring my hair, so I didn't do it long. I feel young even though I'm not. That's all good. MJ

Yay for Rebecca! The growing-out part was the worst for me; I get compliments often on my gray hair.

Oh I do remember that! Another blog buddy is growing her gray hair out, too. She didn't want all those chemicals on her head. She's looking great and I know that you will, too. And I very much doubt that you'll look ten years older. Nah! Not going to happen.

You are the third blogger friend I know who has recently decided to grow out the gray -- congratulations!! I think it's a very good thing. I've never known what it's like to cover up my hair cover (yet), but at some point it's a good thing to just be yourself ... my own opinion. But I do think gray or silver hair is very pretty! At our age, it's the beauty of a woman's smile, kindness, and humor that is her beauty, along with the twinkle in her eye :)

That is quite an accomplishment to do the triathlon! I've never done one. A marathon was enough for me!
Good luck with the hair, seems like a good idea. If you need any extra grey hair, let me know. Mine started turning grey in my 30's, I think. I have to admit when I get it cut, it always looks better because on me, shorter grey hair looks better than longer, scragglier grey hair. But age is just a number, and anyone who can walk as much as you should not be too concerned about their age, right?
