Tuesday

Once again thank you all for your kind comments!! : )  Debbie, your comment brought tears to my eyes.  That is one of the nicest thing you could ever say to me.  Thank you!!

It was a bit foggy this morning and 50 degrees as I headed out for my walk, but once I walked down the hill the fog cleared.  It was still cloudy and once in a while it misted but it was very light and I didn't get wet.  I even got a few peeks of blue sky every now and then.

Before getting to the main road I turned right and went to visit the two horses at one of the farms.  This brown one always trots over to see me when I walk by and I talk to her a while.  I want to pet her but not sure if I should.  I don't know anything about horses.  I never see any people about to ask if I could pet her.  I have a friend in my knitting group who works with horses, I'll have to ask her about horse etiquette. : )
Then I walked to town and passed by the house again and then just walked around till Ken came to pick me up and we headed back up to HT.
I walked 5.8 miles.

This is the site we picked for the next shed we are building up at the very top of our land.  Ken worked on getting everything level so we can start building and I walked around with the cutters making sure the driveway up to the site is clear.
After lunch we decided to go exploring a bit in the car to see what else is around.  We drove to Uniontown, Pa which is about 40 miles away.  There is a mall there and lots of the chain restaurants.  The other big town closest to here is in Morgantown, WV and will check that out another day.

Late afternoon we went to Lowe's and got lumber for framing the shed floor .  Tomorrow we will do that and hopefully I'll be able to show you the floor framing done.

I've been noticing a lot of birds around so I put a bird bath down at the start of my trail.  No birds there yet though.  I will be able to sit on the deck and watch them and maybe get some good pictures.
After supper at Ledo's we are now getting some internet time in.

So that's been my day.
Hope you enjoyed yours.

Back to Happy Trails

Thank you all for you kind comments and happy wishes and congratulations on our new home.  Only one unkind comment but I just deleted that one!!

We are back up here at Happy Trails again.   We were just home for the day yesterday.  We left early this morning so I didn't walk.  It's been a day with lots of clouds and rain every so often, but also at times it looked like the sun was trying to come out.
We stopped by Amy's office to drop something off to her.  I'm glad she is our realtor and we don't have to deal with the listing one any more.  I'm sure she got in some trouble for all the lies she told.
Of course we drove by the house to take another look.  It will be hard to wait until we can live there but we will learn some more about patience. : )

Ken loaded up the truck yesterday with some things that we can store in the tractor barn and then unloaded it all when we got here.
I stayed inside the trailer and did a couple of cross word puzzles and read.  I would have helped but he likes to put things a certain way and that is fine with me.  One of the times it looked like the sun was going to come out, I walked around a bit down a trail or two just to get a little walking in.

Last week Ken took the blade of the hand plow he bought at the farm auction and attached it to the side of the bucket loader on the tractor.  It is perfect for clearing out the side ditches on the road and driveway so the water can run freely.
This picture is looking out of the door of the trailer.  That space we are clearing down there is the site of the future cabin.
We went to Lowe's to get some lumber for another shed we are going to build before we start on the cabin.  This shed will be up at the very top of the driveway.  This one will be smaller and only one floor so it should go up pretty quickly. We ended up not getting anything though because it started raining again.

Once again we are using good old McDonald's Internet connection, but come August we should be in our new house with our very own! : )

I wish you a happy Monday.

My exciting news!!

This news is exciting and big so thought it deserved a post all its own. : )

As regular readers here know we have some land in western Maryland called Happy Trails and we go up there often.  It is a peaceful calm place and we really like the slower pace and the little town there.  The more we are up there the more we like it. We have built a tractor barn and plan on building a cabin there too. The cabin started out small and seems to get bigger and bigger each time Ken redesigns it.  It means a lot of work for us and years of building.

Yesterday morning as I walked in town I walked along a road I don't usually walk and saw a house with a For Sale sign on it.  It was a cute, neat and trim two car garage rancher with a big shed out back and I fell in love with the house and property.   I thought what a great place that would be to live, but it probably costs a lot.  I stopped and picked up the leaflet that was in front and saw that it was really a good price and the pictures of the inside were just as nice as the outside.
I got to thinking how nice it would be to have a house right in town and be close to Happy Trails.  We could still make trails and build a one room cabin like it started out  and it would still be our get-a-way.  The more I thought about it, the more excited I became that this house was where I wanted to live.  When I saw Ken coming to get me in the truck, I ran over to him waving the leaflet in the air.  He too liked the house and thought it a good idea.
So we called our realtor Amy (who sold us the land) and made an appointment to see the house later that day.
The listing realtor showed up too and we had a tour of the house.  The inside was perfect just like a model and was move in ready.
Only thing was, the listing realtor said that a there was already a contract on the house.  We were so disappointed.
I won't go into all the details, but the listing realtor lied to us and quite a few other people so she could get the commission.  But our realtor straightened things out and the good and exciting news is that things worked out, we put in a contract and it was accepted.  The house is ours!! : )
So folks come the end of the summer we will have a new house to live in.
In just a couple of weeks we will put our townhouse up for sale.

The only down side of this is that I will miss my morning walks around the lake, my many friends here and most of all my church!  But life is an adventure and you have to take opportunities when they come.

Thinking how all this worked out and the many chance happenings that made this happen and the prayers we've said, I know that God was watching over us and helping us make the right decisions.

So would you like to see some pictures of this house of ours?  Silly question!!

Our new house

So that's my very exciting news!!
Did I surprise you?

A new mattress

It was quite chilly here this morning when I left on my walk at 6:45 - only 32 degrees.  I walked down the mountain and up the hill into town.  As I've mentioned before I walk through three cemeteries.  This is the first one I come to.
Here's another shot of the little pond I walk around.
I did my usual walk around town and Ken picked me up by the pond.
I walked 5.3 miles.

Ken played around with the tractor for a while and I walked around on the trail and cleared a few more branches out of Babbling Brook, but we really didn't have all that much time to work.

You may remember when we first bought our land, we had to sleep in the truck.  Then when the barn was partially done we tried sleeping in that.  Both these places were not ideal and we ended up getting the travel trailer and how wonderful it was to be able to sleep inside on a bed.  Well, I hate to complain but the mattress in the trailer is just awful, and though it is way better than what we had it just wasn't working.  So last time we were up here we went to the mattress store and ordered a new mattress.  We picked it up this afternoon only to get it back to the trailer and realized it was a full instead of a queen.  So we left again to bring it back and exchange it for the queen.  So tonight we will have a good nights sleep on a nice new comfortable mattress! : )

We were going to eat supper at home but since we had to go out again for the mattress we decided to eat at Brenda's and had pizza.

It was a cool day but the sun was out in a bright blue sky and it was a beautiful day up here.

We did something today that was exciting but I can't tell you about it just yet.  I don't want to jinx it, but tomorrow or the next day I may have some very exciting news to tell you!! : )

Hope your day was a happy one.

Comment replies:
Kim - the red bud tree is along one of my regular paths back home.
Kathy - we used the pressure washer pump to pump the water from the barrels into an elevated large plastic water tank which is on the second floor of the tractor barn.  We have hoses connected from the tank to the trailer so now water can to directly in the trailer.

Teresa

We left first thing this morning for Happy Trails and got there mid morning.  Ken gets the outside stuff put away and I take care of the getting things unpacked in the trailer.
We have plenty of water this time - came up with three water barrels filled.
Ken was busy with the water and getting the barn straightened out.  He's putting up shelves and trying to get things organized, not an easy task.

I mainly walked around the land having a good old time but I did clear out a little more of Babbling Brook.
I walked along here for a while and as you can see there is not much greenery around here yet.
Some yellow weeds I came across.  At first I thought they were dandelions but I don't know what they are.
I walked down to the road and was walking back up the hill and I saw a car coming down the road.  It was our neighbor Ron and I couldn't believe it but he had a passenger in the front seat and it was none other than the phantom wife Teresa!!   So she really does exist.  : )  Ron stopped the car and we had a nice chat for about 10 minutes.  She is very nice and we seem to hit it off.  It will be nice to have a friend up here! : )

The day has been a pleasant sunny day but late afternoon it clouded up and we had some thunder showers.  They didn't last long but did make it cooler.

Ken stayed out in the barn and I stayed inside the trailer and did a little reading until it was time to run down the mountain and have some supper.

Made a stop at Lowe's ( there is always something we need from there) and then our regular stop here at McDonald's.

It's been a good day and we look forward to another one tomorrow. : )
Hope you're happy today.

Mowing day

This morning was cloudy and 44 degrees.  I walked around the lake again.
The heron was there as well as the white egret, many birds, four deer and a few bunnies too.  Not much luck on capturing any good pictures, at least not with the camera.  It is always beautiful to be out walking and just enjoying the outdoors. : )

It was mowing day at the lake and there were several huge mowers getting the job done.  Here is one getting the side along the path mowed.  They always stop when people approach to let us pass by safely.
The usual amount of people out but an odd thing I didn't see anyone with dogs.  That is very unusual!!

I found a quarter.
Walked   6.3 miles

It has been a couple of weeks since I've been to the Tuesday knitting group and it was nice to get there again to meet up with friends, talk and to get a little knitting done too.  One of my friends has just returned from a trip to Peru and we got to hear all about it. I didn't take a count of people but there were about a dozen of us.  I knitted on another baby blanket while there.

I'm glad I washed my car yesterday because it was so nice driving around in a nice clean car!!! : )

Later this afternoon we'll be packing things up again to head up to Happy Trails first thing tomorrow morning.

I'll be back posting at McDonald's tomorrow evening! : )
Hope your Tuesday is sunny and bright.

Some good finds

A bit chilly out walking this morning, only 31 degrees, but there was no wind and the sun came out and warmed it up to 42 by the time I got back home.
It's been a while since I've been around the lake so I walked there this morning.  Nice to get back to my lake.  That is one thing I miss when we are up at Happy Trails.

The heron was down by the water and I watched him fly off across the lake.  There were quite a few bunnies around, all the usual birds chattering away and the geese as well.  As usual for a Monday there were only a few people out.  There were a few fishermen just arriving and all was well at my lake. : )

I found a penny this morning but yesterday was a good coin day - a dime and four pennies.

Today I walked 6.1 miles.
****************************************
I guess you're wondering what Ken came home with Saturday from the auction.  I took this picture standing on the deck as he backed into the driveway.  Those blue water barrels will come in very handy for our water.
This snow plow will fit on the front of the tractor.
We can have a nice fire in this caldron.
He also came home with chains, hand forged fire utensils, a hand plow, a shop vac, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things.  All good things that we can use!!  He did well and only spent a little over $200!!

Stopped in at the library to pick up a book that was being held for me and that's the only one I came home with!!  The book is These is My Words, The Diary of Sarah Agnes Prine, 1881-1901 Arizona Territories by Nancy E. Turner and it was recommended by Mary from My life in Scotland, a blogger friend of mine.  It is her favorite all time book so I just had to read it with a recommendation like that!  I'm looking forward to starting it later.

We've just finished lunch and Ken is outside changing the oil in the truck.  I'm thinking about going out and washing my car when he's done.  It sure needs it, but I really don't feel like doing it.

Now I'm off to read some blogs.
Hope your Monday is sunny and bright.

Edit:
I did wash my car and feel really good that I did.
Once I got going I enjoyed it. : )
Ken offered to help but I said I'd rather do it alone.
Now he's washing car.

Peter

I Peter 5: 6 - 10

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God,
that He may exalt you at the proper time,

Be of sober spirit, be on the alert.
Your adversary, the devil,
prowls about like a roaring lion,
seeking someone to devour.
9
But resist him firm in your faith,
knowing that the same experiences of suffering
are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.

What will he come home with?!!!

Back home and back to my walking paths.  I thought about walking around the lake but since it is Saturday and crowded with all the runners I walked my connect the path route instead.
The paths have really greened up this past week while we were gone and the beautiful red bud trees are in bloom now.   I think they are such a pretty color.
It was a bit chilly at 45 degrees and a bit windy.  Glad that all the rain from last night stopped and the sun came out.

I didn't see any deer but did see a red tailed hawk fly right over my head and then land on a tree branch.  I was lucky to get this picture of him.
There were a few dog walkers out, a couple runners and I stopped to talk to Petey and John just about in the spot where I took the picture of the path.

It was a lovely morning for walking.
I walked 6.2 miles.

Ken left at about the same time as I did and went to a farm equipment auction.  I thought about going but wanted to walk and had a few things I needed to get done around the house after being gone all week.
He thought he'd be back by lunch time but lunch time passed and I got hungry so I ate a baked potato and peas.
Ken called me at 1:40 to tell me he wouldn't be home for lunch - he was having a good time and didn't realize lunch had come and gone.  I asked if he got any good stuff and his answer was,
"Oh, yes!!.  I won't tell you now but will surprise you when I get home.  There is some good stuff in the last aisle I'm waiting for so won't be home for a couple more hours."  So now here I sit wondering what kinds of good stuff and what on earth will he come home with later!! : )

So till then I'm going to finish sewing up the last few squares to the latest baby blanket and then read.

Hope your Saturday is a good one.
Give your smile to a stranger and more than likely it will be returned to you.

Home again

It was a warm morning again for walking but cloudy and very windy and once again I walked into town.
I took this picture standing in one of the three cemeteries I walk through.  The arrow shows about where Happy Trails is located.  I'm about 2 1/2 miles from there.
I'm walking along this road coming back from the cemetery where I took the previous picture.
In the photo I've just left the second cemetery and this is a shot of the small pond at the edge of town.  This was the road that was closed the last few days and is now open.
I don't usually see anyone else walking or running but today I saw a runner.
Ken picked me up in the parking lot by the pond.
I walked 5.6 miles.
I took a few pictures of some cows that live on the farm across the street from us and posted them on my photo blog if you want to see them.

We only had half a day up at Happy Trails today.  One of the things we did was to mark out the place where we are going to build our cabin.  : )

After lunch we cleaned up and got ready to head back home and left about 1:40.
We stopped at the pie place on the way home and bought a Lemon Crunch Pie and I'm looking forward to having a piece of it for my snack later on tonight. : )

Hope you enjoyed your day.
Don't forget to count your blessings tonight.

Ruth - No plans to move to Happy Trails permanently.  Just a fun place to get away and be in the woods for a while. : )  We will building the cabin ourselves which will probably take a few years!!!

Our little pond

A warm 56 degrees at 7:00 when I left to walk into town this morning.  On the way down the hill I saw 9 deer and all the usual birds.  It is two and half miles to the edge of town.  It's nice that Ken will pick me up so I can walk around town and not just have to turn around and walk back home again.
I checked out the park from yesterday and there aren't any trails to walk on.  There is a big pile of tree and branches at one end of the park.  There is a big sign that says trees and branches ONLY.   So of course someone had to throw a bed away there!!

I walked 5.3 miles and then there was Ken to pick me up.

Ken had fun again on his tractor.  Look at all that mud he played in!
We chipped and the trail got a little big longer.
This first part of the trail will lead to our little pond.
And in this little cleared area I'd like to put a bench of some kind.
We saw our neighbor Ron again , but we still haven't seen his wife Teresa  and until we do I refer to her as the phantom wife.

We had supper at Brenda's.  I had a cheese calzone and could only eat half of it.  The rest will be my lunch tomorrow.  Afterwards we went to Walmart and Lowe's.

It's been another good day, and we are sorry to have to go back home tomorrow.  But we'll be back again next week.

Hope all is well in your part of the world and you smiled often today.

Hot water

We had a thunderstorm last night and it was nice to be in the trailer and listening to the storm and the rain coming down on the roof.
By morning the rain had stopped but it was foggy and so it was kind of misting as I headed down the road and walked into town.
I like this house that I pass on the way into town.  I'd like the  house we build up here at Happy Trails to be one like this.  Not brick though, it would be the board and batten that we have on the tractor barn.
I saw lots of bird today.  Robins, red winged black birds, a killdeer, wrens, and several turkeys.  I believe this weekend up here is hunting season for the turkeys.

I walked up a few side street and discovered another little park with had a fire pit, some picnic tables and a volley ball court.  I didn't have time to see if there were any trails to walk along there, but will check it out the next time I walk up that way.

I walked 5.2 miles by the time Ken picked me up and we went to the post office.  I had already walked past it two times while walking.

Back at the trailer Ken went to straighten things up in the barn and I stayed inside since it wasn't that nice out.  I cleaned things up in the trailer and then read.

In the afternoon Ken worked on getting the water heater working and he had it fixed in no time.  Oh how nice it is to be able to take a hot shower.

The weather cleared up and we ended up having a nice day.  I cleared out some more branches and trees out of Babbling Brook for a while and then helped Ken finish up the siding on the back of the barn.

We ate lunch and supper both at the trailer today.  I had made chili back home and we brought that and ate that for supper.

Still we made a trip to McDonalds so I could blog!  Don't have as much time as I would like, so can't get to visit you all.  But I'll get there eventually.

Hope your day was a happy one.

Our little stream

I walked down the hill and up the hill to town this morning.  It was a mild 50 degrees and as I walked the sun came out and I saw more and more blue sky.
Only walked around two of the cemeteries because the road was closed to one of them as workers dug up the road to put in new storm drains under the road.

When I walked around the little pond in town there were some geese swimming around and this one duck was walking around.  Don't know what kind he is.  He was pretty big.
Ken came to pick me up at 8:30 and by that time I had walked 6.6 miles.

We found some water last night and filled up the 55 gallon barrel that we have in the back of the truck.  We got all the pink stuff out of the water system in the trailer and have a full tank of fresh water but we hit a snag.  The valve for the hot water broke so we have running cold water, just no hot water.  So again no hot showers.  But Ken is handy and I'm sure by tomorrow he will have it fixed. : )  In the meantime it's sponge baths.  I put a soaking wet wash cloth in the microwave for 30 seconds and have hot water for washing. : )

A nice warm sunny day up here at Happy Trails.  This morning I cleared some branches out of our little stream.
As promised Auntie here is a picture of our stream.
We ate breakfast and lunch at the trailer but went out again for supper.  Tonight we went to a new place called The Mountain State Brewing Co.  They make a real good brick oven flat bread pizza.  A coworker of Ken's recommended the place.  It gives Brenda's good competition!  Afterwards we stopped at Lowe's so Ken could pick up some parts for the water heater.

So that's it for today.  It's been a good one.
Hope your day has been sunny and bright.

Water

Here we are up at Happy Trails today.  It's been a cloudy day and a few sprinkles of rain every now and then.  Not really bad.
We brought 55 gallons of water up with us and have used it all up trying to flush out the pink stuff in the system which was used to winterize the trailer.  We have spent all day on this project and haven't finished it yet.  Not such an easy task without a hose and city water!!  We are out now looking for a water source.  It is used to be that you could get water at a gas station.  That is no longer the case.
Our kind neighbor Ron popped on over to see us and told us we would be welcome to come up to his house get water from him.  So if we can't find a place we will take him up on it.

It is getting near supper time and in a little while we will go up the street and eat at Uno's.

I haven't been able to go for a walk today or even walk around Happy Trails but it's still nice being up here.
Hopefully tomorrow we will have nice clear water and will be able to take showers after getting some work done.

A happy day to you all.
Till next time..........

A Song for Sunday

Words by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend

Speak, O Lord

Speak, O Lord, as we come to You
to receive the food of Your Holy Word.
Take Your truth,  plant it deep in us;
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,
That the light of Christ might be seen today
in our acts of love and our deeds of faith.
Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us
all Your purposes for Your glory.

Teach us, Lord, full obedience,
holy reverence, true humility;
Test our thoughts and our attitudes,
in the radiance of Your purity.
Cause our faith to rise, cause our eyes to see,
Your majestic love and authority.
Words of power that can never fail,
let their truth prevail over unbelief.

Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds,
Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us.
Truths unchanged from the dawn of time
That will echo down thro' eternity.
And by grace we'll stand on Your promises,
And by faith we'll walk as You walk with us.
Speak, O Lord, till Your church is built
and the earth is filled with Your glory.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joint and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

A blessed Sunday to you my friends.

Saturday

I dressed for a temperature in the 50's this morning and was surprised that it was only 39 degrees!  But the sun soon came out and warmed it up a bit so I wasn't chilly for long.
I walked part of a regular route that I walk and then took a little detour and walked down this road here.
It is marked private but they let you walk through to cross this little foot bridge which goes through to a dead end road.
I stopped on the bridge and took this picture of the little stream that it crosses.
This street I walked down was nice and colorful with the trees blooming and the forsythia now in bloom.
I walked through the school parking lot and field and then on to a path through the woods. As you can see from the picture everything is turning green.  It seems to have happened over night.  The deer in the picture is one of 14 I saw this morning.
The birds were singing and calling out to each other and with the sun shinning made for a cheerful morning. : )
There were quite a few people scattered about walking along my route.  It really was a beautiful morning.

I walked 6 miles.

Plan on hanging around home some today, going out to do some errands and maybe stop at a quilt fair near home.

Hope your Saturday is a good one filled with sunshine.

A mid morning walk and chili

It rained quite a bit last night and it was still coming down this morning quite heavy at times.  I don't mind walking in the rain but there was some thunder and lightening so I waited till 10:00 and left when it was just drizzling out.

While waiting I made some Chili - for supper tomorrow.  Here it is cooking in the crock pot.

My walk today was around the lake again.  Didn't see many people about but did some wildlife and was able to get a few pictures.
A Groundhog trying to hide in the grass and weeds.
A couple of Mallard Ducks by the water.
A Heron standing in the stream just up a ways from the ducks.
I also saw four deer but didn't take their picture.
The rain pretty much stopped by the time I got to the lake.  I wore my rain pants and a hooded sweatshirt but didn't take an umbrella.

As always I enjoyed my walk around the lake.
I found a penny. : )
Walked 5.7 miles.

Ken and I went up to the Tractor Supply store again this afternoon to pick up a few things.

The sun is just now starting to come out and as I look out the window I can see a bit of blue sky.

Hope your Friday is a good one and you get to see some sun.

Spring at the lake

It seems like spring arrived down here while we were away for those three days.  It was a beautiful walk around the lake this morning.  It was 59 degrees and very still.
Here's a look across the lake.
This picture I'm walking on the path by the trees in the previous picture.
One of the many fishermen around the lake this morning.
I zoomed in on him a bit.
I spotted a couple rabbits, red winged black birds and saw a heron again flying by with nesting material in her beak.  Stopped to watch a squirrel add leaves to her nest high up in a tree.

Quite a few people out on this beautiful sunny morning.  The only thing bad about nice early mornings are there are too many people at my lake. : )

Even the parking lot at the Giant was a beautiful place this morning.
I walked 6.2 miles.

Ken headed out to the commissary this morning and I'm at home doing laundry and getting some cleaning done.

Hope you're having a sunny day where you are too.

Another fine day

up at Happy Trails.
Walked into town again this morning.
These daffodils are the first sign of spring that I've seen up here.
Just on the side of the road from the daffodils was a cat sitting there in the dirt.  He didn't run away so I took his picture.
I saw the farmer in the field with all the dirt piles from yesterday getting his tractor started to spread the piles out over his field.  He stopped to say Good Morning to me.  I didn't get a picture of him but here's his tractor.
I walked back down the hill from the farm and walked around this little pond a block from the main road in town.
On today's walk I saw a few deer, a raccoon, and many many Robins and Red Winged Black birds.

Ken got good use out of the chipper today, and I made my trail this much longer.  Auntie - The stream runs to the left of the trail.  No pictures today but when we go back next week I'll be sure to take a picture for you.  It's not much of a stream but it's ours. : )
Here's a picture looking up at our homestead.
We left at 2:30 to come back home.  We would have stayed longer if we could but the trailer is still winterized so we couldn't take showers.  Next week when we go back the first thing we will do is get the trailer ready for summer.  We had only planned on spending the one day there but the weather was so nice that we just had to stay.  Today the temperature made it up to 70 degrees.  Last year when we were up at Happy Trails this was the week we rented a house and stayed there for the week and we got 4 inches of snow!!

So we are now back home and the first thing we did was take showers.  Oh boy how good that felt!!!  Being able to take a shower is one of those things that you take for granted until you can't.

Hope you had a happy day and smiled often.
