Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A day of painting and....

Painting
A busy day yesterday. While I walked Ken taped off the rest of the living room so we could finish painting. I took this picture of him through the window from outside on the sidewalk. You can barely see him, but that's him.After a breakfast of pancakes we started right in on the painting and got the rest of the living room finished. After the paint dried we got to peel off all the tape which is fun to do! I am so pleased that we are done and love the colors. We moved the book cases back but didn't put everything back together yet. Since Ken has to go in to work today, this afternoon I'll put all the books back in the bookcases and get everything else back in place. I'll post the final pictures later today or tomorrow.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
38 Years
Yesterday was our anniversary. Ken gave me the most beautiful card! To celebrate we went out for dinner to a place in Westminster called Johanssons Dining House. If you click on the link and see the picture you can see where we sat. Our table for two was down at the end right next to the fireplace. We couldn't have had a better table. We had a wonderful time!!
We asked Samantha our server to take this picture of us.Here's a closer picture of the fireplace.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Surprise
Here's something that will surprise you. I didn't walk this morning! We got more snow yesterday and there are just not enough shoveled sidewalks for me to walk on.
I will be walking to church though in just a little while. It's not very far though, only 2 blocks down the road.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Happy Sunday
Last Sunday in church we sang a hymn, Great is Thy Faithfulness. It was one I used to sing all the time in my church growing up. I love these old time hymns. This one is based on the following Bible verses
Lamentations 3:22-23
Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness
Don't forget to thank God for your blessings today and have a blessed Sunday.
Ready for more painting
Pretty chilly out there this morning on my walk. Temperature was 16. I changed one of my layers from a short sleeve tee shirt to a sweatshirt. I felt like a roly poly with so many layers on. If I had fallen I wouldn't have been able to get up like the kid from The Christmas Story!! :-) Funny thing was I was too warm and was actually sweating!! The only thing that was cold was my face. I always bring tissues with me because I get a runny nose when it's cold and my tissue froze!! I walked my usual 6 miles around the lake. Surprisingly there were quite a few people out there walking. I stopped to talk to Barbara. She is one of the people who I usually see in all kinds of weather and is the first person I talked to walking when we first moved here.
I've seen this Canadian Geese here almost from the first time I walked around the lake. I can tell its the same one because of his messed up wing. It doesn't seem bother him.
Here's what the sky looked like this morning.
Later on when the sun was up the sky had lots of little white clouds that looked like cotton balls. I've posted that picture on my photo blog if you care to take a look at it.
Sunrise was 7:17.
Sunset will be at 5:25
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I ended up waiting for Ken to come home from work last night before eating. We had supper at 8:45!! No snack because we ate so late. Ken did try one of those Raspberry Chocolate Chippers though and declared that it was his favorite now!

Since tomorrow is painting day again I've taken all the books out of the bookcases and have them stacked up all over the place. I moved the small pieces of furniture and other small things away from the wall. I removed the outlet and switch plates off the wall and took the pictures down.
This evening Ken and I will move the bookcases away from the wall, undo the television and the stuff that goes along with that. Then he will do the taping and we will be ready to get started right after my walk tomorrow with the painting. I think it will go fairly quickly.

Did the usual chores around the house and now here I am at the computer.
When I'm done here, I'll either read or knit until Ken comes home from work. Since its Friday maybe he'll get to leave on time. Planning on eating at home but I can always be talked into eating out! :-)

Happyone :-)

A nice 6 mile walk around the lake this morning. A few people scattered about here and there doing their walking or running. Deer, rabbits, cardinals, ducks and geese were around too.
A hill of geese.One stopped and wanted his picture taken.A cloudy morning but still a beautiful sky.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Remember me mentioning that I bought raspberry chocolate chips from Ann's House of Nuts? Well, today I made Raspberry Chocolate Chip Cookies. I had to taste one and it was oh so good. I can't wait to try the mint chips next. I'll wait until the raspberry ones are gone. I still have some of the white chocolate chip cookies left.
It was a sunny day but very windy. It's supposed to be bringing some more cold winter weather with it.
Ken is working late tonight so I made Baked Ziti and its sitting in the oven with tin foil over it. When he gets home I'll take off the foil, and turn on the oven. By the time he gets changed supper will be ready. If it gets to be too late I think maybe I'll go ahead and eat. I'm already a bit hungry. :-)
Now I think I'll go and knit awhile.
This weeks seems to moving along fast. Hope your Thursday was a good one.
A six mile walk for me again this morning. I went along streets and a few paths through the neighborhoods. I even saw a teenager walking to school and was surprised when he answered good morning back to me with a smile on his face. Usually I get a blank stare back. Nice to see a happy one. :-)
A few pictures along my way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It was a stay at home day today to do cleaning. Not a very exciting day but I do feel good when I finish and everything is shiny.
Also did laundry and ironed.
Then I played around on the computer for a while

The last row of townhouses is just about finished now in our neighborhood. All that's left to do is the landscaping. I'm hoping that the final paving of all the streets will be done soon.

I made Taco Salad for supper and then headed out for my Wednesday night knit group. I'm still knitting things for the preemies and tonight I made a bootie.
Driving on the way there I almost hit a deer. Thank goodness I saw it just in time and that my car has good brakes!!

I was home before 9 and Ken and I had some ice cream for our snack.

I hope you had some happy times today.
Happyone :-)

House of Nuts

The weather was back to normal with temperatures in the 30's this morning. I walked around the lake and walked 6.2 miles. Lots of people out walking today as well as all the deer, rabbits, and the geese were flying around making their usual racket. I saw a few cardinals and heard a woodpecker. A busy early morning.
A morning picture.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We found some switch plates and outlets that we liked last night at Lowes. Checked out Home Depot too but ended up going back to Lowes. This morning I put them up.Then moved the furniture and other things all back in place.
A few more pictures.Kenny gave me the secretary desk for our anniversary one year. Debbi (daughter) painted the two pictures for me that are above the desk. :-) That one little spot between the two chair rails isn't painted yet because tape was there. We'll touch that up this weekend when we paint the other two walls.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I headed out late this morning and went for the first time to a store called, Ann's House of Nuts. What a cool store!! It is packed full of nuts, dried fruits, candy, and all that goes with it. I walked around and wanted to buy just about everything I saw. Took a quick picture inside the store when no one was looking!I ended up coming home with these goodies. Mint chocolate chips and Raspberry chips. I bet they will be good in the chocolate chip cookies that I make. I got some peanuts and cashew nuts. Raisins are in one of the bags the back and the other one is filled with graham squares. What I call Valentine hearts I see now are called conversation hearts. I had a very small sampling from each bag when I got home.
Dropped off two library books that are due and I DID NOT check out any more. I only read one of the books, started the other but didn't like it. I have two more library books to read and then I'll read some of my own books. At least one anyway. :-) Started reading of the library books this afternoon.
Tuesday is turning out to be one fine day for me and I hope it is for you too.
Happyone :-)
Some painting gets done
Sunday was a busy day. My walk was cut a little bit short yesterday because I didn't leave myself enough time before I had to leave for church.
While I was at church Ken finished taping off the living room and when I got home he had finished it all. After some lunch we started right in on the painting. We worked well together. At times he would use the roller and I the brush, then we would switch. Since we started in the afternoon we didn't plan on doing the whole room, but we got the hard parts done. We painted the front wall, around the front door, one side wall and the wall by the stairs. I am very pleased with the colors and how it turned out! Here's a picture by the stairs so you can see the colors. This morning I had fun pulling all the tape off. :-) The living room is not back to order quite yet but I'll post more pictures when it is. We want to get some different switch and outlet covers. Just don't like the white plastic. I think we'll go out after supper tonight to see what we can find.
Hopefully next weekend we will get the other two walls painted. Should go quickly with just straight walls to paint. The hardest part will be moving the book cases.
As we were busy painting we still haven't set up the Wii. One day soon though we'll get that done.
I didn't walk first thing this morning because I had to stay home and wait for a plumber to arrive. No plumbing problems yet, but a couple of weeks ago a couple of people had a problem with a faulty water valve and they are just checking all the others out and replacing them if need be. They guy was here at 9 and found that ours wasn't tightened properly and it could have caused problems in the future. Just took a couple of minutes to tightened it up and all is well.
Once he left I could go for my walk. It rained all night and into part of the morning and by the time I went for my walk it had stopped. No need to wear layers this morning. It was very mild with a temperature near 60!! I was on the way to the lake and I found out that the rain wasn't gone after all. It poured for a while and I got pretty wet. I didn't turn around for home though because it was warm and I figured I was already wet. The rain only lasted a couple of miles. It was windy too and by the time I got home I was just damp. I saw maybe a half dozen people out and they too thought the rain had stopped. We ALL were wet! :-)
I found a lucky penny!
I never did have time to eat breakfast so I had breakfast for lunch and didn't eat that until 1:00.
This afternoon I put some of the pictures and things back up on the walls. Then I watched a couple of episodes of Home & Garden while I knitted. Did a few chores around the house and now I'm here at the computer. After I post this I'll go catch up on some blog reading.
I hope you're having a happy Monday.
Boat Show and painting
Another 6 mile walk this morning for me. I went down some paths and streets over by the school. Looked for Gertie again but didn't run into her. I haven't seen her for quite a while now. Hope all is well with her.
The sun coming up over the trees.
I saw a group of 7 deer all standing in a back yard along a path. It was too dark to take a picture.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I made pancakes for breakfast. I added strawberries to mine and Ken added a banana. We both passed on the whipped cream. Ate breakfast sitting at the counter for the first time. I don't know why we haven't done that before!! By the way we've been here at the town house for just over a year now!

After breakfast we went into Baltimore to see the boat show at the convention center. No intention of buying one, but it is fun to just go and look. Boats sure are expensive now a days!!!
I liked this one that looks like a tugboat.Sponge Bob was at the boat show too.Couldn't you just see me and Ken zooming around on one of these jet skies?
After we left the convention center we had lunch in a cute little pub across the street. It's the blue building on the corner.

Home for a short while and then back out to pick up some paint for the living room. I am really excited about getting the living room painted. Getting tired of looking at so much white.
We picked out a color called Cinnamon Apple for below the chair rail and a color called Wooden Bongo for above the chair rail.
Ken is doing the taping now as I write this and we will paint tomorrow.

Last night we watched the first episode from Netflix of The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency and we'll watch the second one tonight. I thought it was very good and kept to the story in the book. Snacks will be ice cream.

All in all a great Saturday and hope yours was too.
Happyone :-)

Today, the Kitchen

I walked 6.5 miles down Gray Rock and back this morning. No morning sky pictures because it was cloudy and dark. A few people walking dogs and that was about it. I had to be extra careful walking on the pavement. The temperature was hovering near freezing which made some sidewalks dry, some wet and then some were slippery with ice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today I spent in the kitchen getting a few things changed around. Again here's a few before and after pictures.
Corner BeforeAfter
I took the chair from the corner and moved it into the living room in the little area I made by the front windows. I took the plant that was on the hoosier in the kitchen and put it in this area too.
The table with the leaf in it.
The table with the leaf out of it. A better size when I don't need a big table. Notice the vase of flowers?
They are the ones that Cheryl and Rob brought over just about 2 weeks ago. They are still beautiful!!
Island BeforeAfter. It will be nice to have breakfast here.
Probably pancakes in the morning. :-)
And that's my kitchen. :-)
This afternoon I finally finished reading The Courtyard by Marcia Willett. This is only the first book I've read this year so far. I sure have a long way to go if I'm going to read 75 of them this year.
I enjoyed The Courtyard very much. I love all her books.
I haven't had ice cream in quite a while so we went to Weis to get some. Near the Weis a new pizza place has opened up and we went there tonight to check it out. The pizza was okay but we won't be going back there anytime soon. Too many other better places to go to.
In a little while I'll be having some of that ice cream we just bought. I got my favorite which most of you know by now is chocolate chip!
Hope your Friday was a happy day.
Changing the living room around
Another morning, another walk. :-) Walked my 6 miles around the lake. At first it seemed like I was going to have the whole lake to myself but then when I got about half way around it I started seeing a lot of people. I haven't seen many of the regulars. I think what happens is people decide to start walking and then after awhile for what ever reason they just stop walking. Then I meet a new group of people and it continues. There are always the same few though that are out there every day for years.
I stopped to take this picture of the morning sky.There are a lot or rabbits out and about lately and the geese have been flying from one side of the lake to the other.
There are two deer in this picture. They stopped eating to watch me pass by. The one you can see easily but the other just off to his left is hard to find.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I want to Thank you all for your comments about by Dad. It means so much to me and to him and my Mom that you will be praying for him.

I spent the day moving the living room furniture around. I made such a mess and had things every which way. I'm glad no one came to the door because I wouldn't have even been able to open it. I had lots of stuff to move out of the way before I could even begin to move the furniture. Slowly one thing at a time was moved to its new spot and once again hours later I had the living room in order. I really enjoy doing this and it's a great opportunity to really clean in all the places they I usually just skim over during routine cleaning.
Here's some before and after pictures of my work. Pictures aren't the greatest but you can get an idea of what I did.
Taken from the kitchen doorway.

After

Tomorrow it's the kitchens turn.
After working it felt good to take a shower and then sit down and read for a little while.

Not sure yet what we're doing for supper. We'll decide once Ken gets home from work. Now I'll go back to reading until that happens.

I hope this Thursday you made a happy memory.

My Dad

No pictures from this mornings walk. It rained during the night and it must have turned to snow for just a short while because in places it was white and slippery. No sunrise to see because it was cloudy. The sun came out later during the day. I walked a bit over 6 miles and took the connect the path route through the neighborhoods. I saw many deer, some rabbits and a downy woodpecker. A nice way to start the day. :-)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last night we went to Best Buy and bought a Wii and the Wii Fit Plus. We are going to wait for the weekend to set it all up. I can't wait to start an exercise program with this. I haven't been doing my exercise DVD since we went on the cruise. I just can't seem to get started with it again. I've been doing that for years and need a change. This is it! Should be lots of fun.
Did the usual morning house stuff and then made a quick trip to the commissary to pick up a few things for the week.
Once home I had another piece of pizza for lunch.
I've been staring at everything in the living room and trying to figure out how I want to change things around in there. I know I want to change it around I'm just not sure what I want to do with it yet. That will be a good project for me tomorrow.
I sat down started to read and fell asleep for about 1/2 hour this afternoon.
I started knitting another little blue bootie. Lillemor called and asked if she could get a ride with me to the Knitting Group tonight. I'll be leaving in just a little while. Ken won't be home for supper so I'll just eat at Panera's when I get there. I plan on finishing the blue bootie, though there is a possibility that I would get much knitting done because of talking too much!! :-)
I have a bit of bad news to share. My Dad spent the last week having some tests done and this week it was confirmed that he has cancer. He will be given hormones and radiation treatments. I am praying with all my heart that this will work and he will be well once again. He is in no pain and looks and feels fine. I ask all of you who pray to please add my Dad to your prayers.
He is my step-dad but a super dad to me and has been for the past 40 years. My own Dad died 11 years ago. I've said before that most people are lucky to have one good dad, but I've been blessed to have two wonderful, caring, and loving dads. :-)
I hope this Wednesday you took time to do something you really enjoyed!
Happyone :-)
Tuesday, January 19, 2010
I took this morning picture walking around the lake. I managed to capture the geese flying into the sun. Walked a bit over 6 miles. A little cooler than yesterday and had to watch for some icy spots again. By late morning the temperature was up to 50 degrees. A nice walk again and saw a few other people around the lake. I stopped on the bridge at the small end of the lake and was just looking out at the water and the geese. Someone saw that I had stopped and asked if I was okay. I said I was fine and was just stopping to look at the scenery. :-) So many people just walk or run by and don't take the time to see what they are passing. They miss so much!
A few rabbits and the usual deer were scattered around the lake.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The other day I had to throw out a pair of some nice well worn soft jeans. There were just too many holes in them and the material was paper thin. I could only wear them around the house. I hate when a favorite pair of jeans have to be thrown out.
So this morning I went to Ross to find another pair. I always have good luck finding them there though I do have to try on a bunch. I can't believe how much a size differs. I usually wear a 4. Today I got two pair. One was a 2 and the other was a 6 and they both fit like a 4!! I also bought a yellow and black check short jacket. On Tuesday if you're 55 or older you get a 10% discount. So today I got all three items for $19 and change!! You can't beat that!

I still had left over pizza from Friday so I had a piece of that for lunch when I got home.
Did some shredding which is always fun for me. :-)
Straightened out my closet and threw some things away. I have a tendency to save clothes that are old for painting or working. But really how many of those do I need. I've just kept a few things for work clothes.
I moved some of the books that I have to read from my loft down stairs to the living room. I am going to try not to go to the library so often so I can work on reading some of the books that I own. I can just see you rolling your eyes Debbi! :-) I've said this many times before and it never seems to work! :-)
I also read some more of one of those library books. I have 4 of them out right now.

This evening Ken and I went out to eat at a Mexican restaurant near the airport.
Home now and about to go watch Jeopardy.

I hope Tuesday was a happy day for you.

Another day in my life...

This morning I had a nice warm 6 mile walk around the lake. I wore too many layers today and was warm, but I'm not complaining. I just opened my coat and took off my hood. It was a great morning walk. Saw a lot more people out today. Plenty of deer and I even saw a Blue Bird!!
Someone lost a glove along the path.A morning look at the sky.
Yesterday I only got a 3 mile walk in. It stated raining after I left the house and I wasn't wearing my rain coat and pants. I headed back home before getting too wet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The football game on Saturday didn't turn out as we had hoped. The Ravens lost. There goes their hope for the Super Bowl. Oh well, now I've got my eye on the Jets. Watched them win yesterday. Hope they win next weeks game too!!
Here's the two prints we bought the other day for the living room. Picture not that great but I love the prints.
I spent some time this morning on the computer. Then there were the morning chores to get done. Laundry, ironing, dishes, and just a general straightening up.
This afternoon I got some more knitting done. Finished another preemie hat. I like how these two turned out. The yarn makes its own pattern, which I think is really cool! My favorite is the blue hat. The next knitting will be mitts and booties in the same colors.
I read a little more of my book which is still the first book I'm reading this year!!
Now I'm off to cook supper. I'll be making a Lydia type of sauce for spaghetti.
Brown onions in olive oil.
Add and brown about 5 gloves of garlic.
Add, celery, yellow squash, and zucchini.
Cook a few minutes.
Add tomatoes.
Then mix it with cooked spaghetti.
Monday's come around pretty fast. Hope this one was a good one for you.
Happyone :-)
A bit more benchwork
A little while back I mentioned that Ken was starting another HO model train layout and posted the beginning of the bench work.
Here's a little video of that work continuing.
The white cabinet will be moved from the corner and the bench work will go right to the corner. I'd like to bring the cabinet upstairs into the kitchen but there is just no room for it. I'm going to fit it upstairs some where because I really like it. I'll be posting updates every so often of the progress Ken is making. I look forward to posting some of his modeling work which is fantastic!!
Three Rings
There is an old story about a king who had a beautiful ring and three sons. Each son wanted the ring. When the king died, he left three rings for his sons and a note that said, "My dear sons, one of these rings is real and two are fake. The way you will know who has the real ring is that the son with the real ring will be kind and generous to all people." Each of the three spent the rest of his life being good to prove that he had the real ring.
Saturday
It was a cloudy start to the day so I didn't get a sunrise picture today. In fact I didn't get any good pictures on my walk. Tried to get some kind of a hawk sitting in a tree but it took off in flight as I snapped the picture and it was just a big blur. Yesterday it warmed up quite a bit and everything that melted froze during the night and there were some icy spots here and there.
I walked along the path that leads to the school and walked around that neighborhood. I thought I might run into Gertie, (walker friend who is 86!) out that way but no luck. I don't walk out the way much so don't see her that often.
When I got back around home I walked up to the liquor store and was rewarded with finding 6 pennies in the parking lot. :-) I walked just over 6 miles. One penny for each mile!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's been a while since I've made pancakes for breakfast so it was quite nice to have them again. No whipped cream on them today, those couple of pounds are still hanging on.

Ken went over to Debbi's (daughter) house to help her hang some new inside doors up. Her and the kids will be moving to Denver in the next few months and she is trying to get the house looking it's best in order to sell.

I stayed home today.
  • Knitted
  • Read
  • Cleaned out a few dresser draws
  • Watched a couple episodes of Home & Garden on TV
Ken got home around 3 and we went out to do a few errands. We found a couple of nice prints to hang in the living room at Kohl's that match another print we already have. We got a real good deal. It was buy one get the second one free plus we had a 30% discount coupon!! I'll take a picture of them once we hang them up.

Tonight we will be watching the Raven's football game on television. Hopefully they will win and go on to play in the Super Bowl.

Hope you enjoyed your Saturday.

White Chocolate Chip Cookies

I walked my connect the path route this morning around the neighborhoods. I didn't see anyone at all along the paths. It was just me and the wildlife. I saw deer, the fox again, a few rabbits, and quite a few crows. The temperature was 30 degrees!! It felt almost balmy out. I haven't walked this particular route in quite a while and it was nice to have the paths all to myself. It was a great walk!! :-)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I knitted another preemie hat and a pair of booties today. I also got a couple more skeins of yarn to make more. I still have some of the other yarns left, but I just wanted different colors to work with.
Baked a batch of chocolate chip cookies but used white chocolate chips instead of the usual chocolate chips. I like both kinds a lot and don't prefer one over the other but Ken likes the ones with the chocolate chips best.
The cookie at the bottom on the right hand side of the picture is the only one with chocolate chips in it. I made that one for Ken. Oh, he still gets to eat the others too!
We planned to go out for pizza tonight and get some of the thick kind (Sicilian) on Tuesday and I've looked forward to it all week. It was well worth the wait. I guess you all must know by now that pizza is my favorite all time food. I could eat it every day. Ken had a part time job once quite a few years ago delivering pizza for Pizza Movers. He got to bring the mistakes home and back then we ate a lot of pizza and we never did get tired of it!! :-)
Friday came around fast this week. Hope your week was a good one and your weekend is even better.
