Me! in a choir?

Sedum Autumn Joy in my front garden - taken a few days ago when the sun was shining.
☂     ☂     ☂     ☂
I never got to walk yesterday - woke up a little late and we had to get to church by 9:00 to have the muffins there.  Cake was for the evening.  We were at church pretty much all day.
I have always wanted to sing in a choir at church.  I love to sing all the hymns though I don't sing well at all.  Well, yesterday anyone who wanted to sing in the choir was invited to so I thought this might be my only chance so I did it.  I enjoyed it so much.  Everyone was very encouraging and friendly and made me feel at ease.  My one not so great voice blended in with all the others and it was fine.  I am going to talk to Mark, the music director and if they will have me I'm going to join the choir.  : )  After all in Psalms 98:4 in the Bible it says, Make a joyful noise unto the Lord.......  : )
☂     ☂     ☂     ☂
This morning it was nice to get back to my walk.  It rained all day yesterday (some places around here got 3 inches) and this morning when I left it had stopped.  It was a warm 62 degrees.

Walked over by the industrial park which isn't at all like you are probably picturing.  It is a small one with only 5 businesses there.  The streets have trees and there is even a small pond.  Though I didn't see any today I often see deer, rabbits and all kinds of birds there too.

I stopped in at the laundromat to take down the church flyer that I had put up there.  On the way a misty rain started so I stopped home and got my umbrella.  It rained on and off for the rest of my walk around one of the cemeteries and the ball park loop.  Since there was some wind too my umbrella didn't do much but it DID keep my head dry.

The man walking his two little dogs was out again.
I walked 5.6 miles.
☂     ☂     ☂     ☂
We stayed home today.  I got the house vacuumed and dusted and I moved all my bird collection into the front room by the book cases from the spare room.  I hung the bird jigsaw puzzle that we glued together there too plus a couple other small bird pictures.  I like to change things a bit from time to time.  Gives me something different to look at.  : )

We haven't been to Ledo's for pizza in quite a while so we decided to go there for supper.  I don't think I've ever had a pizza I didn't like. : )

This evening we will be having a nice relaxing evening at home.  We are watching Ballykissangel on Netflix and I'll be knitting on a scarf after I eat my ice cream.  I've been having chocolate marshmallow lately.

Hope your day has been a good one.

Fall Leaves

☂     ☂     ☂     ☂
A few degrees warmer this morning at 58 degrees.  By the time I got down the block it started to rain so I turned around and got my umbrella.  The rain came and went all during my walk so the umbrella was up and down quite a lot.  It never did rain hard though.

Walked around town including both cemeteries and the ball park.  Saw a man running around the ball park loop.  It's the second time I've seen him.  He just runs the loop there.  I would think it would get boring running around the same 1/4 mile over and over.

Went to see the horses over by the Drane house.  Two of them were out and were under an apple tree eating apples.  One of the them trotted over to me and I petted him a while and when I left he went back to eating apples.  I always think they just come over to me because they think I have something to eat for them, but maybe not. : )

Both sides of the road have had the corn harvested so I no longer walk between a tunnel of corn.
I walked 5.3 miles.
Sunrise - 7:10
☂     ☂     ☂     ☂
First thing after breakfast (pancakes) I baked a chocolate cake for a church event tomorrow.

Then we headed out to Keyser for another Monday of bowling.  More bad bowling on my part but it was fun.  My ball weighs 10 pounds and this time I used an 8 pound ball from the bowling alley.  Even though my scores were low I liked the lighter one better.  This weeks scores were 97, 98, and 93.  At least I was consistent and there is always next week. : )  There were 6 of us today and afterwards we stopped to eat at Chat and Chew.

Once we were home again, I made the icing and iced the cake I baked this morning and also baked a dozen blueberry muffins also for church tomorrow.
In just a little while we will be going to church - it's a two day event.
And that's been my day so far.
Hope you're enjoying yours.

Janet - A lot of people ask me that question - how long does it take me to walk?  It takes me on average 90 minutes.  Sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more depending on if I stop to talk to someone or how many pictures I stop to take.  If I just walk I walk a mile in 15 minutes.  I don't speed walk but take a comfortable pace for me.

About blisters - I've been taking a morning walk for 27 years and have only had a blister a few times so it really isn't a problem for me.  When I have had a blister I use Band-Aid Activ Flex band aids.  They work great and you can still walk.

I think it is very important to have a good fitting shoe when you walk.  It should feel good on your foot as soon as you put it on.  If it doesn't it isn't the right shoe for you.  I have had different brands through the years but currently I wear Under Armour.  Also to avoid blisters make sure your sock isn't bunched up anywhere.
I am happy that I have encouraged you to start walking again.

Stone Patio

♥     ♥     ♥     ♥

Didn't leave on my walk until 7:20, woke up a bit late.  It was 50 degrees and cloudy so it still seemed early.  Still windy but not as bad as yesterday.

Walked through town down the main road, around town, the two cemeteries and the ball park loop.

Here is another field where the corn has started to be harvested.  Yesterday's corn field was left nice and neat looking.  Farmer Georg cuts it with a tractor pulling some smallish attachment which I don't know the name of.  Farmer Marvin uses a huge machine of some kind that takes down a lot of corn at a time but leaves more of a mess.
Saw the man I've been seeing more and more walking his two dogs.  He stopped to ask me how far and long I've been walking.  That's the usual things people ask me.  His two dogs didn't bark at me this time. : )

I can't believe all the chipmunks I've been seeing around here.  They are all over the place.  Everywhere I go I see them.

I walked 5.7 miles.
Sunrise - 7:08
♥     ♥     ♥     ♥
I wrote a few more letters and got caught up with a few loose ends that needed doing that I kept putting off - Copying down a recipe for a friend, a couple of emails that I needed to write, and a few other things.

Ken worked on the back stone patio here at home this afternoon.  Here's a few pictures.  All stone was collected at Happy Trails.

This one is a close up after the smaller stones and gravel are put between stones which have been crushed with our rock crusher.
I did some more weeding and raked out a pile of mulch that I was getting tired of looking at in the back yard.

I've started another scarf.  This one is pink, white and purple.

It's been a day with some sun and clouds, but cool and a bit windy.  A good day for working outside.

Hope your Saturday has been a good one.

Sunflowers

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿

Back to a later walking time this morning - left at 6:35.  50 degrees with sun and clouds but VERY windy with gusts.

I walked around the Farm Loop.  Going up the road by the school there are usually one or two cars that pass me, sometimes none at all. Today there were about 10 of them.  Very unusual.

Farmer Georg has finished harvesting one of the corn fields
and I can now see into town.
This picture came out blurry because of the wind but I still like it.
I've heard the wind described as howling and that is just what I heard coming across the fields - a howling wind.  Sometimes the wind made me take a step backward and at other times it pushed me right along.

Once back to town I walked a couple of loops around the the ball park.
I walked 5.5 miles.
Found a penny.
Sunrise -
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Ken went up to Happy Trails and I stayed home this morning to get a few things done around the house.
Did a load of laundry. It was so windy that I decided to hang it inside.

Ironed - only 4 shirts so it went fast.  Watched an episode of I Love Lucy.  It is one of the later ones that were an hour long and they lived in Connecticut.  This one was about how Lucy and Ricky met.

Baked a loaf of bread.

Baked chocolate chip cookies - another batch for the kids on Sunday - that makes 120 cookies in all.

Finished reading the second book in the Outlander series - Dragonfly in Amber.  Ken had a haircut appointment and I walked over to Sherry's with him.  The book was hers and I returned it to her.  She talked to me about growing my gray hair out.  She said when I can't stand the two colors anymore she recommended that I get my hair layered and have some highlights added.  It will make the growing out a bit easier.  I was going to just let it grow out but I'm going to take her advice.

The wind blew a couple of the sunflowers in my yard blew down today, so I decided to just cut them all down.  It was time anyway.  Here they all are.

The biggest one is 15 inches across.
Picked the last of the tomatoes and pulled the plants up.
That's it for today.
Hope yours has been a good one.

Fingerprint Day

Took this picture of these yellow wild flowers down by the pond yesterday.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
I got up early this morning and was out walking at 6:00.  It was 46 degrees out, dark but clear and I felt like it was the middle of the night.  Looking up I saw millions of stars.

Hardly any cars out at this time but there were a lot of big trucks going through town.
Stayed around town under the street lights so I could see where I was going.
The sunrise was very pretty this morning.
When it got a bit lighter I walked around one of the cemeteries and the ball park loop.  Didn't see any one else out and it was too dark to see animals or take pictures.  As I walked in the door the sun was just coming over the mountain and shining on the town.

I walked 5.5 miles.
Sunrise - 7:07
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
The reason I was up and out walking early was because we left the house at 8:15 and went to church.  It was Fingerprint day again.  There were 16 of us putting together the book of Romans in French Creole which will be sent to Haiti.  Ken and I worked on the stapler machines again.  We worked till 4:30.  We all put over 5,000 of them together.
Sandy and Brian took a break to make us all lunch.  We had tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.  : )  We always have a good time and I am thankful that we can be a part of this.
In October we will doing another language.

On the way home we stopped and had pizza for supper.

Since I was inside all day when I got home I wandered around the yard and then cut some more dead daisies back.  Filled up yet another garbage can.

It's been another good day.
Hope your day was been a good one too.

Blue skies

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
A little change in my morning routine.  I woke up late and didn't get out for my walk until just past 8:30.  Before walking I ate breakfast, read my morning devotions, and had a load of laundry on the line outside.

When I walked it was just a bit hazy but then sunny and beautiful.  It was 50 degrees.
Walked down the main road towards HT a bit, around town, the cemeteries, and the ball park loop.
I pass the little pond in town just about every morning, but today I walked around the pond.  So pretty and the weather was just perfect.  I sat on one of the benches for about 10 minutes or so just enjoying being there.

Thought I'd might see different people out walking at this time of the morning but didn't see anyone.  No animals either.

When I got back home before going in the house I sat on my swing for a little while too.  The sky was clear and a bright blue by then.
I walked 6 miles.
Sunrise - 7:06
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
When I walked, Ken left for Happy Trails.  No work on the cabin today.  He collected flat rocks for the patio here at the house.  Hopefully we can get it finished before it snows.

I made more cole slaw and cucumber salad with the last of the cabbages and cucumbers from the garden.
Made two more Eggplant Parmesans and also and we will have one for supper tonight and will freeze the other one.  There are still more eggplants growing so maybe we can get another two meals out of them.  Thank goodness for freezers. : )  I'll definitely plant eggplant again next year.

Ken came home with a load of rocks in the pickup.  Should be able to get a lot of the patio finished now.

That's been my day so far and it's not over yet.
Hope you are having a good day.

A new game

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
I left at 6:35 this morning and it was 52 degrees.  It was a cloudy morning but no rain.  I walked the Farm Loop and a loop around town.

Farmer Georg has started harvesting the corn.  He doesn't go up and down the rows but circles around the edges.
Farmer Bill was out too but he was busy out in the field and didn't notice me walking by.

I saw a couple of deer running across a field and some more geese flying in there pretty V formation.

Of all my routes the Farm Loop is the one I like best.  : )
I walked 5.4 miles.
Sunrise - 7:05

Thank you all for the encouraging words about my decision to let my gray hair grow out.  I'll be showing you my lengthening gray as the months go by.  I'm just letting it grow out naturally and will just get the ends cut off every so often like I normally do.

In the morning we went to Walmart to pick up a few things and in the afternoon I made a batch of Welsh Cookies.  Don't they look like little pancakes?

We were invited to our friends Dennis and Betty's house for dinner (made the cookies for them) this evening and to learn how to play a game with dominoes called Mexican Train.  Dinner was delicious and we had a lot of fun playing the game. : )  So much fun that we played it a little over 3 hours.  There were 7 of us - the same 7 of who went bowling yesterday.

I finished another scarf for my scarf project which makes 7 of them now.
I've enjoyed this day.  : )
Hope your day was a happy one.

Hair

I wondered why the farmers waited till the corn was all dried up before they harvested it, but it is food for their cows.
Looks like they should be harvesting it any time now.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Yesterday was still a sunny day though it stayed cooler in the 60's throughout the day. This morning when I walked it was 50 degrees and cloudy.  A little drizzle started when I was about 1/2 mile from home.

Didn't walk any particular route,  just walked all over the place.  Down the main road, around the cemeteries and ball park loop, a little ways up Sale Barn Rd and around town.
Saw this in a few yards - people getting their wood piled up for Winter.
You may remember me mentioning Rebecca who I see walking her dog some mornings.  I see her mom too out walking some mornings.  A few weeks ago her Mom told me Rebecca was going to participate in the triathlon.  She asked me to pray for her because she had been sick and this was a major thing for her to accomplish.  Rebecca just wanted to be able to finish it.  I said I would be happy to pray for her.  The triathlon was held this weekend.  Well, I saw Rebecca this morning and asked how she did.  She not only finished the race but came in third in the over 40 group!!!

I walked 5.5 miles.
Sunrise - 7:04

After missing a few weeks of bowling we met up with our friends for some bowling in Keyser again.  There were 7 of us.
Not a good bowling day for me with some pretty low scores but it was still fun.  I bowled 86, 99, and 114 in that order.  Ken on the other hand did quite well, 155, 161, and 138.
After bowling we all met up in LaVale at a Chinese restaurant with a pretty good buffet and had a good time trying all the different foods.
We didn't get home till after 6:00.

Before leaving for bowling we stopped at the library.  I had to pick up the book for the next book club and I also paid my fine of 20 cents.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
I have made a momentous decision about by hair.  I have decided to quit having my hair dyed and grow out the gray.  Some of you who have read my blog for a while may remember I did this once before in 2008.  I grew it out and then after a few months I dyed it again.  Just wasn't ready for gray hair yet back then, but I'm ready now. I made a list of the pros and cons and the only con was that I would look 10 years older.  It is just vanity that keeps me dying my hair.  Who cares if I look older, I certainly don't feel old.  My roots are just starting to show now.  I've cancelled my hair appointment for Oct 1. This picture was taken Friday.

A long me : )

My, aren't I tall and thin with very long legs.  : )
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
This morning at 6:30 when I left on my walk it was 52 degrees.  Still dark but the sun eventually came out and lightened the day.

Walked first to Public Works and dropped the water bill down the slot.  Then off to the post office to mail yesterday's letters down the slot there and finally to the laundromat to hang a flyer for a church event on the bulletin board there.

Continued my walk over to the industrial park and around there a bit and then back to town around the ball park loop and one of the cemeteries.  Went down to the farm by the Drane house to see the horses.  Two of them were out today and they both came over to me when I walked to the fence.  They sniffed my hand and I then petted them and took their picture.  When I turned to leave both of the neighed.
Saw a man out walking his two little dogs who bark like crazy and growl at me every time I see them.

Lee was out riding his bike and stopped to talk.  He always gives me a couple peppermint candies.

It was a good coin day. : )  Found 2 dimes and 5 pennies.
Walked 5.6 miles.

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Today we had a little outing.  We drove out to Thomas, West Virginia, which is about an hour and a half from home.  There are a few antique stores and we had a look around in them.  We thought things were pretty expensive so didn't buy anything but still it was nice to look around.
Years ago the railroad ran through town and was on the other side of the road.  A river runs along there too.
Inside one of the shops.
I spotted this sign and it made me think of my blogging friends who live in Ontario.  : )
Stopped for lunch while we were out too.  It was a nice day and one where we did NO work. : )
At home we sat out on the porch and we each ate a piece of that delicious chocolate cake.  I am glad that was the last of it because it was just too good to have in the house.

We have a bees nest in the peak of the roof on the porch.  I zoomed in to get a better look.  They haven't bothered us at all so we are just going to leave it there.  Will take it down in the winter.
In the front garden a few months ago something started growing.  At first I thought it was a weed but then thought it might be a pumpkin so I let it grow.  Sure enough it was.  Only two pumpkins made it and they are on the small side but I've put them on the porch step.
It's been another beautiful day.  Rain is predicted for tonight and with it colder weather.

Hope you enjoyed your Saturday.

Another beautiful day

✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Once again this morning the temperature was 50 degrees.  Watched the sun come up and stay out in a beautiful bright blue sky.  Wow the blue was spectacular.

Didn't walk any special walking route of mine today.  Mailed off the letters I wrote yesterday at the post office and then just walked all over the place.
This road leads to HT.
Walked up Sale Barn to see the cows.  I've seen the white cow before but not for a long time.  Tried to get a picture of her looking at me but she just kept eating.
I met the woman who lives across the street from the cows this morning.  She was picking up the newspaper at the end of her driveway and we stopped to chat.  Her name is Sondra and funny thing she is afraid of the cows.  Here I am telling her they are gentle animals and have let them lick my hand, me who really know nothing about cows and she has lived here all her life with the cows.  : )  Just struck me funny.
Sondra was another one who said she should get out there and walk.  So many people tell me that.

They cows were mooing quite loudly this morning.  I could hear them from both sides of the highway.  Farmer Marvin has separated the young ones from their mothers and they were calling to each other.  A bit sad I thought.

Sure was nice to be outside walking.  I just love these mornings.
I walked 5.9 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
I stayed home again today while Ken went up to HT.  He was going to do a bit of a clean up there.

On the 27th is my turn to provide snacks for the kids in Sunday school so I baked the first batch of cookies for that and put them in the freezer.  I'll bake the other batch  another day.  I need to bring 120 cookies.

Wrote a few more letters, got another load of laundry hung out on the line, and sat on the porch and read for a little while again this afternoon.  Another one of those beautiful sunny days.

Since a few of you were interested in the cole slaw recipe I made yesterday, here it is.
Cole Slaw
1 cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
4 cups shredded cabbage
1 cup shredded carrots

In large bowl stir together first 4 ingredients.  Add the cabbage and carrots.  Toss to coat well.  Cover - chill at least 2 hours

I used lite mayonnaise.  The recipe also called for 1/2 cup of chopped green pepper but  didn't add that.
I like raisins in it too but Ken doesn't so I just add some to mine serving when I eat it.

Hope you have enjoyed your day.

Blue sky

Fence on the right look familiar?
It is on yesterday's post as well.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿

A little warmer than yesterday at 50 degrees when I walked this morning.  I went around the Farm Loop and then around town.  Ken was out at Lowe's when I got home so I left again and walked some more around town.

Saw a few rabbits and the wild turkeys were out again in just about the spot as yesterday.  I counted 9 of them.

Clouds were in some of the low areas but soon the sun chased them all away and the sun was shinning brightly.

So nice to be out walking.
I walked 6.8 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Isn't the green of the pine trees so pretty against the bright blue sky?!  Picture is looking up in my back yard.
Ken went up to Happy Trails after he got back from Lowe's to get started on the electric work at the cabin.

I opted to stay home today.  I had some letters that I had to write.
We cut a couple more cabbages from the garden today and I made cole slaw with one of them.  Haven't made cole slaw in a very long time.  Sure nice having a cabbage from my garden to make it.  : )
Didn't post the recipe but if anyone is interested, let me know in a comment and I'll post it tomorrow.

Sat on the porch for a while this afternoon and got more of my book read.  The weather has just been perfect this week.  A nice cool morning for walking and then it warms up to the low 70's with lots of sunshine.  I can't think of anyone not liking a weather report like that. : )

Hope you day has been sunny and bright.

Happy Trails

✿     ✿      ✿     ✿

The temperature was 44 degrees again this morning and I watched the sun come up and then stay out in a pretty blue sky, though at first there was some patches of fog here and there.

I walked the Farm Loop and two times around the loop by the ball park and then home.

I saw Joyce walking to get her cup of coffee.  She was wearing her green day glow vest and could be easily seen.  I've started wearing my day glow green sweatshirt so I too can be seen better.  Ken suggested I wear that instead of my orange.

Stopped to talk to Farmer Bill.  We love these cool crisp mornings.
I saw 4 deer running in the field and another 2 in the wooded area.  Spotted some wild turkeys too.  Had to zoom in to get a picture before they ran back into the woods.  Sorry for the poor quality of the picture.
I walked 5.6 miles.
✿     ✿     ✿     ✿
Went up to Happy Trails today.  Ken painted this sign on a nice flat rock and put it at the bottom of the driveway.  I thought he did a great job on free hand painting the letters.  Looks like he used a stencil.
We worked on painting the old decking boards and nailing them up on the porch/balcony.
Painted underneath too.  Picture is kind of washed out.
I went for a walk down one of the trails.
It was a good day at HT.

Hope your day was a happy one.

Looked up both wild asters and Michaelmas daisies and they both look like the flowers on yesterday's post.  Just must be called different names here and in England.  Thanks Kim, Robin, Kerri, and Ruta for identifying them for me. : )
