Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

Fall Leaves

☂     ☂     ☂     ☂
A few degrees warmer this morning at 58 degrees.  By the time I got down the block it started to rain so I turned around and got my umbrella.  The rain came and went all during my walk so the umbrella was up and down quite a lot.  It never did rain hard though.

Walked around town including both cemeteries and the ball park.  Saw a man running around the ball park loop.  It's the second time I've seen him.  He just runs the loop there.  I would think it would get boring running around the same 1/4 mile over and over.

Went to see the horses over by the Drane house.  Two of them were out and were under an apple tree eating apples.  One of the them trotted over to me and I petted him a while and when I left he went back to eating apples.  I always think they just come over to me because they think I have something to eat for them, but maybe not. : )

Both sides of the road have had the corn harvested so I no longer walk between a tunnel of corn.
I walked 5.3 miles.

First thing after breakfast (pancakes) I baked a chocolate cake for a church event tomorrow.

Then we headed out to Keyser for another Monday of bowling.  More bad bowling on my part but it was fun.  My ball weighs 10 pounds and this time I used an 8 pound ball from the bowling alley.  Even though my scores were low I liked the lighter one better.  This weeks scores were 97, 98, and 93.  At least I was consistent and there is always next week. : )  There were 6 of us today and afterwards we stopped to eat at Chat and Chew.

Once we were home again, I made the icing and iced the cake I baked this morning and also baked a dozen blueberry muffins also for church tomorrow.
In just a little while we will be going to church - it's a two day event.
And that's been my day so far.
Hope you're enjoying yours.

Janet - A lot of people ask me that question - how long does it take me to walk?  It takes me on average 90 minutes.  Sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more depending on if I stop to talk to someone or how many pictures I stop to take.  If I just walk I walk a mile in 15 minutes.  I don't speed walk but take a comfortable pace for me.

About blisters - I've been taking a morning walk for 27 years and have only had a blister a few times so it really isn't a problem for me.  When I have had a blister I use Band-Aid Activ Flex band aids.  They work great and you can still walk.

I think it is very important to have a good fitting shoe when you walk.  It should feel good on your foot as soon as you put it on.  If it doesn't it isn't the right shoe for you.  I have had different brands through the years but currently I wear Under Armour.  Also to avoid blisters make sure your sock isn't bunched up anywhere.
I am happy that I have encouraged you to start walking again.

  1. Wow, you really got some color there. We are just starting to see leaves turn here after a couple of cool nights. We need rain bad too. And it's a coming....Good for you, over 5 miles. I tend to do 2-3 miles in an hour or less. I'd love to try 5. The right sneakers are SO Important!

  3. Hello, the leaves are pretty. It is still mostly green here. I think it is awesome you do 5-6 miles a day. I am lucky if I do two miles, but at least two is better than none. I am sure your cake and muffins will be delicious. Have a happy day!

How fortunate you are to have some horses to visit on your walk.
Your top photo of the colourful leaves is lovely.

  6. Our daughter has indicated that horses don't really know when to stop eating.:-) Apples are good for them to eat. You've certainly been busy with baking! The aromas coming from your kitchen must be wonderful!

  8. Hubby would walk with his regular dress socks, always got a blister. He got some Under Armour athletic socks and that solved his issues. Your leaves are so colorful already!

  9. That quote is a good one.
I love your new fall look on the blog. So pretty.
We've been having rain for days here. After a dry summer it was badly needed. However, I wouldn't mind if the sun put in an appearance soon.
It must feel really different to no longer be walking through the corn tunnel.

  10. I will sometimes walk on an indoor track when the weather is bad, and yes, it's incredibly boring to repeat the same quarter mile over and over again!!

I found this quote and thought of you.

The kingdom of God is like finding pennies on the ground. Loose change litters our feet, but we usually pass by, never noticing. Signs of God’s coming kingdom fall around us every day, but we are often too preoccupied with the business of our busy lives to realize what we are missing. - Titus O’Bryant with Virgie Gallian
