Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Another update

Another quick update post.
Problems over night developed with the circulation in my Mom's right leg (left hip fractured) so the hip operation was put on hold.
We left the hospital still not knowing when, and we all were a bit down about it.
Then the hospital called my step-dad at the hotel with the good news that her circulation had improved enough so that the hip operation can be done some time tomorrow.

Thanks so much for the continued prayers and good thoughts from you all.

Update

Just a quick update on my Mom.
The last few days have begun to run together.  We traveled up here to Albany Saturday and it took us 10 hours.

My mother's heart was not good enough for them to operate on her hip so they first had to do a temporary fix on her heart. They finally did that procedure late this afternoon (Mon).  They couldn't do anything on Sat or Sun because it was the weekend.  She came through the heart procedure very well and now she will be able to have the operation to fix her hip.  We are hoping that they will be able to do that tomorrow!!!  She has been in pain with her hip for 4 days now.  It is harder for her too because of the Alzheimer's and at times she is confused to why she is even in the hospital.

I want to thank you all so much for all the kind words and prayers.  It means so much to me and my family.

Will post again when I can.

Another set back

☺     ☺     ☺     ☺
35 degrees this morning and cloudy when I left on my walk.  It felt like rain but it never did.  I walked down the main road just past the turn off for HT and turned around
and went back to town and walked up and down the street.  They have started cleaning the gravel up around town spread around for the snow.  It was so thick on the sidewalks that you couldn't tell there was cement sidewalks.
Walked around the cemeteries and the ball park too.  Didn't see Kathy this morning but I did see her car in the parking lot so she was around somewhere.

I walked 6.2 miles.
☺     ☺     ☺     ☺
I've been on the telephone quite a few times today with my step-dad.  My mother has had another setback.  She fell last night and broke her hip and is back in the hospital.  They are transferring her back to Albany tomorrow where she will have to have surgery to fix her hip.  But in order for her to have the surgery they have to do a quick fix to her heart or she can't have the surgery on her hip.
We are going up there tomorrow to be with her and my step-dad.
So please keep her in your prayers.   It means so much to know you are praying for us.
Will post when I can.

A new car

Some hay bales at Farmer Bill's farm
☺     ☺     ☺     ☺
I left the house this morning for my walk at 6:30 and sunrise was at 7:11.  It was a warm 47 degrees, breezy with sun and clouds.  Perfect walking weather.

I enjoyed my walk around the Farm Loop this morning.  It's been a while since I went that route.   One day soon these fields will have corn growing tall.

Neither the cows or the horses were anywhere to be seen but I did see rabbits, ducks, and birds - Killdeer, Robins, and Red Winged Black birds.

I left early enough so I didn't encounter all the cars and school buses along this road which leads back to town.
Once back in town I walked once around the two cemeteries and the ball park.  Saw Kathy again walking around one of the cemeteries.  We commented on the beautiful walking weather today.

I walked 6.5 miles.
☺     ☺     ☺     ☺
No post yesterday because I took the day off from walking, exercising and blogging.  Just needed a day off.

This morning we left in Ken's car,
and came home in our new Equinox.
It looks black but it is really a dark blue
called Velvet Blue.
Ken drove it part way home and I drive it the rest of the way.  It had just started to rain when I pulled in the driveway.  It rides and drives really nice and we are very happy with it. : )  Every one at the dealership was friendly and it was a very pleasant buying experience.

For a while we've been thinking about getting another car and today we finally made our decision and traded Ken's car in for the Equinox.  The Corvette just isn't a very practical car living here.  The truck is a work truck and we will drive around here in the new car.  It's an all wheel drive which you really need here.  I'm keeping my corvette though and will drive it during the non snow months.  I just couldn't give mine up.

I've started reading Outlander and LIKE it.

Hope your Thursday has been a happy day and you smiled often.

A touch of snow

Yes, this is from this morning - a little snow fell last night.
☁     ☁     ☁     ☁

30 degrees this morning and a dusting of snow when I headed out for my walk. There was no breeze but it stayed cloudy and a time or two a few flakes were still about.

Walked around town once again and around the cemeteries and ball park loop.  Kathy was out walking again too.  She's been out there most days now.

A few rabbits were about as well as a couple of chipmunks by the cemeteries.  Saw the Killdeers again and deer prints in the snow.

I walked 6.2 miles.
☁     ☁      ☁     ☁
We planned on bringing the tractor down to the house to pull up some shrubs and to dig up the ground for my garden but the weather didn't cooperate so we decided to drive down to LaVale for the day.  No snow down there.  By the time we got back home the snow was gone here too.

Went in and out of a bunch of stores.  One stop was at Kohl's and today I found an outfit that I liked for a real good price.  Didn't go looking for anything but when I found something I thought I'd better get it because it is so very hard to find something when I go out looking.
Another store we came out with some seeds.  Sunflowers for me and pumpkins for Ken.  Also got this little starter of basil.  It is in a little pail and fits on the window sill in the kitchen.  I think I'm going to paint the pail - it is silver now.
Just before coming home we stopped in at the library and I picked up the book selected for the book club meeting in May, a non-fiction book, Being Mortal by Atual Gawande.  Another book I got is Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.  I've heard the series is very good and believe there are seven books in the series.

I made meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas for supper and we will have the usual evening at home.  Predictable, but nice. : )

Hope your day as been a happy one.

Happy Trails

Looking up walking at Happy Trails.
 ☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
23 degrees this morning when I left for my walk.  Not much of a breeze and the sun was shining.

Walked around town again and around the cemeteries.  Down by the Drane House a couple of geese took off for the pond when they saw me walking down the road.  I zoomed in and took their picture.
Saw a few rabbits around and lots of birds.  I didn't realized how much I missed hearing them chirping during the winter until I heard them again. : )

Kathy was out walking too but I saw her in the distance.

Only walked 5 miles because we planned on going up to HT today and knew I would get a lot more walking in then.
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
Did our morning routine around the house and then went up to Happy Trails.  Ken had to stop and get some gas for the tractor and I left at the same time and started walking up towards HT, only walked a half mile before he caught up to me and I rode with him the rest of the way.

Ken started right away cutting down a few trees and taking out 7 tree stumps from the cabin site.  I spent the morning burning brush in the fire barrel.  We took a break lunch time and cooked up some hot dogs over a camp fire.  Nothing like a hot dog cooked over an open fire.
In the afternoon Ken continued on clearing the cabin site while I just walked around on the trails.  A few pictures along the way.

This is what the cabin site looked when Ken quit for the day.  Hard to see in the picture but Ken is driving the tractor with a big tree stump in the front end loader.
The orange ribbon is roughly where the cabin will be.
It was a nice sunny day though on the cool side with temperatures in the low 40's.  Nice being outside all day.  We'll sleep good tonight. : )

After a hard days work up at HT we like to go home, get cleaned up and go out for a bite to eat.  This evening we went to Ledo's.

Home now and later I'll have my ice cream snack while we watch a little television.  I'll make a few more squares and then read until bedtime.
That's it for today.
Hope your day was sunny and bright it and it was a good day.

Sunday

I Refuse to be Discouraged

I refuse to be discouraged,
To be sad, or to cry:
I refuse to be downhearted,
and here's the reason why...

I have a God who's mighty,
Who's sovereign and supreme;
I have a God who loves me,
and I am on His team.

He is all wise and powerful,
Jesus is His name;
Though everything is changeable,
My God remains the same.

My God knows all that's happening;
Beginning to the end,
His presence is my comfort,
He is my dearest friend.

When sickness comes to weaken me,
To bring my head down low,
I call upon my mighty God;
Into His arms I go.

When circumstances threaten
to rob me from my peace;
He draws me close unto His breast,
Where all my strivings cease.

And when my heart melts within me,
and weakness takes control,
He gathers me into His arms,
He soothes my heart and soul.

The great " I AM" is with me,
My life is in His hand,
The "Son of the Lord" is my hope,
It's in His strength I stand.

I refuse to be defeated,
My eyes are on my God;
He has promised to be with me,
as through this life I trod.

I'm looking past all my circumstances,
To Heaven's throne above;
my prayers have reached
the heart of God,
I'm resting in His love.

I give God thanks in everything,
My eyes are on His face;
The battle's His, the victory is mine;
He'll help me win the race.

Jars

Jars of buttons, toys and marbles
♥     ♥     ♥     ♥
37 degrees this morning when I went for my morning walk.  It wasn't raining but everything was wet yet.  Most of the snow was washed away with the rain.

Walked to the post office first and dropped off a letter in the mail slot.

Another walk all over and around town a  couple of times.  Went around the cemeteries a couple of times too and the ball park loop.

The horses came out of the barn down by the Drane House to see me.  I saw a couple of rabbits scampering around too.
My mind wasn't so much on my walk this morning because my step-dad called and we talked a while as I walked.

I walked 6.3 miles.
♥     ♥     ♥     ♥
My mom isn't doing all that well. She also has early stages of Alzheimer's and coming off the medicine for that and the blood thinner for the surgery didn't sit well with her.  She has had a few mini strokes and was in the hospital but coming home today.  They and the doctors are rethinking if she should even have the surgery now.  So right now the prayer is to give all concerned the wisdom to know what is the best thing to do for MY MOM.
♥     ♥     ♥     ♥
I've tried a few times to read the next book for my book club but just can't seem to get into it.  I keep nodding off and then having to read what I just read, so I've decided not to read it.  The book is Some Luck by Jane Smiley.
So I'm now I'm reading 1022 Evergreen Place by Debbie Macomber.

Nice to see the sun come out later in the afternoon.  Seems more like spring today.
Worked out in the yard for a little while cutting back the old daisies from last year.  I can already see the new ones starting.

Home this evening doing our usual.  I'll be reading, making weave-its, watching a bit of television and having my ice cream snack.

Hope your Saturday was happy and bright.

A differnet look in the front room

☃     ☃     ☃     ☃
We got a couple of inches of snow overnight.  It was 34 degrees when I left for my walk this morning.  Didn't realize until I walked out the door that there was a drizzly rain and it was very slushy.
By the time I dropped off the water bill and dropped some mail in the mail slot at the post office I had only walked a mile and my feet were already soaking wet. I wore my hiking shoes which usually keep my feet pretty dry but not this time, so I went back home, changed my socks, put on my hiking boots, got my rain slicker on and left again.  This time I stayed dry.  I walked around town and stayed off the main road and tried to stay away from the snow plows.  Walked the loops around the cemeteries and the ball park a few times.  It was raining pretty much the whole time but it was still nice to be outside walking.  Lots better than walking in the basement. : )

I walked 6 miles.
☃     ☃     ☃     ☃
I enjoy changing furniture around and do it quite often.  It must be the genes.  My grandmother, mother, me, and both my kids are the same way.

This afternoon I changed things around a bit in the front room.  Here's what I ended up with.  A bit unconventional for me having the chairs in the middle of the room.

Changing things around always gives me a good chance to clean behind things and do a more thorough cleaning.

It's been a nice day at home.
A happy day to you, my friends.

Postponed

Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts and prayers.
I can feel your caring in your words.
Only thing my mom's surgery was postponed for at least a week.
Why you ask - because there were no beds for her in ICU
once the surgery would be done.
They were in the hospital, my mom already had her wrist band on
when they were told that her surgery had to be postponed.
So home they went and now have to wait for a new date.
As upsetting as this is I reminded myself that God has His own
plan and timing and knows best.
There was some reason that only God knows why it was not a good
day for her surgery.
So I will continue to pray and trust His timing.
Thanks again. : )

This morning it was 29 degrees, dark, and calm with not even a breeze.  Saw the sun come up but that's all I saw before it got covered over in clouds.

I had my usual walk all around town a few times, around the cemeteries and the ball park loop and the path shown in the picture. I don't have any special route but just walk  where I feel like going at the moment.
I saw Kathy but we didn't stop, just a quick "Good Morning."  She drives her car to town to walk.

This picture is taken at a small park in town.  My house is behind those pine trees way to the right.

I walked 6.2 miles.
Found a nickel in the library parking lot.

We went out and did a few errands in the morning and after lunch went up to Happy Trails.  Ken did a little work in the Tool Shop, which is the building here on top of the hill.  Doesn't like much of a hill but if you walked up it you would know better. : )  The building down at the bottom is the Tractor Barn for those of you who are new to reading my blog.
While Ken worked I walked around the paths and the road picking up dead fall along with way.

Ken took this picture of me standing in the middle of where our little cabin will be looking out at the view.
We are about to leave to go out to dinner now.
Posting this a bit earlier than usual today because I know you are wondering about my mother.

Hope your day was a good one and you smiled often.

Quiet around the house

The ice has melted on the town pond and the geese have arrived.
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
It was a chilly 20 degrees this morning and windy when I left for my walk and still dark at 6:40.  But I did get to see the start of a brand new day with a beautiful sky.

I walked around town a couple of times including the two cemeteries and the ball park loop.  Also walked around the town pond.  Yesterday the grass around it was all soggy but this morning it was frozen again so I could walk there.

Didn't see any other people out walking and only took this two pictures and then my battery went dead on my camera.  I may have mentioned this before but I get a kick out of when it says 'battery exhausted' on the screen.

I walked 6.2 miles.
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
I called my mother this morning to tell her I loved her and that so many people would be praying for her tomorrow morning when she has her surgery.  She is very calm and not worried and feels peaceful knowing she is in God's hands.  She thanks you for all the prayers.  Her and my step-dad are driving down to Albany (100 miles away) today and will be staying at the hotel across the street from the hospital. She has to be at the hospital at 6:00 AM and will have her surgery at 8:30 AM.   By the way my mom's name is Ida.

David and the kids were here in the morning and after lunch they loaded up the car and with a few tears shed went on their way.  So nice having them here a few days.  I even liked sharing my ice cream with them. : )

Very quiet around the house this afternoon.  I sat and did a little knitting.
Glad it was a church night. : )

Hope your day has been a happy one.

Enjoying the day

Japhy, David, and Scout
Grandson, Son, and Granddaughter
♡     ♡     ♡     ♡
A warm 55 degrees, cloudy and very windy this morning on my walk.
I avoided the Farm Loop because of the wind.  Out on the open road up there I would have gotten blown away. : )  So I stayed walking around town which included the two cemeteries and the loop behind the ball park.

I saw Lisa out running.  Haven't seen her for or so month and we stopped for a little chat.  She lives up one of the hills behind my house.

This is the little stream in the woods behind the ball park.

Walking up to one of the cemeteries I heard some Killdeers but it was too dark to see them.  Later on I walked there again when it was light and confirmed it when I saw three of them.

I'm seeing lots of Robins around too now.

I walked 6.2 miles.
☁     ☁     ☁     ☁
The temperature was 52 degrees when I got home and dropped throughout the day and right now it is 36 as I type this and I'm sure will be going lower during the night.

David and the kids were still asleep when I got back from my walk but when they got up I made them French Toast for breakfast.  Scout had asked for that on home made bread.

After breakfast we went Geocaching.  If your unfamiliar with what that is you can learn about it HERE.  There was one up at the Drane House so we took off for a walk there.  We found it under the flag pole.  David is holding the box that we found in the picture. Taryn took the bracelet that was there in the box, we recorded we were there and then put it back.  You are supposed to leave something if you take something but we didn't have anything to leave so tomorrow on my walk I'll put something back in it.

It was near lunchtime when we got back home and David and the kids took off for the afternoon.  Ken went up to Happy Trails and I did some stuff around the house.

They came back supper time.  I made pizza dough and Ken made us two pizzas that we had for supper.

Soon it will be time for ice cream once again.  Both David and Jahpy have the same favorite flavor as me which most of you know is chocolate chip mint.  A perfect flavor for Saint Patrick's Day - green : )

It's been a fun day. : )
Hope your day has been a good one and you smiled often.

A bit of green

Back of the Drane House walking down the road by the school.
Zoomed in just a bit.
 ☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
Left close to my usual time at 6:40 this morning.  It was 42 degrees, windy and dark.  The sun rose at 7:27.  I walked the Farm Loop.  Sure nice walking up that way again.  Left in plenty of time to avoid the school traffic.

None of the cows or horses were around today, at least not where I could see them.

Nice seeing and hearing the birds every morning again.  I saw a Red Winged Blackbird when walking around one of the cemeteries.

The Farm Loop is a 4.2 mile loop from my house so I walked around town to get my full 6 miles in.
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
I've been home today doing a bit of work around the house.  It turned into a beautiful sunny day and in the low 60's so after lunch we went outside in the yard.  I pulled out a rose bush, one of four that I'm getting rid of this year and did a little raking and just checking out things in the yard.
Look what's coming up in my front garden. : )  The first daffodils.
Our son David arrived late this afternoon with his two kids, Scout (11) and Japhy (9) which are of course our grandkids. : ) They are having their spring break and David has them for the week with him in NJ so he came for a visit.  They live in OK.  Nice to see them all again. : )   Having a great visit.

I made David's favorite supper of tuna casserole but instead of using canned tuna I used canned chicken so turned it into chicken casserole.  : )

We watched some old videos after supper and now the kids are downstairs with Ken and the trains.
Soon it will be time for ice cream.

That's it for today.
Hope your day has been a good one.

Favorite Hymn

We sang this hymn at church this morning.
It is Pastor Leatherman's favorite hymn.  : )

 Our Great Savior
Written by J. Wilbur Chapman in 1910

1. Jesus! what a Friend for sinners!
Jesus! Lover of my soul;
Friends may fail me, foes assail me,
He, my Savior, makes me whole.

Chorus
Hallelujah, what a Savior!
Hallelujah! what a Friend!
Saving, helping, keeping, loving,
He is with me to the end.

2.  Jesus! what a Strength in weakness!
Let me hide myself in Him;
Tempted, tried and sometimes failing,
He my Strength, my vict'ry wins.

3.  Jesus! what a Help in sorrow!
While the billows o'er me roll;
Even when my heart is breaking,
He my Comfort, helps my soul.

4.  Jesus! what a Guide and Keeper!
While the tempest still is high,
Storms about me, night o'er take me,
He, my Pilot, hears my cry.

5.  Jesus! I do now receive Him,
more than all in Him I find;
He hath granted me forgiveness,
I am His, and He is mine.

A blessed Sunday to all.

☂     ☂     ☂     ☂

A rainy morning walk today.  Temperature was 48 degrees with a bit of a breeze.  Dressed in my rain pants and yellow slicker.  Left the umbrella home but should have taken it with me because the wind blew the rain into my face where it ran down my neck and  dripped down to my shirt. I was pretty wet by the time I got home.  At least it wasn't cold and I was walking outside.

Walked around town and the cemeteries and the ball park loop, all traces of snow gone from there now.  Then I headed over to the industrial park and then home.

Didn't see anyone else out today.
I walked 6.1 miles.

Had a good time with the ladies last night and my Black and White cookies were a success.  There were a few kinds of soup and my favorite was a homemade chicken noodle.  It might just be the best I've ever eaten.  Someone brought a salad that I really liked.  It had nuts, cranberries, oranges slices mixed in with different kinds of lettuce with a delicious dressing.

It's been a rainy and dreary day and but I've been inside where it is nice and dry doing some cleaning, reading and working on the weave-it square baby blanket.

Hope your Saturday as been a good one and you smiled often.

The morning sky

A beautiful sky this morning.
☁     ☁      ☁     ☁
37 degrees this morning and windy.  Watched the sun come up and it was sunny during my walk.  Thought these clouds looked pretty cool.
Left my new usual time it seems at 7:10 and walked over to the library and dropped off a book in the slot and then continued on over to the Post Office which is only two blocks away and mailed off another Netflix.  By the way, I only have 4 items in my queue and need to pick some more things.  Any one have some good movies or shows to recommend?

Walked all over town this morning, around the cemeteries and the ball park loop.  I saw the woman with the ear phones and we stopped to chat again.  Learned her name is Kathy. : )

The pond down by the Drane House is melting.  Saw a few geese sitting on the ice near the water.
The town pond is still ice covered and walked down around there too.

I walked 6.3 miles.
☁     ☁     ☁     ☁
Home during the day doing this and that around the house.  Just the usual day but a good one.

The clouds chased the sun away mid morning and its been cloudy ever since and it is supposed to rain.

I'll be leaving in a little while for my evening out with the ladies.   I put the Black and White cookies on a pizza tray and 12 of them fit perfectly on it.  I wanted to keep them all in a single layer.  Hopefully they will get there in one piece.

Hope your day was a good one and you smiled often.

Thursday

Horses down by the Drane House
☀     ☀     ☀     ☀
Left the house again at 7:10 and it was 32 degrees, no wind and the sun came out.  A beautiful morning for taking a walk.

I walked all around town and around the two cemeteries and the loop around the ball park.  Also went in the woods by the ball park and walked along the stream.
Its is just a short path and it soon ends here.
I think if I  cross over the stream the woods will end up behind the industrial park but it is on someone's land I don't want to trespass.

I thought I heard a cardinal, looked up and sure enough there he was.
I saw the woman with the ear phones again and today she stopped, she took out her ear phones and we had a little chat. : )  After we continued on our different ways I realized I forgot to ask her name.

I walked 6 miles.
Haven't found any coins in quite a while but today I found a penny in the library parking lot.  : )

Right after breakfast I walked down the street to Sherry's for my hair appointment and my gray roots are once again dark brown.

We never did wash the cars this afternoon.  Though it was a pretty sunny day the air was cold.  Supposed to rain tomorrow anyway and I have to go out in my car tomorrow evening.

I made a double batch of the Black and White cookies.  (Picture and recipe HERE.) The women from church are getting together for dinner and fellowship tomorrow and we are all bringing something.  Thought they might like the cookies.

Finished reading another book, Bertie's Guide to Life and Mothers by Alexander McCall Smith.  It is book number 9 in the 44 Scotland Street series.  I've enjoyed this whole series, but somehow I missed book 8, Sunshine on Scotland Street and will have to read that one too.

Haven't started a new knitting project yet.  I'll be making some weave-it squares for the next few days.

Hope your day was a happy one.

It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot
and the wind blows cold:
when it is summer in the light,
and winter in the shade.

John - If you scroll down you will see a link to the Drane House.
Karen - No, I stopped going to the nursing home.  I didn't feel like I was really making a difference.  It seems they all have family who visit often.  I'm still doing the prison letters though.
