Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.

Jars

Jars of buttons, toys and marbles
♥     ♥     ♥     ♥
37 degrees this morning when I went for my morning walk.  It wasn't raining but everything was wet yet.  Most of the snow was washed away with the rain.

Walked to the post office first and dropped off a letter in the mail slot.

Another walk all over and around town a  couple of times.  Went around the cemeteries a couple of times too and the ball park loop.

The horses came out of the barn down by the Drane House to see me.  I saw a couple of rabbits scampering around too.
My mind wasn't so much on my walk this morning because my step-dad called and we talked a while as I walked.

I walked 6.3 miles.

My mom isn't doing all that well. She also has early stages of Alzheimer's and coming off the medicine for that and the blood thinner for the surgery didn't sit well with her.  She has had a few mini strokes and was in the hospital but coming home today.  They and the doctors are rethinking if she should even have the surgery now.  So right now the prayer is to give all concerned the wisdom to know what is the best thing to do for MY MOM.

I've tried a few times to read the next book for my book club but just can't seem to get into it.  I keep nodding off and then having to read what I just read, so I've decided not to read it.  The book is Some Luck by Jane Smiley.
So I'm now I'm reading 1022 Evergreen Place by Debbie Macomber.

Nice to see the sun come out later in the afternoon.  Seems more like spring today.
Worked out in the yard for a little while cutting back the old daisies from last year.  I can already see the new ones starting.

Home this evening doing our usual.  I'll be reading, making weave-its, watching a bit of television and having my ice cream snack.

Hope your Saturday was happy and bright.

Best friends don't necessarily have to talk every day.
They don't even need to talk for weeks.
But when they do,
it's like they never stopped talking.

I have a few of these kinds of friends
and I talked to two of them today. : )

  5. Keep walking. You will need that more than ever now with your mom's current issues. You might consider bumping it up another mile because your body is so adjusted to 6 miles. As you know, your mom's fate is in the hands of her creator, no matter what man does. Having just lost my own mother in December, I know what a difficult time this is for you. You are in my thoughts.

  7. Prayers for your Mom... I know that postponement was hard for her... That would have been hard for MOST of us.. Too bad that happened... Keep us posted... I'll keep her in my prayers.

Sometimes, there are just certain books that are NOT for us... I wouldn't be worried or upset that that particular book didn't work for you. I don't blame you for putting it down and choosing something else. The key is to keep reading --but let's all read something that appeals to us.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  8. Just got caught up on all your posts I've missed. I have some buttons of my mom's, yours reminded me of them. When her things were gone through, there was a jar of buttons for each gal in the family. Glad you got to spend some time (and eat ice cream) with your grandchildren. I don't know what I'd do if ours were so far away. 2.5 hours is far enough for me. Hope your mom is doing ok.

  11. I am sorry about these concerns with your mother. How good that your step-father is there and that he calls and keeps you informed. Praying now for God's perfect will for your mother. All we know is that Jesus is the answer to every concern.

So nice to have friends like the quote describes, especially at times like this.
