Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Books

A cool cloudy morning for a my walk today. I went around the lake.

I listened to the rest of The Cat Who Knew Shakespeare by Lilian Jackson Brown, read by George Guidall while I cleaned the kitchen. These books are a bit on the silly side but I enjoy listening to them. This was book number 8 in the series.

I also finished reading Daniel X by James Patterson which I didn't like at all.
I only kept reading it because it was just a little book. Its about Daniel who is an alien hunter from outer space who is trying to the save the world from other aliens who are trying to take over the world. It was totally unbelievable!!! The book was more like a short story. I usually like James Patterson but this was really bad.

I have put the new book, The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown on reserve at the library. I'm number 235 on the list.
I'm now down to number 106 for South of Broad by Pat Conroy.

Today is Wednesday and my knitting group night which is called Sip and Knit. I left home early again and had supper there too. This is the forth time I've gone now and I'm remembering some names. I've sat with different people each time I've gone. Everyone is very friendly and I really enjoy the night of knitting and talking. I'm working on my next ripple afghan.
Here are a couple of pictures I took this evening.
As you can see we take up the whole back of Panera's.

I just got home a little while ago.
I'm off to watch a bit of television and have some chocolate chip cookies and milk for my snack.

I hope you enjoyed your Wednesday.

A package arrives in the mail.

Started my day as usual with my morning walk. I'll be starting off in the dark from now on. That's one thing I don't like about this time of year. I didn't walk on any paths today. Walked the sidewalks. Nice for a change.

I wonder why with all the nice sidewalks that we have, some people still like to walk in the street.
With everyone so distracted while driving I prefer to be safer on the sidewalks!

I stopped off at the library on my way to the commissary this morning. I just dropped a book off and left right away. Didn't even look at any books because if I did I just know I'd find more to read. :-)
I didn't need all that much at the commissary so I got to go in the express lane and there was no wait at all. There are some self-check lanes but I stay away from them. I don't have much luck with them!!

The nicest thing came in the mail for me today. I was lucky enough to win a give-a-way from Kim at happy@home. In the box was a cook book for Fall with lots of wonderful recipes in it which I look forward to trying. Also a cute little squirrel holding a couple of acorns which are little salt and pepper shakers. A little candle with the scent of pumpkin spice was also included with a lovely card.
Thanks so much Kim!!
If you have not read Kim's blog please stop by there. She posts wonderful pictures of her beautiful home and is such a happy upbeat blogger. I enjoy her blog very much and I'm happy to call her a friend. :-)

Our weather has turned quite cool and windy so I couldn't sit out on my deck today. Though I did find time to read, I missed sitting on the deck.

Never did get to cleaning the kitchen today - that will be the first thing on my list for tomorrow.

Just finished eating those left over ribs from yesterday with a salad for supper.

I'll have a nice quiet evening at home. Reading, a little television, knitting and I think I'll have some ice cream tonight for my snack. I have some of my favorite which as most of you know is chocolate chip. :-)

I hope you had a good Tuesday and you enjoy the rest of your day.

Karen :-)

Yesterday it was

raining in the morning when I woke up and I just turned over and went back to sleep. The day ended up with lots of sunshine. I went for my walk late afternoon just before supper.
I saw this deer and her baby along one of the paths.
This morning it was dark when I headed out on my walk around the lake, but by the time I got home it was sunny.

I have finished reading, While I'm Falling
by Laura Moriarty
This book is about a family who lives through a divorce. It has some sad and happy parts and all in all I thought it was a good book.

I stayed home during the day and got some cleaning done. I was going to do the whole downstairs but just did the living room. I'll do the kitchen tomorrow.

Dinner for me tonight was at Longhorn - ribs, sweet potato and grilled veggies. I brought the left over ribs home for dinner tomorrow.

This evening I'll watch some television, have some more chocolate chip cookies with milk and then some knitting. Hopefully I'll get a little reading in there somewhere too.

Hope you all is well in your part of the world.

Love

Happy Sunday! I Corinthians 13:4-8 New King James translation Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up. Does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil. Does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth. Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
Have a blessed Sunday. Tell the people you love how much they mean to you. :-)

It started out a nice sunny day so I had a nice morning for walking, then the clouds moved in, and the rain came and its still raining now.

I made a trip to the library to drop off a DVD and a book. Three more books that I have checked out are due on Tuesday. I'll be finished with the one I'm reading now but will have to renew the other two. Then I have 3 more books that are due on different dates. At least I didn't check any more out today!!

I watched some golf on television this afternoon - that is something I don't usually do. I knitted while watching.
I played a few games of solitaire while listening to an audio book (The Cat Who Knew Shakespeare).

I haven't been up in the loft for a while and I spent some time up there today. I'm in the middle of a few projects and got things a bit more organized. Its nice to have a place where you can leave things out until you're finish working on them, but I find I make quite a mess!!

I'm going back to watching Netflix this evening and will watch a couple episodes of Mad Men. I'll eat 4 chocolate chip cookies and have a nice cold glass of milk and then knit.

Hope your Saturday was a happy day for you. Enjoy the rest of your evening.

Karen :-)

A lazy day

This day started out rainy. I walked my 6 miles around the lake with my umbrella. I was surprised to see as many people as I did out walking and running. A few deer were about and the ducks and geese looked perfectly happy in the wet weather.
It cleared up during the day and we ended up with a beautiful cool sunny day.

I didn't do much of anything today - a lazy day for me.
I sat outside quite a while and finished reading
First Friends by Marcia Willett.
The story is set in England and is about two women who are very close friends. With husbands in the Navy away a lot of the time they are left behind to cope with life. I thought it was very good. As with all her books, I laugh and cry and get totally involved with all the characters.

Here is a couple of quotes from the book that I liked.

How easily we delude ourselves, rationalizing and excusing our own failings, whilst seeing the weaknesses of others in such a clear, harsh and unforgiving light.

So often good people are good because they've never been tempted or because they've simply been luckier and it's no real credit to them at all.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Of course I did a bit of knitting too. Every day needs a little knitting in it. :-)
When supper time came around I felt like some good old pizza pie, so I walked across the street and got some. I stayed and ate it there. I don't mind eating there by myself. I sat next to the window and watched people walking by.
When I got back home I sat out on the back deck and started my next library book. I stayed out there reading until I couldn't see any more.
Watched some television while eating 4 of those chocolate chip cookies I baked the other day. I put the cookies in the freezer and then just take four out at a time. This way I can control how many I eat at a time and they last quite a while.
Next, I'll catch up on some blog reading, then watch a little more television and knit. I'm going to watch a show called Numb3rs. Never saw it before.
I hope you enjoyed your Friday.
Till next time.....
Karen :-)
A Date
Yesterday Ken and I went out on a "date."
He showed up at the door with one long stem red rose
and my heart felt happy.
He remembered that I like ONE red rose.
We had a lovely time going out to dinner. :-)
A nice day
A sunny morning though the humidity has crept up there a bit. Cooler air should arrive soon again or so they are predicting.
Started this day as usual with my morning walk. Today I went around the lake.
I went out this morning to the post office - your package has been sent Kim. You should get it in a day or two they tell me.
I went to the library to pick up an audio book they had on hold for me. The next book in the Cat Series by Braun.
I couldn't help but walk past the new book section and picked up a couple more books to read too. Now I have a back load of 6 books from the library. I know I'll have to be renewing some of them, but I like to see them all in a stack just waiting to be read.
A few weeks ago I started volunteering at the library but I decided it was not what I wanted to do. They had me "reading" the foreign language book shelves. Which means I had to straightened them up and make sure all the books were all in order. After a while the numbers all seem to jumble together. I am hoping to find some volunteer work to do through my new church. Which by the way I got a letter from today welcoming me and inviting me back. :-)
I walked over to the store across the street to the Giant to get a few things .
When I got back I popped in the audio book on the computer and listened to that while I baked chocolate chip cookies. I was good and only ate one cookie.
Since I have all those books to read, I went out and sat on the deck out back and read for a while. The sky was a bright blue with white puffy clouds. I just happen to have my camera and took a picture of the sky.
A few of you have asked how I like The Good Wife. I thought it was okay - really just another lawyer show. I probably won't watch any more of the show.
Three weeks ago I started going to a Knit Group which meets every Wednesday evening at Paneras. It's supposed to be from 7 - 9 , but lots of us go early and have supper there as well. It's a fun night of knitting and talking. It's nice because there are no officers, rules or dues to pay. Just a bunch of people meeting to knit and talk. Very informal which is how I like it. Every one is very friendly and new people are always welcome. I'm starting to remember some names. Meeting so many people at once it's hard to remember names but each week I try to remember a couple more.
So, since today is Wednesday I went to the Knit Group. Tonight I left home at 5:30 and was home again at 9:30. Cheryl stopped by to say hi after she got out of work. She'll have to take up knitting one of these days. :-)
When I got back home I watched an episode of Mad Men, which by the way I like a lot. I also ate 4 more of those chocolate chip cookies from this afternoon with a nice cold glass of milk.
I hope you enjoyed your Wednesday.
A cloudy day
with a few peeks of the sun and a drizzle or two also. I walked around the neighborhoods on the paths and some of the streets. My friend Lin called while she was walking too and so we walked together and talked even though we weren't together.
I think I had a senior moment. While I was talking on my cell phone to Lin, I looked down at my cell phone case clipped to my waist and saw that my phone wasn't there and for a second thought I'd lost it!! Then realized I was talking on it. :-)
Though most of the trees are still have their green leaves, some are already changing color on this first day of Fall.
I went out and about this morning to get a few errands done.
One of which was to go to Barnes and Nobles to buy a new Bible.
Pretty colorful isn't it?
I got the larger print version.
My new church uses the New King James version and though I have a few different translations that is the one I didn't have and wanted to have the same translation that they use.
I got the ripple afghan all boxed up and ready for the mail. I'll be going to the post office tomorrow and mailing it out to Kim.
I made tuna casserole for my supper tonight. Haven't made that in quite a while and it was quite tasty.
I don't usually watch network television but there's a new show on tonight that sounded good so I'm going to give it a try. It's called The Good Wife. It's not on until 10:00 so till then, I'm going to watch another episode of Mad Men from Netflix and then read.
I hope your Tuesday was a good one.
Knitting
A beautiful sunny day with a bright blue sky. I've been doing some knitting lately.
Here are some more dish clothes I've made and also another white square.
I have also started on another ripple afghan. Maybe I'll keep this one for myself.
I finished the blue afghan I was making and will be sending it to Kim, one of my blogger friends.
From reading her blog I know that she likes blue and white and this afghan just seems right for her. She didn't know I was making it for her, so I hope Kim, that you are surprised to read it is for you. :-)
My Mom's foot surgery went well. She has to stay off her foot for 24 hours and my Dad is taking good care of her. This day seems to have zoomed by and I haven't done much of anything. I read a little and did some knitting too. After supper I went over to my daughters house and my granddaughter washed my hair for me and then gave my hair a trim. Thanks Taryn you did a great job. Cheryl just cut my hair for me a couple of weeks ago. I told her I wanted just the last bit of the brown cut off and to leave it on the long side. She did a great job but after living with it I realized I wanted it a bit shorter. I watched an episode of Mad Men from Netflix. I'm on the second season, third disc. So Monday comes to an end. I hope your day had a few happy moments scattered throughout. Karen :-) Whoever gossips to you will gossip about you.
I'm Back
It's been just a about a month since I last posted on this blog and I feel the urge to start posting here again, so here I am.
It was pretty chilly here this morning as I went on my morning walk. The sun came out and it was just perfect for walking. I walked over to and around the little wet land pond. I took this picture of the pond with the morning fog.
I have lived in the townhouse for 6 months now and there is a church a couple of blocks from my house. Though I grew up going to church all the time and have been a born again Christian since I've been a little girl, I haven't gone to church in a very long time. I pray and read my Bible daily and always thought that was enough for me. I've been walking past this church almost every day since I've lived here, and during the past few weeks I have been having a feeling that I should go there. Well, today was the day that I listened to that feeling and went. I can't tell you how good it made me feel walking in that church. It was like coming home again. Everyone was so friendly and I felt most welcome. The service had lots of singing in it which I like. The sermon itself reminded me of the sermons from my old church when I was a kid. I didn't feel like I was being preached at but learning things right from the Bible. We are studying Romans - today was Romans 3. I look forward to going back next Sunday morning. I am so glad I walked in that church. :-)
I have just finished reading a book called Love & Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs which I though was excellent. Every one who is married or thinking about getting married should read this book. It really opens your eyes.
I had an craving for some Hot Crispy Beef so I walked over to Hunan Legend and got some take away for supper tonight. There is always left overs so I guess I'll be eating that again for supper tomorrow!
Right now I think I'll go sit out on the deck and do a little knitting until the sun goes down and I can't see.
I want to thank you all for all your kind thoughts, good wishes, and prayers that you have said for Ken and I as we are going through a rough time. Things are improving with us and we are headed in the right direction. Please keep the prayers coming. They always help. :-)
Tomorrow at 6:00 AM my mom is having surgery on her foot - please send up a prayer for her too. Thanks.
I hope your Sunday was a day filled with sunshine.
Karen :-)
As you can see I'm not using happyone anymore but my name. I feel the name happyone is just too much to live up to. I felt like I always had to be happy and lets face it, no one is happy all the time.
