A most enjoyable day

The weather turned a bit chilly this morning, it was 36 degrees, VERY windy and cloudy.  There were very light snow flurries for a time when I walked but if you weren't outside you would never even know it happened. 

I walked up and down the streets in town and a little bit out of town down the main road.  I'm heading back into town here in the picture.

It was very quiet for a Saturday.  The only people I saw out were two fishermen at the little town pond and a few cars. 

I didn't quite make my 6 miles today and walked 5.7.

The reason I didn't walk all 6 miles is because I wanted to be back home no later than 8:00.   And the reason for that is because we had a day out planned and we wanted to leave by 8:30.  Didn't quite make that time though and left at 8:45.
There is a train hobby shop down in Hagerstown (100 miles from home) and they were having a promotion with a local club that Ken wanted to go to. 

Ken bought this Susquehanna locomotive that was on sale. 

He got a few other goodies too, mostly building materials.  I picked out a few things for him also.  I picked out some people and a little kit for him to make a field of sunflowers.  He is going to put a farm somewhere on his layout and I put some black cows in his shopping basket too.  I thought of cow #29 and Charlie. : )

 One of the men from the club had a train layout open house so we went to see his layout.  He has huge basement and the whole thing was trains.  His is mostly track and only has some of it with scenery on it but it was impressive to see.

We also stopped at an antique mall and I got really lucky and found quite a few more blue plates to hang up over top of the kitchen cabinets.  I got all of these for $35.  Prices ranged from $1 to $10.

Our last stop before heading back home was dinner at The Long Horn Steak House.  We don't have one near us so this was a real treat.

When we got home I checked the mail and to top off the day was a Tea Time magazine.

I thought I was going to get the chance to try out those new rubbers this morning because it was supposed the be raining but it was just cloudy when I left.  The temperature was 48 degrees with a bit of a breeze.  It looked and felt like rain though, so I stayed around town again.  I said a little prayer asking God to hold off the rain until I got home.  About 3 miles into my walk  a light rain started and I asked God if He could please hold off the rain for a little while longer and you guessed it, it stopped raining.  : )  The rain continued once I was back home and it's been raining pretty much all day.

I saw a couple of bunnies and heard a woodpecker.
A walker passed through town and a man was fishing at the town pond.

Someone in town decided to try and make the fuel tank in their yard look more than just a big white tank.

I'm liking these warmer walking days.  It no longer takes me 15 minutes to get dressed to go walking.

 Have some saw news.  Just found out that my Uncle Bud, died Wednesday.  He was my father's brother and the youngest of the three brothers and now they are all having a grand reunion in heaven.  He was 91 years old and had a long happy life and family and friends who loved him dearly.  He lived in Arizona and I hadn't seen him quite a few years but he was one of my favorite uncles.

I put some pork chops in the slow cooker and cooked them until they were falling apart tender.  Then shredded them up added some BBQ sauce and cooked them a bit longer.  We will be having them for supper on rolls with macaroni salad that I made this morning.

This afternoon I finished reading 44 Cranberry Point and really enjoyed it.  It ended with me wanting to read the next one, but I have a few other books to read first.  I've started my next book, Still Life With Bread Crumbs by Anna Quindlen which is the next book club selection and have to read by Wednesday.  The book is a large print which I don't need but like.

A package in the mail

Today it was 50 degrees this morning when I walked.  Looked like rain again but it never did.  There was a bit of a wind but with it being that warm it didn't matter.

I walked around the farm loop.  Waved to Farmer Bill as he was just coming out of his house with the two dogs, Oscar and Buster.

Some of the farmers are now working in the fields getting them ready for planting.

I only took this one picture this morning of the two geese here getting a drink. My friend Lin called and we talked for most of my walk. We talk while we are both walking. Always nice catching up with her.

I walked around town too.

I had just gotten home and I saw the mail carrier drive up the driveway and walk to the door with a package.  I met her on the porch.  I got my new rubbers to put on over my shoes.  They  make my feet look pretty big but the rubbers will keep my feet dry for sure.

It is quite a job getting the rubbers on over my shoes and Ken ended up getting it done for me.  I bought a few extra pairs of walking shoes a while back so I just put the rubbers on a pair of new ones and will just keep the rubbers on the shoes so I won't have to struggle with getting them on and off.  Won't have to replace the walking shoes for quite a while because I'll only be wearing them in the rain.

In the package with the rubbers, what I thought was just a Tractor Supply catalog turned out to be their Spring magazine.  It has articles about chickens, horses, farmers markets, cattle auctions, birds, cats and even some recipes.  What a nice surprise.  I look forward to reading it from cover to cover.

Haven't done much cleaning inside the house this week so went around in a whirlwind and got it all done today.  At least all the major stuff.  You know your house is just the right size when you can plug in the vacuum and vacuum the whole house without having to change outlets. : ) 

Then I got to read for a while.  Made some weave-it squares too.

Driving by Deep Creek Lake and seeing all the ice gone makes it officially spring here.  It was frozen most of the winter with a foot of ice.

Beth - Yes, my town is very small, only about 350 people.

Good for 6 months

48 degrees this morning, pretty calm out there but a slight drizzle.  Not enough to take along an umbrella though and I was just slightly damp.  Only had to wear a long sleeve tee shirt and a sweat shirt.

Didn't want to get too far away from the house in case it started raining harder so stayed around town.

 Waved to the usual bus drivers and Joe in his town truck and talked to one of the men who work at the garage in town.  Other than that it was pretty quiet around town.

I noticed my neighbor's lilac bush has some buds on it.  I love lilacs and I'm going to ask EvaJean if I can cut some branches and try to root them so I can have some in my yard too.

I walked 6.2 miles.

Back to Dr Allen this morning for my teeth cleaning.  Happy to say all went well.  Dr Allen and Tammy her assistant go for walks around town when the weather is nice and pass right by my house.  They asked me to join them sometime.  I told them I'd like that and will come out and join them when I see them.  They like the daisies that grow in my yard and  I told them they could pick some for the office whenever they want.

What a pleasant place to go to the dentist. : )

I'm reading the next book in the Cedar Cove series - I'm on the fourth one.  I feel like this series is a soap opera only in book form and I'm enjoying them.

We are going out to Walmart in just a bit to pick up some food and a few other things we need.  We'll stop for a bite to eat for supper while we are out.

The New Dentist

36 degrees this morning when I went out for my walk.  I watched the sun rise and then it was cloudy but calm and eventually the sun came out.  I walked around the farm loop and up and down some of the streets in town.

As I was walking past where Lone Chicken and Friends live, which is in the yard of a day care center, a woman was just getting there and I asked about the chickens because I haven't seen or heard them in a while.  She told me they aren't there anymore because they were given away.  They are all fine and are now living out on a farm.  Though I will miss seeing them I'm happy they have a better life now.

Saw the usual birds and bus drivers but it was really a very quiet morning.  I'm just happy to be out and walking.
I walked 6 miles.
During the month of March I found a quarter, a dime and three pennies - 38 cents.

We had our dental appointments with the new dentist this morning.  Ken's was at 9 and mine at 10.  So nice to just be able to walk a block to get there.  The office is right next to where I get my hair done.  For those of you who are wondering, no, I didn't bring them chocolate chip cookies like I did at our old dentist.  I thought I'd get to know them first.

Well, I love this new dentist!!  Dr Allen is a woman and is just great.  Had a bunch of xrays taken and just an overall checkup.  She found a very little cavity in my front tooth and filled it right then.  Didn't need any shots and didn't feel a thing.  I'm going back tomorrow morning for a cleaning.

We missed our last 6 month checkup with moving and all and it feels really good to get back in the routine of going to the dentist.
As much as I like our old dentist I already like Dr Allen better.

Oh yeah and funny thing, Dr Allen has twin daughters who are in daycare where Lone Chicken lived and has seen me walk by there and we've waved to each other.

It certainly felt like spring here today.  After lunch Ken went out to wash the truck and I did some more yard work.

I cut down a few more rose bushes and all the dead daisies from last year and cleaned up the garden bed.  I noticed that little green leaves of the daisies have already started.

I took a break and sat on the swing.  Ken spotted my there and came over and sat with me for a while.

What a beautiful spring afternoon.
