Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Mantel or Mantle ?

28 degrees this morning, cloudy, with a few snow flurries floating around.
The main road was clear and the side streets were snow covered
but with only a dusting.
I wore my Yaktrax and was fine walking in the snow.

Walked up and down the main road, the cemeteries and the ball park.

Went down to see the bulls and here's my friend I named Spot.

I saw rabbit, deer, bird, and some small animal tracks in the snow.
Didn't see Roger but saw his truck in the parking lot
and then saw his and Andy's (dog) tracks in the snow around the ball park.

I stopped in places and made happy faces in the snow.

After a day of walking in the house it is especially nice to
walk outside again.

Walked 6 miles

Santa is the next Christmas decoration on the way through town.
He hangs in front of the car dealer.

☁️    🙂    ☁️

Did the usual house chores in the morning.

Late morning I baked a cake for Liz's birthday tomorrow.
Her two favorite cakes are
Cheese Cake and
Yellow Cake with Chocolate Icing.
Since we just had a cheese cake for Ken's birthday I went ahead
and made the Yellow Cake.
Looking forward to eating a piece tomorrow!!

Mantel ? or Mantle ?
Thought you might be interested in the spelling.

13 people mentioned my mantel in comments yesterday.
4 people spelled it Mantel and
9 people spelled it Mantle.

When I was typing my post yesterday I wrote mantle but it didn't look right,
but mantel didn't look right either so I looked it up.

Mantel is the spelling for over a fireplace.

Mantle is a cloak or covering.
Mantle is also transfer of power from one to another.
And also Mantle is a thick layer of rock inside the planet.

⛅️
We saw a little bit of sunshine this afternoon and it
did warm up and all the snow is gone again.

That's it for today.
Thanks for stopping my.
Hope your Tuesday was happy one. 🙂

...I can't spell, so I assumed that you spelled in correctly!

Interesting about mantle/mantel. If I got it right it was purely by mistype...LOL. I had not noticed. I wonder if I will remember the right way now.

I used the word mantle incorrectly on my most recent post. I just fixed it. Thanks! 😀

Thanks for the mantle/mantel explanation. I like your friend Spot! Yellow cake sounds like a good choice for the birthday. I'll be making cheesecake for our ladies Christmas party on Friday. Tomorrow we start December. Hard to imagine the year is almost over.

Hi Karen. Happy birthday to Liz tomorrow! Thank you for the spelling lesson. I might be an English teacher, but I am not an especially good speller. Glad you could walk outside today. I hope you have a good Wednesday.

Just like confectioners' sugar! That's what a dusting makes me think of, and makes me hungry! Your first picture surely is pretty. I love your happy faces, but sorry they didn't last longer. I think I stand corrected on mantel; glad to know which is correct in this case.

I ordered a mantel clock a few months ago and on the packaging it said mantle clock. I knew immediately it was the incorrect spelling. Can you imagine a company sending you a product with incorrect spelling? Too funny. The clock works fine though, so there's that. Your entire fireplace and mantel are beautiful btw.

Seems auto correct changes the spelling from el to le. But, well know what it means either way.
Love the Santa and your smiley face in the snow.

Hello,

Pretty snow scenes, I love the cows and Santa too. The yellow cake with chocolate would be my favorite. Happy Birthday to Liz. Cute smiley face.
Have a great day!

Mantel piece or mantle peace?

God bless.

I'm guessing that your smiling face in the snow gave someone a warm-hearted smile on their face :)

Nice reminder on the spelling/meaning of mantel/mantle.
Anymore, I don't take the time that I should correct spelling/vocabulary when I should. I suppose that if the intent is there, then it's ok, as I know what I mean, and what others are trying to say :)

Have a great day!

I had to go look at my comment on yesterday's post and apparently I spelled it wrong! Mantel still doesn't look right to me but oh well, live and learn, right? Love your happy face drawing and I hope it made someone smile!

Spot walked over to say hi.

Well who knew...think I've seen it most generally spelled mantle. You're suppose to learn one new thing a day, so guess I'll go put on my jammies and call the day done, lol. Cheese cake takes a lot more time than yellow cake, so you made a good choice.

Mantel or mantle? I would have spelled it mantle, but I guess that would make me wrong. Never too old to learn something new.

I assumed the mantle/mantel spelling was a Canadian/US variation. Like center and centre which I have trouble remembering which is the Canadian spelling.
I like the white blaze on Spot's forehead. I guess that's why you gave him his name.
Happy Birthday to Liz.
