Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Beautiful Fall Day

Another morning that started out foggy.
42 degrees so time to wear an extra sweatshirt.
Sunrise 7:13
👟 Walked 6 miles 👟

Walked all over town, around both cemeteries and one road
down at the industrial park.

The Drane house in the fog.

The bulls seemed to be happy resting in the farm yard in the fog.

An hour or so later it was sunny with a bright blue sky.

Rebecca and Joy were both out walking this morning.

You can't help but love these clear, crisp, fall mornings.

Stairs Number 4
These concrete stairs are neighbors to yesterdays stairs.

🍁    🍁    🍁

I helped Ken put the last of rocks on the other side of the driveway.
Looks so much better.

But wait there's more.
Now we want to do something with the left side of the lower driveway
which is on the other side of the rock island.

I baked an Apple-Cherry Crisp this morning and haven't even
eaten any of it yet.
That will be my snack this evening instead of ice cream,
though I'll probably have a little scoop on top of the apple crisp.

Finished the last square on the October baby blanket.
Now just have to figure out a pattern and sew them together.

Does anyone know what kind of tree this is?
It has pods that look to me like bear scat with red berries stuck in it.
Picture not the best but the best I could do.

Edit: Tom has identified the tree as a
Also known as a cucumber tree.
Thanks so much Tom.

I've been meaning to tell you how much we like our new bed sheets.
They are microfiber sheets - extremely fine fibers of polyester.
1500 count and the softest sheets I've ever had.
Ordered another set.

And so another day has zoomed by.
Thanks for stopping by.
A happy day to you. 😀

Comment Replies:
Victor - Looked up the difference between fog and mist.
Both are created by water droplets.
Fog is a cloud on ground level, even if that is a hill or mountaintop.
Mist forms whenever water droplets are suspended in air by temperature inversion or a change in humidity.
Fog is denser than mist and tends to last longer.

Tootsie Roll Pops

A foggy start this morning but it wasn't long before the sun came out
and it was a beautiful morning for walking.
Surprised I didn't see anyone else out walking.
It was 47 degrees and calm.
👟 Walked 6.4 miles 👟

Walked around both cemeteries, the ball park, and up and down
the streets in town.

David and Liz stopped to say good morning on their way to work.
They said they could see me a long way off in my bright
green sweatshirt.

Saw a groundhog run under a shed as I walked by.

Driving home there were a few deer around.

Stairs Number Three
Concrete stairs leading to the back yard of a house
on the main road in town.

🍁    🍂     🍁

Did housework in the morning.

We are still working on putting rocks on the other side
of the driveway.  In the morning Ken got two more loads.
After lunch I helped and we did two more.
We should be done with just a few more loads.

Yesterday when we went shopping Ken put a package
of Tootsie Roll Pops in the cart.
Today we sat on the front porch and ate one.
Haven't had one in ages.
I had a grape and Ken had a raspberry.
Would have picked chocolate - but there were none in the package!
Tootsie Pops came out in 1931
The 5 original flavors are
Chocolate
Orange
Grape
Cherry
Raspberry

Back in the house I made a couple of weave-its and then read.

Simple supper tonight of
hot dogs and homemade French fries.

Thanks for stopping by.
A happy day to you. 🙂

Misty Afternoon Walk

Woke up this morning to rain, thunder and lightning.
Don't mind walking in rain but don't walk in thunderstorms.
I turned over and went back to sleep and didn't wake
up till 7:30.

After breakfast we went shopping at the Shop and Save.
Got things put away, did a few things around the house
and then it was lunchtime.

After lunch it looked like the rain had stopped so I decided to have my
morning walk this afternoon. 😀

Left for town at 1:45 for my walk.
It was 62 degrees but the rain hadn't stopped completely
and I walked in a light mist.
Walked around town, the ball park, and the cemeteries.

A pretty red vine growing up a tree.

The corn is completely gone now in the field behind the cemetery
at the top of the hill, but still lots of fields with corn around.

Made a stop at the library to pick up a book that was on hold.
Servants,
A downstairs history of Britain from the
Nineteenth Century to Modern Times
by Lucy Lethbridge

A group of 4 women were walking around the cemeteries.
They were walking very slowly but sure looked like they
were enjoying themselves. 😃

An afternoon walk, though nice, just isn't the same as my morning walk
and I only walked 5 miles.

Stairs Number Two

🍁    🍂    🍁

The four jigsaw puzzles that we ordered to do when the snow comes
this winter arrived today.
Somehow I don't think I'll be able to wait for the snow.

We made burritos supper this evening.
We put chili, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, cheese, some hot sauce,
and sour cream in them.
Another one of our favorite meals.
We have a lot of them!!

Thanks so much for stopping by.
A happy Tuesday to you. 🙂

Start of the Stairs Series

Starting off the week with a beautiful morning for walking.
51 degrees and sunny.
👟 Walked 6 miles 👟

Saw a couple deer as I drove to town.
Walked all over town, up and down all the streets,
both cemeteries and the ball park.

John was out walking and we stopped and talked for some
minutes. Everyone I end up talking too will sooner or later ask
me how far I walk and say they see me all over the place.
Today was when John asked.

Joy was out walking too and we also stopped and talked a bit.
She told me that her and John are neighbors. She went to school
with his daughter.

This car isn't going anywhere!

I walked around taking pictures of stairs around town and have found
quite a good number of them so far.
Didn't think I'd find so many interesting stairs.
I have always said either STEPS or STAIRS when referring to STAIRS
but have realized that is not right.
Steps are what you take up the Stairs.

The Stairs Series starts today.
Number One
I like the green chair on the porch.

🍁    🍁    🍁

Ken and I walked around the boarder of Happy Trails and put up 50 Posted signs.
Wish the deer could read so they would know they were safe
from the hunters.
Don't have a problem with hunters just don't want them walking
around on our property.

Last week I ordered bed sheets on line and they arrived Saturday.
Today they got washed, hung out on the line to dry,
and then made the bed.
They are a nice bright yellow.
Ken says they will keep us awake - I told him to close his eyes. 😎

Caron yarn (which I use for the baby blankets) was on sale at
Herrschner's on line so I bought a bunch of skeins - 25 to be exact.
That should be enough for quite a few blankets.
Got a good variety of colors.

Made a few weave-it squares for the current blanket
and then read.  I'm liking The Amazing Adventures of 4 cent Ned
but didn't realize at first that there were 8 other books so far
in the series.  I can't imagine 8 more books of it though so will
probably just read the first one.

That's it for today.
A happy day to you.😀
Thanks for stopping by.

Sky and Verse

 Happy Sunday

The morning sky a couple of days ago.

The sky last evening from the front porch.
Once the leaves fall off the trees the views will get better.

📖    📖

Isaiah 43:10
Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord,
and my servant whom I have chosen:
that ye may know and believe me,
and understand that I am he:

neither shall there be after me.

Saturday

Started walking at 6:35 this morning.
It was 45 degrees and mostly clear.
Once the sun rose there was a mix of sun and clouds.
Sunrise 7:08
👟 Walked 6 miles 👟
Found a penny
💰

Saw John at the start of my walk and Rebecca near the end.

Another nice crisp morning walk around town.
Walked around the industrial park.
Went around one of the cemeteries and the ball park loop.

Picture taken from the industrial park road.

I came up with another idea while walking for the next series
instead of the street sign idea.
STEPS/STAIRS

🍁    🍁    🍁

We had a couple of those Honey Raisin Bran Muffins for breakfast.
We liked them even more today when they weren't warm.

We took our trash to the dump.
Had a little extra besides the household trash because Ken
has been clearing out of the garage and wood shop.
On the way home we stopped at the lumber yard and the Dollar General.
Then back home for the rest of the day.

📖    📖

I started reading The Amazing Adventures of 4¢ Ned.
Came across this review and it explains it so much better than I could.

"The Amazing Adventures of 4¢ Ned (Coinworld: Book One) by Benjamin Laskin is a humorous tale, something quite unique and extraordinary. I can honestly say that I have never in my long reading life come across another book quite like it. Mr. Laskin has the knack of bringing inanimate objects to life, of giving them their own personalities and making you believe that, yes, coins do have a life of their own! This is one of those stories that you just can't help but be drawn into; it's fun, it's an escape from reality and it's a tale of self-fulfillment of finding out what your true purpose in life is. Trust me when I say that you will look at the coins in your pocket in a completely different light after reading this!"
--Readers' Favorite, Anne-Marie Reynolds - 5 stars

📖    📖

Did some document shredding this afternoon.
All was going fine and then all of a sudden the shredder quit working.
Ken played around with it trying to get it to work but
couldn't fix it. Will have to buy a new one.

We had fish and chips for supper.
It had been a while so it was extra good.

That's all I have for today.
Thanks for stopping by.
A happy Saturday to you. 🙂

Crisp Fall Morning

45 degrees and clear this morning when I walked.
Nice to see the sun come out.
It was a sunny, cool, crisp, fall day - perfect walking weather.
Saw Joy out walking and we were surprised not to
see others out as well.

Morning Moon

Walked all over town.
Quiet - nothing going on this morning
but what a glorious start to the day.

There were a whole bunch of mushrooms here in the grass.

Walking around town trying to come up with another series
of pictures.  Probably will do all the different street names in town.
Will start on Monday.

👟 Walked 6 miles 👟

☀️    🍁    ☀️
Did the usual morning house chores and then made some
Honey Raisin Bran Muffins this morning.
Just taking them out of the oven when David and Liz stopped by.
They each had one and I gave them some to with them.
Now I won't be tempted to eat too many.

Got quite a lot of weave-it squares made this afternoon.
I was using a dark color yarn and it so much easier to see
during the day.  I'll make some light colors later when watching TV.

It was a bit too cool to sit out on the front porch
so sat out on the deck.  There, it is out of the wind and in the sun.

That's it for today.
Thanks for stopping by.
A happy day to you. 🙂

To Bedford and back

This morning it was 52 degrees.
When I started walking it was cloudy with just a small chance of rain.
Had a very random walk all around town.

Rebecca and Joy were out walking too.

Went down to see the bulls.
Haven't posted a picture of them lately so here's one today.
Still the same two.  (#60 and 61)

The field behind the cemetery on the hill is where they
they started on harvesting the corn.

After walking a mile a light mist started and it was on again
off again for a while.
At one point the sun popped out and I thought it would clear up.

But it only lasted a minute before the misty rain started again.
After about 4 1/2 miles into my walk it started getting windy
and then it just rained.
Headed back to the Jeep to go home but when I
got to the Jeep I just kept walking
and finished up my 6 miles. 👟

I've finished the garden shed series but when I walked past
this yard the other day I thought,
they could sure use a nice big shed.

🍁    🍁    🍁

We left after breakfast pulling the church trailer and drove to
Bedford, Pa.
Nice and sunny there and 10 degrees warmer.
Unloaded the trailer and got the new pallet loaded in the trailer.
I didn't have to lift those heavy boxes this time.
There were a couple of men there to help Ken. 😀
Thanks Matt and Dan.

Stopped at Wendy's on the way back for lunch.
Delivered the trailer back to church and then home again.
It was a pleasant trip there and back.
Now we are all set for the next Fingerprint day.

That pretty much took care of the day.
We had pizza for supper - we made two last time and ate the
one we froze this evening.
Very handy!!

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by.
Hope your day was a happy one. 🙂

Last of the sheds

🌧 This morning I had a rainy walk. 🌧
It rained the whole time I was out.
61 degrees
Wore my rain pants and yellow slicker.
Was a bit warm so unzipped my slicker once in a while to get
cool so I also got a bit wet.
Oh well, still a nice walk.

Walked all over town and around both cemeteries and the ball park.
It was just me out there walking this morning.
Didn't even see any animals.
👟  Walked 6 miles 👟

Today is the last picture in the Garden Shed series.
These NEW garden sheds sit in a lot next to the Rolling Pin Bakery
waiting for owners.

🍁    🍁

After lunch we went to church and picked up the church trailer.
Tomorrow we head out to Bedford, Pa to pick up the next pallet
of scriptures (the book of James) to put together on the next
Fingerprint Day.

Didn't do much today except read and I finished reading
The Identicals by Elin Hilerbrand
It was pretty good but predictable.
Probably won't read any more of her books.

That's it for today.
Hope your day was a happy one. 🙂

Tuesday

Got starting walking a little later this morning.
Fell back to sleep and didn't get up till 6:40 but was in town
walking by 7:00.
It was 59 degrees, cloudy and quite breezy.
Looked like rain but it stayed dry.
Sunrise 7:04
👟 Walked 6 miles 👟

Another nice walk all around town.

Looks like work is about to begin in the field.
Maybe harvesting the corn though they usually wait till it
is all dried out.

A pasture in the process of being mowed.
Now the little ponies will be easier to spot. 🙂

John, Rebecca, and Joy were all out walking around town too.

Garden Shed Number 20
Looks like a mini barn

🍂    🍁    🍄

Food shopping day at the Shop and Save this morning.
Like to get that over with first thing!

Got more house chores done before lunch.

A few pictures of our deer and baby.

Yesterday a cattle trailer came and took away some of the
cows and bulls from the farm next door.
Today we hear the mothers crying for their little ones.
Such a sad sound.

We worked some more with the rocks on the other side of the driveway.

Read a little this afternoon and knitted too.
Still working on the white blanket.
Had some rain late in the day.

Thanks for stopping by.
Smile and be happy. 🙂

Pumpkin on a fence

60 degrees this morning with a touch of fog around.
A mix of sun and clouds.

There was just enough of a breeze to hear the rustling of the corn.

A most delightful walk around town this morning.

With the old red truck gone now there is an old
red tractor in that spot for sale.

Went down to see the bulls.  Still just the two of them there.

The only person I saw today walking was Margaret.
Pretty quiet for a Monday.

👟 Walked 6 miles 👟

Garden Shed Number 19 - looks new

🌼    🌼    🌼

Pancake breakfast today.

Ken went outside this morning and did some more rock
gathering for the other side of the driveway.
I stayed inside getting started on the weekly housework.

After lunch I did some rock work with Ken.

A little sitting time on the porch
and then inside to read before supper.
Monday just zipped by.

Thanks for stopping by.

Morning Sky and a hymn

 Happy Sunday
A couple of morning skies while walking this week.

🎶Sweet Hour of Prayer 🎶

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
The joys I feel, the bliss I share,
Of those whose anxious spirits burn
With strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
Where God my Savior shows His face,
And gladly take my station there,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
Thy wings shall my petition bear
To Him whose truth and faithfulness
Engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since He bids me seek His face,
Believe His Word and trust His grace,
I’ll cast on Him my every care,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
May I thy consolation share,
Till, from Mount Pisgah’s lofty height,
I view my home and take my flight:
This robe of flesh I’ll drop and rise
To seize the everlasting prize;
And shout, while passing through the air,
Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!

you are a stranger to the greatest power known to human beings.

Saturday

First what to say Thank You for all the kind
comments about the 'Island'.

61 degrees this morning and some fog around as I started walking.
Walked 6 miles and by that time it was sunny out.

Walking down the main road in town, a car slows down
and I hear, Good Morning, I see you every morning.
I had just enough time to say good morning back as she
continued down the road.
I can't count how often that has happened.

Walked around town and around the industrial park.
Don't usually see anyone walking there but today
Rebecca was there.
John was out walking his dog again today.

This old truck has been for sale a while now.
(Ken would love to have it)
It was sitting there today as I walked by.

Walked down the road some more and then turned around
and on the way back a couple of guys were loading the
truck on tow truck.  Guess it was sold.

Only walked around one of the cemeteries today,
ran out of miles.

👟    👟    👟

Garden Shed Number 18
Looks like another shed is needed for the overflow.

🌼     🌼

I did a few house chores while Ken was busy cleaning
out his wood shop.

After lunch I was outside.
Weeded a little,
transplanted a couple of marigolds,
and walked around a bit.
Then time for a little knitting and reading.

That's it for today.
Thanks for stopping by.
