Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

August Challenge

59 degrees this morning under cloudy skies and calm
when I left the house on my walk to town.

Just down the road from the house a few deer stop
to eat some apples that fell off the tree.

When I got to town walked around both of the cemeteries.
Remember the house getting the deck/sun room or addition put on it?
Well it is done and it ended up being a very nice back porch.

Walked around town and past the library and then over to the
ball park and walked around there too.
Back to the main road, down the street past our old house
and then over to the industrial park and walked around there.

Then it was over to the parking lot of the Dollar General where
Ken was waiting for me and I got a ride home.
Ken had to pick up a new saw blade at the lumber yard in town.

Oh no this is way too early.

Didn't see anyone else out walking, a very quiet Monday morning.

Walked 6.2 miles

☁️     🙂     ☁️

Ken went to the other side of Happy Trails where his wood shop is
to cut some metal pieces for the raised garden beds he is making pretty.

I planned on getting some housework done this morning
but it cleared up and the sun came out so I went outside instead.
Got some weeding done out front.  Don't have many gardens to weed
but I have to weed the gravel around the house.
It is very easy to weed though, and the weeds comes right out.
I try to walk a round most days and pull them,
but haven't for a while so had more to do than usual.

After lunch Ken finished working on our two raised beds.
We only had one this year and just moved the other
out front so it is empty.  Next year we'll have plants growing in it as well.

He used left over material from the house so it matches.
I think they turned out great.
Took the picture from the front porch.

Clouded up in the afternoon again and I got
a good start on my housework for the week.
I'm surprised the cleaning got done because usually if I don't
do it in the morning it doesn't get done that day!

Then sat on the porch for a while with Ken,
than time for reading.

I've joined ellen b, The Happy Wanderer, in her challenge for the month of August to post a Bible verse each day.

Day 1.  Hope -  Now the God of HOPE fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in HOPE, through the power of the Holy Ghost.  Romans 15:13 KJV

Day 2.  Peace - And the PEACE of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your heart and minds through Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:7. KJV

Day 3. Joy - Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see not, yet believing, ye rejoice with JOY unspeakable and full of glory.  I Peter 1:8 KJV

That's all for today.
Thanks for stopping by.
A happy day to you.

Love those raised beds...those deer are so cute. I LOVE the new porch. I saw bright red sumac, too, a couple weeks ago. I could not believe it. And we have had plenty of rain so it is not it being a dry season.

...I love sumac, but I'm not quite ready for its fall color quite yet.

The raised beds turned out very nice. I wonder if the deer will leave the vegetables alone!! Or maybe think you made a salad bar just for them.

Hi Karen- The Raised Beds as a Vegetable Garden looks good- Ken has done a good job. I've often thought about it as here many gardeners use Corrugated Iron to form the Beds...almost to waste height - the Beds can be bought Commercially too. Regards. KEV.

The raised garden boxes are gorgeous!!
Last month I didn't exercise at all ~ I have a lot of excuses.
In August I have committed to 5 hikes, probably not the miles that you do, but something. : )

The back porch on that house turned out cute, they'll have a nice cozy spot to watch the deer.
Your challenge is nice. I was thinking that I need to invest in a new bible.. or maybe pull out my grandma's giant bible for easy reading.

Have a great day.

Every time I read your posts, I think of one of those Hallmark movies. The quiet country scenes where everyone walks around and knows everyone in a small town. Everything is so pretty.

I didn't know that Ellen was doing that. Obviously, I am not visiting regularly. That's true for all my blog friends. Yes, it is much too early for the sumac to be showing colors.

Yes, way too early for leaves to turn! I used to pull weeds from gravel we had on the side of our old house. There's something very satisfying when they come right out roots and all, isn't there?

Yay for apples for the deer! Ken has done a beautiful job on those raised beds! Our poplar tree has begun to show a yellow leaf or two. It’s usually about this time of year that happens.
