Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Wednesday

This morning walking to town it was 64 degrees.
Calm again but a couple of low clouds to walk through
before seeing the sun in town.

Saw the usual deer and this one picked his head up to look at me.

Thought he would run away as I got closer but he stayed right
where he was and I got a better picture.
You'll have to click to make the picture bigger
to see the two little bumps that are the start of his antlers.

After I passed he just went back to eating.

Once I got to town, just made one big loop around the side streets.
The second building up the road on the right is the
fire house and beyond that the post office.

Made my way back to the main road and home I went.

No one else out walking this morning,
but got the usual waves from trucks and cars passing by.

A house on the way to town is getting a new roof put on
and the crew were already at work on my way to town.

Walked 5.4 miles

🌤     🙂    🌤

This morning Ken and I were outside doing a bit of work out front.
Ken playing around with more stone work.
I filled a big flower pot with dirt and planted
a sunflower in it.
Doesn't look so great right now.
Hoping it will perk up by tomorrow.
I won't try to plant sunflowers around here anymore.
Found out it was the birds picking at the new plants not
the chipmunks like I thought.

I had some rhubarb plants that used to do great in years past
but this year I got thin little skinny stalks.
I transplanted three plants into a raised garden bed.
I'm sure next year I'll have plenty of delicious rhubarb.

After lunch we puttered about inside except for sitting out on the
porch a couple times.

The sky is dark and I can hear thunder.
Waiting for the rain to get here.

That's been my day.
Thanks for stopping by.

I wonder if that deer has seen you walking before and knows that you are safe and not to be feared. We've been waiting all day for it to rain. It gets dark and clouds up and we hear rumbles of thunder, but so far no rain. The sun is shining right now... a very strange day.

...I think that you will find that dividing your rhubarb will help to produce larger stems. After a while the plants get too crowded.

What a pretty glad!
I made a rhubarb pie from my little crop today. I used gluten free flour and it turned out pretty good! Doesn't it take two years to establish?

Fun that you see deer so often. Since you are out there by yourself, you probably hear your own footsteps. Love the flower. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

Hi! We occasionally have deer across the back of our property. They will come between ours and the neighbor's houses, cross the street, proceed across properties there, heading for the large field behind them, I imagine. Good for taking time to sit on the porch!

I love all the wildlife you have around you. That is so cool. I can just picture you sitting on your porch with the skies gray and the thunder rumbling. Lovely. See you again tomorrow.

Is that a hollyhock???? It is gorgeous. How nice for the deer to cooperate with you...that would have been such a good start to the day.

Oh pretty hollyhock. You may have to do a bit of research on the best plants for your deer friendly yard. I have read that deer don't like hollyhocks. It always took my rhubarb a few years to establish itself. It always does best in the years I remember to fertilize it when it first comes up. Speaking of which, I need to be harvesting some before the heat of the day tomorrow. Guess I'll be up early, but I don't want to see any deer.

Is that a Hollyhock, or a Gladiola? Either way it's lovely.
My rhubarb has spindly stalks too but I blame it on the partial shade it grows in.

Hi Karen- Nice photos of the Deer. Good that your receiving nice days despite thunderstorms. I like Thunderstorms - especially at night- even electrical storms are good lighting up the night sky- pure magic! My dad use to say about the Storms;'It was God moving the furniture around"...this saying has always stayed with me- Dad passed away some 27 years ago- he was 84. Best Wishes. KEV.

Very pretty flowers. It's wonderful that you see deer frequently and they stop to watch you too. Have a wonderful day.
When I was out walking this morning, I thought of you when I saw two orphaned gloves. :)

I'm quite behind because of our city company. My grandniece was so thrilled to see deer in our yard. That pink flower is a beauty!
