Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Outside Work

A cloudy morning, 65 degrees and calm as I walked to town.

Saw the doe and her fawn again along the main road as well as a few other deer and a couple of little bunnies.

Walked around both cemeteries a couple of times and home again.

Saw Lena, Lisa, and Wayne out walking.

The sky looked like a bunch cotton balls stuck together this morning.

Walked 5.7 miles

We had a working outside day today. Ken hooked up our little dump trailer to the truck and we left for the stone place and got a couple tons of gravel.  We put it out back by the deck and the wall and covered up a drain pipe. Also did some weeding.

Before

After

Our three deer were resting out back while we worked.  They stayed there for hours and weren't bothered by us.

Afterward I sat on the edge of the deck and they got up and started walking around, eating, and getting a drink.
They like to stop at the bird bath for a drink so I filled a
large galvanized bucket with water so it would be easier for them. They use it all the time. There is a third deer farther back but hard to see because it is dark in the woods. Really cool to be so close to the deer.

Started reading the first Miss Read book and I do like it and plan to read the series.

That's all I've got for today.
Thanks for stopping by.
A happy day to you.

GrannyM - Yes, I can walk under the clothes line.  The line is high so I can just reach it.

Brenda - I have read the Miss Julia books and liked them.  Haven't read all of them though and can't remember where I left off.

I love your back yard...all those stacked rocks...and the deck looks so nice. Keep meaning to comment on how nice that must be to step out and hang your laundry.

You sure have lots of rock to work with. It looks so neat and pretty where you added the gravel. Good idea putting the bucket out for the deer. I love to see deer around the pond.

How nice of you for providing water for the deer. Nice work with that gravel. We could use a couple of good loads to finish off some low areas. Good use of the rock, too. Sounds so peaceful at your place!

Hello,

It is cool to see the deer so close, they do feel safe there.
Your deck and yard look nice. I have to see if my library has the Miss Read series. Enjoy your day, have a great weekend.

Glad you enjoy the Miss Julia and the Miss Read. I may order some of the latter from Amazon later this year...library only had a few...love your new deck and clothes line...you seem to live almost in Walden...I do walk 5 plus miles a day...sometimes using cane...some not...however...no more than one at a time-around the buildings outside and inside...have done this for a year plus...would not venture far...love love your blog...one of the few I have continued to read...and respond to...during this time...day 140 isolation for me today.

Hi Karen- The back of your home around the Decking now looks complete with the gravel you and Ken have placed. I do like the 'stepping stones' too. Cheers. KEV. (Sydney- Australia).

Incredible, beautiful work you're doing. The deer seem to be trusting of you. Just hope that trust doesn't backfire for them with some fool with a rifle!
