Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Long River Bridge

Time was 6:38 when I left this walking this morning.
A mix of clouds and sun, calm and 44 degrees.
Sunrise 6:55

A nice uneventful walk to town.
Went down the main road and to the post office to mail a letter.
Then past the day care center and up the hill to the cemetery
and around there a few times.
Back to the main road and home.

Saw Rebecca out walking and we stopped for a chat.
An old gentleman I see once in a while was out walking too.
He stopped in at the bakery for some donuts.

Driving back from NC we stopped at the New River Bridge in West Virginia
after driving over it.
It is a rest area and also there is a little museum about
the building of the bridge.

We walked down the path to here

then continued on down all these stairs.

At the end of the stairs I took these pictures.
What beautiful views standing there looking around.

After spending some time just looking we walked back
up all those stairs.

Some facts about the Bridge.

🌉     🌉

Stayed home today and got some housework done.

After lunch just puttered about doing this and that.

We got another DVD from the library yesterday and last night watched
the first 2 episodes of Scott and Bailey, a British mystery series.
We both liked it.

That's it for today.
Thanks for stopping by.
A happy day to you.

That bridge is fantastic...and the views are awesome. But back to the bridge...imagine the people building it! I could not have did it. But it sure is pretty.

That is quite an amazing bridge!!
I remember watching the Scott and Bailey mystery series on TV some years back. I think it's the same one. We enjoyed the first ones but after a while the episodes changed and we felt uncomfortable watching them.

I love your first picture. It is so 3-D. Good thing you are in great shape for walking up and down all those steps! I can only imagine how spectacular these scenes would be in fall.

A fascinating bridge. And how wonderful that they have built those stairs so that people can get a better look and a different perspective.

And how blessed you are to be fit enough to go up and down them - must be all that walking you do (smile).

That bridge! 😳

It reminds me of the bridge they built by the Hoover Dam in Nevada. High and huge and scary!

Dear Karen, Thank you for giving us the beautiful and serene outlook of the New River Bridge. I have been wanting to visit this bridge and reading your article definitely has kindled the need to visit for sure. The stairs leading to such a spectacular view of the bridge from a perspective that is so amazing has been captured so extraordinarily by you. Highly appreciate you also giving us the ancient picture while the bridge was being built.

Thanks for sharing the picture of the long river bridge. It is truly amazing to see the megastructure in place with so much perfection. It is indeed an engineering marvel. There is a similar old bridge on the river near Music Institute Coimbatore , but not so big.
