Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

How to move a very heavy object

66 degrees and calm with sunshine and low hanging clouds this morning.
It has been like this for quite a few mornings now.
Walked the Hilly Loop again.
Turned around when I got to the top of this hill and snapped
a picture, just walked up out of the cloud.
All the usual deer running around again, saw a few chipmunks, and a
dead raccoon that didn't quite make it across the road.

An old building RIGHT on the road.
Coming up to it.
Passed and turned around to take this side of it.
A river runs behind it so I'm guessing it was some kind of mill.
It is right across the street from the big white house.

Walking up the mile long hill I saw Lisa running down it.

That little stinker of a calf was out again.
Ken was sitting on the porch when I got home and we chased him back
inside the pasture.  We no sooner got back on the porch
and he was out again.
That cattle guard just doesn't keep him out.

Walked 5.2 miles

We had one more big item to move from the old house to the new house.
A VERY heavy safe which had to come up out of the basement.
It was just too heavy for the two of us to bring it up the stairs even
with a hand truck.
Ken came up with a good plan.
Here it sits at the bottom of the stairs.
He hooked up a cable from the tractor and secured it around the safe and
put planks on the stairs.
Then just pulled it up along the planks with the tractor.
Used the front loader to bring it over to the truck.

and placed it in the bed of the truck.
I was quite impressed with his plan.

This afternoon another thunderstorm rolled on by and what a lot
of rain it brought along.  Lots of wind too.  It soon passed and the
sun came out again.

Puttered around outside while Ken made a couple more shelves for
the garage.

Didn't go for pizza yet this week so decided to go to Brenda's
to for supper.  I smells so good just walking in the door.

Hope you found the joy in your day.

...when moving things, use your head and not your back!

Now that was the smart way to do it! My sister left behind the old safe...made me kinda upset.

That is a very heavy duty safe. I'm impressed. There is no way I could have one of those in my apartment though. I've got a very small one that is quite heavy for me. Enjoy the rest of your week.

I just love your misty pictures. Good idea on moving that heavy item.At least a tractor won't get. a sore back from the heavy lifting, humans might.

That is a curious building, the one that may have been a mill. Maybe one day you'll find out if it was a mill and if so what kind.

Love the old building.

Would it have been easier to empty the safe first?

God bless.

What? Push with your head?

God bless you, Tom.

Hello,
That is funny about the cow, he must like to roam free. The old mill is cool. Love the first view and photo. Great idea for moving the safe. Happy Friday, enjoy your day and weekend!

Good job, Ken!
It's easy to understand how there is a niche for safe movers, piano movers, and the like.
Pizza sounds like a good dinner. We've been eating lots of squash for dinner here :)

Have a great day!

p.s. Great old mill!!

Great way to move that safe! I'm glad that's done. The old mill is fascinating. It reminds me of the old structures at Cades Cove in the Smoky Mts Nat'l Park. Have a good weekend.

The house nearly sitting on the road is a photographer's dream...wow, how I love to get some shots of it. It does look like part of an old mill. That was a super plan to move the safe. Our son has one just like it. Enjoy your weekend, Karen!
