Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Friday

The above picture was taken this morning as well as the picture below.
Interesting looking sky
⛅     ⛅
The temperature was up to 65 this morning when I walked.
A mix of sun and clouds and a bit of a breeze kept things nice and cool.

Walked first to the library and dropped off the latest book in the book drop.
Next stop the post office to mail off a birthday card for Scout,
one of my granddaughters.
Continued around town, the cemeteries and ball park loop.
Don't usually walk up by the school unless I'm walking around the
Farm Loop but went up the hill to the school and back to town again.
Rebeca was out running again and I met up with Kathy again around
the ball park loop.
Another woman who I didn't know was out running by the school and I stopped
to say hi.  She is visiting here in town and was out for her morning run.

At a house at the edge of town a couple of women were setting up
for a yard sale.  Probably be quite a few of them around this weekend
with the tourists coming up for the holiday weekend.

Always nice to start the morning with a walk.
Walked 6.5 miles
⛅     ⛅
Hung around home most of the day.  I changed the dishes on my hutch
around and now have all yellow and cobalt blue Fiestaware on it.

Late afternoon we took the small dump trailer loaded with some
logs from HT over to a park for some friends to use in the outside fire pit
for the party they are having for their daughter tonight.

Started reading Every Secret Thing by Laura Lippman and I liked
it right away so I'm off now to read some more of it.

A happy day to you.

Another sunny day

🚴     🚴
This morning it was 55 degrees with the sun shining and a slight
breeze on my walk.  Another beautiful morning.

Walked the streets behind my house.
Up and down the streets it town and around both cemeteries and the
ball park loop.

Saw Kathy's car but never did see her.  Rebeca was out running today.  I usually
see her walking her little white dog.  We came across each other
three times as we walked and ran around town.
Another man was out running around town too but I don't know him.

Times passes swiftly when walking and I can't believe when the hour
and a half is over and I head back home.

Walked 6.2 miles
 🚶     🚶
Spent a little time this morning doing a bit more weeding.
After lunch we went to Walmart and did some shopping.

I finished reading my book this afternoon, News of the World by Paulette Jiles.
It is the next book club selection.
This was a good one with a good ending.
A young girl was kidnapped and raised for 6 years with the Kiowa.
Captain Jefferson Kidd delivers her back to her relatives 400 miles away.
This is their story.

I've started reading one of my Nancy Drew books,
The Secret of Red Gate Farm.
I have quite a few of them in my collection and every once in a while
I read one of them.  They are corny but fun to read.

I made one of those salads for supper that Ken and I like so much.
This time I added chicken to it too.
It was a delicious supper.

A happy day to you.

Front yard daisies

🌾     🌾
This morning at 6:35 when I walked out the door to start my walk
it was 45 degrees and I could actually see my breath.
It was also sunny which made it great for walking.

Walked the Farm Loop.
A chicken along my route.
Farther along this cow peeked over the fence as I walked by.
Once I was back in town I saw Kathy and we walked around the ball park
loop together.  Then she continued her walk and I walked home.
Walked 6.1 miles
🐝     🐝
Got another load of laundry done and hung out to dry.
We drove down to LaVale late morning and got a few errands done and
had lunch at Wendy's while we were there.

This afternoon I did some reading and sat out on the porch.

The daisies in my front yard are just about to burst into bloom and this
one just couldn't wait for the others.
 A happy day to you.

Soap suds

📌     📌
Comment Replies:
Connie - No, I never ate zucchini blossoms, it never occurred to me that you could. 😊

Karen - No, I never had a paying job outside the home.  I was a stay at home mom and was the one who always helped the teacher out.  I did work in the school library when my kids were young but it was as a volunteer.  I also delivered Meals On Wheels  and was the route chairperson for 15 years.
📌     📌
Another morning when the temperature was 49 degrees and it stayed pretty
cool all day long.  Mostly cloudy on my walk but did see a little sun too.

Walked the Farm Loop.
Farmer Bill was out and I stopped to talk to him for a bit.

I saw that stuff that looks like soap suds on some plants along the side of
the road again.  I tried to find out what it is and I think it is made by Spittle bugs.
Though this seems bigger and denser than what I could find on line.
I also spotted this dead snapping turtle on the side of the road up in the
grass a little way.  At first I thought it got hit by a car but it looks like
it died right there while laying eggs because you can see an egg.
Looks like someone smashed it.  Poor thing.
Once I got back to town I saw Kathy and walked a little way with her.

Walked 6.4 miles
🐢     🐢
I stayed home again while Ken went up to Happy Trails.
I baked another batch of chocolate chippers for Bible Time,
that's 10 dozen now.  Half way there.

Finished up my house cleaning, at least for this week.
It never really gets done.

A happy day to you.

Work Day

Linking up with the Barn Selective series over at Tom's.
I took this picture in PA last Thursday as I was driving to Whispering Pines.
🚜     🚜
This morning it was a nice 49 degrees and sunny as I left on my walk at 6:20.
Up to 56 when I got back home.

No special route this morning, just walked all over the place in no
particular order.  I like these random walks.

Kathy was out walking today and also saw a runner who I see every once
in a while on nice days.  Lee was out riding his bike and stopped to say HI
and gave me a couple of those peppermints that I like.

The big rolling pin is hanging outside over the door and windows at the Bakery/Deli.
(It seemed bigger when it was on the floor inside.)
Still quite a lot of work left to do inside.
The chickens over at the day care center were let out of their chicken coop
and were enjoying wandering around the yard.
It sure was a pretty morning to be out walking.
Walked 6.4 miles
🐓     🐓
Ken left after breakfast to spend the day up at Happy Trails.
I had to stay home and get some housework done.
A sunny day with a breeze makes a good day for the laundry and I got 4 loads
washed and hung up on the line.  Clothes dried fast and one load was dry when
I brought out the next load to hang up.

Cleaned inside till lunch time and after lunch I went outside and
mowed the lawn.  Then weeded just till I filled the bucket once.
I am happy to report that the zucchini plants in my garden now have blossoms.
The cucumbers have a couple of blossoms too but didn't take a picture.

Went back inside at 2:30 and folded all the laundry, put the clean sheets back on the bed, washed dishes, and got a bit more cleaning done and by 3:30 I called it quits
for the day and sat out on the front porch to read but just sitting there I was
a bit chilly so came back inside to read.  Only made it in the 60's today but
it was sunny and bright.

We decided to go the Brenda's for salads and pizza for supper.
No more half price pizza on Mondays now that the tourists have arrived.
When we got back home we walked around the yard looking at the gardens
before coming inside.

Busy days go by fast but I feel good that I got stuff done.

A happy day to you.

He Maketh No Mistake

He Maketh No Mistake

My Father's way may twist and turn,
My heart may throb and ache;
But in my soul I'm glad I know He maketh no mistake.

My cherished plans may go astray,
My hopes may fade away,
But still I'll trust my Lord to lead,
For He doth know the way.

Though night be dark, and it may seem
That day will never break,
I'll pin my faith, my all in Him;
He maketh no mistake.

There's so much now I cannot see,
My eyesight's far too dim;
But come what may, I'll simply trust
And leave it all to him.

For by and by the mist will lift,
And plain it all He'll make;
Through all the way, though dark to me,
He made not one mistake.

Saturday's Critters

Some critters for Eileen's Saturday's Critters
One of the little red squirrels that visit my backyard feeder.
Milo, the cat that lives at the day care center in town.
Blue Birds this morning up at one of the cemeteries.
Pictures not that great because I had to zoom in but was happy to be
able to get any picture of othem

🐾     🐾
64 degrees this morning when I left on my walk.  There was a sight drizzle and
it was once again windy though not as bad as yesterday.
Knew the umbrella wouldn't do much good so left it at home and just
figured I'd get wet.  After a mile the drizzle stopped and the rest of my walk
was just cloudy.
My walk took me all around town, behind my house, the two cemeteries,
and the ball park.
Noticed another house for sale in town, this one up the hill on my street.
Will be interesting to see what it sells for.
No others out this morning that I saw.
Walked 6.4 miles
🌻     🌻
Ken went up to Happy Trails after breakfast and I stayed home.

In a few weeks it will be Bible Time (VBS) at our church and they
need lots of cookies for all the kids so today I made the first batch of
5 dozen chocolate chippers for them.  I did eat one cookie this time.

This evening there was an awards dinner for the teens at our church
held at Penn Alps in Grantsville that we went to and enjoyed very much.

Morning and Evening

📌     📌
Comment Replies:
Sharon -  It's not that I'm so tall it's just that they are short. 😊 I am 5'5".
📌     📌
I had a mini morning walk today of only 2.5 miles.
It was 60 degrees, raining and windy.
I took along my umbrella but it didn't do a bit of good as the wind
just blew the rain at me and I had a hard time keeping hold of my
umbrella.  A couple of times I thought it would blow inside out.
Walked up and down the main road and once around the ball park.
Just was not enjoying this walk and since I had to be home early
anyway, I just went home.

Yesterday while I was out Ken went to church to pick up the
church trailer and brought it home and this morning we went to
PA to pick up more Romans books to assemble.
We got 2 pallets this time.
We got back home around 4:00 but
before arrived home we stopped at Katie's for ice cream cones. 🍦

Since I only walked a little this morning I took another 4 mile walk
this evening.  Sun, clouds, 68 degrees, and VERY WINDY.
Walked through town and around both cemeteries.
The sky was looking dark in the north and I thought for sure I would
get rained on again but the rain stayed away until after I was home.
A few pictures from my walk.

I plan to do a little reading, watching Netflix and making a few
weave-it squares, a typical evening at home and one I enjoy.

Bloggers Meet

🌳     🌳
Walked out the garage door and it started raining so turned around
went back in and picked up my umbrella and then went walking.
64 degrees and it rained on and off during all of my walk.
The umbrella went up and down quite a few times.

Walked behind my house, through town, up Sale Barn, down
toward Happy Trails, around both cemeteries and back home.

Didn't see any one else out in the rain.

Saw the usual rabbits and some very young ones.
A few killdeers were around by the town pond.

Walked 6.2 miles
Found a penny  😊
🌳     🌳
9:30 this morning I got in my car and drove to Whispering Pines
in Spring, Pa which is only about 18 miles from my house.
I went there to meet two blogger friends.
That's Melanie on the left and Dianna on the right.
Dianna and I met through blogging and we have become 'in person'
friends too.  Melanie and I are also blogging friends and she is visiting Dianna
so the three of us planned to meet at Whispering Pines.
It was so nice to finally meet Melanie and the three of us had a great
time talking and laughing.  As with all bloggers friends I've met it is
like meeting an old friend.
We had lunch at The Dawdy Haus which is a little cafe at the store.

The three of us bought a few little goodies from the store.
I got these cute measuring cups.
A kind employee at the store was nice enough to take pictures of us
with three different cameras.
Those few hours went by very fast and soon it was time to head back home.

I should have done some work when I got home but I didn't do a thing.
Got a little reading done and put out bird seed for the birds.
Had supper and now here I am.

Wednesday

⛅     ⛅
55 degrees again this morning.  Started out sunny but then clouded up
and there were a few rain drops but they didn't amount to anything.
The rest of the day was a mix of rain, clouds, and sun.

My walk today was around town going up and down all the streets.
Went a ways up Barn Sale, toward HT, around the cemeteries and
the ball park loop.

The building the car dealer is putting up is coming along and they
are working on it most days and looks like it will be done soon.
Kathy was out walking but I saw her far away and she didn't see me.

Lots of cows back in the pasture up Barn Sale but
they were too busy eating to take notice of me.

Walked 6.1 miles
⛅     ⛅
Right after breakfast we headed over to church.  It was time for me
to weed the little garden by the radio station.
Looks so much better after a little weeding.
Planted some marigolds there too.
Should have taken a picture but didn't think of it.
Ken was busy getting the church trailer ready for another trip to
pick up more scriptures to put together for next month.

Ken dropped my off home and he went up to HT.
I weeded the vegetable garden and then came inside and
made Rhubarb Cobbler with the rhubarb out of the garden.

Had a quick supper and then I walked over to the
library for a session of coloring.
I was the only one who showed up but enjoyed coloring anyway.
The two librarians colored too and took turns when someone needed help
at the desk.
Would have taken a picture of my picture but didn't finish it
so I will have to finish it next time.
Ken picked me up and we went to church for Wednesday Prayer Meeting.

Home now and will be nice to sit in my chair and have some of that
Rhubarb Cobbler.

A happy day to you.

PomPom - The cabin is a good distance away from the house so we will still use it as a little getaway.  It will make a nice guest cabin for visitors.  If it is too rugged for quests, they can have the house and Ken and I will stay in the cabin.  I'm thinking my Son, David will love staying in the cabin.  Maybe he'll be by for more visits. 😊

Vee - Yes, I have a day goal of steps and keep my Striiv in my pocket ALL the time.  I keep track on a web site with other walkers and I've joined a challenge for the year to walk at least 15,017 steps a day.  As of today I'm in 7th place out of 72.

Art - Yes, when the house is built we will live there full time and sell the house in town.

A day at Happy Trails

🐄     🐄
It was a delightful 55 degrees this morning and sunny at 6:30 when I
left on my walk.
People often ask me what is my favorite walking weather and today was it.
In the 40's or 50's is perfect for me and I'd rather
walk in the cold than when it is hot.

First walked to the post office and mailed off a few cards down the mail slot.
Then walked the Farm Loop and once I got back to town I made
a loop around town and one of the cemeteries and then home.
Some one stopped and asked me where the Veterinarian's office  was in town.
Had to tell him there wasn't one, at least none that I know about and
I've walked up and down these streets quite a few times. 😊

Walked 6.3 miles
🐄     🐄
Right after breakfast we both headed up to Happy Trails and spent the day there.
I got a second coat of paint on the cabin floor.
We put up gutters on the back of the cabin.
Painted some boards for shelves and another for a piece of outside trim
and Ken nailed it up.
Lunch time we ate sandwiches out on the picnic table.

After lunch we went down to where the house is going to be.
We have it all marked out with yellow rope.
We stood in all the different rooms in the house, stood on the porch,
and in the garage.  Someday we won't have to imagine it. 😊

We did a lot of walking around up there, no problem meeting my
 step goal for the day!!
We got back home about 4:00, got cleaned up and I just didn't
feel like cooking so we hopped in the car and went to Brenda's for supper.

It's been a good day.

Passing on the right

🐢     🐢
A little late getting started on my walk this morning, left at 7:00.
It had rained during the night but stopped by the time I left the house
and was just cloudy and 65 degrees.  After about 3 miles of walking I
felt the first rain drops and soon after it was raining again.
It felt nice this morning because it was a bit warm out and the rain
cooled me off nicely.  A mile later the rain stopped and I was dried off
by the time I arrived back home, though the rain started again soon after.

Walked the roads behind my house, around the all park loop,
through town and down toward HT, back to town, around both cemeteries
and back home.

One of the trucks from the lumber yard here in town was at a house
delivering something and one of the men smiled and said, "You're late today."
I didn't know him but he sees me walking every morning.

The corn is growing nicely with all the rain and sun we've been getting.
It's up to my knees now.
The main road outside of town has nice wide shoulders and I was walking back
toward town on the left side when a pick-up truck started passing
another pick-up truck on the shoulder!!
Luckily I was just at Farmer Mavin's farm road and I
stepped down there as the truck passed.
Of course the first truck is mad now and chases the other blowing his horn.
Just up the road the road goes to two lanes anyway and the guy
could have just passed the other there.
Hope the rest of the day they make better decisions and are happy. 😊

Walked 6.3 miles
Deer from yesterday's walk
🐢     🐢
Ken has drawn up some detailed plans for our house and today we took
the plans to an architect who will make up the blue prints for the builder.
So things are progressing with the new house.
We were thinking that we wouldn't break ground till next spring but
maybe it will happen this year.  Would be nice if that happened
but are happy to wait till next spring if we have to.
We know it is in God's hands and will be patient.  😊

While we were out we did a few other errands.
We had a mix of rain and sun today.

After supper I went outside for about half an hour and got a little
more weeding done.

A happy day to you.

Saturday's Critters

Linking up with Eileen this Saturday for Saturday's Critters.
 🐇     🐇
60 degrees with a hazy sun when I walked early this morning.
Walked around the industrial park.  There's only a handful of businesses
so it is really a nicer place to walk than it sounds.
That was the first half of my walk.
The second half I walked around town, one of the cemeteries and I lastly
walked around the ball park loop because it is mostly in the shade and I
was hot by that time.

Rebeca was out walking and a saw a walker I haven't seen before.

We have nice new lines painted on the roads.
I peeked inside the Bakery/Deli that will be opening in town one of these days
and saw the biggest rolling pin you can imagine sitting in there on the floor.
It must be going to be hung outside on the building somehow.
It will certainly get peoples attention.
I'll take a picture once they put it up.

Walked 6.3 miles
🐇     🐇
Ken went up to Happy Trails to meet with Ronnie our builder and the
excavator who will be clearing the land and now we know where the house
will be built.
The good news is that we don't have to have it perked again but will
use the spot that has already been perked by the previous owners.

While Ken was up there I was at home baking Snickerdoodles.
It is my turn again to bring snacks for the kids at church tomorrow.
Last time the Snickerdoodles were a big hit not only with the kids
but some of the teachers as well.
While baking I didn't eat a one and that was VERY HARD to do!!!

Ken was home for lunch and then went back up to HT in the afternoon.
I stayed home and got the lawn mowed.
Did some more weeding.
Hung the 2 little garden flags in the vegetable garden that I bought back
in March.
Harvested the latest bunch of rhubarb.  It won't be long before
I'll be making a rhubarb cobbler.  😊

Then I sat on the swing for a little while in the shade
before going in to get cleaned up and cook supper.
Made another new recipe this evening for supper,
Pepper Ricotta Primavera,
and I've already posted on my recipe blog.

Now it is time for some rest and relaxation.

A happy day do you.

The first cone flower

🚣     🚣
Walked the Farm Loop this morning.
Happy to say those three dogs were nowhere to be seen so I
walked the whole loop.
The temperature was 63 and the skies were cloudy and not much of a breeze.
Just two cars passed me on the loop.
All the chickens were out in the front yard by the dairy farm and the
rooster was crowing a good morning for all to hear.

Back in town, I walked a loop around one cemetery and through
town and then headed home.
Walked 6.3 miles
🐞     🐞
The daisies from yesterday were NOT the ones on my yard as I think
some of you thought.  They were just wild ones along the road.
The daisies in my yard have buds but have not bloomed yet.
Here's what they look like now.
🐞     🐞
Went to the library and got next months book club selection which is
News of the World by Paulette Jiles.

We had a couple of rain showers but the sun came out in the afternoon
and I went outside and did some weeding.
The lawn needs mowing again but it is too soggy so will have to do
that tomorrow.
The first cone flower has bloomed in the front garden by the dining room windows.
A friend gave me a plant of Lambs Ear two years ago and now I have lots of
it in a few gardens around the yard.
A friend stopped over the house to see Ken's trains and I stayed outside on
the porch reading.  I heard a sound and realized it was rain approaching
and boy did it come down hard.  I stayed outside on the porch
till I starting getting wet.
They are still downstairs with the trains so I figured I get a blog entry posted.

I'm planning on making some nice big salads for supper.
Wish they'd get done with the trains cause I'm sure getting hungry.

A happy day to you.
