I was out of the house at 6:30 this morning but not for my morning walk.
We were in the car heading for Cass, West Virginia to take a ride on
Cass Scenic Railroad which is an old steam locomotive.
It was an outing from church with the Super Seniors.
Pastor drove the church bus and most of the 20 people that went
were on the bus but Ken and I decided to drive ourselves and meet them there.
It is about three hours from our house.
Our train ride didn't leave until 1:30 so that gave us some time to walk
around the town, look in the shops and have some lunch.
It is an old logging town. If you'd like to read more about it
We went for a little walk around town.
I climbed up these 69 steps. You can barely see me but there I am at the top.
A couple of pictures I took along the train ride.
Stopped after about an hour here at Whittaker
where we got out and walked around and I took these pictures
of the beautiful countryside.
Then back on the train and back to the station.
The weather was just perfect and we had a lovely time.
One last picture of a caboose.
We left at 4:00 to head back home.
A happy day to you.

A couple people asked about our Happy Trails cabin.
It is just a dry one room cabin that we are building just for fun and will be a little get-a-way for us. It will be heated and it is insulated so we will be able to spend the night in the winter. No plans to ever live there because it would be much too small and the land is pretty rugged. You need a 4 wheel drive just to get up the driveway.
We like making trails and just walking around our property. It is like we have our very own personal park. Ken enjoys playing around on his tractor and HT is really his hobby now that he is retired. It is only 3 miles from our house in town and we like living in our house with all the comforts.

Looks like a wonderful break from your normal routine. Hoping to get to that area and take a look around.
We went to Cass when our children were young...in fact, our son was only 18 months old then. We camped there and slept in a tent. It was the first night that our son had slept all night through and I kept wanting to wake him up to make certain he was okay. :) You probably know how Carroll felt about that! ;) Anyway, then the spring of 2015 we took our son and granddaughters to ride the train. They all really enjoyed it.
And bless your heart for climbing all 69 steps today! I did that last year because I thought that the houses at the top of the steps were ones we could tour! HA! I even convinced the family that it would be worth the trip up the steps! DOUBLE HA! You can imagine how sad I was (not to mention the rest of the family) when we got to the top and saw they were private homes! :)
You picked a beautiful time of the year to make the trip!
What a neat steam train! I'd enjoy that. And is that a wooden sidewalk too?
I've heard about this train tour. The colors must have been beautiful! I loved reading about what Happy Trails will be when it's finished. It sounds like the perfect get away place!
Looks like the perfect day for a train ride.
Love your first shot of the steam train! Reminds me of the one in Petticoat Junction. Climbing all those steps sounds like a lot of exercise. The fall colors are beautiful!
I don't think I've been on a real train ride. My nephews have been on one called the Polar Express which makes kids think they've been to the north pole and most of them believe it.
Hi Karen, looks like a lovely day! Your photos are wonderful. We have something similar here in Northern Ontario. My parents made the trip a few times. This time of year is the perfect time to go.
That was a fun train ride and the views over WV are glorious with the leaves turning!
It looks like perfect weather for your train ride. The fall colors on the mountain are gorgeous. What a fun day trip. The second picture had me singing the Petticoat Junction theme song.

I've been to the train museum in Spencer North Carolina. We got to ride a train like this. Your trip looks so nice. The scenery is perfect and I love the view of the walk you took. Perfect day.

FUN! I love the photos of faraway small places!
Love old trains!
Looks like a lovely and fun trip, and your pictures of the area are so pretty.
We have an old locomotive here in our area, and they have a fall train ride as well.... we've been wanting to go. Maybe soon?!
Have a wonderful day.

We took our 3 oldest kids to Cass for the railroad ride many years ago -- they were quite little. Loved it! So glad you got to go, and the autumn trees in your photo show that it was perfect weather and time of year :)
Hello, the train ride sounds like a fun time. I love the gorgeous views of the autumn colors. Beautiful photos. Happy Wednesday!
What an absolutely wonderful day.
I love going on steam train rides ...
All the best Jan
Definitely want to visit Cass Scenic Railroad at some point! Beautiful shots!
Oh fun! What beautiful scenes and foliage! Funny, my aunt and uncle were just describing a foliage train trip they took with their church in the White Mountains. I haven't seen any of their photos yet.
What fun to have your own park for hiking and a getaway! We took the Cass trip many years ago in October, al lovely fall day.
