Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Day Five of Thanks

Giving Thanks Post Day 5
Farmers

I am thankful for all the farmers who are often taken for granted.
We walk into a food store and just select what we want from the shelves
and don't give much thought to who grew the food.

A few farming facts.
  •  Americans spend 10% of their income on food.
  •  210,000 full time US farmers produce 80% of our food and fiber.
  • For every $1 spent on food farmers receive less than 12 cents for the raw product.
  • The average US farmer feeds 155 people.
  • US farmers produce about 40% of the worlds corn.
  • Farmers endure drought, heat, rain, wind, snow, hail and tornados to bring food to Americans tables.
  • Americans enjoy a food supply that is abundant, affordable and among the world's safest.
So lets remember those farmers and thank them.
A special thank you to the farmers I know here in my town.
Farmer Bill
Farmer Georg
Farmer Marvin
The Dairy Farm farmer who I haven't met yet.

Some off the subject things that I have to share with you.
My new camera came in the mail yesterday - a Nikon Coolpix S7000 and I love it.  Nice pictures and easy to use.
A picture today along my walk - reflection at Farmer Bill's farm.
Also here's an update on the growing out of my gray hair.  Took a picture this morning because this afternoon is my hair appointment to have it layered and streaked.
A happy day to you.

So true about farmers Karen. I have a lot of farming relatives and most of them have off farm jobs too. Hard to make it on a farm salary alone!
Love the photo of Farmer Bill's farm. The new camera works great.
Looking forward to a pic of your new hairdo!

Karen, thank you for being thankful for farmers. I grew up on a dairy farm and I know first hand just how hard my grandfather, my dad and my uncle worked. You are so right when you say that for every dollar spent in the store the farmer only receives about 12 cents of it for the raw product. The prices continue to rise in the stores, but the farmer doesn't get that same return. It is nice to know people who appreciate the hard work that goes into farming.

YAY for your new camera! I'm excited for you. The picture is beautiful. See you soon! :)

Hooray for farmers (even little ones) :) Wow, your hair is long! I can't wait to see what you get done to it. Glad you have your camera back. I was missing your good photos! That farm is so beautiful. Isn't it amazing that, in addition to working so very hard, farmers are good at making a beautiful landscape?

The gray looks great! Nice camera.

My older brother was a farmer for a while and nearly went bankrupt. There are lots of risks and very few guarantees (except a lot of work and uncertainty).
