Spring is back

Got up a bit late this morning and didn't start walking until a little after 7:00.  It was 25 degrees and sunny with just a slight breeze.  Walked to the library first and dropped a book in the drop off and then to the post office to mail two Netflix back.  Then I walked the farm loop.
One of the farm houses I pass has a bunch of old bikes all over the front porch.  The last couple of times I have passed by, one of the roosters was sitting on the handle bars of a bike.  Snapped this picture of him.  He was also being very vocal.
Farther down the road I pass by some trees and again there were lots of Robins in the trees.  Most flew away when I got near but this one stayed.
Walked around town but didn't see any one else out.
I walked 6.1 miles.
♡     ♡     ♡     ♡     ♡
By afternoon there were just patches of snow here and there and the temperature was 50 so I went outside and cut down more rose bushes and raked things up a bit.  I was out for a couple of hours.  Once again it seems like spring. : )

I'm planning on doing some reading, and later, as usual we will watch a bit of television and have a snack.  Probably ice cream - vanilla fudge.

Hope all is well in your part of the world and your day was sunny and bright.

Happy Sunday

Here we are on the way to church.  Yup, more snow, 4 more inches.
The month of April is Tract Month at my church.
We have 4 different tracts that we will be handing out.
We have divided the church into two teams
and will compete to see how many we hand out.
At the end of April the team who hands out the most
will be served a spaghetti dinner by the losing team.

Here is one of them.
Thought it would make a good Sunday post. : )
A blessed Sunday to you.

Saturday

No rain again this morning when I walked even though it was supposed to.  It was 40 degrees with clouds and a little sun with a slight breeze.
I walked the farm loop.
On the other side of the fence is a little farm pond.
Two geese on the pond and three robins in the tree.
Walked around town and was surprised to see some people at the town pond fishing.
This is a big old house sits on Main Street and is slowly falling down.  Would be nice if someone bought it and fixed it up.  It could really be a nice house once again.
I saw a woman walking a dog and another woman walking.  I've seen both of them a couple of times before.  The walker looks like she walks many miles because she is outfitted in those walking pants with lots of pockets and has water bottles hanging off her belt and just seems like she's been walking for hours and hours!!

These days with the temperature in the 40's are my favorite walking temperatures.  Not hot or cold,  the only thing that would make it perfect would be if it was a bright sunny morning.  I'm sure I'll have plenty mornings like that coming up.

I walked 6 miles.
♡     ♡     ♡     ♡     ♡
We made a trip to the Shop and Save to pick up a new supply of ice cream because it was on sale.  No chocolate chip but did get another chocolate chip mint, vanilla fudge and chocolate/vanilla.  I'm going with vanilla fudge tonight for my snack.

This afternoon I spent some time outside in the yard cutting down some of the rose bushes.  The people who lived here before us told me to cut them down almost to the ground so that is what I starting doing.  I worked until it started to rain.  Still have quite a few more rose bushes to cut down, some ornamental grasses and old flowers to cut down too.  I enjoy doing the work though and come the next nice sunny day I'll be out there again.

Once back inside I read some more of my book and just have 50 pages left to read which I'll finish later.

Hope your Saturday was happy and bright.

Friday

A warm 44 degrees this morning.  It was supposed to be raining last night but it hadn't started yet when I got up.  It looked like rain though so I wore my rain pants and took along my umbrella.  Walked up the main road in town passed the bank and remembered I wanted to take some money out of the ATM but forgot my card so I went back home to get it and walked back to the bank.  While at ATM it rained for just the couple of minutes I was under cover.  Walked back home to drop the money off.  Carried my umbrella with me but never had to use it.

I walked here and there around town without seeing anyone else out.  Snapped this picture of a house at the edge of town.
Over at the town pond I saw all the same kinds of birds as yesterday but added a cardinal and blue bird.

The rain started as I started walking up my driveway.
I walked 6.5 miles.
✂     ✂     ✂     ✂     ✂
The rain didn't last long but the day remained cloudy and very windy.

We went to theTractor Supply Company to see if they had rubbers to put over my shoes for walking in the rain.  They had them for men but none for women.  I would have gotten men's but the smallest size was medium and they were too big.  Small would have been good.  We checked at Walmart and a shoe store but no luck.  So I came home and ordered them from Tractor Supply on line.  Being in the store was worth while anyway because I tried on a pair of Lee Jeans and they fit so I bought them.  But the best thing of all being at the store was seeing all the baby chicks and ducks they had there for sale.  Oh they were so cute.

The book I'm reading now is another one by Linda Castillo, Pray for Silence and it is the second in the Kate Burkholder series.  It's another good one and I'm half finished with it already.  I started out by listening to the fourth one while walking in the basement and then read the first in the series and now the second.  I have the third one to read too.

Not sure what to have for supper yet but I do know that my snack tonight will be some ice cream - more of that chocolate chip mint.
Vee - you were right when you commented that you remember my favorite being chocolate chip.  They don't have that kind very often.
The ice cream goes on sale tomorrow at the Shop and Save and maybe they will have it then.

I'm going to go and read some more of my book now.
Hope you are all enjoying your Friday.

Happy Trails

It was 15 degrees this morning but there was no wind and no snow so I layered up and went out for my walk.  Headed on over to the post office first and dropped off a Netflix in the slot and then walked the farm loop in the opposite direction than I normally do.  It was so very quiet and all I heard was my shoes on the gravel as I walked along the side of the road.  I stopped to listen to the quiet and then heard some crows talking and a tractor off in the distance.

After walking the loop I made a pit stop at home. The temperature had gone up to 22 degrees and I was getting warm so I took my outer layer off and left again with a book to drop in the library slot and then continued my walk up the street to the cemetery on the edge of town.  Walked around the little town pond.  I saw mallard ducks, a red winged black bird, and the two killdeer again. They all took off as I approached the pond.
Again I saw so many robins, my town must be the robin capital of the country.
Didn't see any people out.
It was really nice being outside this morning.  I always feel so good after my morning walk.
I walked 6.5 miles.
♡     ♡     ♡     ♡     ♡
I forgot to mention yesterday that the book Life After Life I read was a book club selection for the month of May.  I am curious to hear what the others have to say about.  I went to the library today to pick up the book for the April book club selection.  Somehow I got the two months out of order.  April's book is Still Life With Bread Crumbs.

After lunch the temperature was 50 degrees and we decided to go up to Happy Trails and walk around.  All the snow is gone now and we are planning on making more trails.  Today we walked around figuring out where to put the next trail.  We used a yellow nylon rope to mark where we will make the next trail.   It is kind of hard to see in the picture.
A trail we walked along.
We should put up a sign here that reads
Deer Crossing.
It was nice to be able to walk around on Happy Trails.

I enjoyed those Welsh cookies yesterday and plan to have some again tonight.

Hope your day has been a happy one.

Snow in the morning, sun in the afternoon

Not a pleasant morning for walking outside.  It was 16 degrees with a wind blowing and the snow coming down like crazy so I decided to stay inside this morning.  I didn't walk in the basement either but I did walk around the house a lot.  Every so often I'd get up and walk 500 steps around the house and by the time I go to bed tonight I will have gotten the minimum steps in for the day that I like to walk.

I usually do my exercise tape Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri but did it today too because I didn't walk.

I finished reading the book Life After Life by Kate Atkinson.  As the title suggests the main character dies and keeps coming back to life.  She keep coming back as herself but he life takes a different direction.  To read more about what it is about click HERE.  I thought it was a good book but one of the strangest I've read.  It's many stories in one.

I went outside in the afternoon when the snow was gone and the sun was shining but it was still very cold and windy.  Just got the mail and then walked around the yard awhile just to get some fresh air.

This is the spot where the garden will be.  You can see I still have to dig up 4 rose bushes and a bunch of grass like plants that I don't know the name of and a little tree.  Ken has designed some raised beds with walkways between them.  Hard to believe that this picture and the snowy one are both from today isn't it?
Baked  some Welsh cookies this afternoon.  This time they are for us and four of them will be my snack tonight.  I did eat one this afternoon as well.  They are not only good but I like that they are only 40 calories each.

Hope  your day has been a happy one.

Seeds

This morning it was warmer at 20 degrees but it was snowing again.  There was no wind at all and it was really quite nice to be out walking.
I stayed around town and just walked up and down all the streets.  I went to the farm at the edge of town to see Charlie (the steer) and the others but they weren't out in the field today.

The Killdeer were over by the town pond and though the picture isn't that great, at least this one stood still long enough for me to get a picture.
I saw two people walking dogs and walking around the loop behind the ball park saw Dave feeding his dog Saber.  His property runs along side the path and Saber is an outside dog.

I walked 6 miles.
♡     ♡     ♡     ♡     ♡
Continued cleaning the house.  I try to do some each day and by the end of the week everything is done.

This afternoon I read a lot of my book and should finish it by tomorrow.  I'm reading Life After Life,  it is good but a different kind of book.

We were home all day so decided to go out for supper to the Mexican restaurant Canella's.  On the way home we stopped at Walmart to pick up a few things.  I got a some seeds and this seed starter tray.
This evening we will watch a little television and have our snack as usual.  We will be watching a British show called Death in Paradise which we really like.  If you're wondering what my snack will be..... I'm having chocolate chip mint ice cream.

Hope you have enjoyed your day.

Walking in the afternoon

I woke up a little later than usual this morning and it was still only 10 degrees and there were a few snow flurries around.  It looked more like floating glitter than snow, and was really pretty.  It was a bit cold to walk especially with the wind so I didn't walk this morning.

After  breakfast I just couldn't seem to get motivated to get on with my work so I sat there and read for a while.  Finally I told myself to just get up and get started on cleaning that bathroom.  I listened to myself and once I got started I felt so much better.  : )  Got a good start on cleaning the house for this week and then it was lunch time.

After lunch the sun was shining and the temperature was up to 20 degrees so I went for my walk then.

Had a nice walk around the farm loop.  It was a very quiet afternoon but nice to be walking in the sunshine and a different time of the day for a change.  Though I do prefer early morning.
There were robins all over the place again.  I couldn't even guess how many I saw.  They were scattered all along my walk.

I didn't walk as far as usual and only went 5 miles.
I found a dime and one penny and both looked like they had been around quite a while buried under snow all winter.

Hope you are having a wonderful Monday and the sun is shining where you are too.

But he answered and said,
It is written,
Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

A spring day

Oh my, was it ever windy this morning on my walk.  At times it blew me right along.  Once the sun rose there was a mixture of sun and clouds and the nice thing about this walk was that it was 44 degrees.  I listened to the wind making different sounds.  Through the pine trees it made a swishing sound.  Through the leafless trees I could hear the branches click clacking against each other and some rubbed against each other making a spooky moaning sound.  At other times the branches sounded like a squeaky hinge that needed some oil.

Spring is making an appearance around here finally.  I don't know what kind of flowers these are but they are the first blooms I've seen.
The farm ponds are not frozen anymore.
This one is on Farmer Bill's farm.
I walked the farm loop, the two cemeteries in town and around the loop behind the ball park.  No cars at all passed me on the farm loop and didn't see one until after I walked the two cemeteries.

One man was out walking his dog in town.
I saw a Red Winged Black bird and more of those Robins.  Two geese were on the town pond and some of the chickens at the farm were outside walking around the farm.  Not to be confused the Lone Chicken and friends who live in town.

I walked 6.7 miles.
My walk is up and down hills and my pedometer had recorded it was like walking up 1,240 stairs!!
♡     ♡     ♡     ♡     ♡
I made French toast for breakfast today - haven't had that for quite a while and it was a nice treat.

We went to Oakland and walked around town.  Stopped to look in a couple of antique stores and I got a few goodies.
Some more blue plates to hang above the kitchen cabinets.
I've been looking for an old sugar bowl to sit on the counter by Ken's coffee maker to put the powdered creamer in.  Found one today.  Didn't need these measuring cups but I really like them so got them too.  They look old but aren't.
It has turned out to be a beautiful sunny day with temperatures in the 50's.  So nice in fact that Ken washed his car.  I was going to wash mine too but didn't really feel like it. I went outside to dig up some rose bushes and there was Ken washing MY car after washing his.  Isn't he nice.  : )

There are LOTS of knock out roses around the yard planted by the previous owners.  The ones out the back door are planted in the perfect spot for my herb garden so I'm digging them up.  This afternoon I dug up 6 with four more to go.  Ken said he would drive the tractor down from HT and dig them up but I like digging around in the yard.  I am anxious to get an herb garden started.  I've never had one before.

So nice to have it actually feel like spring today.
Hope your enjoying your Saturday.

More snow flurries

35 degrees again with periods of frozen snow just like yesterday morning only this time there was no wind which was nice.  I wore too many clothes and was warm.

I walked around town.
Walked around the cemeteries in town too and also the path around the ball park.  There is woods behind the ball park with a little stream and I walked back there.  Saw this trail and thought I'd discovered a another place to walk along but it dead ended just up ahead.
A quiet morning and didn't see anyone else out.
Saw a couple of bunnies and LOTS of robins all over the place.
I walked 6.2 miles.
♡     ♡     ♡     ♡     ♡
By mid morning the snow was coming down pretty hard. We went food shopping at Walmart, but we went to the one down in LaVale this time.  Had to make a stop in Grantsville which is on the way.
Here we are driving down the road in the snow.
30 miles away down the mountain in LaVale it was raining and 45 degrees and eventually it stopped and the sun came out.  We stopped at Ruby Tuesday down there for lunch and picked one of their 'small plate' items off the menu.  I had the spicy baked fish and Ken had the steak strips.  Both came with a small serving of mashed potatoes and broccoli and was very good and a nice small portion perfect for lunch.

On the way home as we got closer the temperature dipped back down in the 30's but the snow had stopped and you could hardly tell that it had snowed and now as I look out of the window the sun is shining.

Just having sandwiches for supper tonight.  I made meatloaf the other day and we will have that.  I love cold meatloaf sandwiches on home made bread.

Till then I'll read some blogs and then continue reading my book.

A happy day to you.

Frozen snow

34 degrees here this morning as I walked out the door.  It was cloudy and windy and I started off walking up toward Happy Trails.
I didn't go all the way because I didn't feel like walking up one more steep hill but I did walk two miles in that direction before heading back to town.

The farm on the left just before town is pretty hilly and when I looked down from the main road I saw a few cows down there.  I zoomed in on this cow and her calf.
As I was getting back to town frozen snow started falling.  It was little round balls and at times it came down pretty hard and when walking in to the wind those little pellets hit my face.
Better that than rain though, at least I didn't get wet.
I saw one man out raking stones out of the grass back into his driveway.  That's it, no one else out.

I walked 6 miles.

We have been meaning to make appointments at the dentist since we moved here and this afternoon finally got around to doing that.  We walked to the dentist which is just a block away from our house (right next to ShearDelight where I get my hair done) which was recommended by the people who used to live in our house.  We got some paperwork to fill out and our appointments are on April 1.  I really liked our old dentist a LOT and hope this new one will be good too.

I spent a lot of time playing around with a new look for this blog.  Changed it yesterday but didn't really like it.  Today I tried all different templates and colors and then finally ended up with this neat, simple, and uncluttered look.  I wanted to put up a new header picture for spring but will have to wait until it really is spring and not just a date on the calendar.

I finished reading book number 12 so far this year.  It was a Linda Castillo book called Sworn to Silence.  It was a good one, a real page turner.  It's a murder mystery and quite scary at times.  It is graphic describing the murders which are quite brutal so some of you may not like it.

We are going to Brenda's for pizza and a salad tonight and I've been looking forward to that all day.

Hope you are enjoying the first day of spring and that where you live it actually feels like spring.

Walking and reading

I was surprised to wake up this morning and find it not raining since that was the forecast.  It was 30 and once the sun rose it stayed out.  It was windy but a beautiful morning for walking.

I walked around town and up Barn Sale Road to see if Charlie the steer was out.  Sure enough he was and all the others were in the field too.  When I first walked past, this one climbing up the big pile of dirt made me smile.
The others all looked up as I said good morning to them as I passed by walking up the hill.  A little later as I was coming down the hill on the way back they slowly all started walking toward the fence.  As I got in front of the fence the all started running over to me.
I stopped to talk to them as they all nudged there way to the front of the fence.  There is Charlie right in the middle.  I noticed all the others just have number tags on their ears.  I didn't get up close to the fence because I would have had to jump over the ditch and I thought I would scare them.
Also in the field with the steer were at least 30 robins.  I took a picture but they didn't show up very good.  It was something to see so many of them together.
Finally I moved on and walked around town and around the two cemeteries.

As I was getting home the letter carrier was just driving up my driveway in her jeep to deliver a package. We talked for a bit.  She's really nice. : )  If your curious about the package it was for Ken.  It was some train supplies for his layout.

I walked 6 miles.

I don't know if you noticed or not but I deleted the Page about the Bible Challenge from my blog.  I'm sorry to say I've given up on learning 100 verses this year.  My memory is not what it used to be and I was not able to do it.  I was getting stressed over it and was forgetting the verses a week after I learned them.  So I'm back to just memorizing the monthly church one.

Kitchen finished

It was 22 degrees this morning with some wind so I walked around town.  It looked like it was snowing up the mountain or maybe it was just some frozen fog.   A few flurries were blowing around for a little while but nothing came of it and the sun came out.  The rest of the day was sunny though a little chilly.

I walked around one of the cemeteries where most of the path was cleared except for where the wind blew snow across it.

It was a quiet morning.  I missed all the birds chirping today.  They must have found a warm spot and stayed there until the sun came out.

These shrubs by the library reminded me of big cupcakes with icing on them.

I walked 6 miles.

We went over to church for a couple of hours this morning to count out tracts.  We counted them in groups of 10, put a rubber band around them, then put 10 of them in a group to make 100.  There were 8 of us there.  You can see Ken in the kitchen.  He went to make coffee.
Pastor showed up for a little while too.  I'm glad we went.  We seem to always have a nice time no matter what we do with church.  : )

Stopped by to see Harry on the way home because I had to give him something that I said I'd drop off today.  He wasn't in his room so I just left it there for him with a note and will stop by for a proper visit later this week.

When we got home Ken finished the kitchen project.  Very pleased with out it all turned out.
Here's a close up.
Now it's time to get back in the kitchen and cook supper.  Having pasta and sauce today, those little wheels that I like so much. : )

Working on the back splash

Yesterday evening it started snowing and this morning it was still coming down.  We got about 7 more inches.  It was 20 degrees.  I walked in the basement while listening to an audio book.  This one is read by two people, a man and a women who read the male and female parts and I like it.

I walked 5 miles.

After breakfast we started on the back splash in the kitchen and worked until lunch time.
Ken did the work and I just got a few things for him but mostly watched.  Had a break for lunch and then got back to work.  This is how much got done so far.  We are pleased with how it is turning out.
We ran out of materials and need one more sheet and some edging.  We have to do this side yet.
We are about to head out to the store to pick up the rest of the materials so we can finish first thing tomorrow.

That's about all that got done today.

Without and With

This mornings sermon was on these two verses.

Without Jesus
John writes in John 15:5 that Jesus says:
I am the vine,
ye are the branches:
He that abideth in me,
and I in him,
the same bringeth forth much fruit:
for without me (Jesus)
ye can do nothing.
But with Jesus
Paul writes in Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ
which strengtheneth me.

A blessed Sunday to you all.

Maryland puzzle

39 degrees outside when I walked.  It had just stopped raining but I wore my rain pants because everything was still wet and my sweat pants get wet up the back of my legs just from walking.  There was just a couple of minutes walking when frozen snow came down but eventually the sun came out.
I walked around town including the two cemeteries.   As you can see all the snow has melted.  Some piles around yet in parking lots which will take quite a while to disappear altogether.
I haven't seen or heard anything from Lone Chicken and friends for a awhile.  I thought on the warmer days some of them at least would be out.  Don't hear them either and today I gave them my chicken talk.  I'm wondering if they are still there.

I saw a bunny hiding along side of the road in some brush, a couple of red winged black birds and now I see lots of robins all over the place.

I walked 6 miles.
Found a penny.

Dinner with the ladies from church yesterday was a fun time.  Kathy did a great job with the food and her spring theme.  She made small sub sandwiches and put them in a crooked line to make them look like a caterpillar.  Then took cut pieces of green pepper and tucked them under the sandwiches for the legs.

Dessert was bird nests made out of rice krispie treats.  In side was green coconut for grass, tiny jelly beans for eggs and then marshmallow peeps sitting in them.  Really cute.

We also made edible arrangements out of fruit which was fun, but I forgot to bring mine home.

We also went around the room and each told of a prayer request and then prayed together. Then we just visited, talked, laughed and just enjoyed being together.

I usually take my camera with me wherever I go but last night I forgot to stick it in my purse.  I can't remember the last time I forgot it.  Took a couple photos with my phone but have no idea how to get them off the phone and onto the computer.   Spent a frustrating time trying to figure it out.

It's been a sunny day but VERY windy again.  Just stayed inside doing a few things around the house.
Spent some time reading and then finished the latest puzzle we've been working on.
It is a map of the state of Maryland and the different landmarks and historical places.  It was a fun puzzle to do.  We have lived in 4 different places through the last 20 + years.  I've marked the places on the map where we have lived.  Clicking on the picture will make it bigger.
I'm in the mood for a nice big salad for supper today.
Hope you're enjoying your Saturday.
Be Happy.
