Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Walking on ice and our Christmas Tree

It was 30 degrees, icy, snowy and slushy outside with a mist falling.  I started out walking to the library and dropped a book in the book drop.   Then I had a random walk around town.
I saw Dave and his dog Saber out and she ran over to say hi to me.
Didn't see anyone else out.

I didn't see any animals but I did see rabbit, deer and bird prints so they were out there, I just couldn't see them.

Normally it would be a day that I wouldn't walk.  BUT,  I now can walk in icy weather too.  : )
Ken bought me these spring like things that fit over the bottom of your shoes.  I tried them out today.  I had planned on just walking a mile or two to check them out, but they worked GREAT and I ended up walking my regular 6 miles.  These things are fantastic!!  I walked on lots of icy places and no slippage at all.  I am so excited to have these.  I should have tried them years ago.
Now I just have to buy some kind of boots that are good walking ones so my feet will stay dry in the snow.

I walked 6.1 miles - 12,222 steps.

Stayed around home in the morning and then after lunch we went out and got our Christmas tree.  We went to a place where you could cut your own tree but they had some that were already cut.  We planned on cutting our own but then I saw the perfect tree already cut yesterday so we picked that one.  The ones in the picture are bigger than the ours.  We got a 5 foot one.

Here it is in the back of the truck ready to go home.
When we got home we put it in the stand and then just put the angel on top and strung blue and red lights.  And here it sits on the round table in front of the picture window.
I like to set up the tree slowly.  Tomorrow will be the ornaments and then the next day the tinsel.  It is so much more enjoyable for me doing it slow.

I've made lasagna for supper (meatless) and it is just about done so off I go to set the table.

That's my day so far.
Hope you're having an enjoyable Monday too.

And in despair I bowed by head;
"There is no peace on earth", I said;
"For hate is strong,
and mocks the song
of peace on earth, good-will to men!"

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead, nor doth he sleep!
The wrong shall fail,
the right prevail,
with peace on earth, good-will to men.
~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Joe - Thanks.  I just use a simple point and shoot camera, a Nikon COOLPIX L610.  Glad you finally left a comment. : )

Hi - catching up now after a busy weekend with no blogging. I love those things you got to walk on the snow and ice. If we every move back to a cold, snowy climate, I am going to get some of those. I love your tree. Can't wait to see it all decorated. I bet it makes the house smell good too. Have a warm and cozy evening!

Ok, sorry about the snowplows! Just couldn't resist. And yes, those ice grippers are great. A lot of people around here use them.

Those attachments to your boots should be just the thing! Lasagna sounds really good! I will have to make some here. It has been a long time since we had some.

Your tree is looking good!

I like your springy things on your shoes. I need to tell my daughter in kansas city about them.
Have fun decorating your tree.

I love that creative idea about the bottom of the shoes. And I can't wait to see the finished product of the tree :)

Your tree looks so nice in front of the window. Harry and I both have the ice walkers for our shoes because we always have ice here in West Milford. They really work good don't they. No more worries about falling down on the ice.

Love your tree. Glad you got the ice grips for your boots so you can walk even in the ice. Mary Jo

Those ice walkers are cool! What a great idea.

the tree is really nice.

I've always enjoyed that verse by Longfellow. I am not sure if this is true, but it seems to me he wrote it when he was in despair from a son being killed in a war. But I could have that totally wrong. Anyway, it is a great poem. Art
