Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A walk, lunch out and lemon cookies

We had a thunder storm last night and in the morning it was still raining so I headed out the door with my umbrella.  The temperature was 68 but with the cool rain it was quite pleasant.
It was nice getting back to my walk around the lake.
Only a handful of people out which wasn't surprising since it is Monday and was raining.
Nice weather for the ducks and geese.  The rabbits didn't seem to mind the rain either.  I saw quite a few of them munching happily away on the grass.  A couple of deer popped out of the woods and I saw a groundhog too.

I walked 6.2 miles.

By 11:30 the rain had stopped and there were a few peaks of the sun making their way through the clouds.  I left at 12:00, picked up Mary Jo and we went over to Bertucci's for lunch.  It had been a while and was nice to spend some time together catching up.
I skipped breakfast because by the time I thought of it, it was too late and I wouldn't have been hungry for lunch.

A few weeks ago Kim posted a picture and recipe of Lemon Sugar Cookies on her blog, Happy@Home that she baked.   I copied the recipe because they looked delicious and this afternoon I baked some.  If you like lemon cookies you really should go visit her and get the recipe.  They are delicious.  It was very hard to eat only one!! Thanks Kim for sharing your recipe. : )

And that has been my day so far.  Haven't decided what to make for dinner yet, maybe because I'm not at all hungry and could skip dinner altogether, but I guess Ken will be hungry when he gets home.

I'd better go and clean up the kitchen from the cookies.  I sure make a mess when I bake.  Do you make a mess too or are you a neat baker?

I hope you made some happy memories today.

there is a light from within.

I like this quote! You talk about the animals like Dr. Doolittle! I enjoy that.

Oh, no! I don't think I am neat about ANYTHING I do, certainly not baking! I will have flour everywhere, and all the ingredients spread out all over the place, plus the cleanup afterward seems to include just about all my measuring cups and spoons.:)

We are still waiting on rain, though there was lightning and thunder during the night. Someone somewhere had some rain.:)

It is difficult for me to stop at one cookie when I bake them.

Ahhhh...that's all the endorsement I need. I'll be baking those cookies tomorrow...just got the recipe today. Thanks for mentioning it. (I am not a neat baker. The entire kitchen is a disaster even when I try to do the mise en place method.)

Rain would be a most welcome sight for us. It's in the forecast this week and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they are right.
I'm happy to hear that you liked the cookies and thanks for the mention today.
I am a messy baker too. But I guess it is worth the mess :).

Mmmmm... Lemon Cookies... Perhaps they could be made, with G/F flour. ,-)

I make a mess, baking. But try to pick up, put away, etc. while I am doing it. Like after any meal, I hate to have too much clean up to do, AFTER.

Just me, I guess. :-)

"Uncle A." picks up as he goes along, cooking too. THANKFULLY! I think those cooks, who cook, making a mess.... And then leave the mess for someone else to clean up, are inconsiderate. -pout-

I love anything made with lemons!

I clean as I go when cooking or baking but I still have a mess anyway. I need a maid to clean up after me. ;-)

Wow, that rain looks/sounds great! We are having an "excessive heat warning" here in Phoenix until Wednesday. It was over 90 degrees at 6:45 a.m. and has been well over 110 this afternoon. A cool rain would be wonderful. I love it that you walk so much. I love walking, except that I have not been walking lately because of surgery and summer heat. I have been doing some swimming which I also enjoy. I will try those lemon cookies. Like you, I always make quite a mess when I bake. Thanks for the post. Have a great week.

Luckily, George and I are both in the kitchen... One cooks and the other keeps things clean... That works for us!!!!

Glad you got some rain and that it was cooler. We have been waiting all day for some rain ---but so far, nothing...

Hugs,
Betsy

I try to be neat when I am cooking /baking etc. I am cleaning up during the whole process. I hate to have a big mess at the end of cooking. I don't like cooking all that much so having the mess at the end is a big negative for me.

Thank you for answering my question, about can you see all or some of my symbols. :-))))

I tend to have things littered over the counter tops when baking but load all pots into the dishwasher, wipe the tops down and it's soon back to normal with some lovely baking cooling on a rack - well worth the upset.
