Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A rainy walk

The rain that was predicted has arrived so I had a wet walk this morning.  It was 47 degrees and there was some wind gusts once in a while.  I had to hold my umbrella with two hands at times.  I wore my rain gear so stayed dried except for my feet.  I have to wear my walking shoes because I just can't walk like I do if I'm wearing boots.  I walked on the sidewalks along the street to the end of Gray Rock.
But then on the way back I turned into one of the side streets that lead down to one of the paths.  I wanted to see how bad it was getting flooded down by the stream.  I took this picture walking over one of the foot bridges.
I'm glad I went down to the path because I got to see a  Pileated Woodpecker.  They are quite big birds and their bright red heads look so cool.  I wish I could have gotten a picture of him.  I also saw a couple of deer running in the woods.
I only saw two others out doing their exercise.  Another walker all decked out in black rain gear with a huge umbrella like mine, only hers was blue and a runner who didn't bother trying to keep dry.
The rain came down steady and pretty hard at times, but I loved walking in it.  I tried singing walking in the rain but couldn't remember most of the words.  I was out walking for two hours.  It took me longer than usual because I had to walk around LOTS of puddles and I stopped a few times to watch the water in different places.
I walked 6.5 miles.

I really did have good intentions about getting the house cleaned on this rainy day, but I just had to get back to that blue scarf and I've been knitting instead. I thought I had solved my problem but it appears something else is wrong too.  I'll get this yet, just need a little help.  I'll put it aside until I get my friend Retired Knitter to take a look at it.
Besides knitting, I did only very basic morning stuff, made a loaf of bread, and read blogs.  I also found some time to do my exercise DVD.

It's too late in the day now to start any housework so, I think I'll give knitting a break and read until Ken comes home from work.

This evening will just be a quiet one at home.

Hope your day had many smiles in it.
A smile from me to you.
Happyone :-)

Woooooow, looks flooded there. Since I'm sure those trees don't usually have their "feet wet."

Rain followed snow here and it's gonna' continue. The basement sump pump is doing its job!

We built on rock and knew cellar would have water. So a trench around the edge was built in, and the sump pump. :-)

I am so sick of rain and gray-ness, already and we will have more. No wonder I have to go-wild with my blog look. To keep me sane!!!!! ,-)

I got so much housework done today. I was in the mood to do the whole house but Rob's here, so I made myself stop after a few hours.

The rain is just crazy today! Glad you were able to get your walk in.

Gosh, it was really raining and that area did look flooded. I admire you for getting out and doing it, no matter what the weather.

It's coming here overnight...the rain that is. I'm planning on a quiet, cuddly reading day. Hope that your friend can help you with the scarf that you want to master. I know how frustrating it is to have something go awry. Enjoy your quiet evening with Ken. I had supper ready at 5 and wouldn't you know John didn't arrive home until 6. Pah!

Wow, two hours to walk. I wondered how long it took you, even though today the rain delayed you. The stream is certainly on its way to flooding. The Pileated Woodpecker is certainly colorful, very pretty. Don't you just love the Me Days, ahhh so relaxing. I know you'll get your scarf worked out, can't wait to see it finished. Loved your quote!

The wetlands along those paths really got a dousing, didn't they?? I think it would be a lot of fun to walk in the rain like that. You're right about boots not giving your feet any support. Better wet feet than foot pain!!
