Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself;
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.
~Groucho Marx

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

The Five Minute Patio Bench

Yesterday when I left for my walk, Ken left to meet up with a few friends and drove up to Carlisle, PA for the spring car show for the day.

When I got back I made some French toast for breakfast and then at 9:30 left for the old house to get starting on painting the picket fence out in the front. My goal was to just do the front part and that is exactly what I did. I painted for 4 hours.
Here are a couple before pictures.
I also cut the forsythia way down so I could paint behind it more easily.
And here is the after.

I took this picture of the purple phlox too.
It sure has spread quite a bit!
While I was painting people stopped to chat for a bit with me. My friend Lin, who lives in town stopped by two times. The second time she came by and told me it was time to take a break and brought a cup of fresh fruit for me to eat. That was so nice of her and it sure did hit the spot. Thanks Lin!!!

The other day we bought a patio bench for the deck. When I do my container gardening I want to be able to do it right out on the deck and I can keep pots, dirt, tools and other small things in it and we can still use it as a seat.
It is very easy to put together - no tools needed, just snap things in place - should only take 5 minutes. So today I thought I would take a couple of minutes and put it together. Well, as it happens I am not very good at snapping things together because after a half hour of reading the instructions and trying to put it together this is what I managed to do. I was getting frustrated that I couldn't do this simple thing, so I left it for Ken to put together when he got home.
For Ken it really did only take 5 minutes to put together. :-)

I added a cushion for a comfortable seat.
The clothes I hung out today dried in to time at all. I only have room to hang one load at a time on the deck so I did one in the morning and one in the afternoon. They dried faster than they would have in a dryer. We had a day of summer again today. Sunny and in the 90's. There was a gentle breeze blowing too.

We finished up the last two pieces of the cheese cake I made last week. We savored each piece. :-)

Hope all is well in your part of the world.
Happyone :-)

  1. Isn't it amazing what a fresh coat of paint does? What a lovely place you have. Looking at that fence makes my knees hurt, to think of all the 'up and down' motion you had to do.

The phlox are gorgeous and I like your multipurpose bench. :)

  2. I like the bench! Neat that you can store stuff in it. I'm surprised with all the pollen that the things you dried outside weren't yellow even after the short time it took for them to dry.
Isn't it amazing what a substantial difference a little bit of pain makes? The fence looks new.

  3. That is a handy dandy bench for sure and putting the cushions on is terrific, that definitely was the icing on the cake!

  4. That's about how far I would've gotten on the bench, too. But wowser! You really paint like crazy. I never would've done all that in four hours...looks great! Some folks are so good at anticipating others' needs. Lin sounds like a special gal.

  5. Painting fences, building benches, making cheesecake (and other goodies), doing cross-stitch... Is there anything you DON"T do?

  6. The picket fence looks so nice and the phlox are gorgeous too. Your bench looks like it will be perfect for the deck. How nice to have storage in it. Your weather is warmer than ours right now.

  7. It was so hot yesterday...it's a wonder that you were able to be out painting. It looks great. Will there be a 'for sale' sign anytime oon?

I'm not good at assembly. IKEA is not my friend.

I loved that cheesecake. I need to check on your link and copy it. Yum! One of the best cheesecakes I've ever had.

    Happy day!

  8. The phlox are so pretty, I wish they would last the entire summer. I like the cushion that you added to the patio bench. You seem to have quite the touch of making your items personalized. You seem to be settling in nicely in your new townhouse.

  9. Do you miss the old garden? I'm sure you must. I have such a hard time letting anything go, I still drive by our old house and am always happy when I see they haven't changed anything. Silly, I know...

Hello my friend.

I'm hoping you will leave a comment.
Thanks. : )
