Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Poems

With it being 72 degrees this morning when I walked I
was thankful for the clouds and the nice breeze keeping
things nice and cool.

Started my walk going around both of the cemeteries.
Then walked down the road towards home.
Back to and through town over to the ball park loop.
Continued around the loop and then headed back to the pond.

Rebecca was out walking and ran into her two different times.
John was out also walking Prim.

Not much happening around town, all was quiet.

😊    🥾    ☁️

My book club meeting wasn't held in the library this week
but outside at the park a few blocks away from the library.
We all brought our own lawn chairs.
The book club this month was different than usual.
We all brought a poem that we liked and read them aloud.
The poem I picked I had written down in a notebook where
I kept sayings, quotes, and poems from when I was in high school.

The poem I picked was
Life's Weaving
- Unknown
My life is but a weaving
Between my God and me.
I cannot choose the colors
He knows what they should be.
For He can view the pattern
Upon the upper side
While I can see it only
On this, the under side.

Sometimes He weaveth sorrow
Which seems strange to me,
But I will trust His judgement
And work on faithfully.
Tis He who fills the shuttle
He knows just what is best.
So I shall weave in earnest
And leave with Him the rest.

At last when life is ended
With Him I shall abide
Then I may view the pattern
Upon the upper side.
Then I shall know the reason
Why pain with joy entwined
Was woven in the fabric
of life that God designed.

This first three lines of the poem I read and The Tapestry
are the same and the content is similar.
Corrie Ten Boom is usually given the credit for writing The Tapestry
but it was written by Gran Colfax Tullar.

The Tapestry

My life is but a weaving
Between my God and me.
I cannot choose the colors
He weaveth steadily.

Oft' times He weaveth sorrow;
And I in foolish pride
Forget He sees the upper
And I the underside.

Not 'til the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Will God unroll the canvas
And reveal the reason why.

The dark threads are as needful
In the weaver's skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned

He knows, He loves, He cares;
Nothing this truth can dim.
He gives the very best to those
Who leave the choice to Him.

Of the two I like the unknown version better so chose to read that one.

I finished the fourth and last diamond art bookmark this afternoon.

Hope you had a fantastic day.
Thanks for visiting.

I think I like the first poem better as well. So very poignant. Our temps here are hot right now. I'd love some of your breezes! Have a good evening.

I know this poem! I think it was the second one that I have known. I love this idea for your book club, it should be a regular feature.

72 sounds like heaven. We hit 102 around 6pm tonight. Hotter tomorrow.
Both poems are nice with #1 edging out #2 by a head.

I've read that poem before, not sure which version though as it was a while ago. And I think the bookmarks are quite delightful :)

The last few days here have started out in the 70s. I do like the first version of the poem better.

Karen, these words from the first poem "So I shall weave in earnest
And leave with Him the rest." is something that I needed right now at this very moment. Thank you so much for sharing. xx

That seventy-two degree morning walk with a nice breeze and protective cloud cover sounds absolutely perfect, especially for catching up with fellow morning walkers like Rebecca and John along your route. Shifting your book club meeting outdoors to the park with lawn chairs is such a wonderful way to enjoy the weather, and changing the format to read personal poems aloud makes for such an intimate, meaningful gathering. Reading that beautiful, comforting "Life's Weaving" poem straight out of your old high school notebook must have been an incredibly nostalgic experience, and learning the history behind how it connects to Corrie Ten Boom's traditional tapestry verses is so fascinating. Finishing up your fourth diamond art bookmark sounds like the ultimate relaxing afternoon project to cap off such a peaceful day in town.

Catching up here since the days here have been crazy busy. A 72 degree morning is something we haven't seen here yet but...we are being forcasted over 90 degrees for this coming Monday. Yikes. I like the poem you picked to share with your group. How nice to meet outside this time.
