Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Ken's Project

This morning brought freezing rain and everything had a coating
of ice on it so it was a day for walking down in the basement.
The back windows were coated in ice.

A couple more train layout pictures.

We didn't go to the Shop and Save after breakfast this morning
because of our icy driveway.
But by lunch time the temperature was above freezing and made it
up to 40 degrees, so lots of melting going on.
We even saw blue sky and the sun shining for a couple of hours.

Our trip out to the Shop and Save was made after lunch for our
weekly food shopping.

I have a big white three ring binder with lots of recipes in it.
All the recipe are put in clear sleeves to keep them clean.
The problem is that I just can't seem to get them in any order
for me to find them easily.
I usually end up looking through the whole book trying to find something.
Ken is always laughing at me about it.
Well today Ken has given himself the very big project of
sorting through them all and making a detailed index.
He's been working on it most of the day.

I'm hoping the weather stays warm through the night and
things don't all freeze up by morning.
Sure would be nice to have a regular morning walk in town.

Did my usual things around the house and the day just
flew by as usual.

Hope your Tuesday was a good one.
Thanks for stopping by.

Vee - You asked if we had a clothes dryer.  No, haven't had one for the past 25 years or so.

...we had a nice snowy day. All of the people and small accessories that uses adds so much Ken's layout. I love to see the pictures. Take care and be careful of the ice.

Ice and any movement walking or driving is not a good combination. Pretty scenes from Ken's layout. Glad the sun came out and did it's job in melting the ice. Indexing is a big job what a great help that will be!

Freezing rain is the only winter weather I don't like.

I'd like to suggest he pick 5 or so recipes to make a week's menu. Like if you're having turkey, then add a turkey soup recipe, a turkey pot pie, beans and ham, hot turkey sandwich.

This would make a week's menu because you can have leftovers probably two times with those meals.

If you make several "week's menus" and keep them together in a section, you just pull out one of the week's menus from the section and use it for your week. Use the recipes to make your shopping list, add your items you need that week also, and you're on your way shopping.

Why spend time each week thinking about a menu for the week? If you keep your recipes section into weeks, you just have to pull out that week over and over.

I have a big white binder with my favorite recipes as well and I spend several hours sorting through it and organizing it when we first went on lockdown with Covid last spring. It is a big time-consuming project to organize recipes. Ken is so sweet to take on that project. Good for him! Glad you had a nice day. See you again soon!

Oh no! Let it snow, let it snow... but no ice please! However, along the tracks the weather looks just fine - warm and sunny! Why, one guy seems to be out mowing his yard. Which reminds me... it won’t be long until we are too! :-/

Maybe get those 3 ring page decoders (inexpensive) and then categorize your recipes by entrees, desserts, salads, bread, etc
Love the red tiered house!

Dividers (not decoders...auto-correct!!)

Can I come and live in your basement? I love everything there.

I don't like icy sidewalks or roads either. I'm more aware of other people when the conditions are like that.

We had that skim of ice over everything Monday....we did not get out at all. I love seeing the scenes from the train.

Your mention of the recipes made me think of how I used to have mine on index cards. It was hard to find what I was looking for.now I have a recipe app and have all my recipes on it.For me this works well, but it may not be for everyone .

That's funny about your notebook full of recipies. I started a new recipe book a few years ago and today it about full. But I go to look for something like a pie recipe...and have to think...is it under pies or desserts?? I have recipies under two or three headings. :( The whole book is a mess now.

I am glad that nothing is wrong...glad it is just a break. I sure understand the need to take a break.
