Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

Bees Nest

A sunny morning for my walk to town today and just 51 degrees. Walked around the lower cemetery, then passed the day care center and over to and around the ball park loop.  Back up to the main road and home again.

Saw Dwayne walking out of the town as I was getting to town.

A couple deer were eating the apples again and looking into the field saw a whole mess of deer, too many to count!!

Can you spot the bees nest?  Was surprised to see it hanging so low to the ground along the side of the road.

Sunrise: 6:35
Sunset: 8:05

Walked 5.9 miles

We went and did more rock crushing today. First time we filled up the buckets was in the morning and we came back to the house and spread it around. Had lunch and then went back and crushed more stone.  Second time we left the stones in the buckets in the back of the truck and will spread it around tomorrow. Will take a picture tomorrow of the progress so far.  It is really starting to look nice.

We stopped working about 2:30 and sat out on the porch for a bit.  We usually just have the 4 Does stay around the house for a few hours at a time but today there was a buck out front down by another natural fence.  I'm wondering if it could be one of the little ones from last year and that's why it he doesn't run away from us.  Last year there were 2 Does and three fawns.  Anyway it was nice to have him around today.

We have a tiny pond out front where some frogs live.  Watched two of them jump out of the water and sun themselves on the rocks surrounding the pond.  Was going to take a picture but too lazy to get off the porch!

Supper for today we grilled hamburgers outside and I made French fries.  Well didn't make them, the fries were frozen and just heated them up in the oven.

...I was raking up sticks this morning and discovered yellow jackets in the ground. Got stung 5 times.

Yes, I see that hornet's nest! I don't understand how they choose a place to build...I have seen them real high and I have seen them fairly low, too. I am 5 foot 3 tall and have seen them lower than my head. They used to build fairly often in the orchard.

Cool that you have frogs in your pond! And I would so enjoy the deer.

I love the clouds in the first picture. it does seem unusual to have a bees nest that close to the ground.

Looking forward to seeing the progress with your crushed rock. How nice that you have nice visitors to watch on your property.
That verse is a challenge but a worthy response to have...only with God's help.

I think it's neat that the buck just might be one of last year's fawns all grown up and feeling quite secure coming around.

I haven't seen a hornets' nest this year. A couple of years ago, I brought home an old one, tore it apart and made some paper from it.

I see the nest. I can't wait to see more of the work you're doing. And oh how I wish it was that cool in the mornings here ... instead, we are tracking a tropical storm turning into hurricane with 86° in the morning.

That hornets nest must be full and heavy. How scary! You know....I'm going to let you know when we see 51 degrees! Remind me in a couple of months and we'll see how long it takes our temps to get that low! I wanted to go out this morning because it was only 75 but I had to go to Walmart and stock up. Enjoy your day!

It will be awhile before our mornings are that comfortable! Not a fan of that nest! You’re working really hard with that stone!
