Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A little walking mishap

Drove to town this morning and started walking at 6:45.
It was 38 degrees and raining.
Sunrise 7:26

While walking around town I went down one of the side streets.
It has an uneven edge to it and I happened to step on it wrong,
 twisted my ankle, and fell.
I knew I couldn't be hurt that bad because I looked around
to see if anyone had seen me fall.  🙂
I felt like such a dope.
I've been walking on snow and ice and was fine and now I fall.

It didn't really hurt that much and I thought I could keep walking,
but then it stating hurting more
so figured I'd better head back to the car and go home.
So I only got to walk 2 miles.

I'm just glad I didn't hurt it worse.
Should be fine after a day of not walking.

🌧     🌧     🌧

So today I've been limping around a bit.
This seemed like a good day to write out Christmas cards
and spent the morning doing that.

Had planned on going to Brenda's for supper but
we ended up going there for lunch and had half price pizza.
Sitting by the window we saw some kind of a hawk in
the tree across the street by the lake.
It sat up in the tree for about 10 minutes and then
we watched it fly away.
Sure would have been nice to have a good camera to zoom in on it.

Going back home we stopped in town at the Dollar General,
the post office, and then the library.
I've got two more books to read.

It has been a dreary rainy day all day.
Put my foot up this afternoon and read.
Ken thinks I should take the day off from walking tomorrow
but I'm making no promises.
I'll see how it feels in the morning.

Right now I'm looking forward to
having some ice cream later.

Till next time . . .
have a happy day.
Thanks for stopping by.

...I'm sorry to hear of your mishap. It rained here and our driveway is a sheet of ice, walking to the mailbox wasn't pleasant. Heal quickly!

Praying for you. Some times it's the little things that take us down. I am saying with my back hurting. :( Today was gloomy and that makes me sad. Ted went to dr appointment alone...came home and took me to D.Q. I just needed out. My back hurt but it was nice to be out of the house. Take care. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie

I was afraid of what I was going to read...I am glad you were able to walk and get back to your Jeep...I hope all is well with it after some rest. I had to laugh at you saying you looked around to see if anyone was watching...one time I went to the library. There was a thin skim of snow, that was wet and damp. You know the melting, almost gone stage. I don't remember why I was running from the library back to the car but run I did and fell quick as a wink when I was about to the car....and of course the first thing I did was look around to see if anyone else was near by. No one was or so I htought, and then I started laughing and got up on in the car...then notice over across the street the church was being worked on up higher...not sure what they were doing...but none of them seemed to have noticed...it is a wonder they didn't hear me laughing. It did not hurt physically at all...hurt my pride.

Sure glad you didn't break a bone. Hope you feel like running again by tomorrow. With your determination you probably will. We are just about out of ice cream...think there is a little butter crunch. Poppy works tomorrow. Maybe Turkey Hill will be on sale and he can stock up. :)Take care.

Sounds like a really nice day except for that fall in the morning. Prayers that you heal up quickly. I'm with Ken. Probably take it easy for a day or two. Twisted ankles can take a while to feel better. Hope you feel better real soon. See you later.

Oh no! A twisted ankle can be very painful. Give it some rest, so it can heal.

Oh I am sorry about the turned ankle. Doesn’t everyone look to see if anyone saw a fall? I do! You know, Ken would never steer you wrong. You wouldn’t want to injure it further and be out of commission for more than a day or two. Course, God’s still in the healing business. Rain here, too. Now I am curious and must check the radar to see how big this system is.

I hope your foot is totally fine. It never hurts to rest it an extra day!

Ouch! I’m glad you didn’t hurt your ankle any worst. Take a day of rest and soak it in some epson salt.

I have had a couple of mishaps when walking. Once I stepped wrong on a rock and turned my ankle flat onto the ground. I stayed on the ground for awhile and was comforted by my then sweet doggie, Nell. I thought I would have to crawl home, but somehow managed to limp in. Another time, I tripped on a tree root and fell hard on my arm. I just know it was fractured for it took a long time to get well. At least I could still walk.

Sorry about your fall. I hope the ankle doesn't hurt too much. Do you have one of those elastic bandages? I find that they work great IF your ankle isn't swollen. If it is, well, you might have to rest for a day or so.

Hi Karen- I twisted my Ankle last Wednesday whilst getting out of bed. To cut a long story short- Tomorrow I'll be fitted for a 'Moon Boot' to wear from 4 to 6 Weeks...have been taking prescribed 'Moxicam' (Anti-inflamitory)and these work well. Yes, you must be careful with Ankle injuries- I'd be tempted to rest up. Regards. KEV.

Happy-K, I am sorry that you hurt yourself. RICE: rest, ice, compression, elevation. I have done similar things, hike a rough trail with no problems and then step off a depression in a flat area hidden by leaves and twist an ankle. Be well and take it easy for a while. Glad you stopped your walk and didn't make it worse.

Sprains are terrible! Best to rest up and skip a day. Reading inside and relaxing sounds like the ticket.

Sorry to hear about your mishap, glad you didn't break it.
Skipping today might be a good decision.
Take care and have a nice relaxing day.

Might I suggest that you use Advil (or aspirin) and ice your ankle before and after you walk. Even if it doesn't look swollen, the ice and Advil will help any internal issues -- pain is a sign that something isn't right, probably minor but better to take some profilatic actions to help ... might keep you walking in the end.

I saw a coworker fall in a icy parking lot. SHe got up before I could out of my car. I mentioned it to her a few months later. She thought nobody had seen her.

I am so sorry to hear of your little mishap...there are very few things that hurt as much as a sprained ankle. I do hope it is feeling better but sounds like you are taking good care of it. Like you, my first thought would be who saw me...LOL! I admire your determination...take good care of that ankle, now!
