Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A couple of deer

Had my usual walk yesterday morning
and after breakfast we drove to central Pennsylvania and made
a delivery to another church there who participates in
the Fingerprint Ministry.
We stayed a while to help.
Here I am working with some of the women.
This morning I was out walking at 6:45
It was quite warm at 68 degrees and sunny.
Sunrise 6:55
Just a little ways down from my house I saw something
big and black on the side of the road.
Kind of far but I thought it was a bear.
We both stopped and I took my stick and hit it on the ground a bunch of times
and whatever it was ran back in the woods and disappeared.
Didn't see a thing when I walked passed where it was.
Continued walking to town and saw a couple of deer on the way.
Went through town and passed the old house.
I keep walking past there to see if anyone has moved in yet.
No one has moved in yet but the lawn has been mowed.
Took a loop around the ball park and then headed back home.
Saw Lisa out running out of town as I walk into town.

Walked 6 miles

Today we drove down to LaVale to go to Lowes, Harbor Freight,
and also stopped for lunch at Chick-fil-a.
The deer are around a lot and kind of ignore us when we are outside.
A couple of the little ones.
The one by the stone is enjoying some apple.
The other one took a bite or two
and then moved on.
We sat out on the front porch this afternoon eating apples
and then I did a crossword puzzle.

It clouded up late in the afternoon and we heard thunder.
Rained a short time and soon the sun was shining again.

You can find the Blueberry Bread recipe that I made the other day
HERE.

That's it for today.
Hope your day was a happy one.

A few of you mentioned about the cutting down the trees being scary.
It is a bit but want to assure you that Ken knows what he' doing.
He's taken down quite a few trees and is is very safety conscious.
He cuts the wedge out of the one side where he wants it to fall
and then cuts the other side.
The ropes keep tension on it and help guide it down but
once the tree starts coming down there's nothing you can do.
So far the trees have always come down where he planned them too.
Years ago my Step-Dad taught Ken how to take down a tree.
We think of him often and how much he would have loved it here
at Happy Trails.
Tom - Yes, you are right about the change in grade around the trees during construction did those two trees in.
Rose - Ken climbed up the ladder to tie the rope around the tree.
Angie - No, plans to sell the wood from the trees, we can't even give it away, no one wants it.

The deer must be quite accustomed to you.

...now if you could just train your deer to prune the things that you want pruned!

It clouded up a time or two here today but then the sun always came back out...in the 90's again here in our corner of the world. Those fawns are just so darn sweet...totally adorable.

I meant to say, used to I climbed trees, from childhood on. Now I could not climb one if my life depended on it!

Just found your blog and I love it! Love your long walks and all the animals. I also love that big room you're in with your church friends.....that looks like a place I'd love to be!

"Big and black...ran back into the woods." Definitely sounds like a bear. Around here some big and black things are feral hogs but they don't run like a bear. Our neighbor a mile down the road got a good picture of a bear in her yard eating pears. I loved your picture!

Good that the bear ran off and you could continue safely on your walk. The deer are so comfortable around your place; I wonder if the start of hunting season will make them more cautious.

Harbor Freight sells some junk, but the cheap basic tools, nobody can beat them.

Hi Karen- A nice photo of you and the ladies at volunteering for the books. My there is a lot to do there- glad you've got some good help. Spring here now- things are warming up during the day- still cold nights though. I have the Flu and my Partner- Chris is coming down with it too. Hope to be better soon. Best Wishes. KEV.

Hello,

Love the pretty deer, it is nice they are not spooked with your being outside.
The view of the road is pretty. Our neighbor thinks a bear took down his bird feeders and pole. Wishing you a happy day!

I think it is so special that the deer come near and have no fear.

I'm sure the deer appreciate the apples you bring them. It's pretty special that you can sit and watch them. Enjoy your day.
