Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A day out and Ken's slippers

24 degrees F this morning and cloudy but no snow at all during the whole day!
Was out walking at 6:30 but had to cut my walk a little short and
only walked 4 miles.
We wanted to get an early start for a little day trip we took today.
Lots of deer around again this morning.
Hard to see but there are 6 of them up in the field.
Turned right again at the end of my street, walked up the hill and turned
around here.
Walked down to the main road and then back home again.
My house in the woods.
The whole time I was out walking I didn't see a single car or person.
I was surprised to hear birds chirping this morning.
Even they are ready for spring.
🌷     🌷     🌷
Our little outing today was a drive down to Winchester, Virginia, a couple
of hours away.
We went to a train show which is like a flea market for train buffs.
It was a pretty small sale but fun to look around.
From there we went to see a HO scale model layout.
It was in a building that was being sold so the club had an open house
for the last time before tearing it down.  It had been there for 35 years.

Outside on an old unused track was this train and caboose.
I took these pictures for you Kev.
Felt like having a Subway hot ham and cheese sub for lunch so
we looked up the nearest Subway.
It was in a Walmart so we went there for lunch.
This was one HUGE Walmart.
You could probably fit two of our Walmarts  into this one building.
After eating we walked around and I ended up buying
2 pairs of jeans, oven mitts, yarn, a card, and a few other things.
Seemed crazy to go all that way to end up going to a Walmart!!

On the way home we stopped and had ice cream cones. 🍦

I finished Ken's slippers yesterday.
Now his feet will stay toasty warm.
Tonight I will get back to making weave-it squares for the gingham
bedspread I'm making for our bed.

Tonight we will be watching Little House on the Prairie
which came in the mail today from Netflix.

That's been my day.
Hope your day was a happy one.

Chip Butter - Funny thing about exercising is that my morning walk doesn't make me tired but actually gives me more energy. I come home and I'm ready to go! 😃

John - My camera died months ago and I just started using my phone to take pictures.  Never did get a new camera.
We had the old house up for sale for 6 months and couldn't sell it.  Took it off the market and now we are giving the whole inside a new coat of paint and hoping this will do the trick.  Putting the house back on the market once we get done painting.

LOVE those slippers. I meant to comment yesterday on all the deer you seen...you must be in prime deer country! The Walmart in Terre Haute would hold two of the walmart we go to in Paris, Illinois. And I bet it would hold 6 or 8 or our little walmart.

Yay for outdoor walking. I love the view from up the hill where you turned around. So pretty, as is your house in the woods.
I love a good day trip and yours sounds like fun for both of you. Wow, that sounds like a huge Walmart.
I really like how Ken's slippers come up the ankle. My slippers don't do that and I end up needing to wear socks to keep my ankles warm.

Hi Happyone, I really enjoyed this post. Neat pictures, as always. I know KEV will love the shots of the CSX. I love going to those train shows. Thanks for answering my questions. Thanks for your encouraging comments about my walks. Much appreciated! Wow, Ken is lucky to get those slippers ... they do look toasty!

It sounds like you had a nice day. I don't get to Walmart much and usually save that for when I go out of town. Enjoy Little House on the Prairie. I always enjoyed the television series.

Hi Karen- Thank you very much for taking the Locomotive and caboose photos for me- I think that the CSX Diesels are in fact GP40 engines...the very same as the HO model that I'm buying from the US...even the number #6110 is very close to the number on the Bachmann model. Looks very cold there Karen..were at 32Deg C (over 90Deg F ) here to-day on this clear Autumn day. Regards. KEV.

...I drove through Winchester back in early December. The main CSX through New York State is about a mile south of me and I can hear their whistle blow at the ground crossings. Enjoy your day.

Those slippers make me smile. I am glad you are able to have such nice walks where you are. We are still in a rental and close to a highway so not much fun walking here so I envy you those jaunts.
I hope you have a wonderful night- xo Diana

You went to Walmart to eat ( at the Subway) and found jeans and more! That's what I killing two birds with one stone.
Those slippers look colourful and cozy too.

Good plan for the house! Put it back on the market with different realtors at the shortest length of time allowed for a higher price. ☺

Sounds as if that Wal*Mart was well worth visiting. I have been hungry for a hot chicken sandwich from Subway. If the weather would hold, I should do that for lunch. It's been a long time since I've had anything from Subway.

Now those slippers rival Joseph's coat of many colors. Always good to have warm feet.

Happy walking...every day is bringing us closer to spring and how wonderful that even the birds know it. They are, believe it or not, singing up a storm even here.

Walmart is like its own little city!

Love the slippers. :)

That sounds like a good road trip! We drove up your way last week, just got back home yesterday. We did a trip to Western PA not far from where I backpacked last year a couple of time. We exited I-68 at route 40 near the PA border, that must be, what, within 30-40 miles of where you live I would think. I like the pictures of the trains.

Those slippers looks so cozy, love Little House on the Prairie too. Your photos are always so pretty, Hope your house sells soon. Maybe spring will bring more prospects, and a new coat of paint always does wonders.
Blessings,
Sue

Sounds like a fun outing and your comment about Wal-Mart made me chuckle. I wonder how our Wal-Mart compares with yours. There is a Subway in our Wal-Mart, too, and a hair salon. Fun socks to keep Ken's feet warm. Fun shot of the deer in the field. Hope your Monday is going well.
