Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A Drizzly Walk, Lichen, and a Woodpecker

💐     💐
This morning I walked in an off and on again drizzly rain and it was 45 degrees.
Windy too so when it wasn't drizzling I dried off.

First walked to the library to drop off a book down the slot and then came back past my house and walked the roads behind my house.  Then through town and around one of the cemeteries and a few times around the ball park loop.  One side of the ball park has a lot of trees on one side and kept some of the rain off me.

No other walkers or runners again.  Dave a man I know from town was getting into his jeep with his fishing pole and as I walked by he said, "You sure get the miles in.  How far do you go?" When I told him 6 miles he laughed and said, "You go farther than the Marines."  Well, I don't know if THAT is true!!

Walked 6.2 miles
Found a penny
💐     💐
Today the 'Super Seniors' group from church had lunch with the visiting
missionaries.  We all brought some food to share.  I made some chocolate
chippers Tuesday and took them along.
It was a nice time of getting to know the missionaries.

On the way home we stopped at Walmart and did some food shopping.

Last week while I was mowing the lawn I noticed this lichen on one of
the small trees in the yard.  I was told that it doesn't harm the tree
but I wonder if I should take it off or just leave it alone.
The woodpecker came back to the backyard feeders again today.
He stayed for quite a while.

The days just seem to fly by.
Hope yours was a happy one.

You certainly do put in the miles. They would add up to a lot in a year!

I loved seeing the woodpecker, the lichen looks quite pretty on the trunk xx

You are a master at acting on those small opportunities. Ken too.
I don't know much about lichen, but it sure is interesting to see the various types on your tree.

Now I have to Foogle to find out how far Marines march and if lichen on a tree is harmful or if it can be removed...that makes three. It does not pay to come here if one is short on time. =D

I worked out in my backyard today staking a small tree and getting my small vegetable square ready.

It was a chilly morning to be out walking, but I admire you for your faithfulness at doing so.

Hubby says you can leave the lichen on the tree. ;)

I wonder that same thing about the lichen on our trees. Love that first photo. Happy Thursday to you!

It does look wet in your neck of the woods..i do wish I had taken photos here today. It has rained all day long and I don't think it stopped all last night....granted some was light rain. A lady told us this afternoon that it had rained over two inches...

Anyway, I don't know if lichen hurts a tree, or not. I always think it interesting. Great photos of the Red-bellied woodpecker.

I've never seen a woodpecker before, lovely shot! Did the missionaries like the flower and flag arrangement?

My favorite thing is to watch the birds. In the winter, I move my feeders to the window by my "quiet" chair. Now that it's warmer I moved or in front of my "treehouse room. Your woodpecker is a Red Bellied.
Yesterday I planted 3 perennial flowers and 4 annuals, hoping that God would water them today. He is 😍

The lichen is very pretty and unusual. If it truly doesn't harm the tree, I think I would leave it. The picture of the woodpecker is beautiful too. We have cardinals here in our yard for the first time ever.

I loved seeing the woodpecker in your photo's.
Nice shot of the lichen too, I'm no expert but I think it is ok to leave it on the tree.

All the best Jan
