A suprise in an old envelope

This is an old picture from when I lived in Ellicott City, Md.
It is on one of the many paths I used to walk along.
Posted an old picture because it was another rainy morning here
and never took my camera out of my pocket.
It was warm again at 47 degrees and windy.

Walked all over town up and down all the streets and around
one of the cemeteries and the ball park loop.

No one else was out walking, just crazy me. 😊
I wore my rain pants and slicker but
the rain dripped down the inside of my rain slicker anyway and by
the time I got home my shirt was pretty wet.
Wet feet too so it was nice to get home to a warm dry house.

Walked 6 miles
☔     ☔     ☔
David left this morning continuing on to New Jersey and then to Oklahoma.
Sure was nice having him here.  We should see him again when he goes
back to North Carolina in a couple of weeks.

It's been raining all day so I thought it would be a good day
to clean out and organize my desk.
I took EVERYTHING out of my desk and put it all out on the floor.
Then went though it all and threw lots of stuff away and put
the rest back in an orderly manner.
While putting things back I came across an envelope with a bit of a surprise in it.
A $100 (five 20 dollar bills)
I have no idea how long ago I put it there.
That sure put a smile on my face.
😊
 Haven't done much else today.
Not sure what to make for supper tonight.
Maybe I'll take Ken out for dinner with some of that found money
before heading off to church.

A happy day to you.

Puzzle Number 2

A warm 47 degrees this morning but a rainy one the whole time I was walking.
A bit on the windy side too.
Wore my rain paints and yellow slicker so I didn't have to take
my umbrella along with me.
Never took any pictures walking today, just too rainy to get my camera out.

Walked all over town, up and down all the streets and walked the loops
around the cemeteries and the ball park a couple of times.

Didn't see anyone else out walking and no animals either.

Walked 6.3 miles
πŸ‘Ÿ     πŸ‘Ÿ     πŸ‘Ÿ
Tuesday and bowling day and it was so nice to have
David along with us for a day of bowling.
No one made any records bowling but we all had a fun time.

I baked some chocolate chip cookies for David to take with
 him when he leaves tomorrow.

The three of us have been working on jigsaw puzzle number 2
and this evening we finished it.
I have a feeling I'll be getting the next one out later.
A happy day to you.

Quilt Barn Square 15

Time for the Barn Collective series over at Tom's.
I'm linking up with him again today.
This Barn Quilt is on the machine shed at the farm of
Joe and Mary Stanton located on Bittinger Road just north of Bittinger.
The Amish Dahlia block was sponsored by the Heritage Quilters,
a local quilters group.  It is in memory of Maxine LeGeer, who lived near by.
The barn was built in 1864 and the farm has been in the family for
seven generations.   The last 25 years it has been a dairy farm.
This snowy barn picture I took the other day on my morning walk.
 πŸ„     πŸ„     πŸ„
This morning was a cloudy one and 32 degrees but no wind.

Had another walk all around town and the cemeteries
and the ball park loop.
Went a ways up Barn Sale too and down toward Happy Trails
before turning around and heading back home.

Kathy was in town walking again.  I didn't see her last week because
as I thought she was out of town for Thanksgiving.

Chuck from church was in town again doing work for someone in town
and he stopped to say hi.

Walked 6.6 miles
Found a penny
πŸ‘Ÿ     πŸ‘Ÿ     πŸ‘Ÿ
While we were eating breakfast I got a text from our son, David.
He was a few hours away on his way to New Jersey
and said he'd be here for lunch.  😊

This morning I made the last batch of the Welsh Cookies for the
sale on Saturday.  Nice that there were an extra dozen for us to keep.

David arrived around 11:30 and we had a nice lunch and are enjoying
having him here with us.  We don't get to see him that often.
He plans on staying for a couple of days.  😊

It was a pretty warm day so we took advantage of it this afternoon
and put up some outside Christmas blue icicle lights.
Not a lot just a couple of strings across the top of the porch.
At least that's a start!

A happy day to you.

A spot of Red and a Penny

A spot of color
πŸ’     πŸ’     πŸ’

The other morning when I was walking God gave me a penny. 😊
I was in the parking lot of the library where I sometimes find pennies.
I was talking to God and said it would be nice to find a penny today.
There were none to be found in the parking lot but I knew God could
have put one there for me if He had wanted to.
Then a thought came to mind, I'm not home yet!
A couple of minutes later I looked down and there was a bright shiny
new penny and along side it were two dimes.  God not only gave me a penny
but two dimes too. 😊

Now some of you may think that is just a silly story and the coins
would have been there anyway.
But I believe that God put them there to remind me
that He is with me ALL the time and that
He hears me, the important things as well as the little things.
What a comforting thought.

lo, I am with you alway,
even unto the end of the world.
Amen.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee:

yea I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

The birdhouse

Birdhouse in the fog yesterday,
today it is snowing.
⛄     ⛄     ⛄
This morning when I walked it was 32 degrees and there were on and off
snow showers.  At first it was calm out but then the wind kicked up a bit.

Walked all over town up and down the streets and once again
around the cemeteries and the ball park loop.

Everything was pretty with a light coating of snow with the look of
someone sprinkling powered sugar over everything.

The town pond and the road you see there, I'll be walking in just a bit
up to the cemetery.
Very quiet again and didn't see any one else out walking
though Farmer Marvin came by in his truck while I was going up the hill
to the cemetery and stopped for a little chat.

Walked 6.5 miles
Found 3 pennies
πŸ‘Ÿ     πŸ‘Ÿ     πŸ‘Ÿ
Packed up a box to send to my Mom and after we mailed it we
headed up the road to Grantsville to do a few errands.
In the hardware store bought another bird feeder which I got for 1/2 price.
This one is supposed to be squirrel proof.  We shall see.
Stopped in at Goodwill and looked around but didn't find anything.

Back home again I made another batch of Welsh Cookies for the sale
next Saturday.  Now I have 4 dozen done with one more to go.
Each batch makes 2 dozen so the last batch we get to keep a dozen. 😊

Worked on the puzzle a bit more and it is coming along slowly but surely.
Read some too.

Pizza dough is being made now in the bread machine and when that is done
Ken will make us a pizza for supper.  It's been a while since we've made
pizza and this is a perfect evening for it.  Cold outside and warm
and cozy inside by the fire.

Not two but one

🌲     🌲     🌲
This morning was warm again for this time of year at 45 degrees.
Fog around for the morning with a light misty rain at times but no wind to speak of.

A random walk this morning with no particular order to it.
Went all over town up and down the streets and around both cemeteries
and the ball park loop.

No one else out again.  It was like a Sunday morning.
Walked 6.3 miles
πŸ‘Ÿ     πŸ‘Ÿ     πŸ‘Ÿ
Ken went out with Edd for breakfast and then the auction which they
do most Fridays.

I got a few things done around the house in the morning and worked
on the jigsaw puzzle for a little while.
Nice to sit home on a dreary day and read for a while too.

Don Williams, who did the chalk drawings at church the other week also
does some other smaller pictures and sells the prints.
These are just regular pictures without hidden pictures.
In years past I've bought a print of a Wren and one of a Cardinal.
This year I bought this winter scene.
The two pictures are actually one picture.  When we bought the frame with the matte
we were going to cut out the middle of the matte so it would fit the big picture,
but we liked the look of it as two pictures so just kept it.

A happy day to you.

my house afterward I dropped off my umbrella and then continued walking
around town.  I got to the other end of town and it started raining!!  Not hard though so I just got a little damp by the time I got home.

As expected there was no one else out early this Thanksgiving morning
and just a few cars.

A couple of recipes

πŸ„     πŸ„     πŸ„

19 degrees this morning when I left on my walk but there was no wind.  The sun came out too and boy was it nice and warm to feel it on my face.  😊I ended up having to take one of my hoods down because I got warm.

Headed over to the post office first to mail a letter and then continued walking on around the ball park loop which is where I took the picture of the little stream in the woods back there.  Then around both cemeteries, down by the Drane house and all around town.

Quiet around town, didn't see anyone else out.

Forgot my camera so don't have any pictures.
Time to go get some supper made and then I have to
bake a pumpkin pie for tomorrow.

Baking Day

🌾     🌾     🌾

Nice and cozy and warm in bed this morning and didn't get up right away so got a late start walking at 7:15.

A chilly 20 degrees but not with that wind from yesterday.  It was cloudy but the sun was starting to peek through the clouds when I got home.

Walked behind my house on the couple of streets up that way and then continued on through town, around the cemeteries and the ball park once again and then more around town and finally back home.

The man who walks his big white dog was out walking and one other woman was walking but no sign of Kathy again.  I think she may be traveling for Thanksgiving.
Walked 6 miles
πŸ‘Ÿ     πŸ‘Ÿ     πŸ‘Ÿ
It is Tuesday and we usually go bowling but we skipped it today.

I stayed home and did some baking.
Baked two Honey Breads and three Pumpkin Breads.
House smells heavenly.

The Tuesday before Thanksgiving we go to church in the evening
for a Pie and Praise service.
We all bring a favorite pie to share.  I'm being a bit different
and bringing slices of Honey Bread and Pumpkin Bread.
We have an informal service back in the fellowship hall.
We share testimonies and things we are thankful for.
It is always a fun time.

A happy day to you.

Quilt Barn Square 14

Monday is time for the Barn Collective series and I'm linking up with Tom.

The design is an Ohio Star done in red, white, and blue.

A very windy and cloudy morning as I headed out the door for my walk at 6:40 and 22 degrees.

A very haphazard walk with no pattern to it.  Just walked all over the place.   The picture is the trail behind the ball park loop.  Not much of a trail but still nice to walk along.

I wasn't surprised not to see anyone else out walking.
I had many layers of clothing on and really did stay nice and warm.
Walked 6.2 miles
🚢     🚢     🚢
Finished the first jigsaw puzzle of the season.  This one had only 500
pieces to it but it was pretty hard.
Puzzle Number One
Number 2 has been started already.
🚣     🚀     ⛵
We spent the day down in LaVale doing a bit of shopping.
It was 8 degrees warmer down the mountain there and no snow.
Both there and home the sun was shining but still very windy.

We had lunch at Applebee's.

That's it for today.
Plan on spending a nice quiet evening at home.

A happy day to you.

Chalk Drawings

Sunday evening (Nov 6) through Friday evening (Nov 11) our church
had revival meetings with Dr. Don Williams speaking
and drawing his chalk drawings.
He draws one a night and at the end of the week
the six people who brought the most guests to church
gets to take one of the drawings home.
I took a picture of the six drawings.
Each picture has a hidden picture within the picture
and comes out when a black light shines on it.
I could only get one of the pictures with the hidden picture
and it is my favorite one of all the pictures.
Here you can see Jesus at the end of the path.
Couldn't get a very good picture because of the lighting
but you can get the idea.
This picture is of Peter when he started walking on water
out to Jesus and he lost faith and starting sinking.
You can kind of see Jesus there in the big wave.
The Bible verses I chose for this Sunday are
Matthew 14:25 - 31
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them,
walking on the sea.

And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled,
saying, It is a spirit: and they cried out for fear.

But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying,
Be of good cheer, it is I, be not afraid.

And Peter answered him and said,
Lord if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

And he said Come.
And when Peter was come down out of the ship,
he walked on the water to go to Jesus.

But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid;
and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him,
and said unto him,
O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

Peter starting sinking when he took his eyes off of Jesus, but when he called out to Jesus, He was there for him. We may not walk on water but when we go through difficult times and call on Jesus, He will be always be there to help us.  And for that I am truly thankful.
 ⛄     ⛄     ⛄
I walked this morning in snow showers, with a temperature of
27 and very windy.
I wore my new 'snow sneakers' that I got from LL Bean for the first
time and they were great.  They kept my feet warm and dry.
Couldn't get a full walk in which happens sometimes on Sundays because
I have to get ready for church and this Sunday I only walked 4.6 miles.

May you have a blessed Sunday.
Jesus Loves You.

Saturday's Critters

Linking up with Eileen for Saturday Critters.
One of three horses down by the Drane house and that I've named White Streak.
🐴     🐴     🐴
At 6:40 it was pretty warm for this time of year at 50 degrees
when I left the house for my morning walk.
The sun came out and it was a delightful morning for walking.
I walked the Farm Loop.
These cows were not along the road side so I zoomed in to take their picture.
There's a white cow on the left which I don't see very often around here.

Three dogs came running down there front lawn barking at me
but the owner was on the porch and when she called them back
they all went.  I was glad that they listened. 😊

There were a whole bunch of crows along the side of the road and
they all flew off when they spotted me.  I wondered what they were all
doing there and then I spotted this pumpkin and figured they were about
to dig in and eat it.
When I got back to town I walked passed my house, through town and down
toward Happy Trails.  Ken had left earlier to go up there to pick up
the trailer so I just walked down that way and thought I'd meet him and
then ride home with him.
I took this picture of the road that turns off the main road
just a couple of minutes later I saw Ken coming along in the truck and he
stopped and picked me up.
Walked 6.7 miles
Found a penny
πŸŽƒ     πŸŽƒ     πŸŽƒ
I made blueberry pancakes for breakfast and we went outside
right after we finished eating.
Though the weather was warm and sunny it was supposed to turn cold
and rain/snow around 11:00 and we had to get some outside work done.

Ken dug a trench with the tractor and buried a black drain pipe
and I mowed the lawn one last time.  After all the warm
weather is just keeps growing. There were some left over
leaves around too and I mulched them up with the mower.
By this time the weather was starting to change.
The sun disappeared and it got windy and the temperature dropped.
Back to HT to bring the tractor back and put it away in the tractor barn.
On the way home the first of the rain started.
It was 11:30.

We are getting a little bit of snow and it is just starting
to stick on the driveway so
I started the first jigsaw puzzle
and we've enjoyed a nice quite afternoon inside.

I made one of my favorite recipes for supper tonight,
Sweet and Sour Chicken.
If you would like the recipe you can find it
HERE
in a blog post from Feb 2014.
It's a bit of a mess to make but so worth it.

Out with friends

πŸ„     πŸ„     πŸ„
32 degrees this morning at 6:35 when I left the house for my walk.
It was a clear morning with no wind and it wasn't long before the sun
came out and warmed things up.

I walked the streets behind my house and then around the ball park loop.
I happened to look in the woods and saw a deer as she was getting up.
She blends in so well I almost didn't see her.
I think this plant is a dried money plant but not sure.
It is green in summer and has purple flowers on it.
Walked through town.  This is where the sidewalk ends.
Walked up Barn Sale Road to see the cows then down the main road
toward HT a ways.  Turned around and went back to town.
Walked around both cemeteries and then home.

Walked 6 miles
🐞     🐞     🐞
Went out with some friends this morning to a shop called Whispering Pines
which is in Spring, PA.  I've been there before but didn't realize how close it
is to my house, only 16 miles away!!!
I was kind of out of the way for them to pick me up so I went in my car
and met them all there.  There were 8 of us.
We roamed around the store for about an hour and a half.
A few pictures of the shop.
Betty is there on the right and Tricia is hidden behind the stars.
I bought a few little things.
There was a little cafe in the shop where I would have liked to eaten lunch
but I was voted down and we all went to Casselman's back in Grantsville.
It was nice there too though and I enjoyed having a nice lunch out
with friends.

I was back home a little after 1:00.
The day really warmed up and it felt more like summer.
I did some work in the yard.  Cut down more dead flowers and tidied
up the yard.  When Ken got home we loaded up the back of the pick up truck
with the things I cut and some left over leaves.  There is a place in town
where you can dump leaves and weeds and that is what we did.
We have a pile of yard waste in the back of our property but there is a LOT
of stuff there now.  We could always take it up to HT but this was closer.

So that's been my day.
A happy day to you.

Good Fences

Linking up the Good Fences again this Thursday.
πŸ„     πŸ„     πŸ„
This morning I left the house at 6:40 and it was 32 degrees
with a pretty dense fog and no wind.

Walked on the couple of streets behind my house and then continued on around town up and down all the streets.  Made it around both cemeteries and the ball park loop also.

It was kind of neat being in the fog.  Things are a bit muffled and I could hear cars in the distance but not see them.  Some crows were making a bit of a racket and I did see a rabbit hop across the road in the cemetery in front of me.

The only person I saw was Kathy and it was a bit funny.
I was walking in one direction and her in another.
Then we both just appeared out of the fog and we both laughed.

Walked 6 miles
🚢     🚢     🚢
After breakfast the fog burned off and we had a nice warmish sunny day.
Ken went up to Happy Trails again.
It was Blankets for Babies again this Thursday at church and I went there.
Handed over the blanket that I just finished knitting.
(pictured on a post a couple of days ago)
I've started another blanket, this time a weave-it one.
There were 7 of us there today making blankets.
For those of you who are new readers, we make blankets and then
bring them over to the local hospital for the new born babies.
A nice card is attached with an invitation to visit our church.

After I left there I stopped in Walmart on the way home
to pick up a few things and I bought my first Christmas present.

I wish you a happy day.

over to the ball park loop, through town, around both cemeteries and
down by the Drane house.
 Back through and around town.

Kathy was out walking plus the 'turn around lady' and two other women
who I've not seen before.  If they keep walking I'll probably know them soon.

Walked 6.2 miles

A little more about the Drane House.
When I walked down there this morning I took a couple of pictures.
Sorry for the quality of the pictures but I took them through the windows,
which were dirty and very reflective, but you can get an idea of what it is like inside.
I took this one from the back window.  Window you see in the picture
is to the right of the front door.
The fire place is on the left.
This room is on to the left of the front door and I took the picture
from the side window.
This from a front window and is the stairs which leads up to two bedrooms.
One on each side of the stairs.
I've been in the Drane House quite a few times and in fact they
have a cookie sale in December in the house.
Tables are set up in the room by the fireplace and LOTS of cookies
are set out for sale.
This year the sale is Dec 3 and today I baked some Welsh Cookies
for the sale.  I baked 2 dozen and have 3 more dozen to bake.
A LOT of people from town bake all the cookies, each person bakes 5 dozen.
The sale is from 9 to 2 but they are usually sold out by 11:00.

Ken went up to Happy Trails and I stayed home getting
things done around the house.
It's been a cloudy day with just a few periods of sunshine.
No rain in the forecast so I did a couple loads of laundry.

That's it for today.
A happy day to you.

Drane House, Bowling and a Hair Cut

The Drane House down past one of the cemeteries.
🌾     🌾     🌾     🌾
Left the house this morning at 6:35 for my walk.
The temperature was just about 20 degrees warmer than yesterday.
Today it was 40 degrees.
It had rained during the night but by the time I walked it had stopped.
The roads were wet but it was just cloudy.
Later in the day the sun finally came out.

Had my usual walk all around town and both cemeteries and the ball park loop.
Though I do have some routes that I have mapped out I hardly ever walk the exact same way around town from day to day. I like to change it up a bit.

Lots of people put things out at graves but this one seems to have
more than the usual amount of stuff around it.

Kathy was out walking again too but I only saw her at a distance.

Watched a few crows up at the cemetery and tried to get a picture
but they fly away as soon as the camera comes out of my pocket.
I guess they are camera shy.

It was a nice walk and I'm thankful that I get to start out my days walking.
Walked 6 miles

Bowling day again.
We left at 11:30 and got there at 12:00 which is opening time.
We had some lunch there and then bowled.
There were eight of us there today.
Ken and I only bowled two games today instead of the usual three.
Not such great games today for me, 107 and 127.

We had to leave early because I had a hair appointment.
It's been 2 months since I had my hair cut short and it was time for a trim.
I'm still liking my short hair and plan to keep it short,
at least for a while.

A happy day to you.
