Walking is the perfect way of moving if you want to see into the life of things. It is the one way of freedom. If you go to a place on anything but your own feet you are taken there too fast, and miss a thousand delicate joys that were waiting for you by the wayside. Elizabeth von Arnim

A most unusal walk

🍁     🍁     🍁     🍁
55 degrees this morning and sunny when the sun came over the mountain.

A most unusual walk this morning.
In all my 20 some years of taking a morning walk this has never happened to me before.
I was walking around the Farm Loop and when I got to the dairy farm
those crazy goats were in front of their house on the side of the road.
I've walked by them many times and they have always stayed by the house.
Today they came over by me. I wasn't sure what to expect but they didn't do anything.
I said hi and told them to get back off the road.
Of course they didn't listen and as I took off walking
they started following me down the road.
Thought they would just walk up the hill with me and then turn around and go home,
but they didn't.  They kept following me.
I tried turning around a few times to get them headed back home
but wherever I went they went.
After two miles I was at Farmer Bill's house and rang the bell. I'm sure he knows the people at the dairy farm and thought he could call them.
But he didn't come to the door.
The goats walked right up to the door with me up onto the porch.
Leaving Farmer Bill the goats stopped for a bit to eat some of
the rhododendron growing by his porch.
When the goats realized I had moved on they came trotting after me.
I was afraid they would follow me up to the main road and then get hit by a car,
so I turned around and headed back to the dairy farm.
I was getting a bit tired of them following me by this time so I called Ken
and he came and picked me up.  The goats were turned in the right direction then
and were headed for home.

I didn't finish my walk but just went home with Ken.
I ended up just walking 3.5 miles.
Still better than nothing.
It was a most unusual walk.

I got more exercise though because I went up to Happy Trails with Ken
and we got some work done up there.
The rug remnant that we bought the other day we put down in the area where the bed will be.  The end there with the openings are more storage and will have sliding doors.
We also got flat stones and Ken laid them out in a pattern.
They will go up on the wall in the corner there where the pinkish color wood is.
And that is where we will put propane stove which will heat the cabin.
We also cut down some trees and figured out where we are going to put the out house.
It will out this way off the end of the front deck in the woods.
There will be a bridge out about 20 feet to a platform with the out house will be.
Probably won't get to that though till next year.
We got back home about mid afternoon.
I made a salad to bring to our friends house where we met for dinner
and to play Mexican Train.  Someone else made lasagna and another made
chocolate cake for dessert.
There were nine of us and we had a fun time playing, eating, and talking.

So that brings the day to an end.
It's been a busy day and
I'm ready for some sleep.

Pleasant dreams.

Your encounter with the goats is too funny. They must have thought they found a new friend.

Now that is an unusual twist to your daily walk. Those goats must have been noticing how friendly you are and decided to try to get to know you better.
HT looks so cozy. I like the sounds of the stone around the stove.
Your game night sounds like fun.

Now that is an unusual walk ... I think I would have been a little nervous with goats following me, but all's well that ends well.

You are making good progress at Happy Trails and I like those flat stones.

Hope your weekend is good

All the best Jan

Rob and I had a good laugh over your goat adventure, although I imagine it was a little scary while it was happening. Rob really likes your cabin and hopes to see it sometime.

How funny that those silly goats follow you like that -- made me smile. You were a good neighbor to see that they got home OK. That's a sweet cabin you're making.
